Din/Luke Pacific Rim AU

This idea has been brewing in my mind for a while now. There have been some discussions in the dinluke server that boosted those ideas even more. I've been wanting to post all the art I've done for a while but I've been nervous and also wanted to get an idea for a fic.

I am absolutely obsessed with Pacific Rim and dinluke, so this seemed like a logical combination. So if anyone wants to listen to my rants about this stuff I could literally ramble for hours.

This is also inspired by a screencap from Pacific Rim, so if anyone knows it I love you. I have so much more art to post so I'll be occasionally posting with extra info about this AU.

Luke has been a pilot since he was a teen, along with Leia. Din used too be a pilot with Paz but after Paz was killed during a Kaiju attack Din suddenly left the Jager program. This scene is Luke showing Din around the Hong Kong Shatterdome and the newly restored 'Razor Crest' the last MKIII Jaeger intact.

Thinking-

about a Pacific Rim AU where Simon and Johnny are in love and together, but not drift compatible. They’re both right side pilots, stronger and more dominant over their left side counterparts, and in a Jaeger, they just don’t work.

It’s all well and good, until Simon’s co-pilot of almost five years is killed. All that work, all that time… wasted.

Simon could kill him himself, if some poor sod didn’t already do the job.

Their captain starts the process of finding a replacement, cranking through cadets in an attempt to find a very specific person, a very specific brain capable of completing a neural bridge with Simon, until they finally stumble upon you.

Johnny is thrilled. He reads your file, pours over your record, drinks up every detail available, all before ever laying eyes on you. He finds your social media, your hometown paper, education record, service record, the works. You’re a shiny, smart, capable yang to Simon’s yin. You’ll be perfect.

A perfect match, he thinks. Thank fucking Christ.

But…

Simon instantly dislikes you. You’re too bright, sunshine abrasive in the dark of his life. He’s dismissive and stand offish, irritated by the fact command did not allow him and Johnny to even try drifting again, instead choosing to place him with a complete stranger shipped to his doorstep from halfway around the world. He doesn’t want you crawling around in his brain. He doesn’t want his memories to become yours, and vice versa. He doesn’t want you in his- their life. He wants you to fuck off.

It beats you down. You weren’t sure what to expect, but it wasn’t this. A co-pilot who can’t even look at you? Who dismisses you at every turn? It’s awful. You had heard stories about the Ghost, sure… but didn’t expect him to be so resistant to a new partner.

It’s so awful, you get pissed drunk one night. End up in a dark dive bar, licking your wounds and moaning to yourself about how all your training, all your work, is going to be for nothing. You’re going to fail. You’ll never pilot a Jaeger, because your co-pilot is too resistant, too controlling, won’t even try. It sucks.

So, okay. You have a little pity party. You try to drown your sorrows, and the guy next to you is very, very sympathetic. He listens to you cry about it, empathizes with your struggle and tries to commiserate with you.

It helps, of course, that he’s gorgeous. Blue eyes, golden like a god, long strands of mohawk perfectly framing his sheer bone structure.

“Dinnae worry, hen. ‘M sure he’ll come around. He’s just got to get to know ye s’more.” He coos, pressing a blazing hot thigh against yours with a wink. You lean a little bit into him, let him trace his fingertips down your spine, across your neck.

You’re so distracted, you don’t know the mass of a man wearing a mask, sitting in the shadows. Watching.

Y/n is also a janitor in this au, and is generally tasked with cleaning the exterior of the mechs.

MNT-3, or 'Monty,' has a bully for a pilot, and the mech really doesn't like him.

I'm thinking Monty ends up rejecting the pilot and the company spends days trying to hire a new pilot, all of whom are ejected from Monty's cockpit, until eventually, he puts in a request that has management reeling.

The only pilot MNT-3 wants as his partner is none other than the nobody cleaner who has no piloting experience whatsoever.

anyways the storyline is tomiko is basically a pageant kid pilot whose manager is her mom. she’s been trained to carry nothing into the drift and is advertised as an “all purpose pilot”, even with kaiju brains

ok ok ok ok but do you see the vision. do you feel it in your bones??

two pilots who drifted incredibly well in the beginning of the program piloted the Eclipse. Because the government was pushing to popularize the jaegers, it was heavily themed and the pilots were nicknamed Solas and Lunar or Sun and Moon for short.

Eclipse was originally part of the "Glamrock" line of jaegers that were made to appeal to the public and hopefully bring some more money to the struggling program. This, obviously, failed when a rebel group (started by the notorious mafia boss William Afton (ex jaeger pilot, lost his other half Henry and supposedly lost the jaeger named Springsuit in the ocean while fighting a black and white striped kaiju nicknamed the Puppet) started hacking the program in what appeared to be a fit of rage over his lost jaeger and co-pilot.

He hacked the Glamrocks one by one, in subtle ways at first that barely affected their performance in battle, at least at first. It was just subtle enough to go unnoticed until it was too late.

Bonnie was the first to go, falling victim to the virus and Afton's control. Foxy fell shortly after, but they were able to recover the body and refurbish it into a new jaeger named Roxy.

When the Eclipse started to show signs of wear from the virus, there was talk of scrapping them. But sun and moon insisted they were fit to pilot and so the eclipse embarked on a fetal final mission. It fell to a kaiju that was mostly blue with two horizontal white stripes. Eclipse was thought to be lost to the bottom of the ocean. That was, until a kaiju with a red top-half and a ring of white around its neck found it. The fight stirred up water and brought the Eclipse close enough to the surface to get a radar reading on it. Turns out, the Eclipse was wandering the bottom of the ocean this entire time, its pilots just barely surviving in stasis inside. Pentecost took them in (in the new and questionably legal jeager program) and refurbished the Eclipse with a far less flashy look. it was built for speed, attacking quickly and with precision.

Ohhh imagine Pacific rim au with Constructicons being pilots of the giant jaeger called Devastator.

Imagine. They lose their captain in a battle with a particularly fierce kaiju and Devastator has been out ever since, as the remaining five pilots are not ready to accept anyone to replace Scrapper.

Given their personalities, their leaders keep tossing them candidates as similar to them as possible, hoping it will work. But all they manage to accomplish is to remind the team that Scrapper is no longer with them.

two Jaeger Team originally based in New Zealand stationed in Wellington from 2017 - 2025 | in 2025 re-stationed to Hongkong

2017 - 2020 Blaster 99 Mark 1 (Wrecker & Crosshair) 2017 - 2025 Havoc Marauder Mark 3 (Hunter & Tech until 2020 | Wrecker & Crosshair since 2020) 2020 - 2025 Omega-1 Mark 5 (Hunter & Tech)

graduating top of their class the Bad Batch was a highly valued Pilot Squad due to their sturdyness, advanced tactical and combat skills as well as their Drift compatibility among themselves

up until 2020 they successfully protected New Zealands coastlines as well as aided the australian Team occasionally.

in 2020 a category III Kaju launched an attack on Oaro calling the Team into action

due to a technical malfunction the weapons system of the Blaster 99 went offline resulting in the destruction of the Jaeger and near death of it's pilots which was prevented due to the quick acting of the Havoc Marauder

At the end of the same year and the recovery of the second pilot team a new Jaeger was assigned to them - Omega-1

Wrecker and Crosshair are two of teh very few Pilots who survied losing a Jaeger.

While technically compatible with each other brother, the current Pilot teams profed to be the most effective

I'm not actually going to write the Scum Villain Pacific Rim AU (no really, @fieldofclover stop smirking) but if I did, I think the driving engine of the story would be the clash between the stallion genre with its One Man Over All and the "we can only win together" premise of intimacy and co-reliance which underpins Pacific Rim

So in the Original Text in this story (because there always must be an Original Text, in SV fics) Luo Binghe is that ultimate Pacific Rim mary sue: the solo pilot. He, unlike all the other Jaeger pilots, can pilot a Jaeger by himself. He can defeat the kaiju by himself. His story is mostly him going around saving the day singlehandedly when the other pilot pairs fail, because he is the best and the specialest and the Most Powerful Jaeger Pilot in the whole story who doesn't need no co-pilot.

(I'm thinking that Shen Qingqiu is a kaiju researcher at Cang Qiong Shatterdome after having washed out of the Jaeger program, who is the first one to realize that Luo Binghe's abilities come from him being half-kaiju. Kaiju are demons, somehow, it's not important. Shen Qingqiu exposes Luo Binghe before the rest of the Shatterdome, which results in Luo Binghe being expelled and driven out and forced to fend for himself in the lawless world before he Comes Back Meaner, as he does.

Shen Yuan, the biggest Luo Binghe fan, finds himself migrated into the role of the Kaiju Researcher except that instead of exposing Luo Binghe's secret, he covers for him and provides him with kaiju-heritage-specific support and medical care until the secret comes out another way.)

At any rate, the ultimate climax of the story does of course come when Luo Binghe and Shen Qingqiu Drift together for the first time; because maybe you can fight the monsters alone, but it's even better when you don't have to.
