A world where there’s only permaculture farming.
Vitamin and mineral levels in our food will skyrocket.
This will also greatly reduce the cost of our healthcare system and improve the quality of life for everyone including all wild animals.
Biodiversity will only increase, along with an increase in fertile soil.
Thankfully politicians and farmers wordwide are realizing this, it’s only a matter of patience before it happens. I am extremely grateful for this.

Grocery Stores with the Top Organic Produce Selections
Tumblr media
Schleiger says that according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), nearly 70% of fresh produce in America contains residues of potentially harmful pesticides. “These pesticides are known to disrupt hormones such as estrogen in many ways,” she says.
Harris says that when one does decide to go organic, those potentially harmful pesticide levels can drop pretty quickly. She says, “One study has shown that after just one week of eating organic produce, pesticide levels in participants’ urine dropped by almost 60%.”

Oh Happy Day, 2283 N Lake Ave, Altadena, CA 91001
Tumblr media
This place is a blast from the past – a natural food store opened by John Hopkins, a 76-year-old hippie. Over the years it’s become known as a place for healthy, homestyle, affordable, vegan food – the kind you’d expect someone in California was eating in the 1970’s. The menu includes soup, premade sandwiches, tofu stir fry, baked yams, salad, hummus, etc. The items rotate.
The store looks older with jars of spices and herbal medicine, fresh organic produce, vitamins/supplements, soaps, toiletries, snacks, organic seeds, tofu, kombucha, and so forth. It seems organized in a practical, no frills way.
It takes John awhile to get the food ready (he doesn’t move fast and the food preparation area is small). There are a few tables for sitting and eating.
Outstanding yummie yams: baked yam, steamed greens, soup of the day, side salad ($9.25). I thought steamed greens would be a mix of kale, spinach, collards, or something like that. It was mainly steamed cabbage with a bit of kale probably flavored with tamari. It was oversteamed and mushy. The yam was split open and topped with steamed greens. The soup was a very thick lentil & adzuki bean with interesting spices. The salad was better than usual – mixed greens, zucchini, raw beets, carrots, tomato, cucumber in a zesty mustard dressing. I was surprised by and really liked the dressing. The food was homey and not too salty – enjoyed that it was healthy, satisfying, and veggie heavy. Pickles or something acidic would have helped brighten the flavors.
Parking is available behind the store.
4 out of 5 stars.

Supervalu removes Israeli carrots from stores
(6 August, 2014)
Leading supermarket chain SuperValu has confirmed it ordered all stores to remove Israeli carrots from their shelves.
Despite insisting it has not enforced a boycott of goods from the country, an email instruction was sent to all 232 stores last Friday saying the Chantenay variety must not be sold.
The supermarket chain is one of more than 20 retailers written to by trade union Mandate seeking a boycott of Israeli goods and produce.
[...] Others retailers written to by the Mandate trade union over a proposed boycott include Marks & Spencer, Shaws, Tesco Ireland, Dunnes Stores, Penneys, Heatons, Debenhams, Boots, Brown Thomas, Arnotts, Arcadia Group, Aldi, Lidl, TK Maxx, BWG Foods, Smyths Toys, Londis Group, PC World and Lloyds Pharmacy.
The union famously stood by a group of Dunnes Stores workers in 1984 after they went on strike in support of Mary Manning, who was sacked after refusing to handle produce from apartheid South Africa.
[...] Mandate is also promoting a petition on change.org urging people to show support for a campaign for retailers to boycott Israeli goods.
As of midday today 7,456 people have put their names to the petition, which calls on local shops not to trade with the country and accuses it of continuing to “flagrantly breach international law and commit war crimes against the Palestinian people”.

Food Conspiracy Co-op, 412 N 4th Ave, Tucson, AZ 85705
Tumblr media
Food Co-op is a natural and organic foods market in downtown Tucson. They’re the only full-service consumer coop in Tucson and have been in business for 50 years. The market is mid-size, not as large as Whole Foods. They seem to be mission-driven and care about the community, environment, sustainability, etc.
The produce looked fresh and attractive. They also had lots of prepared foods, including housemade salads, a hot food bar ($10.99/lb), and premade sandwiches. There was also a bulk foods section. The kombucha selection was pretty good and included two local kombucha brands.
FTC kombucha in prickly pear ($4.99): didn’t have much of a kombucha taste, tasted more like a sour prickly pear juice, little carbonation
The co-op is owned by members. Parking is difficult.
