La Iglesia Catedral Basílica Metropolitana de la Asunción de Nuestra Señora de Valencia, la Seu en valenciano, fue consagrada en 1238 por el primer obispo de Valencia posterior a la Reconquista, Fray Andrés de Albalat, pese a que su construcción se inició el 23 de junio de 1262 y se extendió hasta mediados del siglo XIV. Posee una longitud de 94 m, una anchura de 53 m y una altura de 55 m. El gótico valenciano es el estilo constructivo predominante de este templo, pero dado los años de construcción, ampliación y restauración, posee también elementos del románico, del gótico francés, del renacimiento, del barroco y del neoclasicismo. Obra del arquitecto Pere Compte, natural de Gerona, aunque avecindado y formado como arquitecto en Valencia.
