Defacement
On Thursday around 6 a.m. I woke up to a bright orange glow outside my window. At first I thought the light was pulsating, which led me to the natural conclusion that an amphibious alien craft had touched down on Lake Huron.
Peeking around the side of the window shade, I saw that it was merely a distorted sunrise, disfigured by air pollution - smoke from Canadian wildfires, in particular.  So I stepped outside and took a photo.
It’s hard to know what to say about a sunrise like this one. It’s part beautiful natural phenomenon, part air pollution; the otherworldly touches are strictly man-made.
Ironically, air pollution, as you know, can make for some spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Pollutants scatter sunlight, creating reddish, orange, or pink skies as the sun rises, or sets. It’s nothing to celebrate.
