Hi hello I’ve been rotating ur hunger au around for a month it’s soooo good! but one thing I just keep wondering is like, what if grian hadn’t been found out until later in the games, say after secret life? Considering that would also be farther along in Hermitcraft season 9, after the crossover and buttercups, would anything significant change in litd ?

OH GODS OUGH...... well okay lemme put it this way. Pov you find out one of your closest friends whom you deeply trust has been highkey using and manipulating you for YEARS and is the reason for a huge chunk of your horrific trauma. And didnt say anything about it, didnt try to do damage control or come clean, just accepted that this would fuck you up beyond belief and kept doing it because it meant they could keep living. Like..... listen Grian coming back after doing this thrice is already a difficult enough sell, but 5 times????? Holy shit forget it i think AT BEST he'd get like. I think thered be a lot more RAGE than there is rn, and a lot more bitterness, which sure is saying something since theres plenty of that to go around in canon as it is. Absolutely fucked end tbh i dont think thered be a huge chance for Grian to ever go back not even years and years later like in ia au. Even in the face of him dying. Idk i just cant see the hermits letting him back in or wanting anything to do with him on the whole after fucking up that badly, yknow???

Three times kinda hits that sweet spot to me, where its fucked up but it was spread out over years and Grian tried so fucking hard every single time to resist, so it makes sense that things are very difficult to get through when trying to mend fences but isnt impossible. But considering double life, limited life, AND secret life all took place within s9, i think that,, makes a huge difference in how things would go, tbh. My headcanon for the au is that each "season" takes place over a few years, but even by that timeline thats still three major fuck ups in a much shorter timespan, and not given the sorta,,,, bookending??? Ig??? Of taking place during separate seasons.

So uh, tldr; bad!! it would go so so bad. Idk what exactly would change majorly-wise but i think that betrayal would sting a LOT harsher than it does in canon (which is already pretty strong) and Grian's chances of getting help would be,,,, severely diminished, oughhhhgh

i've had a few people make generalized art for the AU, but i don't know if anyone's ever illustrated a specific scene! the reconciliation is a good pick.

the first one that came to mind for me, though -- at least if you were to do it comic-style -- is the scene where luz and hunter fight after she dreams about killing him. probably not the entire fight itself because it's dialogue-heavy.... but opening with her suffocating him in-dream, then her waking up in a cold sweat with him just fine beside her.... her catapulting out of the bed, ripping her hand away from him when he touches her?? MM THAT'S THE STUFF. especially if it ends on hunter being like "i KNOW belos did something to you." & luz's face, battling both dream-horror and taking in the Implications.

GOD it would be so cool. tragically i am not an artiste and it would be an insane undertaking for an actual artiste to do, but i do Love thinking about it. OUGH.

That’s how he gets you!!!

-Also as someone who has started journaling my scythe journal would be UNREADABLE I have AWFUL handwriting

-Killing 5 people a week, and 260 a year is INSANE!! Again it’s no wonder a lot of scythes are so desensitized to this shit, and even revel in it, you kind of have to, just for your own sanity

YESS it is hard for me to talk about itachi because i have complicated feelings and i'm whatever the opposite of eloquent is but here it goes !

favorite thing about them: ok i know everyone and their mom's favorite itachi thing is that ough he's really the good guy NOPE. i like when he's crazy. i like the moments where you see him crack. i like that he genuinely believed ruining his brother's life was the Right thing to do. i like that the cycle of violence didn't end with him. i know that sounds fucking insane but listen,

least favorite thing about them: it is the fans. itachi fans are so bad. you get the ones who are like "HE SOLOS MADARA. HE COULD KILL GOD." and then you get the ones who are like "he's my sweet baby 🥺 he's innocent and never did anything wrong 💔" and both of them are so Painfully Off Base and are ignoring like the Actual complexity of his character it makes it Insufferable to exist in fan spaces

favorite line: OH it's when he first talks to kisame and he says "anyone who has raised their hand against a comrade, even once, never dies a decent death. remember that." and kisame says "which means you and i are both worthless" and it's one of my favorite interactions of any characters of all time

brOTP: nagato, easy. and by extension konan

OTP: kisaita. they break my heart for real. they're so painfully similar. villages so corrupt they force them into a place they can only kill their way out of. then the split happens where itachi stays loyal to konoha while kisame would watch kiri burn. kisame seeking truth while all itachi does is hide behind lies. like there's such poetry in them.

nOTP: increasingly i am tired of seeing him with d*idara 😭 (censoring that cause i don't know how to shut up, skip to the next bullet if you don't care what i'm on about) i feel like That scene is out of context too much. he only ever saw itachi as a threat. he had no Respect for what itachi did, he was Angry. he was humiliated and outdone by this guy who wasn't even trying. like yes at first it was awe but when it didn't mean anything to itachi, that changed. he literally trained himself to Kill itachi. he was SO mad and really so HURT fighting sasuke because of how Little sasuke cared about him (0% btw) and how he KNEW that look from itachi. so yeah. it's. i don't like it very much at all

random headcanon: ugh. i always had this thing with him and kisame, since itachi has no option but to lie and kisame is NOT for that, they have this rule that itachi Won't ever flat out lie to him, he'll put on the act for kakashi or sasuke or anyone from his old home, but not kisame. omissions of truth maybe, but he's as open and honest as he feels he can be. which over time becomes, Incredibly Honest. to the point of kisame knowing that when he goes to face sasuke the intention is, that's the end.

-so first off i don’t have to do much to make it fucked up. the whole “sollux getting mind controlled into killing aradia” thing is already pretty fucked up. but idk i also think about how, like, at a certain point, aradia knew the game would destroy alternia, and decided she just wasn’t going to tell sollux, and encourage him to finish programming it anyway. and like obviously playing sgrub was the only way to save their friends and all that but still she could’ve like…. TOLD him this huge element of what he was doing. Not to mention that when he finally came around to participating she put him to sleep which a) made him get enough mind honey in his mouth that he blew up the roof of his apartment and killed his lusus and b) cost him enough time getting INTO the game that it probably contributed a lot to him dying in the vast glub. AND AGAIN she only really did any of this because she knew the alternative was a doomed timeline, but like. there’s some major betrayal of trust there! there’s like. this element of mirroring between vriska forcing sollux’s hand into hurting aradia, and fate/the timeline/the voices/etc forcing aradia to do some real sketchy shit to sollux, and BRO it makes me go fucking insane (which is another point on the bingo board lol)

-basically canon: i dont think this needs much more explanation. look at them. i guess i can also get into the “idk what their relationship is” thing tho like. they are CLEARLY… something. maybe its pale maybe its red but frankly neither of them seems like the kind of person that would consider it important to define it. they just, like. want to be together and be a part of each other’s lives and they don’t seem too picky about what that looks like as long as they’re together. and i eat that shit RIGHT up bro.

-this is also kind of the ethos for “theyre not dating but they’re married” like FRANKLY. i like to interpret them as like. idk simply being so damn comfy and domestic with each other at a certain point that it doesn’t actually occur to them to like… have a Discrete Conversation in which they determine that they are a couple. like maybe one or both of them intends to bring it up someday at the beginning but eventually they have just been so deeply entwined in each others’ lives that like. it would be weird to bring up since they’re basically already just married. they’re a unit. do not separate them. bonded pair. adopt together ONLY.

-i can make it so stupid: look. they are also really fucking funny together. literally just read their pesterlogs together and tell me they arent constantly arguing (recreationally not like. actually heated arguments) about dumb shit and teasing each other because they both DO dumb shit. they are utter dweebs. aradia says shit like “i think your outfit looks quite spiffy” unironically. sollux has his own goddamn custom emotes for when he makes bad puns. i love them

-thematically delicious: its about being doomed. its about loss of agency. its about being sacrificed for the greater good over and over and then one day freeing yourself from the cycle. its about being one of the few who live to the end of the story but only because you decided to leave the story. OUGH.

-the inherent eroticism of attempted murder: i think people forget that when terezi originally decided to kill vriska to avenge aradia’s death, sollux was the one she enlisted to trace doc scratch’s typewriter. he was like, involved in that murder attempt. it didnt work of course but like dude fully intended to help kill vriska. arasol is “tried to kill vriska” solidarity

- theyre sweet/the devotion: bro sollux didnt go on the meteor with karkat kanaya and terezi because he wanted to reconnect with aradia. karkat kanaya and terezi are like. arguably the dude’s best fucking friends. he just exploded his whole brain out of his face to save them and then he sees aradia and is like well. i think thats enough self-sacrifice for one day. maybe i will actually just relax now. LIKE COME ON!!!!! they are out there for potentially eternity floating thru the bubbles, which are inherently transient and impermanent, and there is no truly stable place for them to anchor except each other like god DAMN dude. i am mentally unwell about it.

If this question is about which characters I think have the best vocals: I think rui is my favorite but I also really like akito/haruka/nene/mizuki/saki/ichika/an/ena.

If it’s about the best covers (not counting commissioned songs the list would get too long): ikanaide (<- PEAK. First pjsk song added to my music library. The versions on YouTube without miku are even better*), shoujo rei, At God’s mercy, mizuki’s Charles alt, rui’s as you like it alt (all of his alts are good that one’s just a favorite), nene’s racing into the night alt, ifuudoudou, akito’s airhead and fragile alts (his airhead alt is. So good.) are a few off the top of my head.

Constraining myself to just wxs bc of the image limit. And also I’m biased so most of them would have been wxs anyways.

Absolute favorite card. Emunene real. If I have to spark for this and destroy my savings for wxs world link I will be so mad but I will do it.

Emu cards are always so good… I don’t think I can pull for Sanrio emu though despite it being one of my favorites (devastating) (saving for wxs world link). A shout out to her untrained Phoenix card & Torpe card too… they’re so cute.

Rui also has rlly good cards I think his cyber punk card is probably in my top 10 (also can’t pull for it) and his white day card… ough the lighting/pose/composition (still mad I couldn’t pull for that)

These untraineds are favorites just because they make me giggle. Tsukasa in a crisis is Always Hysterical (also why I like his untrained Phoenix/3rd year/doll festival* cards) but I think I’ve said [insert untrained pandemonium card] while talking abt tsukasa 100 times (which I got from you) because it’s never not funny. The gokart card is just really cute I love rui’s dumb expression and the fact that he’s too goddamn tall for this ride/the pure joy on emu’s face as she turns her car directly into rui presumably in an attempt to run him off the road (I support it). But the best part of it is 100% nene being a girl failure in the back like how did you fuck up so badly. Do not let her behind the wheel of a car ever. The expression of gamer rage on her face… her mario kart skills did not transfer over… she’s pissed. 10/10.

*Doll festival card gets an extra shout out. Why is rui there. He’s not in the side stories at all. The implication that he either 1) saw tsukasa acting like the world was ending and just went “not my problem” and walked away or 2) went to go eat lunch with him and walked in on him with his head in his hands having a capital c Crisis & had to deal with that is so funny.

(character dynamics ask game) OUGH... these two... really really really good pair. fuck. admittely not one that has gotten a lot of screentime for me but the potential here is INSANE

6. what does A think B thinks of them? or, if asked to describe their relationship, how would they do it? are they right?

HMMM. well i think to start out with the easier one, palina probably assumes calaba thinks of her the same way the rest of the clan does: as a failure who's mostly still in her position out of a combination of nepotism and pity. calaba, as the oldest warden by a HUGE margin, is i think also the most conservative in terms of clan matters. if any of the wardens were going to get on palina's case about training growlithe, it would probably be either her or maybe gaeric. palina was also prrrobably one of the ones to first bridge the idea of trying to get the leaders to form a truce? which. i'm not really sure how calaba felt abt that, tbh. but to sum up, the vibe palina gets from calaba is "you are actively failing the pearl clan."

which... is not entirely incorrect, but it's not fully correct either. i think while calaba is frequently frustrated by palina (and. most of the other wardens tbh) she also feels a little bit of... hope? that she does not like to fully acknowledge, and certainly not voice, but. that maybe them being a little "softer" and more willing to collaborate and admit/allow weakness isn't such a terrible thing. maybe it'll make for a better world. if nobody comes along to take advantage of that all first, of course

otoh i think... calaba wonders a lot what palina thinks of her. like, palina obviously respects her, but they just think so differently like. conceptually. about everything. does she think she's ignorant? out of touch? has she done a good enough job actually teaching her everything she needs to know? i imagine since palina was also a candidate for leader those two must have had some sort of mentor figure dynamic going on, in the past if not currently. and i think palina wants calaba's approval, but also can't bring herself to be as strict with the other wardens and irida and growlithe as calaba wants her to be, and isn't fully willing to bend on that issue for her approval. it's a kind of very frustrating situation on both sides

10. how well does A think they know B? are they correct?

-as just mentioned i think calaba would have been a primary teacher to palina for a while, so i imagine she does know her very well, but like... a younger version of her. that perhaps has not been updated in a while. look, when you're almost 100, everyone looks like a little kid, alright. and she doesn't really feel like palina can have possibly changed enough to deserve revisiting her assumptions about her.

otoh palina would be unwilling to actually claim she knows calaba very well, but uh. that close contact learning each other goes both ways! while palina may not fully understand calaba internally, she can predict her pretty damn well.

13. if A needed help, how likely would they be to ask B for it?

ooh, thiiiis is a tough one... honestly i think they'd both be reluctant to. palina because she doesn't want to open up whatever inevitable lecture/argument/etc, calaba bc she doesn't want palina to think she needs it. yanno.

ANYWAY your progress report today comes along with some Al-Cid/Ashe propaganda because LOOK AT THEM

So I got my extra little bits, scurried back up the Pharos all over again, whupped Hashmal's arse, cried my way through the next set of cutscenes after fighting Cid and Noah, and then CRIED EVEN MORE, OUGH. I love that part of the game, but it hurts man. It hurts! So many feels!! Good feels, bittersweet feels. Ship feels. The works!

I love how the sun cryst powered the Bahamut, built by Cid for Vayne (never over this, btw), and how complex the war machinations are afterwards with the Rozarrians and the Bhujerban resistance, and how Al-Cid still desire peace and will work behind the scenes to build it. How Ashe smiles - a genuine, warm smile - to realise that she's not alone in her fight to save Rabanastre (the last cap, not aimed at Al-Cid alas LOL), and Al-Cid's blatant hitting on her AS WELL AS Balthier's disgust in the background (I love the three of them so damn much, this is bringing back alllll my old ot3 feels hoo boy).

So I kinda wanted to try for a maximillian and magepower shishak and a few more levels before going onto the endgame, cos I finished up that part at lv44s, but I'm gonna need to do a lot of hunts to unlock that part of Lhusu Mines and I don't think I can be fucked lol, so I think tomorrow I'm gonna try the last bit and see how I go! So far I've got about 36 hours on this save, which is actually kinda insane! I let myself do a lil detour through Nabreus Deadlands and cleaned out the Necrohol of its goodies (and stocked up on hi-ethers from that lil baknamy merchant lol), which was nice. I love the Necrohol, it's one of my favourite areas in the whole game.

(I've just had Normal thoughts brewing for so long with nowhere to spew them I've thought about rhinedottir Genshin impact a normal amount) but another Bedtime story my brain tells me is where Alice sets up a surprise reunion because Rhine at her core is a loving mother, but mental issues and abyssal corruption warped her to slowly become colder towards Albedo until she left him. BUT!!! months later she showed up in front of Alice crying because she just now processed she pushed her human son out of her life and (after being like "I know😐 I had to take that broken child in😐") Alice finds a way to bring them together again (usually my brain says it's set up as her coming to see Klee). Rhinedottir was going to play it cool and try to keep her emotions controlled while she apologized, but Albedo was so shocked to see her again that he calls her mom while crying. The last time he called her that was when he first learned to speak, so hearing it now just breaks her. It ends with both crying and hugging each other because they deserve some familial love

I think it isn't acknowledged enough that Rhine DID seem to be good (at some point) at the beginning,, because as much as we can take into account the fact that most her kids don't perceive things normally; I doubt literally all of them (besides dorian. because he's a unique case. LMAO) would be so enamored with her as their mother/creator IF she hadn't been a loving mother at one point or another, or in atleast one aspect..,,, which is why she is most certainly fucked up after seeing half of those guys die. there's most certianly something, deep in her heart!!! you are so right!!!!!!!!!!! I appreciate the idea of Alice of all people being the one to facillitate it sooo mmuch,,,,, alice's character is built sosoo well on the idea of family and compassion... after chastising her for being a deadbeat mother,, i doubt she'd let the chance for her to plan this slip by (ESPECIALLY considering the fact albedo is so obviously keen on seeing her again) its just auguhhhhhh... they are such a little family and they make me ill.

cracked rear view by hunnyhawk is. it!!! hhrhnsasdxcgshcxdg!! yeah so i have such a weakness for siken and i think a lot of trent's life as like. a gay man in the media centered on one of the most macho man subjects rife with homophobia really mirrors the panic that underlines all of siken's work and i love this fic for drawing those parallels!!

What Do You Love? by thegables!!!! god. god. like what i said before about cracked rear view but also just like. as much as i love the idea of trent being emblematic of the Journalism Experience i also love the idea that there's a part of him that just Cant Be the vicious uncaring journalist feeding into and becoming the intrusive nature of working in the media and that part of his growth is realizing that that inability to truly be that isnt a bad thing??? i love this fic

LAST BUT NOT LEAST all of the Headlines, Deadlines series by laiqualaurelote but especially the trent-centric fics <333 as someone that has worked in journalism (at least on a school level) i love how much these fics really dig into like. for lack of better wording the "good" parts of journalism?? when i go to college in the fall i'll be studying law, but my dream job would really be legal journalism, and these fics really reminded me how much i love journalism as an industry, despite the flaws it's rife with. constant as a northern star (constantly in the dark) especially has my heart because i love sachiko and she is the ONLY character i can ever see as trent's wife.

Do you have a favourite storyline/story arc across any of the games?

ough definitely a few. there’s none i’d say are perfect (is there ever a perfect storyline) but several definitely come close. julius and playa’s whole tragedy makes me feel insane. that storyline, the themes and implications and just how classically agonizing it all is……it’s just so good. creating someone in your own image and being so terrified by the outcome you must destroy it. fuck man. probably my favorite of the series. it really is the catalyst for everything in playa’s life going forward. it changed everything and its effects are felt in every game, even if only subtly.

i have a lot of issues with how johnny and aisha’s story gets treated by the overall narrative, however i’d be lying if i said it wasn’t a favorite. i mean y’all know me i’d do anything for those two. number one johnny/aisha fan forever and ever. i think i love the potential development it brings up rather than the actual execution of it; i mean, srtt literally stops it dead in its tracks. but hey. taps the rewrite sign. that’s what i’m here for.

god and speaking of faves. troy and dex’s personal arcs. the foreshadowing in sr1 with troy is fucking phenomenal and it brings up soooo much interesting potential that was begging for sr2 to expand upon but. nothing. similarly sr2 sets up dex to have this huge spanning arc, going from friends (and if you’re anteros, lovers) to enemies. but then shit got in the way and it just became a jumbled, out of character mess. like really? jeopardizing stilwater? he would not fucking do that. and then not even getting a proper conclusion? bye.

this is getting away from me. julius and playa’s whole thing still wins by a fucking mile. honorable mention to the would-be plot of shaundi’s survivor’s guilt that we almost got.
