The random item that won this week’s poll is the star ring, and I couldn’t be happier. Why? Because that ring reminds me so much of the top part of Sailor Mercury’s Star Power Stick. You know what this means: I had to create a Sailor Mercury-inspired outfit.

Because I already did a Sailor Moon-inspired look in the past, I decided that I wouldn’t do a Sailor Soldier look but instead do a look based on some of the outfits worn by Ami Mizuno (Sailor Mercury’s everyday identity) in the original anime, which is the one I grew up watching.

Even though she doesn’t always wear that colour in her everyday looks, I still decided to go with blue as the main colour for this outfit. The preppy feel of that Oscar de la Renta dress felt like a perfect fit for intellectual Ami, but I added this white cropped blouse, which is a dirndl blouse, to wear underneath to fit better with the character’s style and age. I added the belt as she seems to enjoy accessorizing her dresses with belt, seeming especially fond of the match of white belts with pale blue dresses. This Chanel belt, with its soft gold and pearls, therefore, goes with Ami’s sartorial preferences while fitting the style of the dress and the gold of the ring.

Ami being something of a bookworm, I knew I had to go with one of Olympia Le-Tan’s book-like clutches, and what better choice than one featuring the night sky when you are a Sailor Scout who fights evil by moonlight. Finally, the shoes added another touch of preppy to the outfit.

It is quite fitting that I decided to do a Sailor Mercury outfit as the Sailor Moon manga series is currently celebrating its 30th anniversary. There’s even a temporary Sailor Moon museum that opened on July 1st in Roppongi for the occasion!

Le Bal 2023

Le Bal des Débutantes is tomorrow and I'm very excited that V Muse will be the official jewelers again. We usually see a tiara or two at the event but last year was amazing because they choose an estate jeweler with a huge historical collection instead of a company making new jewelry. As far as I can tell V Muse currently has ten tiaras in their inventory and I hope to see several of them worn by this year’s participants.

with no prior confirmation that she was attending the awards, cheri made her first solo award show appearance at the 2023 MAMA. making her red carpet debut on day 1, she wore a 2019 oscar de la renta mini dress and donned vivienne westwood jewelry. day 2, she was dressed in vintage versace — the look, once again, accentuated by vivienne westwood pieces.

HIGHLIGHTS !

- everyone was so shocked to actually see her there bc mnet nor bighit confirmed that she was attending let alone performing.

- her outfits were a hot topic like OSCAR DE LA RENTA &&& VERSACE? insane

- anyway she was the most colorful person both days

- cheri showed up day 1 like wtf do i do who do i sit with. genuinely like the first day at a new school

- she opened day 2 with FEATHER / NONSENSE & WEEKEND. the theme of the stage was “what i want to say is…”

- she got into every single performance really enjoyed herself had the time of her life

- she eventually moved from her seat to be near svt and le sserafim. during both of their performances she went CRAZY

- was beyond shocked when she won 2/3 her awards in fact she was very nervous when she gave her speeches and cried in her green room afterwards.

- her members called her as soon as they could they were beyond excited

- overall two very exciting & big nights for cheri

Served a whole look for date night to drool over Paul F. Tompkins in Varietopia (my giant crush aside, it's fantastic).

Dress was made by yours truly from a 1960s crochet pattern. Purse is vintage (poshmark). Necklace is vintage Avon (etsy). Slip is Oscar de le Renta (thrifted). Shoes are Betsey Johnson (poshmark). Pronoun pin is a death head moth laser cut from apothecary octopus on etsy. Glasses are Zenni. Face is mostly e.l.f with Maybeline lipstick.

Two things these pics don't show: the immense amount of sweating I did and the fact that my heels split open on the toe box about an hour into the evening. I think they're fixable. It was my first time wearing them, and they were new in box but a few years old, so I think the glue had just gotten brittle.

The debutantes made their debut at the  Shangri-La à Paris wearing haute couture gowns from designers including Guo Pei, Gaultier Paris, Giambattista Valli,  Alexis Mabille, Oscar de la Renta, Iris van Herpen, Chanel, Stéphane Rolland, Georges Hobeika, Christian Dior, and Elie Saab

With 2/3 of the votes, today’s outfit was built around this Alessandra Rich dress. This dress gave me strong 80s vibes. It’s probably because of the slightly puffy shoulders, the bright pink colour and that flower at the waist. I could definitely see Rose or Blanche wearing it (I’ve been watching a lot of Golden Girls lately).

So, I decided to get inspired by the 80s, but with a modern twist. The designer paired that dress with black pumps from her own collection, so I decided to do the same but with shoes that had some metallic elements to them to make it less harsh and a bit less 80s. Then, the earrings. When I saw those Oscar de la Renta earrings, I was sold. They are not vintage, but they would not look out of place in the 80s, just like the dress. I felt the hair bow also added to that modern 80s vibe. Finally, I knew the clutch had to go with both the dress and the accessories, so I opted for this Olympia Le-Tan clutch which has a black background but the details are mostly in pink and purple hues.

Add a perm, and you’ve got yourself a perfect 80s look. You could either attend some benefit organized by the Golden Girls or be accused of murder by Jessica Fletcher.
