writing a villain devoid of sympathy or mercy is harder than it looks since I'm a sucker for the ones with a twinge of love within them. The movie!Arktos is one I have to stick to my guns about. Rinkus is easier because he has a legit attachment in Sierra in-movie, but movie Arktos is portrayed as 100% willing to murder his daughter, and I sprinkled in a bit more nuance to that (titbits from the musicals and other media that I could find) but writing-wise I have to be mindful not to have him come too close to an actual feeling of love.
It wouldn't be interesting if he didn't feel...something. Or at least, the awareness that he could feel something. A toxic, possessive attachment that could transform into true love if he stopped being a monster. Shallow, to not risk real love.
Because if he was truly a force of nature with no sense of morality, he'd be above deliberate cruelty, pettiness and evil. He wouldn't understand those concepts. But he does.
And if he's capable of evil, then he's capable of good. Otherwise Arktos would have no agency as a force of nature --- and he does.

i bought the 'ice princess' by chance, you guys. I made a habit a couple years back of buying cheap obscure dvds of animated films and happened upon it. Saw gifs of the evil snowman floating around tumblr and finally gave it a watch after it sitting on my shelf for ages. Now I'm writing the most emotionally raw thread I've ever done ---

man do I live for immortal creators getting psychologically destroyed by mortal sensibilities. The contrast between immortal flimsiness and mortal resolve. How mortals can face death and non-existence and immortals are terrified of any kind of loss.

tired: lackeys betray main villain because he's too evil
wired: lackeys betray the villain 'cause he ain't evil enough.

One thing to like:
I love how fleshed out and emotive your muses are! You're able to expand on their characters in really interesting ways and give so much life to some characters that might not have that in canon. (Ex. Roger! I love him!!! Him still being upset about Bartholomew really adds SO much to him)
aaaa Thanks a bundle!!!!
Ah, Roger, where did he come from. But honestly, the scene with Bartholomew was a turning point in my childhood and the eeriness of that movie had a big impact on the type of genre I like --- animated, whimsical, and a touch dark.
I'm glad people are enjoying my chronic 'pick a character with little to no screen time/from obscure fandoms'.

the one thing™ i like about the way you play your characters is that they never fail to move into my brain and live there rent free.
the fun thing is most of them wouldn't pay rent anyway --- thank you so much! this blog's come a long way!

// for ur trademark! You have a really good way of adding the muses' voice/perspective into your writing (even when they're not speaking) and it's sooooo good!! I see it w/ all your other blogs as well! But I feel it's great for villain muses, because it helps see things through their pov without toning down or justifying their nastiness and it's great!
// I am beyond flattered! I've been worried about making these guys too nice lately; been trying to up their menace a lot. Villains are hard to do, so I'm blown away by the attention this blog is getting!
As for the inner monologues, I always try to add a more 'novel' like flow. I love dialogue but sometimes seeing inner reactions is fun, too. It can help imply body language, I think, without making the post too long.

not thinking about how Bill, and the stripe-shirted mouse (Roger) and the short cigar-chomping mouse all came to bear witness to Bartholomew going. How they were the only three who could bring themselves to watch. It was all they could do for him. not thinking about how Bill covered the short guy's eyes for him and how they all huddled together. How Bill and cigar-mouse got singled out by Ratigan with his 'as you were singing' and instead of backing off, stripes slunk back to their sides afterward. not thinking about how they're such a trio.
