How I feel about this character

BRO. One of my favs. The fact he was the first character I played as for Borderlands games was a great choice.

I adore this guy. He's funny, anxious, a bit of an asshole. He had to learn to play Jack but he absolutely sucks at it but I think it works since nobody knows jack well, only his image. LIKE it's hilarious we play as doppelganger and everybody knows in the game we are one instead of him. Like BRO you LITERALLY HAVE ONE SINGLE JOB AND U SUCK AT IT! and then you learn he's great with guns. And you learn that doppelganger is just there to kill. Esp since in bl2 the doppelganger there also sucked ass (I loved the guy a lot. I wish we could have met one more for comparisment).

It's interesting how he sucks so bad at his job and not only that, he presents himself. He's not into doing additional work. He gets grumpy and childish sometimes with wanting to back off or run. But in the end, he continues and keeps on going.

And God. The one soldier that asks you for mercy and you can keep him alive.

Then, in the bl3 dlc, he had to kill doppelganger and hides away to survive. And somehow?? Still made friends???? That he abandoned cus he felt ashamed prob and just. God. I love this guy a lot. Top 3 for me Fr Fr

Moxxi and Timothy are similar to how I see Sasha and Rhys. Not something that would work out but, they can grow with one another.

I also think him and Rhys could be an interesting thing. They both are asshole with some softness inside and mutual trauma. They bit lost a lot due to Jack.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Give me some of that Loader Bot Timothy action. They would understand each other. I also think his relationship with Jack is very nuanced. Jack is his boss but Timothy from the first moment he gets to finally meet him talks back. He states his opinions clearly. And Jack respects the man's work enough not to jump to kill him. There is a lot to explore about how they influenced each other.

My unpopular opinion about this character

THIS MAN IS SEEN OFTEN AS LITTLE SOFT MEOW MEOW. And like he can be but PLEASE please guys. Play pre-sequel. Idk if the mischsracterisation is still a big issue and hope not but dear lort.

This man like most characters in the series IS AN ASSHOLE. He talks back, he kills for a living, and he can get nervous around folks but he also lies, just does his job and gets around. And I love him for it! You go girl <3 and as I asked you for the comparison - while he hides himself away and holds a lot of anger for misjust he had to suffer he still can get so shy around Moxxi. It doesn't make him weak, it doesn't make him a soft character. It's a part of him and i love it. The fact this man cuts his hand off to save the place too. He's used to making sacrifices. One way or another.

AND SECONDLY. I discussed it with @kitkat578 and I took their headcanon that Timothy, in fact wasn't marked under the mask, since you can't see the mark in the crack. I feel he was only told that happened, to resent Lilith. And that headcanon changed something in me.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

fic idea (stannis/cersei)

this is realllly rough so please don't judge me too much! i'm kind of just throwing stuff at the wall here. SO. here's the premise:

robert's rebellion fails. robert is killed on the trident and rhaegar takes lyanna as his second wife. lyanna (who is just a glorified hostage at this point) begs mercy for ned, who is sent to the wall, and for the family of her former betrothed (robert) to be spared.

with robert dead, tywin doesn't sack the city. instead he joins forces with rhaegar and forces the rebels to surrender. aerys, however, blows up the red keep, and elia/rhaenys/aegon/jaime all perish in the fire. (this makes jon the de facto crown prince? i suppose?) i'm not quite sure what i want to do with dany and viserys, tbh. (open to all ideas! but i think it'd be easiest for them to simply be dead)

stannis and renly are allowed to live because they did little more than starve for a year. stannis also reluctantly declares his brother a traitor to the realm and is "forgiven". that + i guess rhaegar can't really afford to cause more trouble in his kingdom bc the north hates him already + the riverlands loathe him + dorne is mad as well.

(side note, what could realistically happen to robb and cat in this scenario? would cat be married off to benjen?)

anyway so tywin is well. REALLY mad. and with rhaegar marrying lyanna, stannis is quite literally the only somewhat eligible lord left in westeros.

and that's where my crackship!otp comes in!

so we've got a young, distraught (jaime died!) cersei who hates the targs and a young, traumatised stannis (who also hates the targs) trying to make it in this new world--raising renly on storm's end and having a family of their own eventually.

with no jaime in the picture, no abuse, (stannis isnt that bitter either) and the Trauma to bond over, i do think they'd be somewhat content.

their firstborn son would be named jaime (and he looks exactly like robert did, of course, we pumping all the dead brother angst into this shit) and they have two more daughters--shireen and myrcella.

about ten years after RR, the greyjoys rise up in rebellion and rhaegar is horribly injured in the ensuing war. meanwhile lyanna has had no more children. rhaegar is losing faith in the prophecy and getting...paranoid.

on jaime's 10th nameday, he's summoned to be fostered at king's landing. both his parents absolutely LOATHE this idea, but it's quite obvious that it's not a request. renly offers to go with the boy. cersei is furious, (this is where her first jaime was killed, after all).

meanwhile, whispers of rebellion are beginning to abound again.

favorite thing about them: he has a FASCINATING range in such a short amount of time. he's a cunt he's a queen he's saying the most profound shit in act 5 he's using the word 'whim-wham' ?? i honestly didn't think much of him on my first read but the second i started actually digesting his wildly out of pocket dialogue is really when i became intrigued by his wiles. because he's rude as fuck and says deeply funny yet incredibly insane things but they actually reveal SO much about the setting

least favorite thing about them: he's the fucking worst. send post

favorite line: tie between “imagine—the worst bee, but with a blood aspect, if you knew the whole time that it was a multitude of bloods. I’m talking at least three different types of blood, here" and "somewhere out there exists a home not paid for with blood; it won’t be for us, but it will be for those who have been spared. why I like them: could have been SO GOOD in theory okay? I will never shut up about this because "character who everyone thinks is evil is actually just the victim of a smear campaign and some really bigoted propaganda" is SUCH a good character concept and I wish darkling fans were right about him because it would be so fucking cool and aesthetic

why I don't: he uh. he isn't that. he could have been so fucking iconic and instead he was just a vicious murderer. who grooms teenage girls.

favourite episode/scene: LOVE the bit where alina stabs his hand in s1e8. tbf that's more of a fav alina moment than anything else lmao, let me think... okay fr I love the "fine. make me your villain" scene bc it just really showcases who he is as a character and how he sees himself (hint: those two things are not the same)

favourite season/movie: imo he's better written in s1 of the show than in s2, idk though. and I do love his story in the kos duology lmao

favourite line: that one bit in rule of wolves where he says "everything I have done has been for ravka" because it's so clearly Not True and yet.... he clearly thinks it is.... so where does intent stop and impact begin...... it's deep okay

Moon: Her. Just her. Her entire adorable being. Her structure, how calming it is to be inside it. The way she hangs upside down on her rig a lot, especially when examining you. Her cute nicknames for you. The way she thanks you for bringing her things. Her lil beepy voice she has before giving you the mark. Everything. Her personality, her puppet, her breathtaking structure. I can’t choose one and I will not.

Hunter: Her story! How selfless her mission is, and how she’s a little creature doing her best to save someone she’s never even met before. She uses her limited time to save someone who suffers the same fate as her—body breaking down, seizing and collapsing. I also like that she’s pink :)

Least fav thing about them?

Moon: Impossible. Nothing.

Hunter: I guess…how neglected she is? She’s never anyone’s favorite campaign (just get good at the game, scrubs), and she was the only scug that didn’t get an updated ending/attention in downpour. Obviously artihunter means she’s popular within the fandom, but game-wise a lot of ppl seem to forget about her, when it’s honestly a REALLY fun campaign!

Favorite Line:

Idk what it is about this line specifically, but I legit cannot read it without bursting into tears. I managed to hold it together but I read that line in her broadcast and just lost it. I cried for like 30 minutes and had to go hug my mom.

Moon: SHE IS NOT JUST “BORING FEMALE CHARACTER.” She has personality! She’s insanely stubborn when it comes to using her seniority privileges and obviously takes her role as local group senior very seriously. She is “nice and kind” but that doesn’t make her flat/stereotypical. Of course she’s gonna be nice to the player, you’re a little helpless animal.

Hunter: PLAY HER CAMPAIGN. PLEASE. It is not as daunting as you think it is, ESPECIALLY if you’ve beaten downpour cats! It IS challenging, but for me it really brings back the spirit of the original game: youre a helpless little creature. You can’t generate spears out of your ass, you can’t make explosives, all you can do is run slightly faster and throw spears slightly harder. You have to use your wit and skill to get through it, but it is so worth it.

what they smell like: Canonically he smells like walnuts from his armor polish! I imagine he also smells like choji oil, which is derived from cloves, so he smells surprisingly spicy! He also smells more coppery after a mission.

an otp: Gency! They've been my otp for like 5 years now!

a notp: Dvenji or Bunnyninja or whatever. They're buddies, don't make it weird.

favorite platonic/familial relationships: Zen and Tracer! Obviously his relationship with Hanzo is vital to his character, but I love writing his conversations with Zen and I also love how his dynamic with Tracer can have these multiple layers of mentor, peer, and subordinate.

a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with: Godddd the damage done by the 'I need healing' meme...the poor guy deserves better than that, but at the very least it made Genjis super self-conscious in game so that they're actually one of the most polite and supportive DPS's when it comes to healing, in my 5 kajillion hours as Mercy, at least. Also this fandom can be pretty awful about his accent/Japanese in fics... like worse than Hanzo's 'cowman' awful.

the position they sleep in: He overheats so easily but still he curls up! Prefers to sleep on his organic side rather than his prosthetic side.

what they smell like: He doesn't smell all that good from all the Anguished Wandering he does--blood and sake is unfortunately a frequent scent. But when he can clean up he prefers dignified woodsy scents.

Phoenix scowls at her friend and lowers her strawberry daiquiri snow cone: “Bradshaw, you’re such a killjoy.”

Despite Phoenix’s words, Bradley shoots a skeptical look at the colorful sprinkles on Bob’s soft serve and the WSO pouts slightly: “Rooster, don’t you like your soft serve?”

“Just shut up and enjoy your soft serve” Phoenix scolds him, before stretching and lying back on the deckchair, to stare at the ocean and taste her snow cone, with Bob doing the same next to her.

Jake sits down on the beach towel they had previously laid on the sand, pats the spot beside him and smiles at his boyfriend: “Come on, Bradshaw, don’t be such a sourpuss”. Bradley shakes his head and sits next to him on the same towel, trying to focus on his chocolate soft serve: “I am not, Jake.”

Jake smirks wickedly at him, the warm glow of the afternoon sun kissing his nose and cheekbones: “Be less dad and more daddy.”

“Stop that right now, Bagman”, Phoenix doesn’t even look at him, her voice dripping with annoyance.

“Yes, ma’am”, Jake goes back to his soft serve, a mischievous grin on his face, and Bradley would really like to enjoy the nuts that garnish his dessert, but he finds it difficult to take his eyes off of Jake, who’s giving kitten licks to the cream along the edges of his cone.

Jake meets his gaze, pleased, as he sucks off the soft curl on top, swirling the tongue around the tip, his eyes locked with Bradley’s. He smiles at him, running his tongue over his teeth, and Bradley is gawking at him, his jeans already getting tighter.

Jake starts nibbling at the waffle cone slowly, his lips shiny and soft, and Bradley is dying to have those lips and teeth marking his abs and thighs. Jake goes back to licking the sides of his cone unhurriedly, from bottom to top, switching his gaze to Bradley’s eyes, and he gently pushes down the ice cream with his tongue, before taking small bites of the waffle cone, tickling its edges with his lips. Bradley is out of breath, at the mercy of Jake’s cheap tricks, he’s in his 30s and he would like to feel ashamed for this, but he can’t find it within himself to care, not when Jake is batting his eyelashes at him and all he wants is to devour him.

Jake hollows his cheeks and sucks the drips that are leaking from the bottom of his cone, and Bradley can’t stop himself from picturing him on his knees, worshipping him, and he has to close his eyes to catch his breath. He opens his eyes again to gaze intently at the vanilla cream that has trailed down Jake’s chin.

Jake swipes his fingers over his skin to collect some cream, he glances guiltily at Bradley and whispers, his voice low and innocent: “I’m a mess”. He pushes his fingers past his own lips and sucks the digits greedily, his eyes lidded and an expression of pure pleasure on his face, an expression that Bradley knows damn well. The pilot’s positive that, if Bob and Phoenix weren’t so close, Jake, that little shit, would be putting on a show of soft moans. God, he loves those moans.

Bradley cannot help but gape at Jake, until the soft serve is gone, and palm himself through his jeans absent-mindedly, and it’s only when Jake smiles at him and stares at the soft serve long-forgotten in his hand, that Bradley realizes that his ice cream has dribbled down his fingers.

“Oh, let me help”, Jake murmurs quietly, taking Bradley’s soft serve to free his hand. He then brings his fingers up to his lips, kissing them gently and licking away every drip, his tongue excruciatingly slow on his skin. He sucks the fingertips while staring at Bradley with pleading eyes, his hand squeezing Bradley’s lightly.

Bradley bites back a groan, the violent urge to wreck Jake taking over, and he suddenly stands up; Jake is taken aback by his abrupt motion, he’s about to complain but Bradley grabs his hand and bursts out: “We gotta go!”

Phoenix doesn’t even turn and waves her hand above her head, Jake stands up too and Bradley starts dragging him, darting across the beach.

“What’s gotten into you?” Jake asks with an amused voice, feigning surprise.

“Holy shit, Jake, you know full well what has gotten into me” replies Bradley in a husky whisper, glaring at him.

Jake grins impishly: “Didn’t you say we’re old?”

“All the better, so i won’t have to ask permission for what i’m going to do to you.”

Bradley can feel Jake smirking without looking at him, they’re both quickening their pace, and he turns to glance at Phoenix and Bob one last time. He can’t hear what Phoenix is telling Bob from that distance, but he has never seen him blushing so hard.

Maybe Jake wasn’t that subtle, after all.

Yi Bang-won/Nam Seon-ho for the ask game, please! 💙

One of my OTPS <3

What made you ship it?

Good acting chemistry. The banter in their first meeting, and Bang-won's surprise at Seon-ho killing his horse when he initially thought Seon-ho was annoying but probably toothless. That was made me interested in their dynamic at first, but the lasting appeal is a lot about their parallels, the various instances of Seon-ho attacking Bang-won or breaking into his house, and the time Bang-won spared Seon-ho's life after his coup.

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Their similarities--two coolly ruthless dudes with high political ambitions and dads who would sacrifice them if necessary, for whom they've had to commit murder and more. The way Bang-won should by his own worldview have no respect for Seon-ho but still has some pity and empathy for him, and Seon-ho's intense hatred and mistrust of Seon-ho in return. I think it reflects in some way how they feel about themselves: Bang-won sees himself mirrored in Seon-ho and feels some scorn but also pity, while Seon-ho sees his worst parts mirrored in Bang-won and just hates him, especially in context of Bang-won's relationship with Hwi. If that makes sense. I love that you can have any range of functional to dysfunctional relationship here and it still feels real to the characters: You can imagine them cooperating and having a sort of antagonistic alliance, but you can also easily picture a much darker dynamic. In particular, Seon-ho constantly loses to Bang-won (in a sense, he's at a disadvantage from the beginning), and Bang-won generally doesn't take advantage of his weakness, which gives itself well to either kind of dynamic: the fact that Bang-won has mercy on him makes you believe the two could someday get along and have hope for a kinder relationship, but also makes you wonder what would happen if Bang-won did take advantage.

Also they're both obsessed with Hwi and have a sort of rivalry there. So that's always sexy in an OT3 sense but also just in a shared pining and mutual understanding sense.

3.Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I think I've played this game with this ship before and at the time I said this ship isn't really popular enough to have unpopular opinions about it, but uh... I think even if they were together, Bang-won would still kill Nam Jeon. If Seon-ho asked him not to, he would still do it bc he doesn't prioritize ppl's feelings or even his own feelings over his political ambitions, as can be seen by him killing Seo Geom and Poeun. If Seon-ho said he wanted to kill Nam Jeon himself, he would still do it bc he wouldn't want Seon-ho to carry that emotional burden and also bc he'd kind of expect Seon-ho to fall through. If Seon-ho was in favor of him killing Nam Jeon, however, I think part of him would be a little turned off and repulsed by that, bc despite his eventual betrayal of Yi Seung-gye he was loyal to Seung-gye for a long time and would never actually kill him. And I think he'd be like "not to be a hypocrite bc I also want to kill your dad but. you're messed up dude." and also I don't think he'd like Seon-ho using him to do his dirty work. (Seon-ho being in favor of taking Nam Jeon down politically, however, I don't think he'd mind. He'd do as much to his own father. It's reasonable.)

Since it’s for two separate characters, I’ll do two separate posts, so come back later for Ashlyn’s :)

But here is Kourtney’s!

Favorite thing about them: Oh, for sure her confidence. To me confidence isn’t about having fear, but being willing to push through the fear and she does this time and time again. From her anxiety to her fear of telling Howie she liked him to her fear of trying singing in front of everyone, she has been able to muster up the courage to push through. She inspired me to be more proud of who I am and try new things, even if there is a risk of failing

Least favorite thing about them: I actually have two for this one.

1) sometimes the way they make her act/sing/dance in the show is a little… immature? Like when she is singing BTBB or Fabulous they made her do some really over the top dance moves that made me genuinely feel like I was watching a kids show, so I cringed a little. That’s not on Dara though, that is 100% the directing.

2) I don’t like that they made her basically the “funny black best friend” in season 1. This is a common stereotyped trope in a lot of tv and I know the black community has fought hard to put these characters in less degrading roles. (I’m not black, so if you have more questions about this or want to learn more, I would highly suggest learning from someone of color- there are a lot of incredible resources, even here on tumblr). It has been a fantastic breath of fresh air to see Kourtney really start to shine as her own character as opposed to Nini’s sidekick since s2.

Something I expect from them season 4 (if applicable): I wrote an entire post about what I believe will happen with Kourtney here, but I really think she will play out that Sharpay/jealous of Gabriella getting the lead role. When Gina gets the lead, it will cause a rifle in their friendship. I also think that Jet will follow her around like Zeke.

Random Headcanon: I don’t know how much it is of a headcanon per-say, but I think we missed a lot of moments of her and Jet getting to know each other. I think they probably got really close at Camp Shallow Lake, but it was shown off screen so we’d be surprised in the doc. All their touching, talking, Jet being “team Kourtney” in the background leads me to believe they were developing a relationship off screen

Unpopular Opinion: Outside of S1, it is very unbelievable that Kourtney and Nini are best friends. Even while Olivia was a main s2, her arc was so Ricky focused, Kourt was out of the picture a lot. I kind of wish they either would have kept up with them being close or just made Kourtney her own main from the get go (and look how loved she is now! She was only supposed to be in one episode!)

Favorite picture of them: so technically it’s from a video but I was obsessed with everything about it when Dara dropped it!! Absolutely bodied Sharpay. Literally it’s such a pretty video that if Kourtney took it, Jet would be on his hands and knees begging for mercy.

4. When scared, does your OC fight, flee, freeze or fawn?

Mercy: Mercy fights. Mercy is all fight. 100% fight. With guns or knives. When she first left the vault, she'd freeze for a moment - but not anymore. Case in point, a deathclaw threatened to attack Deacon when he was injured and unconscious. Not only was her first instinct to shoot at it with an energy weapon, but when that didn't work - she pulled out a combat knife and killed it. All. Fight. Mercy - pick less fights. Please.

Sparrow: If Sparrow can flee, she'll flee. At least, that's her first instinct when scared. Flee and hide. Get smaller. Roll in mud. Hide. If she has to hurt you to get away, she'll pull a knife and do it. She's a kitten with a bird name - hiss hiss, claw, run away. Then Grace adopts her she gains a lot of self-worth, self-love, friends...family...and now, even when scared, she'll fight. She'll fight because being alone again is scarier than anything else out there.

7. What's one way your OC has changed since you first came up with them?

Mercy: So far - not much. Well no, not true. She's had children. And she has three lovers. And adopted a bunch of people...but other than that, not much?

Sparrow: OH MY GOD SO MUCH. Everything. Who she loves (she started with Bean and then Darcy showed up). How she gets kids (started off asking Darcy and Levi for help and now it's...um...it's way more organic). If she asks for help from Dr. Avery (a synth psychiatrist - Avery is pretty cool) - before? Nope. No? Yep. If her family is still alive...if she finds them...where they are...how happy are they to see her...how many babies she has...if she rides a llama for fun...Sparrow has fully developed into my favorite OC and is her own person with fully realized wants and dreams now. Before, she was just an idea. Now - well...now I'm working on a separate story for her.

8. Would your OC ostensibly be able to get away with murder?

Mercy: Yeah - she was a defense attorney. She's argued down worse things than murder. And besides - what's murder in the Commonwealth? Who decides that? Are there laws for places outside of settlements? She figures, as long as she's got right on her side - she'll win any argument. And she has the charisma and intelligence to do it.

Sparrow: Before Grace adopts her? No. Hell, she couldn't even steal a hanky without getting shot at. After Grace? Who wants to tell Grace Williams that her daughter murdered somebody in cold blood? Or hot blood? Who wants to tell GRACE that Sparrow should be killed for murder? Nobody - that's who. Sparrow couldn't get away with murder, but Grace would make people let her go.

9. Do you have a specific lyric or quote which you associate with your OC?

Mercy: "I hate bullies." She thinks it, she says it, she acts because of it. And the statement, "They were taken from me." Mercy doesn't take kindly to people touching what's hers. Be that friends, family, lovers...her gun. Just don't do it.

Sparrow: Gin Wigmores "I Will Love You" is an entire song that encompasses how Sparrow loves. How she loves Bean and how she loves Darcy. As much as she loves Bean, Darcy is her OTP. In every world state Fallout happens, in every version...in every universe...Darcy & Sparrow find each other. The lyrics "Give me a lifetime and then fifteen more to find the words that will explain how I need you, how I see you, how you are everything that I have..." She loves Bean completely. But she drowns in Darcy and she, perhaps more than anybody, sees him for his needs, his wants, his fears, and accepts him 110%.

Arven rolled his eyes and blushed in spite of himself. He sat on a flat rock, his striped, orange khakis bunched around his ankles. "I don't see anything cute about it," he scoffed back, the blush deepening in colour.

"W-well," the platinum-haired boy stammered, wracking his brain for something sarcastic and coming back empty-handed. "Are you going to do something about it or what, student council girl? This was your idea, after all, I only brought us here to look for sandwich herbs!" 

 

Nemona laughed, "Okay, okay, chill out!" 

 

Arven gulped as she knelt down on her knees to kiss him on the head, once then twice, before nuzzling his shaft like a mischievous Pawmot, never breaking eye contact with her lover.

“You ready to come for me, cutie?” Nemona asked as if the answer wasn't red and throbbing in front of her face. 

 

“ Si, mami !” Arven practically sobbed. “Please!”

 

Nemona wasted no time roughly pumping his length and Arven rocked his hips needily, squeezing the girl’s other hand so intensely his knuckles turned white. 

 

The walls of the cave blurred to white as the pressure in Arven’s loins reached its fiery peak. He threw his head back and wailed before decorating his girlfriend’s face in a copious array of liquid pearl. 

 

Nemona yelled something but he heard none of it over the rapid beating of his heart as he came down from climax.

#FFxivWrite2022 - Day 27 Prompt: "Hail"

I tried to use an old-timey-fantasy version of the word "hail". I did. But then my brain realized that bad weather was an opportunity to smush my OTP together into shelter alone, and well. The fluff brainworms are too strong.

A sharp wind raked across the island, bowing the palm trees and churning up some truly spectacular waves in the bay. Two figures stood on an outcropping overlooking the lush valley, clothes and hair whipping about wildly as they surveyed the scene.

“I promise it is usually much more pleasant than this,” Keimwyda said, smiling apologetically at Aymeric.

“Nonsense, I still am quite pleased,” he replied. He looked around. Though he had taken her advice to dress for warm weather, he still wore a light cloak, which he pulled tighter around himself. “Do you suppose the weather will hold?”

“Oh, certainly not. Quite rude of it to greet you like this on your first visit.”

“Hah. Well, give it a stern talking to for me, if you would be so kind.”

Keimwyda cast her eyes upwards, noting the speed of the clouds rolling by overhead. “At least it seems it will blow through quickly.”

As if overhearing their conversation, a few heavy drops of rain spattered to the ground.

“...I propose we head back to the cabin,” she said.

“I quite agree.”

The two assumed a brisk pace as they turned, simultaneously realizing their walk had taken them a good distance further than they realized. 

“Halone have mercy,” Aymeric muttered as the rain began to threaten itself in more earnestness.

“Ah, perhaps I neglected to warn you,” Keimwyda said, smiling, “The water here is actually liquid when it falls from the sky.”

“Indeed!” he laughed. “Such a phenomenon. I shall endeavor not to be too frightened of it.”

“Forgive me, it is not kind for me to make light of… ow!” she yelped.

He was about to assure her that he enjoyed the humor, but was cut off at hearing her cry. “Are you all right?”

“I could have sworn…ah!” she said again, her hand going to her head. She glanced up at the sky, and then around at the ground. “Do not tell me…”

“Oh,” Aymeric joined in surprise, as he, too, felt a sting upon his head. Small white orbs of ice, no bigger than a pea, began to bounce along the path around them.

“Now this is a poor jest!” Keimwyda bemoaned. “This way. The bathhouse is closer than the cabin.”

Aymeric slipped off his cloak and held it over their heads. The two were near enough in height that he could reach, but she was just enough taller that it was obviously an awkward strain, and the garment was falling over her eyes.

“You were saying something about liquid water from the sky?” he said, struggling to get the words out through his laughter.

“Yes, yes, it serves me right,” she laughed, tucking her own arm under her end of the cloak to help him. “Quickly!”

They broke into a run and veered onto the branching path to the bathhouse—perhaps not the most obvious place to seek shelter from wet weather, but it was close and had a roof. It would do. They stumbled over the threshold and looked back behind them, with both rain and hail properly coming down now. They had taken shelter just in time.

“Welcome to paradise,” Keimwyda said helplessly, with a welcoming gesture that was more of a shrug.

“‘Tis a dream,” Aymeric laughed. His voice soon gave way to a more serious tone. “Your crops—will they survive?”

“I am not sure,” she replied thoughtfully. “I have admittedly not been here that long, but I have not seen weather like this on the island before. So long as the hail stays small, I think the popotoes and onions should not know that anything had gone amiss. The tomatoes on the vine may well suffer bruising, though.”

“I am sorry,” he offered.

She blew it off. “It is hardly a great loss. This is more of a garden than a proper farm. And the climate is mild enough—well, most of the time—that it shall not be that long to grow others. This is certainly a matter of ‘hobby’ and not ‘livelihood’. I daresay I shall recover.”

“A hobby, she says!” he laughed, shaking his head and surveying the view through the rain. “I struggle to comprehend that this place was uninhabited but a few moons ago.”

“It still practically is,” she objected. “I am not even here full time.”

He shot her a look. “My darling. We are sitting in your heated bathhouse. You must admit it is a little impressive.”

“The mammets have done all the heavy work, really. I simply show up and give orders.”

He folded his arms and narrowed his eyes at her. “Has anyone told you that you can be truly dreadful at accepting praise?” he asked.

“Aside from you?” she replied, her face reddening. “…Yes, actually. Several.”

He nudged his shoulder into her playfully. “So then accept it. I know you have put some hard work in here as well.”

She leaned into him in return and smiled. “I am grateful for it. Genuinely. Tataru knew me well to know that this is the kind of escape I would enjoy.”

“Is it so difficult to simply relax and do nothing?” he asked.

Now it was her turn to shoot him a look. “I think you are not one to talk. But no, I do find this relaxing in its own way.”

“How so?”

She turned her gaze back into the rain with a faraway look. “In some ways, it reminds me of where I grew up. The Shroud is obviously a bit of a different ecosystem, but… tending to a garden, gathering wood, foraging reeds to weave? ‘Twas the way Miss Estelle ran her house and I was brought up helping her. It just feels… familiar? And normal, I suppose.”

He slipped an arm around her waist. “Do you miss it, then?”

“Not exactly,” she shrugged. “I do not regret the path life has taken me on. I am grateful my horizons expanded.”

“Aye, to be the Warrior of Light is quite a different calling.”

“And yet…” she trailed off, trying to find the words to say what she truly meant. She was not well used to talking about her inner thoughts, and it did not come easily to her. “I think that is why I yet find this so comforting. This is the sort of life I led when nobody knew me. I had never crossed blades with a primal. I knew ‘the echo’ as naught but the sound bouncing about in a cave.  Not a soul looked to me for salvation. There were no grand expectations upon me—I was just the odd, stray Roegadyn with a little homestead in the forest.”

She lowered her eyes and continued. “I think… I think it is simply nice to not have to be the Warrior of Light for a while.”

He regarded her softly, and raised up to place a light kiss upon her cheek. “In that case, I am full glad you have this place,” he said.

“Not that I am not grateful and happy for what I do,” she began to clarify.

“No! No. I quite understand.” He smiled. “May I join you, and not have to be the Lord Speaker for a while?”

“With pleasure.” The corner of her mouth quirked up in a smirk. “I can well assure you, that these mammets do not care.”

Shanks - These are My People by Rodney Atkins. I grew up a country girl and so my playlist for Shanks ends up with a lot of country. A lot of the Zac Brown Band and so I almost went with a favorite for him: Knee Deep. But whenever I write for Shanks I think of the lyrics: Just lovin' and laughin' and bustin' our asses, and we all call it all livin' the dream and I think it's exactly Shanks and the Red Hair Pirates. Shanks is free to do what he pleases, he and his crew laugh a lot and love a lot, but he's also got responsibilities he takes very seriously.

Mercy - Compass by Lady A. So let your heart, sweetheart / Be your compass when you're lost. Those lyrics are really the ones that help me get into the Mercy vibe when I write her. She's just a character that follows her heart and follows what is kind. She doesn't hold grudges and she likes to believe in the best of people. I'm a sucker for characters that are soft in hard times, can you tell?

Cherise - Blank Space by Taylor Swift. So when I wrote this character first it was for an OP RP on gaiaonline. I really wanted a character with a baseball bat who was kinda reckless. Then she started falling in love and getting cheated on and having that be her starting action. This was in 2014 right when 1989 came out and Blank Space was on the radio and it fit everything I wanted about her. So I ran with it. Now she's the one who falls in loves and then makes it go down in flames. I don't know how much of it she knows she's doing, but she still has lured men in with her pretty eyes and innocent facade before turning into that nightmare in the song. 'Cause you know I love the players / And you love the game really sums it up.

Jessie - Getaway Car by Taylor Swift. Honestly I cannot explain how much I truly love this muse. When I was a kid I thought she was mean and didn't like her much but now as an adult woman dealing with the world, I get her. I'm also a mega rocketshipper, so she and James are OTP for me. This song kinda describes that, and the lyrics Don't pretend it's such a mystery / Think about the place where you first met me are just... like people are surprised what she is who she is. But she was born in Team Rocket, and at the point she's at in most of the series she's sure she'll die there. She's a villain, the world wanted her to be a villain, so she's given up trying to be anything else.

These aren't all my muses, ofc, but I think it's a start. I'm still trying to find just the right song for the other ones. Probably something from Eels for Smoker and Benn.
