My OBX3 Rant

So, it’s been a few days since the season 3 trailer for Outer Banks came out, and I’m irritated and scared for the fate of this show. Netflix is notorious for having a great show turn to crap around the 3rd and 4th season. I fear that Outer Banks will become a hot mess.

Like don’t get me wrong, visually the trailer was really appealing, and some of the storylines were intriguing, but overall I’m concerned for a few reasons:

1. This show is so heterosexual. Like there aren’t even side characters that are apart of the LGBTQ+ community. Like be foreal, a friend group with all straight folks....hmmm just doesn’t seem that realistic. Like, the writers are telling me Cleo is, checks notes, straight? Like sister was all over Sarah in season 2, “Sarah, my girl,” ring any bells? 

Also, Kie, definitely doesn’t like men, because when John B kissed her, she immediately was thrown off. Then she gets with Pope, and after having sex with him, she literally said “that didn’t feel like it should’ve, like no fireworks, etc.” I just feel like that’s room for her to open up and explore her sexuality. The whole Kie and Sarah friendship, turned enemies back to friendship, would’ve been so cute if they had a fling their freshmen year, but Sarah didn’t want others to know about her and Kie, so that’s why they ended their friendship in the first place. I just think having Kie being passed around her friend group just pisses me off and the lack of her story line also pisses me off. 

Lastly, for this point, I am a JJPope stan, so I want JJ and Pope to be together, they just have so much more chemistry, but even if they don’t get together, I need Kie to be with a girl. This show is just so STRAIGHT, like BFFR. 

2. I’m mad they keep bringing folks back from the died, but not Sheriff Peterkin..like if anyone should be brought back it’s her, not Ward. I love that John B is gonna reunite with his dad, and that scene that was shown is gonna be heartbreaking, but I’m mad they one, showed it in the trailer, and two, made that a little predictable. Like I know we saw him at the very end of season 2′s finale, but I thought it was a flashback, I was very wrong. 

3. I want Cleo to have a good story line, not just the token Black girl, and I know the writers have Pope and Cleo lined up to get together, and I wouldn’t be upset at that, but I need it to be NATURAL, slow burn if you will. I don’t think Cleo likes boys, like she just doesn’t give me that, and it’d be nice to have her and Pope be a bestie duo. But on the flip side, I do love the black love representation, I just don’t know if the writers will even do that storyline justice. 

4. I need all of the Pogues to get rest. Like these folks haven’t showered nor rested for 2 seasons, and then this one looks like it’ll be nonstop. Like Sarah needs to rid herself of her family, and save Wheezie. Justice for Wheezie. Like that scene with Topper, I wanted to vomit. I know it’s most likely a flashback, but I don’t wanna see that. He’s a weirdo and folks keep wanting to give him a redemption arc. JJ needs rest, I wish he’d stayed with the Heywards. I hope we see his anxiety being addressed this season. John B needs a break too, like please let this man rest. 

5. Rafe and Ward need to DIE, or get thrown in prison and throw away the key. PERIOD, he doesn’t need a love story, nor a redemption arc. 

6. Why are they solving ANOTHER mystery? I know that’s the plot of the show at this point, but they haven’t even gotten the gold or the cross. Like moving onto another mystery...really? 

I know this rant may not seem like I’m excited for this season, I am, but I’m scared for the outcome. Also, this shows lack of representation is concerning. The fact that the directors are feeding into the fan service is also telling of what the show can end of being in the future. 

But that’s the end of my rant, I’ll just be reading OBX fanfics.

OBX S3 Rant

Hi hello good morning/afternoon/evening. I am gonna talk about my feelings and thoughts on OBX because one single person encouraged it lmao. Feel free to ignore this post or to pour your heart out in the comments. 

My main feelings on S3 of OBX: Underwhelming. Did I binge it in a day? Yes. But I was left incredibly underwhelmed and frankly found myself not really caring about some of the characters and relationships by the last episode. I did laugh or gasp or teared up on the occasion but I was not left with the eagerness of a new season. I know this is gonna be a hot take but season 3 of OBX should’ve been the last season and they should’ve pulled an Elite and done short stories to wrap up the three couples. All the plots have ended. The gold has been found, the cross has been dealt with, and the villains have been taken care of.

Speaking of the bad guys....

What they did with Limbrey felt like they had no idea how to wrap up her character/plot. You’re telling me she and her goons pulled the strings and terrorized some teens when she could’ve just held a dirty old rag to her face and walked? Not only was she incredibly underused but she could’ve made the perfect villain. 

IMO, Singh shouldn’t have been killed off. I personally think he deserved the money more than Big John because he had some motive apart from just ‘greedy guy searching for lost treasure’. For someone who was the main villain of S3, he had really little screentime and I kinda found myself rooting for him cause of Big John. 

Now, Topper isn’t really a villain. He’s just a plot deceive to cause drama between Sarah and John B. Is he a whiny rich kid? Yes. Is he a good person? No. Am I seeing him as a bad guy for committing arson? Considering the Pogues only cared about the house burning down for like 2 mins before they moved on, not really lmao. Topper could’ve had his redemption arc or the beginnings of one this season. He was definitely a bigger character this season but he was ultimately used to help the Pogues and make Sarah look bad.

Rafe.... This fucking guy. While sometimes annoying, Rafe is a good villain. I enjoy watching him and his delusions. I’m jealous Fiona Paloma played his girlfriend and at the end of the day, the show wouldn’t be the same without him. I also think that with a lot of time, he can get some sort of redemption (with the viewers. The Pogues will likely never forgive him). My only real problem with him are his stans. No, not the ones who acknowledge his flaws and wrongdoings. I’m talking about the girlies who dismiss everything he does because of his daddy issues. News flash lovelies, Pope is quite literally the only character on the show without some form of daddy issues. Truthfully, those specific stans only like him cause they think he’s hot. But that’s something the writers/directors can’t fix.

Now onto the Pogues themselves...

When I first watched OBX, I had mixed feelings on John B. I rooted for him, I enjoyed his dialogue and determination. Now? I could care less about him. Like a good friend of mine says, he’s like stale bread. Nothing really amazing about him. And if we’re being real, he’s not a good friend and an even worse boyfriend. Something about saying your best friend since grade school is gonna end up like his abusive alcoholic father never felt right to me. Alas, I do believe he got the short end of the stick with his father. Big John was the real villain of OBX S3 and he should’ve been treated as such. He gave his son more trauma at the end of the day.

I always liked Sarah. I know she’s the typical hot girl who gets with the musty main character and her whole character arc then revolves around said musty man. But she’s an interesting character who deserves a whole lot more than being reduced to the girlfriend who cheats for quite literally no reason cause they end up making up almost right after. They could’ve done so much more with her and I think they just need to keep her and John B platonic. Sometimes fast burns aren’t all that romantic. And honestly, Sarah feels like just the girlfriend. She barely interacts with anyone in the group alone apart from Kie and JB.

I liked Kiara at the start and I’ll admit I do headcanon her as lesbian cause the material is all right there the writers are such cowards. But I was open to Jiara even though they always had more so bickering siblings vibes to me. It was... horribly executed in my honest opinion. It was obvious they never did a chemistry test for them. Jiara stans PLEASE understand, many of us did not see what y’all saw in prior seasons and therefore it felt very forced and sudden. That said, I believe Jiara stans deserved more than what they got. That first kiss was very Disney. Plus, It’s sad to see both characters personalities shift so suddenly because it truly makes it seem like Jiara was done purely to pull in views for the show.

Pope and Cleo were cute but I hated that they got together so quickly. I wanted to see more yearning, more glances, more lingering stares... I would’ve loved to see them realize they like each other. I get that they’re teens but everyone on this show throws the L word around so carelessly. It loses meaning when someone tells the other they love them. I wished they would’ve shown us their friendship develop into romance.

On the flip side, I despise that they made everyone get together and then proceeded to not give us friendships like Sarah with JJ/Pope, Cleo with JJ/JB, Kiara with Pope/JB. This show went from being about found family and friendship to purely chaos and romance. Girls can be just friends with guys. 

Overall....

Season 3 felt both fast paced yet slow at the same time. So much could’ve been done and the show could’ve been wrapped up with this season. I fear OBX will end up like Riverdale and Elite. Corny, way too unrealistic, and dragged on.

It was a sunny day in April, you had just finished your classes for the day. It was noon, you didn’t really know what the time was till you got out of class. You looked at your phone and saw your lockscreen said ‘2:34pm’. You shrugged, you felt your stomach rumble. You thought of what to eat, you were gonna have your food later. But you wanted a snack, so you headed to a near by store.

Walking into the store, you looked around for anything appetising. That’s when you saw the fruit section. My oh my, did you feel a strong craving for those juicy looking raspberries. You grabbed a box of them, heading over to the cash register and paying the worker. Once you had put your card back into your phone case. You grabbed your raspberries and headed out the store and down the street.

Using the crosswalk, you crossed the surprisingly quiet street. You knew some of the girls had their boyfriends over, from last night. You definitely did not want to chance walking in and hearing them from the foyer. So you looked around, thinking of an idea. That’s when you saw the frat house. You mumbled to yourself “bingo.”

You walked past the sorority house and walked to the end of the street, to the frat house. You walk down the path and to the front door. You knock on the door, no answer. You rang the ring doorbell, you smile and lean down to its level. You speak to the doorbell “hello wonderful people, are any of you home??”

A familiar voice replied “only Rafe and Top are home, go in if you want.” You smiled at your brother’s response. “Alright, thanks Kai, bye!” You opened the front door and walk in. Closing the door behind you. You walked around the place looking for any sign of life.

You headed upstairs, you hear Topper and you’d assume his hook up from last night. You pull a cringed face, you look in the other direction towards the end of the hall. You smile and walk down, towards Rafe’s room.

You knock on the door and open it a little, “hello?? Rafe?? You in here??” The door opened widely. There he was, just in sweatpants and socks. You looked up at him “hey.” He smiled “what’s up?” “Company??” He chuckled and stepped to the side “so you’ve come to me for company?? Thought the girls were done with class by now too?”

You walk into the room, slinging your backpack on the floor at the end of his bed. “I didn’t wanna chance hearing them with their boyfriends… but then again I just heard Top with his hook up.” Rafe laughed. “Yeah they’ve been going at it for a while.” He walks over and sits on the bed “what’s with the raspberries??”

“Felt hungry… want one?”

“Sure.”

You gasp “I said one, bitch! Not a fucking handful”

“Hey! Watch who you’re calling bitch, hoe.”

You gasp “watch your mouth, Rafe Cameron.”

“You watch yours!!”

You both stared at each other, then you Topper’s hook up moan loudly. You both burst out laughing.

Once your laughing died down, Rafe rested his back against the headboard. As you laid on your stomach, the box of raspberries in front of you.

Rafe asked “so what do you wanna talk about? How was your classes??” You huffed “honestly?? Alright, it was the girl in my class that pissed me off.” Rafe smirked “ooo is this drama??” You shrug “fucking could be.” Rafe’s eyebrow raised “could be?” You nodded “if she keeps running her mouth…”

Rafe was intrigued, Y/n didn’t get mad often over drama, something must be up.

“Go head, spill it all…”

You sighed “so this girl, Y/e/n-”

He interrupted “what the fuck has she done now?!”

You chuckle “well, she kept staring at me in class and whispering… but sometimes she’d talk a little louder so I could hear…”

“What was she saying??”

You continued “she was saying how-” you did your best impression of the pick me girl you hated “oh my god, you know at last night party, you’d never guess who I made out with… Rafe, can you believe it.” You playfully shivered and cringed at your mind replaying the memory. Rafe smirked “oh is that so? She said that?”

You nodded “yeah she fucking said that, she also said” you mimicked the girl again “oh, he also gave me his snap, said he wants me to go to the frat house and said to bring condoms.” You roll your eyes at the memory of her saying that.

Rafe laughs, “she fucking said that?! Ahaha!” You looked at him with a grin as you popped another raspberry into your mouth.

Rafe looks at you, “princess, you know I don’t have her snap, or ever made out with her right, and that I don’t plan on getting anywhere near that fucking girl…”

You nodded “oh I know, but she still pisses me off, acting like you’re hers and shit… pisses me off.”

Rafe smirked at that ‘acting like you’re hers.’

“Oh yeah? And did you say anything?? I know you’d probably say something to piss her off to…”

You smirk “oh I did.” “What did you say??” You smiled and answered “I said ‘oh I wouldn’t worry, Rafe and I had a lot of funny after the party was over.” Rafe grinned “oh yeah? All we did was cuddle while I was drunk.” You chuckled “yeah, but she doesn’t need to know that.” Rafe grinned. Were you getting jealous??? Of course you were.

Rafe asked “so whose am I then?” You shrugged playfully “anyone but hers, wouldn’t waste your breath on her…”

Rafe smirked “you’re pulling a me, right now.” You raised an eyebrow. He continued “jealous, princess, are you jealous??” “Pfft no, fuck off, I’m not jealous.” “Oh I think you are…”

You roll your eyes, you throw the empty box into the trash can near his bedroom door. You look at him “you plan on having any girls over today?” “No? The fuck?”

You smiled “just curious, Rafey.”

He smiled. “Oh yeah? Why’s that?”

You replied “I don’t feel like going back to the sorority house tonight…” he replied “oh is this your silent way of asking to sleepover?” You nodded. He grinned “magic word?” You clasped your hands together and playfully mocked “oh pretty please, Rafey, please let me stay over!”

He laughed and playfully flicked your forehead, you swatted his hand. Rafe replied “magic word is abracadabra, but I guess… I just have to accept your pretty face, huh?” You roll your eyes. “Hey! That’s my saying!.”

He smirked, pulling you into his lap. He spoke “anyways… if you’re spending the night, and you’re still jealous of-” “I’m not jealous…” “sure you not, sweetheart… but I still think you should have a reminder of who is my favourite girl…” you smirked “touché, Cameron….”

It pisses me of so much how Drew isn't present for the promotion of OBX4. This man single handleldy carried all three seasons and literally is the reason why half of the fandom even exists. So, its so annoying to see just how little Drew is in these promotions and teasers and interviews—like the one released recently with all the pogues announcing s4 being a wrap literally could've included Drew, its not that complicated. He's easily the hottest person on the show and literally a big reason why the series even hit it off (genuinely everyone I talk to, only watched the show because of his tt edits). Ofcourse, I love the entire cast and I'm not trying to discredit them, but Drew Starkey is simply miles ahead of them. For OBX4 I need to see more of him in interviews and stuff—genuinely I do not get why the production team isn't utilising him more, both in the show and outside of it, when he easily is the best thing about OBX. Not only do I need to see him more active in the promotion, but more screen time in the show as well!! He's so under utisilised by the team, I'll never shut up about it. Like, you have such a hot actor playing a hot messed up dude and Rafe hit off with the girlies, how are u not gonna take advantage of it???

I think the reason why so many people hate dark content is because they don’t understand it.

Incest for example has been a big topic on this side of tumblr as kinktober approaches and a few writers, including myself have mentioned it.

why is writing incest bad? It’s not, up front. the moment it becomes bad is when you romanticise it. the same goes for other dark topics, for example necrophilia or blatant rape.

acknowledging that these things exist is not a bad thing, and neither is acknowledging that there are certain people out there who do it. it is a horrible truth that nobody wants to exist, but it does.

using the infamous rafe cameron as an example, why would you want to read an incest piece about him?

rafe is a complicated character, and a very bad person. a lot of writers don’t like to take that into account. I’m sure we’ve all seen many works where rafe is portrayed as a sweetheart, a perfect husband who cares and would never do anything to harm you.

this portrayal of rafe has become the norm for many people on this platform. and so upon seeing dark content, they are trying to imagine it with this completely different character. the version of rafe that is romanticised.

when we write this content we don’t write it with that rafe in mind. we don’t want to be with this version of rafe that we’re writing, this is a bad character and we absolutely recognise it when writing him.

of course, as mentioned there are people who are imagining it with romanticised rafe, and also assume that was the rafe it was intended to be written with.

if that was the case then writing this content most definitely would be bad.

but why would we write dark content with a reader insert if we didn’t want this to happen to us? what is the point? that’s a valid question.

primarily, self insert or ‘x reader’ is just the format that we write in. even though we may be imagining our name and or face it’s not necessarily us. reader is just a character, let’s use puppy!reader for an example, she has her own characteristics specific to the reader or character. I don’t think I am puppy reader, but I love to use her character to write a reader.

self insert and second person writing is also a very good way to explore the thoughts, feelings and actions in a character in very great detail, which a lot of writers very much enjoy doing.

this is also another misconception that people make. because in some of the situations the reader goes along with / wants these things to happen, which is very easy to mistake for writer wanting it too.

so now we know that self insert does not mean desire. but even if we don’t desire this, why do we write it?

there are many reasons. one is character analysis. there are plenty of bad characters out there, and they would do that. we are simply acknowledging that.

we like to explore complexities and nuances of characters. this character would want to do that and so how would that play out? who would it be with and what would the feelings and emotions be? it’s interesting to explore darker parts of different characters.

another reason is trauma, to people without it that sounds ridiculous. but people with trauma in these kinds of situations may find comfort or control in reading about it in a safe environment.

I have a lot of childhood trauma, and there are certain pieces of writing centred around that kind of thing can really help me to think about it and help me to control the way I think about it.

now there are some aspects of dark content that we may say we “want”, but that is generally misunderstood.

let’s use a sentence I have said many a time, “I want rafe to fuck me with a gun”. no, I absolutely do not.

I am into humiliation and power play, I also enjoy a little bit of fear and pain in some circumstances. in a safe environment, for example, a fictional one, a gun would be a perfect way to do these things.

obviously in real life I wouldn’t let anyone come near me with a gun. it’s all about interpretation and understanding of safe environments.

when I’m reading a fic where gun play may be involved I read about the humiliation and power play and all sorts and think oh fuck that is sexy. because it is, in this very safe place where a gun is not going to harm me or anyone.

the same goes for lots of other forms of dark content. we might not necessarily want the exact action, but more the sensation or feeling that comes with the action.

but why would we write it when people are going to be triggered by it?

simply put, that is not our problem. I haven’t ever come across a piece of dark content that wasn’t correctly labelled and warned.

I’m not responsible for anyone else’s media consumption, if they choose to ignore my warnings it is entirely their fault.

also, free will exists, if someone decides they don’t like what they’re reading they can simply close the piece, stop reading.

in a nutshell, if someone who writes dark content is 1. not romanticising it and 2. labelling it correctly, you don’t have a reason to target them.

learning to distinguish between dark content and predatory content is so important so we’re not attacking the wrong people.

please stop targeting writers who write dark content when there are people out there who genuinely are horrible who we do need to be targeting. focus your attention on the real issues.

Random thought: everyone talks about the parentification that JJ experienced and that’s so true but has nobody talked about how Rafe experienced the exact same thing?! Like I just know that boy did not experience emotional availability from a very young age and it shows. I just know his father was never mature enough to handle Rafe’s emotions and it shows.

Like all I can think about is when Rafe was released from jail in S2 and literally nobody was there to pick him up. No one. You know as sad as that was that Rafe was used to it in a weird way, just feeling like once again he had to be the adult and figure it out. His character is soooooo much deeper than we give him credit for on the surface level and the more I think about his back story the more justified I become in loving him and understanding why he is the way he is.

I’m probably gonna get dog-piled for this, but as a fan of OBX, I don’t understand the hype about Rafe at all.

I can see his visual appeal and the fact that some of yall are into more violent characters (can’t judge, me too). But the entire time while watching the show, I only saw him as a whiney bitch who acted like a numbskull who could only get things done through violence and acting like a big guard dog for the wrong people. I mean, maybe I misinterpreted his character, but that’s how I see him.

So other than at a very basic level, I don’t see the appeal. Feel free to enlighten me if you feel strongly.

I kind of worded this wrong, but I do think Rafe is a good and emotionally developed character in the show. The way I described him was more of a summary/ based on an idea that he is not some big dom ‘throw you across the room’ daddy as I’ve seen him portrayed in countless fanfictions. His character has integrity and potential, and I genuinely feel it has been diminished because of the sexualization of the actor instead of understanding his actual character. I don’t think Rafe is violent because that’s how he is (or that he’s some dommy daddy type action). That was my point when describing him that way, which looking back was messy.

My point was—Rafe and his violence is not supposed to be attractive because it’s not who he is. He uses it to get approval. You can tell that underneath he has heart and is redeemable. But I think that there are people in the OBX community that took his violent nature to heart instead of understanding the character and used it to make him more desirable. Hope this clarification helped in this discussion.

Can I say something potentially controversial? I haven't been in this fandom long enough to feel out the prevailing opinions so here's a take:

Idk why people hate on [redacted, not trying to start shit] when John B is right there.

I'm so (not) sorry but like- as someone that was and is so fucking lucky to have grown up with an absolutely ride or die tightknit friend group like the OBX kids, FUCK JOHN B.

Why? Because he's the only one that never checks in on JJ. He makes faces when JJ eats ROTTEN FOOD in his house like "wow ur so gross lol" like he doesn't know that boy LITERALLY DOES NOT HAVE FOOD AT HOME. He straight up ignores JJ in one episode when he actually tells him, "can we eat first? I haven't eaten in two days" like?!?? He disappears and leaves all his friends hanging when he finds [spoiler, iykyk]. He causes discord by bringing Sarah in where she was EXPRESSLY UNINVITED instead of talking it through with Kie first. He ignores Sarah's warning about the Nassau house and nearly gets them both killed. Meanwhile:

Pope expresses concern over JJ's situation multiple times, by hugging him, apologizing, and checking in. He's a kid and he doesn't know what to do, but he clearly does what he can and worries about JJ. He goes along with the group's schemes even when it jeapordizes his whole future and the life his parents are trying so hard to set up for him. He talks through emotions with Kie when theyre friends and does his best not to hold all the mixed signals against her after dating. And while I don't think he's right for it, he also criticizes Kiara for not being there wholeass when John B's dad disappeared, which shows he was. He's always getting into conflicts with and hurting his parents for John B's schemes.

Kiara not only comforts JJ, she's also the ONLY one to confront his dad (despite the danger). She offers to go in with him when he has to talk to his dad. She makes the connection between his reckless behavior and his fucked up childhood. She also checks in on John B numerous times in the first season because she knows he's avoiding and suppressing the trauma of his dad being most likely dead. She also calls ALL the boys out consistently, but usually with a lot of tact and kindness for acting out on the feelings they're avoiding.

Obviously JJ self-sacrifices for his friends all the time. Taking the fall for Pope, risking his future committing crimes to help his friends, and often risking his life for them, or making deals others wouldn't to get them out of a pinch quick. He also tries to call John B out for risking his and everyone else's lives on the incredibly slim chance his father is still alive and trying to leave a trail of bread crumbs early on. In fact, he seems to be the most realistic and honest about Big John when he's talking to John B, and the others criticize him for his lack of tact, but he's the only one who seems to realize feeding into delusions isn't a kind thing to do in the long run. He goes in INSTANTLY when he finds out Pope got jumped, he goes feral when Kiara gets kidnapped (long before he realizes there's any chance of dating her), runs headlong back into a fight with 4 or 5 guys when Raefe insults her, loses his job publicly defending John B from murder accusations etc etc etc...and let's not forget after getting beat half to death by his dad, emotionally trainwrecked because no matter what he does he seems to lose, he blows the money on what? A car? A boat? His shitty house with no food? NO. He orders a bunch of shit he can enjoy with his friends and spends the whole evening setting up fucking christmas lights in the trees despite the amount of evident pain he's in just so they can all be happy and have something TOGETHER. And I'm just gonna stop there because the list literally drags on like crazy, he does everything for his friends, especially John B.

And what has John B done for his friends?

Hmmmmm well there's that one time he stops JJ from starting a shootout with the entire sheriff's department and going down swinging by turning himself in.

Now on the other hand, he repeatedly manipulates his friends into doing things they don't want to or shouldn't do, often at the risk of their lives. He basically spends all of season 2 on a revenge quest, culminating in him not even considering that he should comfort his girlfriend when her father dies in front of them. Repeats what other people say about JJ being "just like his dad" despite knowing both his circumstances and that it's a trigger for him. There's that one time he goes home for the gun to kill Ward and basically ATTACKS all his friends to get through without talking about it?? And never apologizes?? Isn't ever concerned about Pope's scholarship, or in any way sensitive to the fact that he's BLACK and so much of what they get into involves his own generational trauma?! Is told several times Kiara's on the verge of being sent away to a Troubled Teen camp and straight up never once acknowledges or comments about that at all? Shows up to confront Topper and Sarah at Kiara's parents' party, knowing full well she's on thin ice and her parents DO NOT like any of them right now, including having just had a blowout with JJ, who insists on staying out of it.

Honestly, he got real tired of [same spoiler] by the end of season 3, so I'm hoping now they're dead in season 4 he's finally gonna wake up and start looking after his friends more because up to this point? Dude lacks empathy to a criminal degree and has a mad case of toxic main character syndrome.

Just like...as someone who was considered "the glue" to my own group of extremely troubled youths, all of us traumatized to fuck, this dude is failing with flying colors. Please look outside yourself and your romantic relationship some fraction of the time.

I’ll never quite understand why people leave hate on fanfiction.

As someone who has been writing fanfiction for 11 (almost 12) years, I’ve had my fair share of love and negativity in the comments. Nobody requires you to read it, nobody prevents you from ditching a book you don’t enjoy. There’s nothing that forces you to engage with a piece if you don’t want to. If you don’t like it, don’t read it.

Leaving rude comments on pieces is so silly and incredibly disheartening. Myself and many many others share our work with you for free. We take suggestions, requests, ideas, and share our talent for no cost, no contingencies except for perhaps a follow and engagement on posts.

Quit leaving shitty comments on someone’s hard work that they chose to share with you; I’m not talking about constructive criticism or pointing out typos, those are totally fine if the author welcomes them.

Just please be kind to each other, especially across a digital screen.

“I’m sorry for yelling at you. I just got mad.”

You rolled over to look at him,”It’s fine. You’re going through a lot.”

He stroked your cheek and smiled,”Thank you. Is ice cream still on? We can go now. You look pretty.”

You nodded,”Ok. And thank you.” You smiled.

He patted your hip,”Ok dollie, get your shoes on.” He kissed your forehead and got up.

You hot up and walked to your new shoe rack. You picked up some pink sambas that matched your white tank top with a tiny pink bow and matching shorts. You picked up your white cardigan before you walked out.

Rafe’s red Aston Martin convertible was parked outside.

“Ooh right there!” You pointed at an ice cream truck not too far from the neighborhood.

“Alrighty.” He slowed the car down and Parker by a curb. He got his wallet out and handed you his credit card,”It’s on me.”

You smiled,”Thank you.” You got out of the car and walked to the truck.

The guy who ran the truck had been much too nice for Rafe’s liking. Rafe put his sunglasses on and kept a close eye on him.

You got a strawberry ice cream for Rafe and cookies and cream for yourself.

Rafe gave you a kiss on the cheek before speaking,”Thank you dollie.”

You giggled,”You’re welcome, Rafey.” Again. Falling for his tricks. You needed to stop. But you couldn’t. That smile, that face, that charm. You didn’t know he cared for you and you didn’t think it either.

Rafe hurried inside,cussing,with his now melting ice cream hoping he could salvage it. You walked slowly behind him stifling laughs.

He got to the kitchen and got a bowl. He dumped the cone and the ice cream in it. He looked at his hands,”Fuck! My hands are sticky.” He chuckled and you burst out laughing. He walked towards you,”You think this ‘s funny dollie?” He put a hand on your cheek, gently stroking it,”I hope you like strawberry ice cream masks.”

You squealed and ran to the other side of the counter,”Rafe! Stop!” You laughed.

He picked you up with his hands on your waist, staining your tank top with ice cream,then put you on the counter,”Nuh uh, dollie.”

You put your hands around his neck and pouted playfully,”Why Rafey?”

He closed his eyes and sighed,”What are ya’ tryin’ to do dollie?” He opened his eyes and looked into your eyes deeply.

You giggled, copying his accent,”Nothin’ Rafey!”

He moved closer, his breaths were heavier and slower,”Now ya’ done it..fuck..” he licked his lips, grabbed your face, and kissed you. As passionate as someone could be about kissing.

But you knew you were messing up. You knew you were in trouble. Instead of pulling away from the kiss. You leaned into the kiss, letting his hands wander.

He finally broke it. Both of you were out of breath.

“I’m sorry…Dollie. That was too far.” He walked to the other side of the counter leaving you feeling exposed and cold.

You jumped down and stood in front of him,”It was good Rafe. I mean, I really couldn’t tell, you’re the second man I’ve kissed.” You always focused on your grades rather than boys. But you weren’t really a virgin, you just haven’t gone all the way.

He smiled a little,”Why’s that dollie?”

“I was more focused on school, duh.”

He held your chin and kissed your forehead,”Good girl.” He checked his phone and sighed,”I’ll be back.”

“Barry. I told you, I’m done with this shit. I ain’t buying drugs no more. I’m tryna get clean, man.” Rafe massaged his temples.

Barry chuckled,”I deserve some compensation, Country Club. I did dirty work for ya’” he rubbed his pointer finger, middle finger, and thumb together.

Rafe kissed his teeth,”Sorry man. It ain’t happenin’”

Barry shook his arms out,”Aright’ ima jus think of something else,” he smirked,”That chick you been seeing. Lemme have her.”

Rafe’s blood boiled. He wanted her. You. His girl. Absolutely not. You were too precious. Too sweet.

Rafe scoffed and lunged forward at Barry throwing a punch, aimed at the nose. Drops of blood fell to the floor.

Barry wiped the blood from his nose with the back of his hand, laughing darkly. “Touched a nerve, didn’t I?” he taunted, stepping back as Rafe advanced on him.

Rafe’s fists clenched, his jaw set tight. “You’re dead,” he growled, charging forward again, this time swinging wildly. Barry ducked under the first punch, sidestepped the second, then slammed his elbow into Rafe’s ribs.

Rafe grunted in pain but didn’t back down. Fueled by rage, he grabbed Barry by the collar, slamming him against the wall. “You don’t even say her name, you hear me?”

Barry struggled in Rafe’s grip but grinned defiantly. “What? Scared she might want someone better than you?”

Rafe’s eyes darkened as he drove his fist into Barry’s stomach, knocking the wind out of him. “She’s mine,” Rafe snarled, leaning in close. “You’re nothing.”

Rafe stormed out of the mobile home and mounted his motorcycle.

The day had come to an end. The sun had set and you were worried. You made a nice Italian dinner for the both of you. You thought he’d be home sooner.

You heard the sound of a motorcycle slowing down. You got out of the dining room and ran to the drive way.

There he was. He looked worried, scared, and anxious. Emotions you’d never seen him have. He ran up to you, sobbing.

“Please don’t leave me…you’re all I have.” He embraced you tightly.

You led him inside, rubbing his back and shushing him,”What’s wrong, Rafe?” You helped him onto the couch.

“He’s gonna try to take you from me…I’ll be all alone.” You sat by him, guiding his head into your lap.

“Who Rafe?” Your voice shook. You shouldn’t have been surprised.

He sat up straight and stroked your cheek,”Don’t worry your pretty head about it.” He sniffed and wiped his eyes,”I’ll protect you.”

Things that really ANNOYED THE FUCK OUTTA ME while watching OUTER BANKS SEASON 3:

First things first: Big John AKA big old crazy dude

Let's just say that besides being a shitty father figure he also is selfish as fuck. He only decides to appear in John B's life whenever he needs him to do something treasure related, like ok big John, you love your son so much *cough cough*

In other hand, he also is willing to do ANTHING to find el Dorado, and by ANYTHING I mean killing people, tell me that's not what a psychopath would do.

And all the fricking screen time dedicated to the relationship between John B and his father???? Like we get that they need to bond again but DO WE HAVE TO WATCH ALL THE PROCESS?

Ok. Don't misunderstand me; the idea of introducing a new character who's gonna play the girlfriend or fuckbuddy of Rafe is super super interesting to me BUT

Can you elaborate more their relationship????? Give more CONTEXT????

They could even use her apparition and do a BOMB ASS side story like idk maybe her being more cruel than Rafe or her having some kind of business relationship with Singh and betraying him in the process... WHATEVER

But I'm just saying that that would have been more interesting than the parental issues between Big Dumbass John and John B

Don't even get me started on this shit.

When I saw that Sarah went back to flirting with Topper I was like WHA- WHE- WHO

But I'm not gonna question her that much because they are supposed to be playing teenagers, and that's what teenagers and (also) some adults do:

And Topper... I really don't know how to feel about him.

He's like a shark who's ready to attack if he sniffs some blood (Sarah and John B breaking up or having relationship turbulences), but I can't even blame him that much because I feel like he really loves Sarah besides everything, and he really demonstrated it this season by helping the pogues out.

What Topper was replaying in his head when Sarah promised him that she would stay:

4: Sarah's thoughts when she was left with no family, no money and nowhere to go (she was homeless for like a day and decided to cope with it by drinking beer from an abandoned beer tap, ok)

All the build up story around pogues and kooks is really interesting (even tho it's like another form of saying rich and poor people) but when characters say shit like that it really makes no sense.

You have no home, no family, you argued with your bf and he left, and your friends are not there at the moment and YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT THAT IRRELEVANT SHIT? Damn

Ok, I think I am done with most of the things I wanted to say. There are MORE for sure, but these are the most important ones.

I have to be honest with you, I still haven't watched the last episode bc I really got tired of their bullshit. I love the show and I really love the characters, but this season just wasn't it. I am gonna try and finish it today with hopes that they will end it in a decent way (I don't think so but whatever).

It's not a secret by the end of this post that I'm a spanish native speaker so, yeah, I tried my best to write down correctly the ideas that I had about the show, so PLEASE don't come at me.

I'm also writing a fanfiction about Rafe, but I'm doing it in spanish because I feel like if I wrote it in english I would fuck it up.

Maybe I will try and start uploading Rafe imagines or smth like that, bc they would be shorter and easier to write for me.

PLEASE if you have any thoughts or a comment that you wanna add after reading my rant, just do it, I'm for sure gonna be answering y'all because I love to talk about the show and the characters.
