Baoxiang coughed, his face reddening, but he maintained his composure. "Oh, you think–? No, brother. This isn't my plot against you." Esen, wrenching himself around in confusion, saw movement within the doors of the great hall. A figure descended the steps, armor covered in blood, his sword in his hand. "No," said Ouyang. "It's mine."

h-huah??? strife quota for the day?? huh? that has to be a metaphor right??? i mean what did we get in the strife: Rose attacking mom with needles, “empty suicide threat“, “ironic indulgence: a beautiful pony“, and mom drinking (”ironic negligence”). So uh. A strife is just some kind of confrontation with a guardian?? Not sure how to interpret rose attacking with needles. I think i need to look at John’s strife with his dad again

ROXY: omg not u too with the flower
ROXY: i heard this story like five times

ROXY: i rly dont think thats the point of the story tbh
DAVE: then what do you think it means
ROXY: broson im sayin this with the utmost respect for u
ROXY: its not that deep
ROXY: its just a story
DAVE: then what about this
DAVE: do you think dirks right
DAVE: are we just a story that needs a villain

DAVE: or are we just people doing things that feel right at the time
ROXY: ya maybe this is just our arc
DAVE: i dont think life is just a series of arcs
ROXY: well to be fair

All you have to do is ask

In retrospect, Eddie’s gonna blame the weed.
They’re lying on the trailer roof, Steve and him, finishing their second blunt. Or third? It’s hard to tell with the thrum in his veins, with Steve’s head tucked against his shoulder. Steve’s eyes outshining the stars.
“Bathroom,” Steve murmurs, and then he’s up and climbing through Eddie’s window with a grace belying his buzzed state. “Be right back.”
Eddie finishes the blunt, watching the smoke curl up into the night while he mourns the loss of his warmth. Tells his stupid feelings to fuck off for the thousandth time. Steve will never be into him like that, so-
“Erm … Eddie?”
Steve’s voice floats up to him, shaky and confused. Eddie frowns.
Then he remembers.
“Fuuuuuuck,” he squawks, clambering up on shaky limbs and propelling himself through the window. Because he left his sketchbook open on his bed and oh God, please, don’t let him have the sketchbook.
Steve has the sketchbook. He's staring at the open page with a blank expression, the page that Eddie filled last night in another weed-fuelled frenzy.
“Dude,” he mutters. “Are those pin-ups?”
For a moment, Eddie's tempted to claim that it isn't what it looks like, but seriously?
The pictures may be stylized and cartoonish, but there’s no denying who the guy in the revealing outfits and provocative poses is. The voluminous swoop of hair. The scars poking out from the low-riding gym shorts in one sketch. The sailor outfit and the ice cream scoop balanced loosely in one hand in another.
Steve glances up at him, hand hovering over the largest picture - the one of little pin-up Steve propped up on his nail bat, the skirt of his cheerleading uniform riding up his muscled thigh. Eddie’s soul departs his body.
“Listen, I'm sorry,” he says. Steve slaps the book shut and he flinches.
“Yeah, you damn well should be.” Eddie screws his lids shut, bracing himself for a punch- ... but the fingers that touch his jaw are featherlight. “You got the moles on my thigh all wrong.”
Eddie’s eyes fly open.
Steve winks at him. His smile is bright like the stars, his blush hot like the sun as he slowly leans in.
“Y’know, if you wanted me to pose for you … all you have to do is ask.”

putting a pin in a daydream

If there's one thing Eddie has learned about Robin-and-Steve/Steve-and-Robin, it's that their conversations are like a bottomless pit. Trying to find the source, or what's holding the structure together or how this led to that, it's like tying a rope around your waist and being lowered into the abyss. There's just no end or beginning in sight.
"I could be a pin-up girl!"
Eddie chokes as he walks past, coughing out his water with a weak thump to his chest. Steve pats his back, doesn't even glance his way, and Eddie tries to ignore the sparks lighting up in his -
"Oh yeah?" Robin says, rolling her eyes. "And what would I be, your stage set? The flower vase in the background? Tree number four?"
Steve's nose wrinkles so cutely at the remark and Eddie doesn't bother pretending he's not listening anymore. Especially when Steve's eyes go wide and he snaps his finger, his own little 'aha' moment. "We could both be pin-ups!"
The very thought of Steve in a magazine, ready to be ripped out, oh, he could be wearing Eddie's vest -
"Ew, what?"
"Think about it," Steve says triumphantly and Eddie absolutely is. "Me for the guy-likers, you for the girl-likers!"
Robin actually considers it. "What about the no-one-likers?"
Steve scrunches his brow, then shrugs. "A cooking page? Baking? Crochet? I don't know, there's something for everyone."
"Could have," Eddie says hoarsely, clearing out his throat when two pairs of eyes snap to him. "Could have lots of educational shit on there."
"See, Eddie gets it," Steve says, his hand still on Eddie's back, rubbing up and down soothingly, warmly, sweetly -
"Whatever," Robin scoffs. "I bet I'd be put up on more walls than you."
"I'd take that bet," Steve grins and Eddie's mind is flooded with the image of that grin plastered all over his bedroom, one as a firefighter, another as a knight, maybe even one as a rockstar's groupie, laying down in his bed and -
"Oh yeah," says Steve, looking over at Eddie with a bemused smile. "Why'd you stop by anyways, Eds?"
"Just, uh..." he swallows. "Don't remember, actually."
"Ah, hate it when that happens." Steve pats his back sympathetically and takes his hand away, Eddie's skin crying out for the warmth again.
"Yeah," Eddie exhales, mentally slapping himself. "My brain, man."

I made a post a while ago from an ask, requesting essays about butch and femme, the femme part was a reblog, I think it deserves its own post on Femme Appreciation Day!
So, a lot of books I enjoy are collections of essays, therefore, here are some recommendations for books, and some of my favourite (femme) essays from them, that you can read and they might help you understand femme better.
from the books I recommend probably the most:
- ABOUT FEMME:
The Persistent Desire: A Femme-Butch Reader - edited by Joan Nestle:
Flamboyance and fortitude: An introduction - pages 13-20
Of Althea and Flaxie - pages 54-55
Letter to a fifties femme from a stone butch - pages 102-108 (trigger warning for S.A., police brutality, general violence and suicide mention)
The Femme Question - pages 138 - 146
The Butch-femme Question - pages 208-219
What we're rollin' around in bed with: Sexual silences in feminism - A conversation toward ending them - pages 243-253
The Femme Tapes - pages 254-267
Roles? I don't know anyone who's "playing": A letter to my femme sisters - pages 268-269
Old Femme - page 331
Femme-inism - posts 362-366
Femme-dyke - pages 378-383
Reclaiming femme... again - pages 388-389
I Love Butches - pages 420-422
Persistence: All Ways Butch and Femme - edited by Ivan Coyote and Zena Sharman:
Never Be Hungry Again - pages 53-55
Looking Straight At You - pages 70-75
Between My Fingers - pages 105-106 [femme and disability]
FEMME SHARK MANIFESTO - pages 244-248
Hats Off - pages 264-266
*Making intelligible the controversies over femme identities: A functionalist approach to conceptualizing the subversive meanings of femme genders - Heidi M. Levitt & Kathleen M. Collins
Honourable mentions**:
S/HE - Minnie Bruce Pratt
My Lesbian Husband: Landscapes of a Marriage - Barrie Jean Borich
*this one is an article
**I mention these because though they're not explicit "THIS IS WHAT'S FEMME" they're rich in femme representation and femme perspective, so keep that in mind as you read, if you read them.

Analysis on Dylan's Transcribed Journal Entries
Disclaimer: This analysis/psychoanalysis is limited only to analysis as a means to reflect and understand the people involved. It is strictly informative. Just like all of my posts, I am detached from the media I write about and solely focus on the people to understand their psychology, for others to gain insight. There is no room for me to romanticize or glorify anything I write because I am only here to explain. I understand and research, but I do not condone. Thank you.
"Fact: People are so unaware.... well, Ignorance is bliss I guess.... that would explain my depression." - Dylan
Tumblr media
On pages 26. 385, we are given a glimpse of Dylan's personality in just one sentence. This hypersensitivity, which he links to his heightened "awareness," is entwined with suffering, or in his terms, depression. He perceives his relentless thought cycle as a curse, one that he cannot control. He mourns this enlightenment because it isolates him, making him feel different and detached from others. Dylan believes his uniqueness renders him unacceptable, worsening his sense of alienation and driving him to view himself more as a concept than a human being.
On p. 26. 388, he entails that he commits "moral" acts to "cleanse" himself or rid of any filth present in his life, making it seem that this is one of the only ways to allow his life to head to the right direction because he has no clear sense of path and possibly believes that all roots of destruction and chaos present in his life are born out of the morally unjust. He considers his misfortune to be an eternal suffering that transcends all realities; for he believes miserableness is bound to him.
Perhaps one of the reasons why he tries to rid himself of immorality is because of his unconscious belief that it might be the root of his problem. Cleansing himself is a temporary form of escapism aimed at removing permanent wrongs. It does not last, of course, because as humans, we make mistakes. However, his approach to this is considering his wrongs to be eternal and innate, which is not true and further drives him into miserableness.
Dylan also dwells on the past and is prone to transference. In psychoanalysis, transference occurs when past experiences influence current ideologies, projecting unresolved problems and traumas onto present events. This is evident in Dylan's detachment from others, rooted in past isolation and alienation. He believes no one can accept or love him due to his unresolved abandonment issues.
Expanding on abandonment, as noted on p. 26. 394, Dylan feels deserted because his "only" best friend spends more time with his partner, leaving Dylan feeling unwanted and rendering his efforts in their friendship unreciprocated. This loneliness leaves him more upset than resentful, holding onto hope that his friend will come back. This ties into his deep yearning for love. He repeatedly expresses his desire to be loved and accepted by his peers, his crush, and anyone. Even when infatuated, he idealizes love, feeling it deeply because he actively seeks it and feels deprived of it. Dylan is infatuated with the concept of love itself, craving it so intensely to the point he practically craves it so actively and it becomes a central focus of his existence.
Yearning: to be seen, to be loved, to be accepted, to be human.

Abnormal Behaviours
written for @steddiemicrofic march prompt ‘pin’ wc: 388 | rated: T | cw: none | read on ao3
📌📌📌
"What's a three letter word for badge?"
They're sat at the kitchen table, drinking coffee in the late morning light, and enjoying a rare day off together when Steve interrupts the Dio tape Eddie has playing over on the counter. It takes Eddie a moment to remember how to form words before he can offer a response to the crossword clue Steve has just thrown at him.
"Uhh pin?"
"Yeah that works, so what about 'not you'?"
"Me?"
"Sure, yep," Steve scratches his nose as he scans the newspaper, "Okay how about 'opposed to' for seven letters?"
"Against?"
"And, um, 1979 album by Pink Floyd?"
"The Wall? Hey, wait a second," Eddie grabs the puzzle pages from Steve's hands and stares at the blank sheet before looking up with a laugh, "You little shit!"
"C'mon Ed's," Steve grins unrepentant, "When have I ever willingly done a crossword? And to answer your question, yes. Yes, I will pin you against the wall."
"Did you seriously make fake crossword clues to get me to ask you that?"
"Robin helped."
"Robin help- well of course she did, neither of you can function without the other."
"Yeah, we're like guinea pigs."
"Stevie, baby," Eddie pinches his nose before taking a deep breath, "I'm not even going to dignify that with a response."
"What? It's true! They get lonely without a friend," Steve sits up straight from where he's been slouching against the kitchen table, "And one of the books we read said that they can 'develop abnormal behaviours' if left alone and that's us!"
"Okay, two things. One, why have you read multiple books about guinea pigs? And two, why have you read multiple books about guinea pigs?"
"Oh, so it's fine for you to read multiple books on random subjects," Steve pouts, "But when I do it, it's weird?"
"It is when the subject matter is guinea pigs!"
"Me and Robin were thinking about getting one," Steve shrugs, "So, we were being responsible pet owners and doing some research first, and now we know that we have to get two!"
"Look, not that I don't love the idea or anything, but can we please get back to you pinning me against the wall?"
"Nope. In fact, I think we should go pick Robin up and go to the pet store instead."

Lauren was running an hour later than usual, they had quite an exhausting game yesterday, so on her day off, she usually slept in until half eight ad was running in the park by nine.
Today it was ten am, and as Lauren jogged through, music pushing her through, she paused in shock. The most beautiful girl she had ever seen was lying on a picnic blanket, basking in the warm summer sun.
Rings littered her thin fingers, as well as several necklaces which hung from her neck and over the notebook she was writing in. Jeans and a sweet flowery top covered her, the mom jeans hanging on her body.
She had wired headphones in, which Lauren found odd, but the girl didn't seem to notice her as she stared, too focused on writing whatever she was writing.
Lauren briefly though about going over, but then she realised she was messy haired, red faced, and sweaty and thought better of it. So instead, she jogged on.
But suddenly Lauren found herself changing her routine, and every day off she had, which changed, she went to the park at 10am, and every time, other than Thursdays and Tuesdays, the girl was there, buried in pages.

After Lauren's complete fail, the next day off they had, Chloe, Alex and Jill came with her to the park, the four in relaxed outfits and hoping to sit and relax together, as well as help Lauren with this painful crush.
As they got there, the mysterious girl was already there, writing out pages and pages once again, and Jill let out a light whistle, nodding at Lauren in agreement.
The girl was hot. Chloe and Alex both sat down near her, dragging the other two with them, y/n looked up and she waved nicely at Lauren, who waved back with a smile.
Chloe sighed in relief that Lauren had at least reacted normal to that, and as y/n went back to studying the four friends started a conversation as they relaxed in the sun.
Eventually the group got up to play some football, y/n having not moved since the turned up, Chloe had hit the ball slightly hard and Lauren blanched as she ran.
The quick blonde, only manged just to get to y/n, pulling the girl who had stood up to stretch out of the way of the incoming ball the football instead hitting one of her notebooks and sending loose pages everywhere.
"Oh my god." y/n gasps.
"Sorry!" Chloe calls. "I am so sorry!" She adds again, but y/n waves a hand kindly.
"Luckily I have my guardian angel!" y/n calls, smiling at Lauren gratefully, who blushes at the sweet nickname. "Thank you." y/n adds as she bends down to pick at her papers.
Lauren kicks the ball across to Chloe who restarts their game of up, with the other two, but Lauren stays by y/n leaning down to help pick up her scattered papers.
"Oh you don't have to." y/n starts but Lauren smiles and shakes her head.
"I want to." Lauren promises as she hands the girl her papers. "Do you maybe want to get coffee sometime?" Lauren suddenly asks, as if she had been forced to say it.
Truth is, if she hadn't of said it then, she never would have. y/n looked up at her and furrowed her brows slightly, as if trying to figure something out.
"Like a date?" She asks and Lauren nods.
"Unless you don't want to." Lauren adds.
"No I want to, I was just trying to figure out why Lauren Hemp is asking me out." y/n admits and Lauren winces.
"You know who I am?" She asks and y/n shrugs.
"My best friend is a city fan, though I am more partial to Arsenal I must admit." y/n teases and Lauren pretends as she's been shot dragging and heart-breakingly beautiful laugh from the student.
"How could you?" Lauren asks jokingly and y/n laughs again.
"Quite easily, I suppose I will have to make it up to you." y/n hums. "How about a date tomorrow, after coffee today?" She asks and Lauren grins.
"Uh, yeah, yeah that would be great." Lauren smiles, a bright gleam in her eyes.
"Cool, well can I get your number then?" y/n asks and Lauren jerks forward, quickly tapping her number in and sending a message to herself.
"Do you want to go get coffee now?" Lauren asks, y/n sighing in relief and nodding.
"Please, I look at anything else about civil justice proceedings, my brain is going to self-destruct." y/n says and Lauren chuckles and looks up to tell her friends.
However, she finds no one, the three having dispersed with shared grins as Lauren and y/n started talking, finding no reason to interrupt they left.
y/n packed away her notes, throwing her highlighters into her pencil case and standing up, she smoothed out her summer dress, the article stopping just below her knees.
"You're so pretty." Lauren said without thinking, and even though she had just said it aloud, it sounded so calm and meant.
"Charmer." y/n blushed, smiling softly as she held out her hand. "Come on." She smiles and Lauren takes her hand.

Liberal Dissociative Amnesia
The Cass Review is the most discussed political topic among trans people in the UK right now. The 388 page report by Dr Hillary Cass examines the gender services available to young people in the UK and concludes that young people are being let down, gender services need to be taken out of reach for trans people under 25 and a new system which urges avoiding transition at every turn needs to be created which will refer people at age 25.
I just watched Michael Walker on Novara Media say "I think there are some very difficult questions here that I really don't know the answer to", and I find myself baffled by statements like this. I did actually understand in watching what specific questions he thought were "difficult", and I think someone could probably answer them pretty effectively to a standard he was happy with if he had a well informed trans person who he trusted in his life. The problem is, the whole segment was presented with as much equivocation and both-sidesing as possible, this constant air of "what if"
I feel like I'm observing a dissociative amnesia that people like this run into when discussing something that people they can easily see are bigots have declared to be scientific and complicated and requiring serious scrutiny. The Novara team understand the broad wave of anti-trans attacks happening across much of the world, particularly America and Britain, right now, even if they won't necessarily call it genocide - so why does this story exist completely devoid of context? Why is it suddenly time to ask "difficult questions"?
Walker wonders out loud about people on a spectrum where at one end people would have always been cis under all circumstances and on the other they would have always been trans, and in the middle of course are people who might transition if it's easier and there's less stigma. His point as far as I can tell is that somewhere in there it could get TOO easy to transition and then people will do it and regret it. Do I need to bother saying this is why we have informed consent?
It's like the people trying to wipe us out are playing Simon Says with the most progressive of our liberal media. The progressives can see bigotry for what it is most of the time and then somehow suddenly it becomes ✨special science bigotry ✨ and, perhaps because there's an institutional weight behind it, perhaps because it claims to be a serious study, or perhaps just because of the aesthetics of intellectualism the progressive journalists mysteriously forget about the whole wider context of transphobia around the world and have to apply rigorous journalistic standards to it.
"There's social contagion!" "No that's bigotry"
"They're just undiagnosed autistic people!" "No they're trans AND autistic"
"They're coming after the kids!" "No, that's age old queerphobia"
"✨Simon Says ✨ there's social contagion!" "oh well this warrants very careful discussion, I need to think very hard about this before taking a side here, it's a toxic culture war debate and we must remain ✨rational✨ when discussing issues like this..."

I'm not sure if this is breaking your boundaries or not so I'm very sorry if we are, but do you have any advice for questioning RAMCOA systems? We have no memory of our childhood and around 45 known members. We believe *something* happened, but have no idea where to start digging or if there's anything to dig up in the first place. Is it just noting things down when they happen?
The approaches to RAMCOA questions depend on how safe you(&) are in the present, like any trauma work. And, like any trauma work, communication and cooperation are the ideal. Brute forcing memories and harassing systemmates is a last resort, the kind of instability that can help an already unstable system; it might be necessary for current contact or dangerous program activation, but then you(&) get to clean up the mess (flashbacks, more programs, more distrust and aggression in the system).
Fortunately, people have written about this! We like Lacter’s site overall, lots of useful articles (endritualabuse.org), both her and Rainfield focus on RA. Oksana also wrote about RA, with a support group over talk therapy style. Miller’s books on programming are very detailed despite going ham on ‘parts’ language, but depends on your(&) preferred model of dissociation and bullshit tolerance. The last two are books, be prepared.
Take breaks. It ain’t gonna help if you(&)’re so overwhelmed you(&) kick right back into survival mode, and emotional processing takes time. That, or you(&)’re gonna need to read it three times more than you(&) would’ve and be very stressed the whole time.

Oh my goodness gracious me, more todoroki drama! What are your thoughts on this chapter from your translations?
I'll forever be heartbroken at the panel of the happy family minus shoto.
I don't have a ton to say. We got like one flashback and 10 seconds of story. But I do think a lot of people are sleeping on what's happening in this chapter. It's a chapter about the Todoroki family, particularly those who are NOT Enji, Shouto, or Touya (well okay, maybe a bit about Touya, too). No, I don't mean that Enji or Shouto are being excluded as some sort of message. I mean that the other characters also need their moments to further their own arcs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All the characters who expressed their regrets in the above scene are now showing up in chapter 388 to confront their demons (although I do think there is a translation or update issue regarding Rei's panel in this version of the page.) Note that Shouto had no regrets to express regarding Touya and was instead called "his family's hero" because of his desire to rescue all of them. Shouto has no place in this chapter specifically because it's about the family's regrets towards Touya.
So their actions in this chapter are meant to reflect each of their regrets.
Enji, who harmed his family, is now trying to protect them all and take all the damage unto himself.
Rei, who felt powerless in her situation and was repulsed by Enji and her children, takes responsibility and apologizes while actively pushing her way onto the battlefield to use her power to cool down Enji and Touya.
Fuyumi, who kept up appearances that things were fine even when she knew the family was falling apart, expresses her repressed thoughts and her desire for the family to actually be okay by begging for no one to leave (it's hard to capture the nuance of what she's saying literally in Japanese, something like "Don't not be here, don't go away.")
And Natsu, who regrets brushing off and not confronting Enji or Touya before it was too late, directly tells Touya to stop bothering everyone. (Now, the nuance here is probably dicier to explain, but essentially there is an implied note of selfishness being attached to Touya's actions, even if Touya's feelings are justified. This is a collectivist society sort of thing, but think back to when Katsuki mouths off to Fuyumi and Shouto for talking about sensitive subjects where those uninvolved can hear. Basically, Natsu is saying Touya should find a way to deal with his problems himself rather than making them problems for everyone else--and let's be real, Touya's currently threatening other people's lives because of his personal problems.)
The paradox is that Rei, Fuyumi, and Natsu are all expressing their honne, their true feelings. In Japan, to the rest of the world you are to present your tatemae, which is your polite mask or the character you are assigned to play in any situation (Fuyumi would have her teacher persona with her students, for instance). People are only supposed to express their honne to those very close to them, with the most common example being: their family. The Todoroki family has been forced to hide their true feelings over the years even from the rest of their family, and now they are finally getting to express everything they bottled up. So while it may feel like some of the things they say are cruel or selfish, this is actually meant to be a sign of love. They are in a situation where they feel comfortable enough with their family and even compelled by the dire circumstances to reveal their honne. Honne are SUPPOSED to be selfish and rude. To express one's honne is to express how close one is with the person who hears them. You can even see Dabi as Touya's tatemae, and the Touya we see in the panel at the end is his honne finally coming out.
And that's the crux of how I view this now infamous final panel. It's a reflection of the family coming together by expressing their regrets. It's a symbol of the people they could have been if only they could have dealt with these things in the first place. They are healing in this moment. They are healing as a family and as themselves. And now Shouto, who has already gone through that same process in the Sports Festival, is going to come in and be his family's hero once again.
