𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 1 May is International Workers' Day, or Labour Day in some parts, the annual celebration of workers promoted by the international labour movement. The meaning, spirit and entire rationale of the day are all captured in this photo by OS Ace Alcantara Flores on the bulk carrier “AFRICAN SPOONBILL”. Together, just as they set out, a weary team trudges back in stained PPE after a long and tough shift of painting and other maintenance. Looking forward to a clean-up and some food and well-earned downtime, these four seafarers remind us all just what it is to make a living doing many hours of physical work, often with discomfort and sometimes with dangers to manage, and they and all alike will ever have the admiration, respect and support of everyone in the Synergy Marine Group.

𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘆Today is the tenth celebration of the International Day of Happiness, which recognises the vital importance of this precious and priceless commodity.It cannot be hunted, caught, reared, grown or mined, yet its individual and global measure is the direct result of human behaviour. An unspoken language understood worldwide, it finds expression in the home, classroom and workplace, and in United Nations calls to combat inequality, national initiatives to tackle poverty, corporate drives to improve morale and a group of mates gathering for great fun or serious work. In this very last sense it is of particular importance on board ship. It is both the catalyst for and the product of camaraderie, respect and a sense of belonging. All these are abstract but very real, and they underpin good fellowship and mutual care.People behave better outwardly if they are inwardly content, and a happy crew means a safer ship.

𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 Artisanship rewards its originator with hours of quiet concentration and deep satisfaction in a fine result, and allows others to marvel at a wonder of intricacy and skill. So, here, with a discreetly proud Pumpman Winston Vaiz Virgin Anton Jude, who has spent much of his downtime complimenting his workplace, the STENA CONVOY, by making and painting scale models, together with a tug and other vessels. And for many there is further elation in the thought that, amid all the screen-based entertainment of 2023, the craft knife can still supplant the games console and the paintbrush likewise the microchip.
