Tumblr media
1. Flexibility and Freedom
First up, let's talk logistics. Instead of dealing with public transport or taxis everywhere, having your own set of rental wheels gives you flexibility and freedom. No being at the mercy of bus schedules or haggling with taxi drivers! There are plenty of bike rental providers across Goa, but if you don’t want to spend so much time finding one that offers everything from scooters to Royal Enfields, you can go with Rentnhop.
2. Convenience options
Rates can be as low as ₹200-300 per day for a simple scooter rental. With your trusty bike, you can explore those hidden beaches and seaside villages on your own schedule. No expensive taxi rides are required, just fill up the tank and feel the fresh coastal breeze on your face.
3. Budget Friendly
Beyond convenience, biking is often the most budgeted way to reach many attractions. For example, a taxi from Anjuna to Dudhsagar Waterfalls could cost ₹2000-3000 each way. But by getting a bike rental in Goa, you can drive yourself and save significantly. The same goes for beaches, restaurants, markets, and more that are spread out. Why pay high cab fares when you can toot around on your own motorbike?
4. Good saving option
Renting also saves on parking costs, which can really add up. Instead of paying daily parking fees for a car rental, you can just park your budget bike for free. More change in your pocket! Plus there are never any traffic or parking challenges when buzzing around on two wheels.
Don't forget the savings on food expenses too.
5. Easy decision option
Having your own wheels means you can stop at local street food carts, markets, and authentic restaurants that are often only accessible by bike or foot. No need to rely on your resort's overpriced restaurants when you can sample delicious chai, bhaji-pau, vada pav, and seafood curries from roadside vendors.
I also recommend using your bike to get to farther beaches and towns for discounted prices on accommodation and food. Places like Patnem and Colomb have lower rates than the main tourist hubs. By staying flexible with a bike rental in Goa, you open up more money-saving opportunities.
Finally, most bike rental companies don't charge any type of insurance, mileage, or locker fees. There are just the basic rental rates plus petrol during your trip. That's a huge savings compared to car rental insurance and fees. And cheaper rental rates mean you can opt for a bigger bike to better explore rugged terrain.
Conclusion
So if you're looking to save some dough in Goa without sacrificing adventure, a bike on rent in Goa is a smart move. You'll slash transportation, parking, accommodation, and food costs while still journeying off the beaten path. Do you have any other bike on rent in Goa tips or savings hacks? Share in the comments! How to Live the College Life
Most, if not all high school students, anticipate living the college life. At first, I thought it was about independence that I finally get to decide things on my own, but as I go through the span of time, I realized some thoughts that people have to keep in mind as they step foot on the journey of their college life:
1. Enroll to your dream program
One of the main foundations of your college life is the program that you’re enrolled in. Make sure that it is the program that fits your passion and happiness, not just something that you were forced to take. Are you willing to spend 4 years of your life surviving the program that you don’t like in the first place? It would be hard to persevere, and the only tendency is that you will have the thoughts to shift your program and restart your environment all over again. So as early as enrolling for your freshman year, choose the path that your heart desires.
2. Choose your circle
In college, not everyone is your friend. Every student came from different parts of the country –with diverse beliefs, cultures, routines, and mindsets. While it is true that you should bear with everyone, keep in mind that you have to be cautious on whom you trust. Unless you found a home in a circle, never settle to a group that does not fit your morals and standards. Find a circle that lifts everyone up and supports you in every step of the way –not a random group just “to belong”. This is the phase when you will realize that it is all about the quality of friendship rather than its quantity. Nonetheless, it’s alright to be all by yourself.
3. Decide for yourself
There are cases wherein you will be the one to chose your schedule –the reason why time is certainly in the palm of your hands. Make the most out of your idle time for you have the liberty to do whatever you want. Be independent of your decisions that you do not have to rely on other’s vacancy in order to fill yours. Remember that in every choice you make, you and only you will suffer its consequence: If you choose to have a night out rather than to study for an exam, your choice. If you choose to sleep rather than to accomplish your requirement due tomorrow, again, your choice. Do not be swayed by peer pressure because the choice is yours. Be matured enough to take responsibility of yourself.
4. Learn to adjust
In college, not everyone and everything will adjust for your convenience. Learn to adjust and adapt in order to scrutinize what works despite the situation. If your home is far from school, adjust your after class activities so that you’ll still have time to rest and do your works at home. If your daily allowance needs to be compromised with a sudden school fund collection, adjust the amount of money that you spend on food and cravings. If you’re not used to studying for hours, learn to adapt the habit to survive your course. College will not adjust for you, so adjust for college.
5. Utilize resources
Your resources are your best friends. Use your books, modules, and lectures to study for a certain subject. If you have taken notes of the previous discussion, use them. Although it works sometimes, do not rely on your stock knowledge. As long as you have your resources at hand, utilize them. Go to the library and find the materials you need. Research. Review your syllabus all the time to keep track of your study plan.
6. Know who, where, and how
You are not a toddler anymore that everything and everyone spoon-feeds you. Know who to contact in case that you need something or to whom will you confer about your program matters. You should know where to go in circumstances that you need to settle something or where the most convenient terminal to go home is. One tip is to use your phone to save contacts, take down notes, search, and download helpful apps. You should know everything, every connection, that will be of help to make things more bearable, so that along the way, you’ll get the hang of the college system.
7. Join organizations
If your time permits, join clubs and organizations that best suit your interest. Take part and be active! Aside that it will serve as a training ground for your future career, it lets you meet new people that have the same interests as you do. You will learn a lot from your mentors and create that sense of awareness around you that will widen your perspective and make you even more mature. You will also instill the value of leadership by being initiative and a problem solver in the group. After all, college life isn’t just about your academic endeavors. While it shapes your career, extra curricular activities shape your personality.
8. Do requirements strategically
It’s not just all about working right, but also working smart. Design your own game plan on how to accomplish tasks and fit them in a certain period of time. While most students hustle following exactly what is expected, go beyond the box and expand your resources to work on the task more strategically. This idea does not suggest to do illegal strategies, but to do a more practical tactic.
9. Aim for a clean record
Like any other universities, there are policies that you have to abide. While college life is not simple, do not do things that will stain your record whether it is on tardiness, absences, or minor infractions. You can still have fun without breaking the rules. It is not likely that you will be perfect for 4 years, but you can always do what is right.
10. Don’t forget to have fun
It is true that college may be more complicated than your high school life because there are a lot of expectations waving around your path, but do not forget to have fun while doing these things. There is fun in adjusting, there is fun in studying, there is fun in complying, and there is fun in being independent. It’s just a matter of how you put boundaries on having fun without jeopardizing your goal in life.
There are a lot of take aways from every college student, and I must say that these are not everything that you have to keep in mind. You can also build your own reminders as you go along the way. Feed your mindset that this journey is a training ground and a step closer into setting foot on your dreams –there is no turning back. Remember that it is better to suffer for 4 years, then enjoy the rest of your life; rather than enjoy for 4 years, and suffer for the rest of your life.
Good luck on your college journey!
Xoxo, Pau. ♥️

Why Rising U.S. Consumer Prices Could Mislead: Live Updates Here’s what you need to know: The latest Consumer Price Index is expected to show a jump in inflation, but central bankers say the price pressures are likely to be temporary.Credit…Andrew Spear for The New York Times Consumer prices are expected to jump sharply in April data that will be released on Wednesday, a move resulting mainly from a technical quirk — but one that investors will be watching carefully as they try to determine if inflation could alter Federal Reserve policy. The Consumer Price Index probably climbed by 3.6 percent in the year through April, economists surveyed by Bloomberg expect. The increase in prices from March to April is expected to be more muted, at 0.2 percent. The Labor Department will release the figures at 8:30 a.m. The annual jump would be the fastest increase since 2011, and a sign that prices are shooting higher as inflation figures lap extremely weak readings from 2020 and, to a lesser extent, as supply chain disruptions begin to bite and demand climbs. Central bankers think the jump in prices will be short-lived, and have made it clear that they plan to look past a temporary increase when setting policy. The technical quirks at work in April will last only a few months, officials point out, and while it is less clear when shortages will be resolved, they are expected to eventually work their way through the system as businesses ramp up production to meet demand. But the concern on Wall Street, and among some economists, is that the fast recovering economy, huge stimulus efforts from Washington and pent-up demand from consumers could mean that price gains are more pronounced or sustained than the Fed can tolerate. April 2021 forecast: +3.6% Percent change in Consumer Price Index from a year ago Some of April’s expected jump can be explained through what’s known as base effects — prices fell significantly last spring, so the increase now from the year prior is larger, even if prices are not rising as dramatically. 2021 Consumer Price Index April 2021 forecast: +3.6% Percent change in Consumer Price Index from a year ago Some of April’s expected jump can be explained through what’s known as base effects —  prices fell significantly last spring, so the increase now from the year prior is larger, even if prices are not rising as dramatically. 2021 Consumer Price Index A key part of the central bank’s role is to keep price increases contained, so a steep acceleration in prices that is expected to last might prompt it to dial back policies that keep money cheap and credit flowing. Reducing the support would probably cause stock prices to sink. While the Fed defines its inflation target using a separate measure, the Personal Consumption Expenditure index, that metric relies on data from the C.P.I. and is also expected to move above the central bank’s goal. Fed officials aim for 2 percent annual inflation on average. Central bankers have been clear that they would react if, contrary to their expectations, signs of a persistent price takeoff emerged. But they have also said they want to avoid withdrawing support from the economy early, which could leave the labor market incompletely healed and put longer-run inflation at risk of returning to uncomfortably low levels, where they have been mired for much of the past decade. Lael Brainard, a Fed governor, said during a speech on Tuesday that “remaining patient through the transitory surge associated with reopening will help ensure” the economic momentum to “reach our goals.” SoftBank reported a net profit of more than $36 billion for the year ending in March.Credit…Philip Fong/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images The comeback continued for SoftBank on Wednesday, as the Japanese technology investment firm posted a net profit of more than $36 billion for the year ending in March. Yet a recent slide in confidence in technology stocks could make it more difficult for Masayoshi Son, the founder of the technology conglomerate turned investment powerhouse, to keep up the momentum after what seemed like an impossible change of fortune. Last May, SoftBank was in crisis after posting a loss of more than $12 billion. Its big bets on Wall Street favorites, like WeWork, the troubled office space company, and Uber, resulted in huge losses. But it was not down for long. Riding high on a post-pandemic stock boom, SoftBank has since notched seemingly unthinkable gains. When compared with its previously released figures, the year-end results implied a profit for the first three months of 2021 alone of more than $17 billion. In a live-streamed press event Wednesday, Mr. Son opened by showing a photo of the humble town where SoftBank began, before calling the huge earnings numbers “lucky plus lucky plus lucky.” Mr. Son told investors on Wednesday that he would not deny that he is a gambler. But he said he regretted some decisions. The question now is whether his current run of luck can continue. SoftBank’s profit, mostly paper gains from increases in investment values, was based heavily on a jump in the price of South Korean e-commerce firm Coupang after it listed earlier this year. Results were also lifted by strong share price rises from other SoftBank investments, DoorDash and Uber. The share price of all three companies has fallen sharply over the past month on a broader pullback in technology shares, in part related to fears over inflation out of the United States. Investors appeared more interested in the broader tech sell off than Mr. Son’s luck, as SoftBank’s shares fell more than 3 percent on Wednesday, despite the solid gains. With the Colonial Pipeline, a vital fuel pipeline stretching from Texas to New Jersey, shut down after a ransomware attack, airlines, consumers and state leaders are responding as gas prices rise in part of the country. Industry analysts said the impact of the shutdown would remain relatively minor as long as the artery was fully restored soon, but drivers scrambled to fuel their vehicles at filling stations across the Southeast on Tuesday in a panic-buying spree that left thousands of outlets out of gasoline. Gasoline in Georgia and a few other states rose 3 to 10 cents a gallon on Tuesday, a price jump typically seen only when hurricanes interrupt Gulf of Mexico refinery and pipeline operations A gallon of gas increased an average of nearly 7 cents in South Carolina and 6 cents in North Carolina on Tuesday, while gas in Virginia rose about 3 cents a gallon. Filling stations in Southern states were selling two to three times their normal amount of gasoline on Tuesday, according to the Oil Price Information Service, an organization that tracks the oil sector. Some stations are running out of fuel while others are limiting purchases to 10 gallons. Gov. Brian Kemp of Georgia signed an executive order suspending his state’s gasoline tax through Saturday, which amounts to roughly 20 cents a gallon. Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina and Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia each declared a state of emergency in an effort to suspend some fuel transport rules. American Airlines said it had added stops to two daily flights out of Charlotte, N.C. One, to Honolulu, will stop in Dallas, where customers will change planes. The other, to London, will stop in Boston to refuel. The flights are expected to return to their original schedules on Saturday. Southwest Airlines said it was flying in supplemental fuel to Nashville, and United Airlines said it was flying extra fuel to Baltimore; Nashville; Savannah, Ga.; and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport in South Carolina. Shopping for books in Barcelona last month. Spain’s economy, hit hard during the pandemic, is expected to grow nearly 6 percent this year.Credit…Pau Barrena/Agence France-Presse — Getty Images The economic outlook has brightened considerably across Europe after lockdowns restricted growth at the start of the year. Now, economists can foresee the complete recovery by the end of next year from the early effects of the pandemic. The British economy grew 2.1 percent in March from the previous month, the Office for National Statistics said on Wednesday. The reopening of schools was one of the biggest reasons for the larger-than-expected jump in economic growth, as well as a rise in retail spending even though many stores remained closed because of lockdowns. The statistics agency estimated that gross domestic product fell 1.5 percent in the first quarter, slightly less than economists surveyed by Bloomberg had predicted, while the country was under lockdown with nonessential stores, restaurants and other services such as hairdressers shut. Though the British economy is still nearly 9 percent smaller than it was at the end of 2019, before the pandemic, the Bank of England forecasts it to return to that size by the end of this year. The European Commission also upgraded its forecasts for the region on Wednesday. It predicted the European Union economies would grow 4.2 percent this year, up from a forecast of 3.7 percent three months ago. Germany’s economy is forecast to grow 3.4 percent this year and Spain, which suffered Europe’s deepest recession last year, is expected to grow nearly 6 percent. “The E.U. and euro area economies are expected to rebound strongly as vaccination rates increase and restrictions are eased,” the commission, the executive arm for the European Union, said on Wednesday. The recovery will be driven by household spending, investment, and a rising demand for European exports, it said. Still, despite the optimistic outlook, the commission warned that the risks were “high and will remain so as long as the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic hangs over the economy.” Even as millions of people were vaccinated, the number of new coronavirus cases globally reached a peak in late April as the pandemic has struck especially hard in India. The uneven distribution of vaccines around the world and the emergence of new variants has the potential to set back the recovery. The National Institute Of Economic and Social Research in London said on Monday that it did not expect the British economy to return to its prepandemic size until the end of 2022, predicting a slower recovery than the central bank. Economists at the institute expect lower global growth because of uncertainty about the global vaccine rollout and lingering doubts about the end of the pandemic inducing more people to hold onto their savings, rather than spend it. The electric Endurance pickup truck made by Lordstown Motors. An investment firm claimed the company had inflated the number of orders for its pickup trucks.Credit…Tony Dejak/Associated Press Lordstown Motors is one of a dozen electric vehicle start-ups that have wowed investors with big plans to revolutionize the auto industry. But in February, a prototype it was testing in Michigan caught fire. Then, in April, another prototype dropped out of a 280-mile off-road race in Baja California after just 40 miles. Lordstown is also being investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and its stock has tumbled from a high of about $30 last year to less than $8. The swift rise and stunning decline of Lordstown are emblematic of the recent mania for E.V. businesses that are far from making a product, let alone selling it, Neal E. Boudette and Matthew Goldstein report for The New York Times. That frenzy has been driven by investors looking for the next Tesla, a pioneer in the industry that has a strong sales lead over other electric-car makers. But Lordstown seems far from achieving its goal of churning out electric pickup trucks starting in September and becoming a challenger to G.M. and Ford Motor. It’s not alone. Shares of Nikola, which is developing heavy trucks, have fallen from around $65 to about $11, for example. The S.E.C. is looking into allegations by an investment firm that Nikola made false statements about its technology. Buying protective face masks following a small outbreak of coronavirus disease in Taipei, Taiwan, on Wednesday.Credit…Ann Wang/Reuters Growing concerns in Taiwan about a small but worsening coronavirus outbreak drove a sharp intraday plunge in its stock market on Wednesday, as investors worried about new government restrictions on businesses in a place that has largely escaped the pandemic. On Wednesday morning, Taiwan’s health minister, Chen Shih-chung, said that the island’s new outbreak has reached a “very severe stage” and that restrictions could be upgraded in “the coming days.” He spoke after the government reported 16 new cases of local infection on Wednesday and seven on Tuesday. The Taiwan Stock Exchange weighted index slumped as much as 8.6 percent intraday following the news, a nearly 13 percent loss from its April peak. The market regained some ground later in the day and finished down 4.1 percent. Taiwan has been a rare success story in a pandemic-stricken world. The island democracy threw up its borders when the pandemic first began to spread from mainland China and has heavily limited travel. It has recorded only 1,210 total cases, according to a tally by The New York Times. But the authorities haven’t been able to trace the handful of cases that have popped up in recent days, raising questions about whether the government will limit the number of people who can gather within restaurants or other businesses. Taiwan instituted some Covid-related restrictions on Tuesday, the first in a long time. It suspended large events, limiting outdoor gatherings to 500 people and indoor gatherings to 100 people. On Wednesday morning, the health minister said that the restrictions might be stiffened within days. Source link Orbem News #Consumer #Live #Mislead #Prices #rising #Updates

Ancient Greece as depicted in ‘Assassin’s Creed Odyssey ‘
The study of women in ancient Greece has historically been limited and scarce. Although, this situation began to change in the 1990s and with the rise of feminist movements. It was only then that scholars began to explore women who lived alongside men and were part of the ancient Greece society and economy.
There are a number of reasons for this overlook. For instance, some scholars believe that women were not studied because scholars had not thought of them as worth looking for (Morris, 1998, p.193). It is an inevitable fact that men had higher status in ancient Greece as well as more freedom and privileges as citizens than women who were often denied of equal opportunities. This difference in status and restrictions on women meant that women were also less likely to be the subject matter of an artist or craftsman’s object, unless they were goddesses who were important to Greeks’ faith and religious. This inadequate representation of women in general in ancient Greece in addition to limited number of archeological objects that remains today that could be properly analyzed led to this lack of scholarly study of ancient Greek women. Furthermore, some scholars believe that this underrepresentation was intentional.
“Women and slaves remain invisible not because of the inevitable methodological problems with attributing gender and legal status to excavated remains, but because Athenian male citizens wanted it that way.”
                                                                               (Morris, 1998, p.220)
Regardless, there are still a number of archeological remains that could give us an idea on how women lived in ancient Greece. A great deal of our knowledge on ancient Greece women comes from illustrations done on household object such as vases. These illustration often tell a story or depict a specific scene and by analyzing them scholars are able to understand ancient people.
Below, we will take a look at some of these objects.
Tumblr media
Name of object: Women at fountain house Approximate date of object: ca. 510–500 B.C. Material of object: Terracotta Dimensions of object: H. 14 3/4 in. (37.5 cm)  Made in: Attica, Greece Current Location: The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Significance of the object: This hydria (water jar) depicts a scene where a group of Athenian women are shown to be chatting while filling their hydrias. On the right of the scene, a woman is depicted while she is waiting by the fountain and filling her hydria with water. Behind her, four woman are depicted while they chat with each other. Two of the women are carrying their hydrias on their heads. The other two are using hand gestures while they chat with each other. Providing the daily supply of water was often a woman’s domestic duties in ancient Greece.
Tumblr media
Name of object: Hydria with a scene at a fountain-house Approximate date of object: 520BC-500BC Material of object: Pottery Dimensions of object: 50.80 cm Findspot of object: Vulci, Italy Made in: Attica, Greece Current Location: The British Museum
Significance of the object: This hydria depicts a scene in which women are preparing for a ritual while getting water from the fountain-house. There are six women in total in this scene. On the far left and far right we see two women on each side carrying hydrias on their shoulders as they leave the fountain-house. In the centre of the scene we see a pilaster and two Ionic columns, above them a pediment. Behind the pillars, we have two other women drawing water from the fountain shaped like the head of lion, as they pour them into the hydrias. One of the most important role of women in Ancient Greece was preparing for and performing rituals. According to the British Museum, where this hydria is currently on display, the leafy branches that some of the figures in the painting appear to be carrying is often seen in religious contexts suggesting this is a scene from a ritual for the gods Hermes and Dionysos. This ritual known as Hydrophoria, would take place “on the second day of the spring festival of the Anthesteria, and involved the ceremonial pouring of water into a particular chasm.” (The British Museum).
There are a number of household remains that depict women near water fountains. According to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the first hydria is on display today, after Peisistratos and his sons changed and improved the water system of the ancient Athens, these type of depictions became more common. These fountains provided an opportunity for women to socialize with each other, update each other on recent events and gossips, and take a break outside from their domestic responsibilities at home.
Tumblr media
Name of object: Amphora likely depicting Sappho Approximate date created: 450BC (circa) Material of object: pottery Made in: Attica (Greece) Dimensions of object: 33.02 cm Type: Hydria Findspot: Kimissalla Current Location: The British Museum
Significance of object: This hydria (water jug) depicts four women in a room. One of the women is shown to be seated and is reading a scroll. The three other women appear to be attending her. The attendant on the left is shown to be standing with her left arm on her hip, her gaze down at the seating women, and her right arm holding an object that looks like a spindle flask. The women on the right also have their eyes down at the seating women. One of the women is holding a box and the other is holding what appears to be a flower.
Tumblr media
Name of Object: Red-Figure Amphora with Musical Scene Approximate Date Created: 460-450 BC (Classical Greece) Material: terracotta Dimensions: 44.7 cm Type: amphorae Object Findspot: Attica, Greece Current Location: The Walters Art Museum
Significance of object: This amphorae (ancient Greece jar with two handles and a narrow neck) is the work of a prominent painter known as the Niobid Painter (named after his most famous vase). It depicts three affluent Athenian women whom appear to be playing musical instruments. According to the Walter’s Art Museum where this amphorae currently has been placed, the women appear to be wearing the attire of maenads, the female followers of Dionysus' cult (also known as Bacchus). The woman on the right appears to be holding double flutes while the woman in the middle is sitting on a chair and holding a barbiton (a stringed instrument). The third woman on the left appears to be opening a box. On the background we see a lyre (small u-shaped harp used in ancient Greece) hanging above them. This is one of the important pieces of art that remains today and could tell us how the ancient Greece women lived and spent their leisurely times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name of Object: Attic Black-Figure Mastos (Side A and B) Approximate Date Created: 520–500 B.C Material: terracotta Dimensions: 12.1 × 20.5 × 13.3 cm Type: Mastos Object Findspot: Athens, Greece Current Location: The J. Paul Getty Museum
Significance of object:  The side A of this Mastos (drinking vessel shaped like a women’s breast), depicts a young woman who is playing a double flute. The Side B view, depicts another women dancing while holding a branch and an ivy spring. According to The J. Paul Getty Museum, these attributes as well as their attire which is made of animal skin indicates that they are maenads, female followers of Dionysos (the god of wine). The Mastos were rare type of pottery that were only produced in Athens in the late 500s B.C. and were meant to be used at a symposium (aristocratic male drinking party).Since the nipple did not provide a support for the cup to be put down on the table, the wine had to be consumed all at once.
Tumblr media
Name of object: Cup with a Woman Drinking in a Storeroom Approximate Date Created:460–450 B.C. Location Created: Athens, Greece Material of the object: Terracotta Dimensions: 15.3 × 27.5 × 17.9 cm Type: Skyphos Current Location: The J. Paul Getty Museum
Significance of object: This skyphos (a two-handled deep wine-cup) depicts a scene from the daily life of two Athenian women. On the front, an older woman is depicted while she drinks wine from a skyphos. She appears to be out of balance and perhaps drunk. She is unattractive with a misshaped neck. On the left, another younger girl, perhaps a servant, is depicted while she holds a wineskin on her shoulders and carries a jug. According to the J. Paul Getty Museum, where this skyphos is currently on display, aristocratic women in ancient Athens were forbidden from drinking wine and getting drunk as it may have led them to commit adultery or may have harmed their babies. Such bans would have been lifted past child-bearing age. Therefore, this is an unusual piece that remains today which could tell us about these women’s daily lives.
There are a number of vases, jars, cups, and other household objects that depict women playing musical instruments , reading books, drinking wine, or dancing around. These depictions tell us women in ancient Greece did have other hobbies and were involved in a variety of activities besides their domestic duties. Yet, some scholars believe that these portrayals should be treated with cautious because we do not have any testimonies from these women themselves and all we have are illustrations and writings made by men.
“Although some vase paintings depict a rather rosy picture of women reading, playing musical instruments, and dancing that challenge the more conventional view of women as repressed and uneducated, we cannot know how typical such scenes are of daily life.”
                                                                                     (Garland, 2008, p.84)
Tumblr media
Name of object: Attic Red-Figure Kylix Approximate Date Created: about 490 B.C Location Created: Athens, Greece Material of the object: Terracotta Dimensions: 8.5 × 36.9 cm Type: kylix Current Location: The J. Paul Getty Museum
Significance of the object: This kylix (cup with a shallow bowl and a tall stem),  depicts a nude woman lying down on a bed with her left leg bent underneath her right leg. The woman is shown playing kottabos (a drinking game) and she holds a skyphos (drinking cup) with her right hand index finger. According to  The J. Paul Getty Museum, since symposiums were events exclusive to men, the women who attended were either hetairai ( a courtesan) or hired prostitutes.
Tumblr media
Name of object: Red-figured Psykter: Four Hetaerae Approximate Date Created: 505-500 B.C. Location Created: Attica, Greece Material of the object: Clay Dimensions: 35.5 cm Type: Psykter Current Location: The State Hermitage Museum
Significance of the objet: This Psykter (a vase used as wine cooler), depicts a nude woman who is laying down on a bed and drinking wine. According to The State Hermitage Museum, this vase is the only signed work by Euphronius, a leading Greek vase-painter. On her either side are also two other nude women. Similar to the previous picture, these women are most likely at a symposium and they are either hetaeraes or hired prostitutes for entrainment of men.
In a male dominant society such as ancient Greece where women had many restrictions and limited freedom, depictions of nude women can only mean one thing: they are either courtesans or hired prostitutes. Most of these women are believed to have been slaves or immigrants. In fact, foreign women are almost always discussed as sexual labourers (Kennedy, 2014, p.2). However, remained inscriptions and records indicates that these women also worked as nurses, midwives, woolworkers, musicians, and vendors at markets (Kennedy, 2014, p.3).
“As the Athenians further developed a sense of ethnic and social superiority over the course of the fi fth century, metic women found themselves the victims of a form of ideological warfare. They became the ultimate enemy of the Athenian state and thus found themselves spoken of and represented only as courtesans, concubines, and slaves. But we should not mistake this ideology of the metic woman, this tragic fantasy, for reality. The reality of these women’s lives was probably quite different“

Transfer Talk: Juve's Dybala linked with swap for Barca's Dembele
Tumblr media
The January transfer window may seem like a distant memory, but that doesn’t mean the rumour mill has shut down! Speculation over summer moves is heating up, so check out the latest gossip below, and see all official deals here.
TOP STORY: Juve’s Dybala linked with swap for Barca’s Dembele
Juventus‘ Paulo Dybala and Barcelona‘s Ousmane Dembele have been linked with a swap as both players’ contracts come to an end in 2022, according to Calciomercato.
– Insider Notebook: Haaland fee set at €180m – UEFA WC qualifiers on ESPN+: Stream games, replays (U.S. only) – Stream ESPN FC Daily on ESPN+ (U.S. only)
Dembele, 23, has definitely made an improvement on his previous campaigns in a Barcelona shirt, contributing nine goals and four assists in all competitions this term.
However, the aforementioned contract situation does mean he could still depart Camp Nou, due to Barcelona’s delicate financial position meaning. The club is especially wary of losing the winger for free after signing him for €105 million plus €40m in add-ons from Borussia Dortmund.
This comes despite club president Joan Laporta saying that he’s a fan of Dembele and stating that he is looking into a contract renewal.
Dybala, 27, has previously been linked with a swap deal to Barcelona — for Dembele’s teammate Antoine Griezmann. Dybala has also been mentioned to go to Paris Saint-Germain for Mauro Icardi.
There is a feeling at Juventus that Dembele is worth investing in — even if they lose Dybala — especially due to Dembele’s age.
PAPER GOSSIP
– Real Madrid are in a good position to sign David Alaba, but AS have suggested that Los Blancos are making backup plans in case they miss out. The report states that Sevilla FC‘s Jules Kounde, Villarreal‘s Pau Torres and Napoli‘s Kalidou Koulibaly are on the club’s list. They could also potentially turn to Jesus Vallejo, who is on loan to Granada — something that would save money in a tough financial climate.
– Following Monday’s announcement that Sergio Aguero will be leaving Manchester City in the summer, the Daily Mail has compiled a list of players who could replace the Argentine talisman. The first name is Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland, who is said to be the main priority. City are also eyeing Tottenham Hotspur‘s Harry Kane and Southampton‘s Danny Ings. There is also interest in Barcelona great Lionel Messi, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Internazionale frontman Romelu Lukaku.
As for Aguero, sources have told ESPN’s Mark Ogden that he is drawing interest from Juventus, Barcelona and PSG after ruling out a return to boyhood club Independiente.
– AC Milan are considering Lorient‘s Armand Lauriente to replace Alexis Saelemaekers, according to Calciomercato. The Italian giants have been looking at other Ligue 1 talent to fill that position, with Lille‘s Jonathan Ikone another option.
– Aston Villa have joined the race to sign AFC Bournemouth starlet Ajani Burchall, according to Football Insider. Arsenal, West Ham United and Leeds United are said to have already been looking at the 16-year-old attacker who hails from Bermuda.

Neymar i Kylian Mbappé junts.

Why Mikel Oyarzabal would be a perfect Sane replacement at Man City
According to 90min (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester City are ready to activate the £68m buyout clause of Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal.
The 22-year old Spaniard is being considered by City as part of a contingency plan in the wake of out of favour winger Leroy Sane’s expected departure to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich next summer.
Tumblr media

The Bavarians, who expected to sign the 23-year old Sane in the summer, however, suffered a major setback when he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in August.
However, Bayern are still interested in landing the German winger at the Allianz Arena as he nurses his way back after surgery.
Meanwhile, City have found a replacement for Sane in Oyarzabal as he tops their list of players to make an entry into the Etihad next summer.
With a £68m release clause, Oyarzabal has been quite impressive for the fifth-placed Real Sociedad since making his debut five years back.
Tumblr media

Primarily a left-winger, Oyarzabal is comfortable on the other flank as well and could at times function as a centre-forward too as per the game’s requirements.
The 6-cap Spain international has already featured in every single game for his club this season, which shows his significance in the side.
With four goals and as many assists to his name, he has been one of the top performers for the Basque side this season.
At such a young age, Oyarzabal is a proven match-winner and champion, having helped Spain claim the Under-21 European Championship this summer.

He was instrumental in his team’s success, scoring twice and assisting once during the course of the tournament.
A left-footed player, Oyarzabal is not the fastest of wingers around but is blessed with vicious agility, which he capitalizes to the maximum to beat approaching defenders – a trait similar to City’ Bernado Silva.
Known for his deft movements and good shooting abilities, Oyarzabal has a 2.2 shots per game and has been adjudged man of the match three times this season, according to Whoscored.
A consistent player, Oyarzabal has more than 10 goals to his credit in the last two season seasons for the White and Blues.

He scored 13 goals last season and 12 the year before, which further validates his role as a regular in the Sociedad side even at such a young age.
With Sane’s future in doubt and Raheem Sterling attracting interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid, Oyarzabal could be a major candidate to fill the void left vacant by the two City stars.
Verdict
With Oyarzabal’s arrival, City would have a hugely talented youngster who could replace the world-class attackers City already have at their disposal.

His consistency over a period of five seasons for Sociedad at such a young age makes him one of the most high-profile talented youngsters City could lay their hands on.

Santorini Review
Santorini is an incredible abstract strategy game. Yes, it rehashes the old truism ‘easy to learn, hard to master’ as its tagline, and its artstyle is rife with chibi-style Greco-Roman mythical figures, but trust me, every part of this syncretic approach works. Abstracts have a habit of punching well above their weight, and this one will twist your brain in knots. On a 5x5 grid, players take turns moving figures and placing buildings, step by step, the iconic ivory-and-azur builds of the island Santorini. It is a skillful game with a rich, cutesy presentation.
The core ruleset is wicked simple, but also stays true to abstraction as a genre by offering a robust challenge. Santorini’s masterstroke is to offer an additional layer that gives each player a unique power which breaks the normal scheme of things. Gaia has extra pieces for example, and Artemis can move twice. The game is satisfying even in its powerless, vanilla form, so mixing in these variations makes for a truly infinite challenge. In this, it reminds me of Cosmic Encounter as much as Chess. Both are helter-skelter in its variety, regimental in core procedure. Each turn a piece must move (either adjacently or orthogonally) and then build nearby. A piece can move at most one step up but can ‘jump’ any steps down. The game ends when one player advances their piece to the third level from a lower level. It can also, more rarely, end because the other player cannot make a legal move with either of their pieces. That’s the gist of it, barring certain edge-cases and power interactions.
I had forgotten how rusty I’d become and upon firing up the app for the first time I proceeded to lose to the temptingly-named ‘novice’ AI. A few times. This game has teeth, folks, and its bots will trounce the unwary. Re-learning good play was like revisiting Chess, or perhaps Cinco Paus. Certain patterns and rules of thumb emerge. The center is vitally important, one generally seeks the upper ground to gain the upper hand, and initial placements are almost never around the periphery of the board. It’s difficult to generalize beyond this, but after just a few thoughtful short play sessions, Santorini creates something like a flow state: pure challenge, effortless concentration. Can’t say I’m a grandmaster or that these bouts of time spent were filled with earth-shattering insights, but I can vouch that the flow means it’s an inviting game to lose yourself in.
It’s also an inviting game to learn. The system and rules are so simple as to appear plain, indeed many people bounce off abstracts because they seem ‘dull’, but Santorini has plenty of spirit and style. It’s a good game for kids to pick up, because it has a low barrier to entry and some whimsy to its presentation. Said whimsy belies an absolutely ironclad, zero-variance mental slugfest. ‘For kids’ means the highest praise, cool enough to attract fickle attention but clever enough to hold up over ages. There’s a metagame and deeper level of nuance behind power matchups, but the standard ruleset is extremely refined and punishing. The game has opted for a series of short videos to illustrate bite-sized examples of the game. There’s a mother-lode one for how to play, and a bunch of spin-offs which each explain a specific character’s power. The game also has really clean-cut iconography, with suggestive visual icons for a power above the ruletext and an eminently readable board. The color saturation and architecturally distinct levels make parsing the field at a glance a breeze. So, yeah, it’s polished.
It also has a decent online multiplayer, though here some features are lacking. You find matches either through random pair-ups, or by invitation only with a code. There is an ELO-based ranking system but no official ranked mode. Last but not least, all online multiplayer uses a 45 second turn timer. Usually that’s enough to speed things along without undue pressure, but one would hope that exceptions for particularly vexing turns were possible.
The single player ‘Odyssey’ mode is very fun, structured as a series of God-specific challenges with optional trophies to unlock. Your playstyle and strategic headspace probably has favorite gods and least favorite foes, so if nothing else, Odyssey is a nice way to sample the field. It’s kinda like Splendor’s challenge mode, creating artificial constraints the player has to solve creatively. The game isn’t drowning in content but it is dripping with replayability. Do note that more than a few of the gods are premium DLC, and that their respective parts of ‘Odyssey’ are also locked.
Here at Pocket Tactics, we’re deeply fond of our board game adaptations. Usually they’re a long time coming, and when they arrive they breathe new life into an older, august title. Well, even among these, Santorini is special. For one, its history stretches back a little further than most. It had pretty much become an obscure collector’s item, praised but unknown, from its 2004 self-published version until its 2016 Kickstarter gave it a new art style and high production values, along with widespread, cost-efficient distribution. The game has always been very good, only lately to have been given the just distinction of becoming well-known. It’s even better than most other adaptations, partially because the game is simple, so plenty of attention has been given to bells-and-whistles. There are sophisticated animations, unique effects for each god power, and a full-throated soundtrack.
Santorini is a picturesque dream of an island, and the game with its namesake is as good as it gets. It marries perfectly two distinct brands of appeal, the wildly imaginative to the coldly analytical. Enough beauty and wit are in this one to keep Santorini on a gamer’s homepage and daily rotation for a good while. Great for abstract die-hards, excellent for those just getting their toes wet. The DLC pricing is a smidge high, and the lack of asynchronous multiplayer a little disheartening, but these are trifling drawbacks to a paragon of what abstract board games can be.

Colombian beauty influencer Paulina Galindo, better known as “Pau Tips” on social media, has taken the internet by storm, amassing over 7 million followers on Instagram.
“I started my career, like, seven years ago, when I graduated from high school and I didn’t know what to do with my life,” she tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “I started watching a lot of YouTube videos, but they were all made by Americans.”
Seeing a gap in the Spanish-speaking beauty vlogger community, Galindo decided to create videos herself and became an instant hit. “It started [out as] a game for me,” she explains. She says she was one of the first vloggers to share beauty content in Spanish, back in May of 2012.
Today, she’s a top beauty influencer with almost 9 million YouTube subscribers, and a growing Instagram following.

Galindo says, “I use two pencils.” She defines her natural shape using Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil Ultra Fine Shape & Define ($24) to fill in the sparse areas. Then, she brushes her arches, “so that it looks more natural,” with the other end of the brow pencil.
To finish her brow look, Galindo uses the brand’s High Brow Glow Luminous Highlight & Lift Pencil ($22). “It’s like a concealer,” she explains. “I define and outline my eyebrows… and then with a brush I just blend it into my skin and it looks natural, and then at the end to set it all I use a clear brow gel.”
Tip #2: A natural glow

“For this, I am going to use a palette of highlighters and also a facial spray.” The beauty maven preps skin with Too Faced Hangover 3-in-1 Replenishing Primer & Setting Spray ($32) and layers the powder highlighter on the high points of her cheekbones. “When you mix these two textures, powder and liquid, [the look] becomes really natural and you get this glow.”
Tip #3: Rosy glow for cheek and lips
Tumblr media
Benefit Posietint Cheek & Lip Stain. (Photo: Sephora)
Shop it: Benefit Posietint Cheek & Lip Stain, $30, sephora.com
Galindo recommends using creams and liquid tints to achieve a rosy flush on cheeks and lips. She suggests using your fingers to apply cream blush on the cheeks. “Because it’s a cream texture, it’s going to last all day long on your cheeks,” she explains. “If you want to set it, just use a little bit of powder blush.”
She finishes her look using Benefit Posietint Cheek & Lip Stain ($30) on her lips. “They look like a nail polish but they’re actually for your lips and your cheeks,” she says. “I’m going to put a little bit on the center [of my lips] and blend outwards …and top it off with lip balm or Vaseline.”

DIY: Effective, Natural Recipes for Colds, Flu, Sinus Congestion
NOTE: This article has multiple DIY: Effective, Natural Recipes for Colds, Flu, Sinus Congestion. To make it easier to navigate, use the Table of Contents button to your right!
Hot Toddy Recipe for Colds
1. Pour hot steaming boiling water into cup. 2. Add 2 tsps. lemon juice. 3. Add 2 tsps. honey (any kind, although raw honey is best). 4. Lightly dip one herbal tea bag (any flavor, but we recommend Traditional Medicinals Gypsy Cold Care tea to be used in a hot toddy recipe for colds) in cup. If you are using the Gypsy Cold Care tea, steep, covered, for 10-15 minutes before drinking. 5. Sip slowly. Repeat every two hours (or as needed) for cold/flu.
Optional:
Add 1 tsp. of rum, brandy, whiskey, or cordial to this hot toddy recipe for colds. When I was a child, my mom's ‘go to' cough syrup was whiskey, lemon, and honey in equal amounts. We'd get about a tablespoon per dose. I used the same for my children as they were growing up and it is, in my opinion, the best cough syrup around. This hot toddy for colds can work in much the same way!
NOTE: The purpose of this hot toddy recipe for colds is threefold:
1. The hot steam from the boiled water will help loosen the mucus in your nose and throat and enable you to breathe more freely.
2. The lemon dislodges the mucus from your throat and adds much-needed vitamin C.
3. The honey not only coats your throat to prevent redness, but also soothes the throat irritation from the dislodged mucus, as well as adding nutritional benefits.
4. If you add the alcohol, it helps to “sweat” out whatever fever you may have and helps you sleep better.
Adding the tea to this hot toddy recipe for colds is not absolutely necessary unless you want additional flavoring, but do not use regular tea as most are caffeinated. Gypsy Cold Care by Traditional Medicinals is my personal favorite for this remedy, with green tea being a close second.
Hot toddies have been around for centuries, especially in England and Ireland. What I've particularly noticed is that upon drinking two or three cups of this tea (spaced two hours apart), my cold symptoms are reduced dramatically within 24 hours. We hope this hot toddy recipe for colds helps you feel a whole lot better!

Honey Thyme for Colds and Flu
Cold and Flu season is upon us, but we have an ancient remedy for congestion, coughs, and Sore Throats that is simply the bees's knees!
It calls for honey, the sweetest of healers, and Thyme, a wonderful herb with Antibacterial properties that had been used by Wise Ones for centuries to alleviate the miseries of colds and flus. Easy to make and delicious to use:
1 cup honey
1/2 cup fresh Thyme or 1/4 cup dried Thyme
In a small saucepan, combine the two ingredients and heat gently over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, being sure not to let the honey boil or scorch. Remove from heat and allow the honey to cool. Strain out the Herbs, then bottle the honey and label it.
To relieve colds, coughs, and Sore Throats, take 1 teaspoon of this Thyme-infused honey three times a day. You could also add a teaspoon of it to a cup of regular hot tea and sip slowly.

Essential Oil Nasal Spray Recipe
1 teaspoon Eucalyptus Oil
1 teaspoon of Marjoram
1 tablespoon of water
Use less Essential Oils if it burns too much. Don't blow your nose for at least 5 minutes after using the spray. The formula should last for several hours.
Zesty Cider Cold and Flu Formula
Several healing ingredients make this tasty formula one that you can drink at the first sign of a cold or Flu to help open up your sinuses and bronchial passages. You can also gargle with it for relief from Sore Throats. Here's the recipe:
25 Cloves Garlic, minced
2 tablespoons dried or 3 tablespoons fresh Echinacea root, grated or chopped
1/3 cup fresh horseradish root, grated
1/4 cup fresh Gingerroot, peeled and sliced
1 large white onion, diced
1/2 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper powder
Honey to sweeten, if desired
Raw apple cider vinegar, 1 quart or less
Place all dry ingredients in a 1-quart wide mouth jar. Fill to the top with vinegar. Cover the top of the jar with plastic wrap, then screw on the lid. Refrigerate for 6 weeks so the flavor can develop and soften. Shake daily. There's no need to strain and bottle it unless you want to. The flavor keeps getting better and bolder the longer the formula is allowed to steep.
At the first sign of a cold or Flu, take 2 tablespoons of this formula with a warm water chaser. Rinse mouth out well after swallowing the cider. Repeat once or twice daily for the duration of the illness. You should feel your sinus and bronchial passages quickly open and your breathing become easier.
For a Sore Throat, gargle with the formula for 60 seconds, spit, then rinse out your mouth. You should feel immediate relief.

Sinus Headache Bath Salts
2-3 cups epsom salts (or salts of your choice)
1/3 cup peppermint
1/3 cup spearmint
40 drops peppermint eo
20 drops eucalyptus eo
I ground the mints in my mortar and pestle, then sifted them through a mesh kitchen strainer, and added them to the salts. Actually, I didn't really measure the amount, it was just a good handful of each.
This seems to work pretty well, and if you still need to clear out your sinuses, get a half cup of pepper/spearmint, put it in a bowl, and toss in a cup or so hot water. Let it sit covered for a bit and then carefully start breathing the steam. (I found out how potent this was when I was making peppermint ‘tea' for a m&p!!
Use about 1/4 – 1/3 cup of this mixture per bath. I went through the ‘batch' within 2 weeks, but someone suggested to mix the salts and dried herbs beforehand, and when the need for the bath arises, to add the eo's then to guarantee potency.
A decent amount would probably be 4 drops peppermint, 2 drops eucalyptus per bath. Some people may be more sensitive to the peppermint, so be sure they don't have an adverse reaction before using these salts.
Chest and Sinus Congestion Essential Oil Blend
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Tea Tree
2 drops Eucalyptus
Boil a pot of water and remove from the stove. While still steaming, add 2 drops Eucalyptus, 2 drops Lavender and 2 drops Tea Tree. Cover bowl and head with towel and inhale for at least 3 minutes. KEEP EYES CLOSED.
Herbal Tea Remedy for Cold and Flu (Recipe)
3 parts Echinacea
3 parts Goldenseal Root
2 parts Pau D Arco
2 parts Peppermint leaf
2 parts Mullein
1 part Ginger Root
Combine all of the Herbs together. Place 2 Tablespoons of mix in jar that can be completely covered. Pour 6 ounces of hot water over the Herbs and seal.
Steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain Herbs. Drink 1 cup 3 times a day. Inhale the tea to relieve sinus congestion.
Nighttime Formula for Colds and Flu
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Tea Tree
Add 2 drops lavender and 2 drops tea tree to a steaming bowl of water – let stand so that the steam diffuses into the room (or add same essential oils to a tea candle diffuse
Cold Care Bath Essential Oil Blend
5 drops Eucalyptus
2 drops Peppermint
2 drops Lavender
For Bath: Add oils directly to a tub full of warm water and mix well.
As Inhalant: Add blend to a simmer pot in a sick room. Be sure to watch the water level.
For Massage Oil: Add blend to 1/2 ounce base Massage Oil and massage into the chest.
This pungent blend opens the nose and soothes aching muscles. It is effective when a cold is coming on. Before using it, apply to a small patch of skin on the inside of the arm to test for skin sensitivity. Never apply pure essential oils “neat,” or undiluted, without testing them first.
Natural Help for a Head Cold
A head cold is a most uncomfortable feeling which affects nasal and sinus passages, accompanied by pain and tenderness.
Add 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil to 4 cups of water, drape towel over pot and inhale. At night add 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil to a vaporizer. You can also rub a few drops of Tea Tree Oil on the nose and forehead areas.

Daytime Cold and Flu Formula
2 drops Eucalyptus Oil
2 drops Lavender Oil
2 drops Peppermint Oil
2 drops Tea Tree Oil
Add 2 drops Eucalyptus, 2 drops Lavender, 2 drops Peppermint and 2 drops Tea Tree to a steaming bowl of water – let stand so that the steam diffuses into the room (or add same essential oils to an oil Diffuser). You can also drape a towel over your head and inhale the vapors for 5-10 minutes to help with cold and congestion symptoms.
Herbal Blood Purifier Recipe for Treating a Cold
2 oz. Echinacea root, 1 oz.
Yellow Dock root
1 oz. Golden Seal root
1/2 oz. Ginseng root
Powder herbs and mix together. Put into size 00 capsules and take 2 capsules 3 times a day for 10 days. This combination is good for just about any illness.
Nasal Congestion Quick Fix
Nothing works faster to clear clogged sinuses than horseradish. The oils in this plant boost circulation in your nasal passages, which then loosens mucus.
Mix a teaspoon of grated fresh horseradish with a little apple cider vinegar or honey, and eat it on toast (the vinegar and honey take the edge off the potent horseradish taste). Inhale deeply as you grate the horseradish; the fumes alone will start breaking up your congestion.
Oil Blend Recipe for Colds and Flu
10 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
10 drops Pine Essential Oil
Add to the bath or put on section of paper towel so you can benefit by inhalation. Inhale frequently. Place on pillow beside nose. This opens the sinuses and helps clear the head of congestion. Eucalyptus is also a natural antiseptic.

BOOSTING YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM FOR TRAVELING
Wellness and traveling go hand in hand. Keeping your body in good immune shape is paramount to both protecting your body from disease and preventing fatigue and jetlag while abroad!
Plus, if you are traveling to third world countries, please make your health a priority. Even if major breakouts aren’t happening, your body, our bodies, aren’t used to all of the same bacterias and viruses found in those countries. And, it really doesn’t take much to set something in motion.
For me personally, I learned this lesson the hard way while contracting the swine flu in India. I now do lots of cleanses and healthy eating weeks before taking a trip (even to first world countries). I take in and eat all sorts of strange things like spiralina and loads of vitamin C. I do what I can to boost my immune system before heading out.
I have also learned to always travel with a significant amount of items like probiotic pills, vitamin C tablets, and harder drugs like amoxicillin. If I had had those things the first day my symptoms appeared in India, there wouldn’t be such a story to tell, but then again, I wouldn’t have learned such a value lesson that I can know pass along to hopefully help others.
The world is absolutely amazing. Traveling is life changing. Adventure is soul altering, but nothing is worth it if you aren’t around to experience it, so always make your health and wellness a priority.
Here are a few recommendations to stay healthy while on the go:
1. TAKE SUPPLEMENTS:
When I am home, I take supplements every morning and do what I can to avoid conventional medicine such as advil. When I am traveling, I do my best to do the same thing as well. I am not a health care professional, but I can speak to what has helped me while I am abroad. I always travel with a number of immune boosts and antioxidants like Vitamin C, Turmeric, Echinacea, and Pau d'Arco. Probiotic in pill form also works wonders! I'm no health expert, but I have found these work wonders for me. Essential oils are also great. Check out this article for more on in-flight essential oils.
2. EAT WELL BEFORE BOARDING THE FLIGHT:
I eat loads of veggies and fruit and do what I can on a daily basis to not stuff my body with harmful food. Look, I love Doritos, cool ranch of course, and mac and cheese just as much as the next gal. But, living a life on the go means that your immune system has to keep up! So, weeks before a trip, I really kick up the exercise for the lymphatic system and eat loads of healthy foods for the immune system! I focus on eating antioxidant packed foods to try to keep my body on the up and up! For example, these raw bars pack a huge health punch and are great to travel with!
3. BYO WATER BOTTLE:
After my passport, credit card, and phone, a refillable water bottle is the one thing I always pack. Airports usually have a water dispenser meant to refill a water bottle. If not, go to the nearest Starbucks and ask for cups of water, and then refill your bottle yourself. Water is hugely important! Airplanes are notoriously dehydrating (which messes up your skin and worsens jet lag), and they serve drinks in what might as well be Dixie cups. So bring lots of water, and if you head to the back of the plane and politely ask, often flight attendants will fill your bottle! I swear by the Vapur refillable bottle!
4. ALWAYS KEEP IT MOVING:
I’m always looking for ways to get my body moving (regular bathroom breaks and aisle stretching help in flight). If my flight’s delayed or there’s a long layover, I’ll speed-walk through terminals to pass the time and keep my legs moving! Also, I rarely ever step onto one of those moving sidewalks. Whenever possible, I walk and/or take the stairs. And, if I have a long layover, I find a quiet spot, and I bust out a round of push-ups or squats (yes, I’m that person). I have been in hundreds of airports and have never run into the same person twice, so go for it girl.
5. LET GO OF THE ALL OR NOTHING THINKING:
It’s nearly impossible to keep a good schedule when traveling. Things are always in flux. So, doing your typical morning yoga routine probably wont happen. Often, it is easy to have an all or nothing mentality. For example, if you can't do your full routine, then you do no routine. When travleing the idea is to just roll with everything and to do your best to fit in healthy habits. Even 10 mins of yoga is better than no yoga, so whatever you can do, do it!
6. FIND A LOCAL CLASS:
Wellness in general is booming, so it is usually quite easy to find fitness classes wherever you are in the world. Local classes are a great way to interact with locals in their daily lives. Reserach your area and find a work out class nearest to you. I often stick with a practice like yoga that I am familiar with so that if language becomes a barrier, then at least I sort of know what is going on!
7. EAT LOCAL & EAT HEALTHY:
I always try the local foods. I think it is essentially to understanding a culture. But, in general, local foods aren't healthy. Moderation is key here. I often visit local markets to get fresh produce, cook in my hotel or airbnb, and do what I can to eat as healthy as possible while on the go. You would be surprised how many places now have loads of healthy restaurants and cafes. Do research and make sure to stop into those places first before sitting down to fill up on fried fish and chips!
8. EMBRACE BALANCE:
As with anything, balance is key. Recognize the moments that you are just sitting by the pool drinking a margarita and know to incorporate movement, hydration, and healthy in the next day's activities. Enjoy yourself and your vacation! Just make a point to include health and wellness when and where you can and find a sense of balance while abroad!

Sailing Mallorca with InAdventures: The Floating Retreat I Didn’t Know I Needed
One morning in Mallorca, I am staring upside down at the Mediterranean sea.
The calm voice of our yoga instructor tells us to step out of Downward Dog and into the next pose. As my body rights itself on the slowly rocking deck of the boat, I have to concentrate hard to ground myself in the practice.
It’s understandably difficult when you bear in mind where I am. Standing on the prow of a small yacht in the middle of the Med is undoubtedly one of the strangest places I’ve ever practiced yoga – and yet for the past few days, it’s been the way each of my mornings have begun.
A post shared by CARA LOUISE / / (@cgypsyy) on Jun 18, 2018 at 10:25am PDT
I’m not the most likely traveller to spend a week on a yacht.
Boats are not my forte. Growing up I was always scared of waves, and used to cry when my parents suggested going to the sea. Even after snorkelling with sharks in the Galapagos and going scuba diving in Australia, I still have a healthy respect for open water. Something about its hidden depths and the sudden sense of how comparatively small I am makes it hard to enjoy boat life.
Yet I still agreed to live onboard a boat owned by a Spaniard for five days as it sailed around Mallorca. Why?
Well for starters, I’m helplessly in love with Spain, and every opportunity I have to travel there is a joy. But I also wanted to challenge both my sailing concerns and the preconceptions I have about all-inclusive boat trips like this one with InAdventures Travel.

My major reservation with the trend for group sailing trips is, honestly, feeling trapped into situations I don’t want to be part of. There’s a reputation for sailing holidays to be wholly focused on getting drunk, and while I do enjoy a drink, feeling obliged to get drunk because it fits the stereotype is not really my idea of fun!
But as soon as I spoke to Pau, the founder and skipper of InAdventures, I got the impression that his sailing company was different. The concept for his trips is to combine sailing, yoga and organic food with outdoor adventuring around the Spanish island of Mallorca: perfect for modern, eco-conscious explorers who want to see a hidden side to the island from a local Mallorcan who loves his home.
I was sold. Both on the trip concept, and on its clearly passionate organiser.
Stepping on board the InAdventures yacht
When going sailing with a bunch of strangers, one of the most important factors is a positive group dynamic. Luckily, the fifteen other writers and photographers were just as keen for a relaxing week as I was.
I’d never met any of them before, but it didn’t take long for the bonding to begin – particularly when a welcome platter served in a paella dish appeared from the galley before we’d even left the harbour.
That first afternoon set the precedent for a week of luxurious sailing. After a quick intro from Pau about what our plans for the next few days would entail, we set sail for open water, zipping through the waves with the engine off, the sails full, and the wind at our back.
What is the InAdventures boat life really like?
As a pretty novice sailor I’d had a few concerns before arriving, but they all vanished once I saw the boat for myself. However, living in a floating home does warrant some crucial lifestyle adjustments:
Cabin space is limited. This means learning to tidy up after yourself and packing away as much of your stuff as possible. Luckily, small boats are filled with hidden cupboards and storage spaces, so if you love organisation as much as I do it’s pretty much a dream scenario! It’s also worth bringing a soft bag – I used an Osprey Fairview 40 pack which was perfect.
Sharing a bed with a stranger is way easier than you’d think! Most of the InAdventures cabins are for two people to share (although you can pay a bit extra for a private cabin) – and as a solo traveller it means immediate bonding times with your lucky cabinmate. I was suspicious about how small the mattress looked, but as soon as I clambered into bed each night, both Daisy (my bed partner) and I were asleep in minutes.
Boats move. A lot. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but leaving valuable objects in perilous positions means they could fall into the ocean and vanish forever. Keeping track of where your belongings are and ensuring they’re stowed safely is paramount.
None of the doors lock. A knock-and-wait system for the bathroom develops pretty immediately as a result, but the quicker you remember this, the better.
Flushing a marine toilet takes practice. Also known as ‘heads’, these tiny toilets require the use of a hand pump in two different directions: one to flush away used dirty water, and the other to rinse off the bowl with clean water. There’s no flushing of anything that you haven’t eaten first, either – that includes toilet paper, which goes in the bin instead.
Saving water is a priority. When the boats leave harbour they have a finite amount of fresh, clean water on board, which is destined for cooking, drinking and washing for the entire length of the voyage. We shut off the taps whenever possible and didn’t shower much (easy when the ocean is right next door for a quick cool-down!)
As I quickly discovered, we barely spent any time below decks. Instead our days were entirely spent outside, either clambering from one boat to the other or adventuring on land.
All of the InAdventures voyages run with two boats in tandem

Exploring Mallorca’s coastline
Pau didn’t call his company ‘In Adventures’ by accident. In fact, I get the feeling that he perceives being ‘in adventures’ in the same context as being ‘in love’, as every day he had a new Mallorca-based activity on the agenda for us to throw ourselves into.
One morning we hiked along the Mallorcan cliffs next to crystal clear waters, before wriggling into wetsuits and helmets and abseiling our way down towards the sea. I’d been certain that I was too nervous to tackle the abseil, but strangely I found an unexpected surge of confidence – so before I had a chance to back out, I was roped up and shimmying down the side of a cliff.

Once we reached the water, our guides surprised us with the exploration of an underground cave. Clinging onto guide ropes suspended in the water, we swam towards a tiny opening in the rocks then inched our way through waterlogged sand until we found ourselves inside a series of huge cathedral-like spaces, carved out naturally over thousands of years and filled to the brim with stalactites.
Whether it was kayaking at sunset, hiking across tiny islands to local lighthouses or simply diving into the ocean from the side of the boats, Pau ensured there was more than enough activity to build up our appetites.
Luxury dining at sea with our private chefs
After our land-and-water-based adventuring, we boarded the boats again for lunch. The amazing food throughout the week was rustled up by Javi and Cara, two chefs who achieved unbelievable culinary feats in the boat’s minuscule kitchen.
With each new meal I had a new appreciation for cooking at sea. We feasted on avocado toast and fresh fruit platters; tapas of pan con tomate, prosciutto, fresh anchovies, and dill-sprinkled smoked salmon; and my personal favourite was a huge seafood paella, accompanied by ice-cold jugs of freshly made gazpacho, which went down a treat.
Finding our balance
By the time each afternoon arrived we naturally gravitated to the prow, chatting and laughing as our boat moved effortlessly through the glass-like sea on its way to our next location for the night.
It was wonderful to realise that a group of people who’d usually revert to their laptops and editing software in their daily lives were actually choosing to relinquish their technological attachments and simply relax together!
But there’s a different energy when you’re on board a boat.
It’s too hot for make up or fancy outfits and there’s no space for pretentious attitudes: instead, you have bare skin and honest conversations with people you’ve only just met.

I suddenly found myself seeing my own body in a different light, too. I’ve gained a fair bit of grief-weight in the last year, and it was a bit startling to realise I didn’t look how I used to (especially in a bikini).
But bodies can surprise you. On a boat you’re suddenly behaving with pure instinct, reacting to the swells of unexpected waves and the slope of the deck. With no place to hide from my body’s true self on board, I was able to find gratitude for its incredible abilities which I too often take for granted, instead of raging against the things I can’t easily change.
Noticing the sensation of my tensed toes standing firm, grounding themselves against a bone-white boat hull, for instance. Or how I instinctively grasped a sail rope and curled my fingers around it without thinking.
I know next to nothing about boats, so accepting that I had no control while sailing through the sea was actually a well-timed lesson in humility.
I spend too much of my life trying to stay on top of things – but it’s something of a relief to occasionally relinquish all control, and pass that responsibility to someone else. For a while, it leaves you free to simply exist.
Why I loved sailing Mallorca’s seas
After a week at sea with InAdventures, I feel cleansed. Reinvigorated. Ready for the next challenge. Moreover, I think I have a new-found love of sailing – who’d have thought it?!
But I guess my current search for honesty and vulnerability made this trip the perfect place for me to be this summer: being out at sea, at one with nature, and enjoying the experience alongside a group of passionate travellers, too.

I’ve been back on dry land for over a week, but the ocean is still echoing in my ears. I can still feel my inner compass rocking, making my steps a little shaky on solid ground.
Perhaps I belong back on the boat?
