"Set Me Free Pt.2", a Korean pre-release from his debut album as a Soloist, debuted at #30 on BB Hot100, #01 on Digital Song Sales, #08 on BB200, #05 on BB Exclusive US.

He made HISTORY with "Like Crazy", the title track which is also in Korean , by topping No.1 oh Hot100. Becoming the first Korean Soloist and 2nd Asian Artists to achieve this feat in the History of the chart.

Like Crazy (still the Korean version), sold 500K units in the US in less than a year (on August 2023) and reached 1Billion Streams during its anniversary week (it would've reached it in less time if the company hadn't permanently split the Kor. & English versions into "two separate songs" out of spite).

ALL Tracks from 'FACE' not only surpassed 100M streams, but also sold over 100K units in the US EACH.

And he did it all with very little to almost No promo, ZERO push from his company/label, NO radioplay, NO featured artist or western collab, sabotaged by the industry on every corner, and his own label PAYING journalists to write defamatory articles about him in order to downplay his success while investing & raising another group-mate's solo career.

I’m just popping in to “clear” a debate, as i said before it’s exhausting to write long posts but my hands itch to write something anytime i see stuff going on. One of the reasons why it’s always better to be in the “not sure” zone instead of completely denying something that one may not even have knowledge about. Let’s get started shall we? 

So Jimin, precious Mimi, beautiful Jimim, my beloved child (he’s older than me but shush) came live yesterday to share his emotions with us about his amazing achievement, his well deserved achievement, the slap on the face of haters who instead of working on making their favs rise to some level they decided to invest time and energy into trying to make other people win just to not only fail but let down their own favs 🤦🏻‍♀️ Well Jimin said “Fuck all your opps” anyways so

Now i don’t want to focus on the part where you can oh so very clearly hear a “ 빨리가“ at the very beginning (Surprisingly enough this girl actually understands some Korean don’t underestimate her) i wanna be realistic here, while i’ve seen some people wondering if they’ve heard a ppo-ppo sound i honestly don’t think so at all, i’m sticking with the the first one and the lights situation going on too but even that i’m not gonna focus too much on it, and for reference :

Just to clarify, for people who may have thought that was JK’s chair from the studio, Jimin’s chair is an Arena and JK’s chair is an Akracing.. With an Arena cushion 👀

Well the point is no it’s not the chair from the studio but does that change the fact that Jimin has a second GAMING chair? No. Well, yes and no, lemme explain. 

“It’s just a second chair he could be having one for if friends come over” key word here: IF. You may or may not know that there’s this unspoken rule where, despite having a spare chair or even 10 spare chairs, they don’t go with the setup, they go to a storage room or the garage or wherever you can put it away and take it out when needed, because why tf would there be a second or third chair chilling out there when the possibility of having gamer friends coming over is always questionable. 

Speaking of gamer friends, have y’all seen a gamer in real life? they don’t even need to be in the same place everybody plays from home and they chat through their headsets. No matter how rich you are or how much you can afford expensive gaming chairs, a gaming set up is precious to its owner, one just doesn’t mess up with their set up, if you’re alone, you game alone, you put ONE chair. If you do happen to have a spare chair and a gamer friend decides to visit you THEN whip out the chair from where it was stored if you don’t have a spare one, the friend can literally sit anywhere, on the floor for all i know who tf cares.

Given what happened with Boys Planet I don't think there is that much of a stigma anymore (in Korean production houses) on having done BL. I mean Mnet was GUNNING for Kim Ji Woong and he'd done 2 BLs and sort of even cobranded.

He pretty, but he not that pretty (if cultural taboo was still set firmly against him).

Like all things in Hallyu I think we can blame the wave of 2nd & 3rd gens doing BL and paving the way to production house acceptance tolerance.

I'm happy for Opp, he has the right look and I hope he has the talent to carry the group. 4th Gen Kpop needs all the outside blood it can get, Korea seems to have throughly tapped their own base if recent survival shows are anything to go by.

Story Time

Some years back, I moved to the US for work. I'd learned English at a young age, lived and worked with English-speakers and thought myself to be very fluent. Anyway, one day I had a business proposal put in front of my desk. I won't explain what exactly the product was, but the long and short of it is that at some point during the brainstorming session, "two girls one xyz" became the catchiest, most fitting tagline. My team had a good mix of old and young people who came from diverse backgrounds. We could all speak English and considered ourselves well versed in slang, but nobody in the team caught the reference until 2 weeks before launch, when in one of the campaigns, it sounded like "two girls one cup".

Now, for anyone who doesn't know what that phrase is, don't bother googling it. The gist is, I quickly learned that in America, you never say "two girls one cup". At least not in public. Everywhere else, this line doesn't mean anything, but in America and certain online communities, it means everything. By the time we found out, it was too late to revamp the campaign to change it, so we instead tweaked it to become a bit quirkier so those who caught the reference won't be totally put off by it. And overall the project was a success and caught on well in Germany, Poland and the UK, but if we didn't catch that reference in time, the campaign would've been a disaster. The way we caught the reference was someone outside the team, a local American, who immediately flagged it the minute he saw it in our outlook report. All of us fluent English-speakers had some vague idea of the various ways the campaign would look and sound, but nobody attached the meaning of "two girls one cup" to it.

And so, maybe that's why I buy the explanation offered by Ador. I can very easily see how an English professor at a Korean university, a couple of Scandinavian songwriters, and one Korean DJ, wouldn't know a Eurocentric slang interpretation of an innocuous English word. Because I myself, the first time I heard Cookie, didn't get any sexual undertones or innuendos. The song honestly just seemed cute to me… the puns in Korean were cute. Also, “taste it, smell it, bake it…” for Korean sweets and desserts, all that isn't odd to say. I mean, people here plan their whole days around trying out a new café and savouring a new sweet on the menu like it's a life-changing experience. It's fun and cute to attach that level of attention and importance to your sweets. The connection with CDs was obvious at first glance too (the CDs are huge in the MV so it's hard to miss), and given what I would call the ‘café culture’ in Korea, the play on words in Cookie seemed honest to God adorable, and a lot of my Korean friends and family (the few who listen to k-pop) felt the same. It probably sounds like I'm reaching here but overall I didn't think this was a big deal anyway.

International k-pop stans felt differently, but k-pop stans in general are easy to rile up, and even if Ador indeed had some ulterior motive, either way I don't really care.

I don't care for the same reason I don't care that Beyonce used the 'spazz' slang in her song, for the same reason I don't care Chaeyoung from Twice went around the US in a Q-Anon/nazi t-shirt, for the same reason I don't care about XG saying they've got 'opps', for the same reason I don't care that Mamamoo/Shinee have done black/brownface and never apologized for it, for the same reason I don't care that Florence Welch is apparently a Satanist, for the same reason I don't care Bang PD is likely fucking someone half his age...

And so on.

It's not because I don't understand the implications of all these issues, but the standard applied in stan twt for what is considered 'problematic' and 'cancellable' doesn't impact how I feel about music and the artists. I decide all that for myself.

And I like Cookie and NewJeans.

Born in Daegu, South Korea, as the oldest of two kids. They emigrated to the states when he was 13. Their fresh start didn't last long, with the entire family suffering a car accident that would be fatal for both their mother and father, with both kids somehow miraculously surviving. With no family in the states and their grandparents in SK having passed years prior, the two were taken into the state's custody and separated. To this day, he's never told anyone why, and he plans on keeping it that way. He went off the grid for 2 years, not speaking to a soul he had known previously.

But 6 years ago he magically reappeared, calling an old team member looking for a job, which lead him to the ATF. He's now a supervisory special agent, and has been sent to Tonopah with a team. He's become known for his unorthodox methods, but his supervisors tend not to look too closely because they like his results.

Roman hasn't had a home since they left Korea. They hadn't found a permanent residence before his parents were deported, the boys home obviously didn't count, and his time in the army was a series of different bunks and bases, even if he did get accommodation, he never was there enough to make it feel like home. Even now, with the ATF, where he has a fairly stable operating area, he doesn't have one, preferring short term rentals to putting down any roots.

He burnt his uniforms from the army in a trash can fire on the beach in Mexico, figuring it was the send off his army career deserved.

Every new city he goes to he makes sure to find three places: a good jerk chicken place (his only friend in the boys home had been from Jamaica and had gotten him hooked on the stuff), a wooded running trail, and a shitty laundromat (something about the background noise helps him work)

His personal life for the first 3 years after getting his job with the ATF was spent using the databases he had access to, to try and find his sister. He probably would have had his ass reamed if his superiors had found out he was not only looking women up but then tracking them down to see if he recognized his little sister in them. But he never did, and while he'd never truly give up, after 3 years he had exhausted all options, and began to accept he may never see her again.

Been in a slump for the past 2 days due to the BB Hot 100 clusterfuck.

As a Jimin-bias I was saddened and disheartened by the opps that Jimin face.

Its been a roller coaster since he releases SMF pt 2 where ppl were shading on his autotune. But fortunately it didnt show up much on my TL. Hence I wasnt too bothered. Anyway for me the song resonates more than LC so at my age I dont really care about other opinion but my own for important things. People will have different preferences and you cant expect everybody to like what you like or hate what you hate.

And then the 10s encore happened. To be honest when I first watched it. I cringed and dread pooled in my stomach coz I just know he is going to be dragged over it. Nevermind the stunning performances he delivered in Musicbank. But he shut up the haters again with Lee Mujin accoustic performance and I was over the moon again.

And then Billboard Hot 100 happened and I literally cried while holding my phone and posting to twitter and stationhead because I was streaming there. Couldnt sleep even though it was a working day after that night.

Anyways the takeaway here is that. I know its cliche but I also need to remind myself that Jimin knows he's love by many. More than the hatred hes receiving. The fact that he tears up during the live after BB 100 also is a testimony how it was so unexpected & moving for him.

We came down and moved on too fast from the #1 BB Hot 100. It should be celebrated more. I was reminded yet again that Jimin is the first Korean soloist to achieve that title in the last 6 decades where competition is intense and GP is bombarded with new content every other day and where content is heavily curated for the GP to consume. So lets not dim the light from that achievement.

During all these chaos, I remember a saying...

As much as I hate all these shades thrown on Jimin... A publicity good or bad is still publicity. & Jimin will become more popular, well known because of it. We as his supporters just need to share more of the good stuff so GP dont misunderstand him or receives the wrong perception.

But I have faith in Jimin because hes known to break boundaries and delivers more than what is expected of him. He never overpromises and underdeliver. He always slay and perform.

Actually know BTS since 2018 but didnt become a fan until Sep 2022. Jimin was the one who hooked me from ON MV with his blue hair and just great dance performance.

I can just binge on his Lee Mujin performance. I do think he needs to release that accoustic versions to streaming platform. Its such a waste that I cant listen to it while I sleep. His voice is a lullaby for me.

I guess the whole point of this blog is to remind myself and everyone out there that we need to celebrate more on his #1 BB 100 rather than focusing on the negative.

I was thinking that we can do a legal recourse with regards to how blatant the discrimination against Jimin is. But other than signing a global petition to boycott BB, cant think of any other way. But this discrimination against a colored and non US artist and how Armys rallied and use different platforms to support Jimin is actually the first ripple of a stone drop in the lake. It might takes away relevancy of the ruling platform like YT and chart like BB.

After all consumer doesnt like being treated as fools. Im pretty sure even non-army who saw the blatant discrimination if they are rational will also see that this kind of monopoly is not good in the long run.

Changes always start small and then ripples to become waves. I believe in Jimin. I believe in BTS. I believe in Army. Lets pay the positivity forward.

Eunhye’s room which all the girls decorating, it was filled with gold and silver accessories. Right now me and Hanbi were going to go spy on the Jongdae’s side of the party.

“Hanbi, do NOT flirt please. This is a secret mission, if anyone from their side finds out about this, I will kill you by my hands.” I said pointing my finger at her, still knowing she will do something.

“Okay okay! I won’t!” She said as she walked towards the room as I followed her.

I had a fake moustache on my face and was wearing a proper tuxedo, thanks to Eunhye’s father. (Still kinda loose)

“Oh hello! Are you guys Jongdae’s friends?” As soon as we reached trouble, I mean Oh Sehun questioned our presence.

“I—uh”

“Ye-ea actually we were his friends from college years, man I couldn’t believe he was getting married when he called me here. It took us a little bit of time for me and her— him to fly here as we came all the way from Canada.” I laughed unsustainably.

“Ahh, okay come in, we’re just setting up for the party yet.” Sehun walked in forward as me and Hanbi followed him. Silently smirking at the fact that Sehun actually fell for our plan.

As soon as we walked in, all I could say was that this place was a disaster.

“EY MAN HURRY UP! THATS NOT WHERE THE FLOWERS GO! THATS WHERE THE STRIPPERS ARE GOING TO STAND!”

“IS THE LIGHTS OKAY?”

“Baekhyun! Could you please hurry up!”

“OKAY.” As soon as I heard Baekhyun’s response, I turned to where the response came from.

My eyes widened a bit, Baekhyun’s hair was jet black.

“Wait-t didn’t this dude had red hair yesterday?” I asked sehun, as he looked at me with his eyebrows up.

“Huh yea he did, he lost a bet yesterday and we told him to dye his hair.” Sehun chuckled, before realizing, “Wait but how do you know? Didn’t you just arrive?” He interrogated.

“Oh-um I looked that the pictures at Faceboo-ok! Yea there!” I said quickly as he nodded.

“This girl uhhh, what’s her name? Uhhhh Joohyun I think? Yea it was on her Facebook, I’m friends with her actually.” I said, smirking internally.

“Oh I heard Joohyun? You know her?” Suddenly Bakehyun popped out of no where as I made an eye contact with his beautiful eyes that were almost hidden by his hair.

“Uh yea man, she had a crush on me once but I turned her down but she’s pretty hot dude, I’m probably going to ask her out by the end of this wedding, anyway I’m Lim Taegeon.” I spoke in my best deep voice, and I saw Baekhyun’s expression harden, his eyes slowly got darker as he charged on me.

“yea yea back off okay.” He whispered in a dangerous low voice, oh how attractive that voice is, before pushing me to the wall, not obviously realizing that I am Joohyun.

“Yah yeah Baek, calm down! Sorry this dude has a pretty big of a crush on her and goes all crazy about her.” Sehun explained as I kept looking at Baekhyun.

Suddenly Baekhyun’s eyes squinted for a second and then widened a bit, he pulled away. Wait did he recognize me?

I looked for Hanbi and took her outside with me.

Me and Hanbi kept walking and I excused myself and went to change in my room.

What is this, a high school? That he has a crush on me?

I quickly changed out my costume and headed back in my spare clothes. I walked back in and spilled everything to the decorators, so that our room is much better.

“Hanbi, arrange the strippers.”

It was finally the time of the party, I was in a room with Eunhye and Hanbi getting ready for the tonight’s event.

“You know Baekhyun looks at you strangely.” Hanbi suddenly spike as she shimmered eyeshadow on Eunhye’s eyes.

“What? What do you mean by ‘strangely’?” I asked as I suddenly found interest in my closet.

“You know like. . . Heart eyes and all?” She said as I gulped, “I’m pretty sure you are hallucinating, why would Baekhyun look at me out of all the girls?” I said and headed towards the bathroom with my outfit.

Me, Eunhye and Hanbi headed towards our party room. All of us were dressed and waiting to party before the wedding. This is literally the 10th party of this whole week. I supporting a flowy white top with black jeans and white heels.

“Today let’s not give two fucks and party all night!” Eunhye yelled loudly which resulted everyone in the room to go all out.

We had the DJ playing the hottest tracks, the waiters giving out safe drinks and obviously the strippers started to dance.

Eunhye has dragged me to sit beside her as the stripper put up a show in front of her, “Ahhhh! I wonder if Jongdae would do this!” My eyes widen in disgust.

“Oh my god Eunhye I do not need to know that!” I yelled and got up and walked to where the bar was.

“Can I have a tequi— actually plain water please.” I leaned back on the chair looking around the room.

I grabbed my drink and walked out of the room before my ears start to bleed, I went to the balcony at the side of the hallway. Making sure I don’t bump into anyone.

As I was waking I could hear the deep screams of the guys enjoying, I smiled and walked to the balcony.

As soon as I reached, my phone had started to ring. “Oh opp— Okay yes—op— yea liste—oh MY GOD LISTEN TO ME!”

“Bro I will be back in like 4 days, the celebrations are coming to an end and I’ll be back.” I responded to my brother, Joohyuk.

“Yea don’t worry I’ll be back.” I said and hung up,

“Brother problems?”

I turned back to see Minseok, I smiled brightly. “Yea, sometimes he gets overprotective.” I said and rubbed the back of my neck.

Without realizing, I had been talking to Minseok for about 20 minutes now.

“Alright I need to get back, Eunhye will be worried! Enjoy your night.” I said and started to walk only to be stopped by, you know it, Byun Baekhyun.

“Hey what are you guys doing? Flirting?” He asked with a ticked off look.

“Nothing, just saw each other, talked and now leaving.” I said and walked away.

“Yah, yah! Joohyun! Hold up!” I could hear Baekhyun yell, but I didn’t stop.

“Yah! Listen!”

“I love you.”

As soon as he said that, I turned around so fast that I though I would fall.

“YOU WHAT!” I yelled, ignoring the background of the music.

“Just kidding!” He said with a cheeky smile, I rolled my eyes and started to walk back to the party.

“But what if I actually liked you?!” He yelled as I showed him my middle finger while walking away as I heard him chuckling.

The party was over and it was the very next day, today finally was the traditional Korean style wedding.

“Eunhye oh my god! This hanbok is literally made for you!!” I screamed at Eunhye glancing at her beautiful wedding hanbok.

“Stopp I’m gonna die of nervousness! Only if you guys would have worn them too I would feel much better!” Eunhye whined, unfortunately we couldn’t wear them as Eunhye’s mother, Eunhye’s Grandmother and her aunt were the only ones wearing the hanboks.

“I’m glad I’m not wearing the hanbok, imagine the struggles in the washroom when I have to go and pee!” I exclaimed as Eunhye laughed,

“Guys hurry up, Jongdae’s already there!” Hanbi yelled from outside as I walked out with Eunhye.

“Eunhye, this is it. After today, well, after another wedding. Your life will be changed, make sure you both give it your best and I don’t want any stupid fights happening and you crashing at my apartment!” I huffed as Eunhye hugged me.

“Let’s go!”
