D- yes! I do have a playlist of songs I associate with certain characters, vibes, and just tracks that help get me in the headspace.

M- a couple, definitely. And they keep multiplying 😅 I really want to write some necron yuri. Phillias is right there and she spent all that time serving the awakened council. Might have been some after hours "service" with Ossuaria if you know what I mean (knight/lady devotion but make it messed up. Make the yuri toxic)

P- Gardener absolutely. I 100% let the story grow organically, I cannot plan shit out beyond a few key scenes and an ending. The rest has to come from the writing process. Does this create interesting results when writing a long fic that is going on 50+ chapters? Yes. Yes it does. But I do enjoy the challenge.

En voor ze het weten zitten ze weer in een doolhof van puzzels en levensgevaarlijke uitdagingen.

Mas ele não me deu atenção. Parecia ter esquecido que eu havia dito aos Simonson, duas vezes, que nossa resposta — a de ambos — era um sonoro não, sem concessões. Até então, desde que estávamos juntos, ele nunca havia se soltado de mim daquela forma, deixando-me sozinha diante de outras pessoas.

Toen ik ontdekte dat er een tweede boek was, wilde ik dat natuurlijk lezen. Het was helaas niet in veel talen te vinden, dus werd het een uitdaging om het dan maar in het Portugees te lezen. Eerst als een dagelijkse taak, maar op een gegeven moment gewoon als boek dat ik aan het lezen was. Daar ben ik best een beetje trots op! Ook nu weer spannend, over het algemeen redelijk logisch, en zo hier en daar ook nog informatief. Ottavia is niet altijd aardig -- soms zelfs irritant -- maar het blijft een leuk perspectief.

Any headcanons or thoughts you'd like to share about how necrons do or don't conceptualize gender?? Would love to read it 👀

Oh this is my JAM!

In my mind, I do think necrons would have a strong conception of gender and gender identity. Personal identity is such a tenuous thing for even the "sane" necrons. How powerfully they conceive of themselves is functionally the difference between life and death and one’s gender can be an important element in the soup that is The Self.

Imho the clearest example of this is in practice is my queen, my off-page icon, my paranoid mess, Anathrosis. If gender wasn't something that mattered why would she bother transitioning? Zultanekh corrects Oltyx in no uncertain terms when Oltyx accidentally misgenders her, so it’s clearly important (Ignore the wiki, ffs she is just trans it doesn't have to be a big mystery why she goes by Matriarch now)

There are male and female terms for a monarch (Phaeron vs Phaerakh) so it does seem like the necrontyr probably had a binary view of gender that merited different labels for positions of power. However, there doesn't seem to have been much of a hierarchy (at least we’ve seen no evidence of any). I would guess the *framework* for gender identity was mostly inherited from the necrontyr. As the personalities that form the necrons were largely established in flesh-times, and thus created within the structure of necrontyr society and what is gender but socially-constructed performance something something Judith Butler would have a field day with this.

As for what necron/necrontyr gender constructs are…okay is it just me or are female necrons like…super into bloodlust. You’ve got Phillias who will cut you, Xun’bakyr MOTHER OF OBLIVION who flayer cursed so hard she looped back around to sane-ish, Ossuaria and her rivalry with the Kayra that ended in mutual assassination etc. Based on this and other information I am forced to assume necron gender roles break down thusly:

Male: hyperfixations, idiot, gay Female: murder Cryptek: look, they have their own role in society, and their own dimorphism, their own viiiiiiibe tell me cryptek is not a gender, I will fight on this hill (not really. But maybe…)

Where was I…

Oh right. I think those are my big head canons. I love the themes of external acceptance of the internal self and how clearly that maps as a metaphor for gender identity (amongst other things). Female necrons will kill you (and I would consider it a privilege). Even in the grimdarkness of the 41st millennium, we respect people’s pronouns.

Hi! I absolutly love your fic The Silence and the Storm, and I wanted to ask if you maybe have a list of which character is one which side? Because there are kind of a lot and I‘m struggeling a little bit to remember who is on which side

Thank you so much! You are right there are so many characters running around. I've fallen into the classics 40k trap of too many little guys. Here's a rundown of the major characters as things stand as of chapter 42 (under the cut as there are some spoilers

Supporting Imotekh: Zahndrekh & Obyron, Orikan, Ogdovakh, and recently Oltyx. Formerly Nahumekh

Supporting Szarekh: Tholotep, Szeras, the triarchs (Hapthatra and Mesophet), and his main council of seven phaerons which includes Krispekh, Xun'bakyr, Ossuaria, Asmothep, Thoekh, Onryx, and Kephrekh (only Krispekh, Xun'bakyr, and Kephrekh have been plot relevant at this point). Amarkun and Zaa are also in this camp

Weird cases:

Anrakyr- recruited by Szarekh to gather an army for tyranid fighting but hasn't taken a side in the war

Trazyn- refused to support either side and was declared a traitor to his dynasty for this by Krispekh

Zultanekh- just vibing

Phillias- thinks the mot went to shit and is gathering support for an actual enforced compromise amongst the triarchy. Kinda considered sus by both sides but there is more hostility from the triarchy than the Sautekh

Setekh- just here to ruin Zahndrekh's day

I think that's the main characters. It's actually been an interesting challenge since, as you can see, Szarekh has way more named supporters (which seems to fit with the lore IMHO) but the bulk of the POV characters support Imotekh. And no POV character fully support Szarekh so it's been tricky to balance the fact that he has more political support with the fact that the audience sees more people fighting for Imotekh. Quirk of the fact so many of the main necron characters are Sautekh. Also Imotekh got all the O names. Which is kinda funny.
