Orange County Regional History Center, 1927. The downtown Orlando building that houses @historycenterfl began its life in 1927 as the Orange County Courthouse, replacing the original courthouse from 1892. It was then replaced in turn by a new 23-story high-rise tower in 1995, and in 2000 the History Center moved in. Orlando Public Library, 1966. The library is the most prominent example of Brutalist architecture in the city. The name may sound ominous, but it comes from “Béton Brut”, or raw concrete. It came about in the mid 20th century, and is recognizable for blocky, geometric shapes, extensive use of poured concrete, and unfinished textures.
