Spain just asked to adopt Basque, Catalan and Galician as official languages of the EU
The Government seeks to include the other languages that are official in the State of Spain, apart from Spanish, in the language regime of the European Union.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jose Manuel Albares, has officially requested today [Aug. 17 2023] on behalf of the Spanish Government, the inclusion of Basque, Catalan and Galician in the language regime of the European Union.
The minister has asked to change Regulation 1, which regulates the EU's language system, so that "the other languages that have an official statute besides Spanish" are also official in the European Union.
"Spain speaks Spanish, but also Catalan, Basque and Galician, and it is our duty to guarantee spaces to represent, use and learn about these languages," said Pedro Sanchez, acting president of Spain.

Let's not get our hopes high: the EU has to accept this request UNANIMOUSLY, so we gotta wait 🤞.

- 'Course it's edible! - Miyako huffed, prompting her elbow on the counter - I mean, they've been using the same recipe and selling it for almost three centuries, right? How wouldn't it be edible, Daisuke?
She then turned to Hawkmon, who was sitting on a stool right next to her.
- Tell him, Hawkmon, tell him it's edible.
"We...we haven't really tried it, but..."
Her eyes widened, challenging the poor digimon to finish his sentence.
"...But! There's nothing like Catalan cuisine! The strong flavors that melt in your mouth, I'm sure the xocolata is no different, Daisuke-san!"
- Exactly! And if you're in doubt, you can always give it to V-mon, the true chocolate connoisseur to try it! - Miyako now glanced at V-mon and suddenly her confidence in his unconditional love for chocolate began to waver - ...r-right?
i think that if the general aragonese population found out about the etymology of baturro (bato aka 'stupid' + urro which is a derogative suffix) they would try to explain it away with "well, we've reclaimed it now". but reclamation can only happen if you actually know the meaning of the word and how its used against you. or they would say that no one cares about the original meaning of the word anymore. because thats how much aragonese people (especially zaragozanos) hate ourselves

In Cádiz (Andalusia), Carnival festivities are a very popular cultural event every year because, besides costumes and dressing up, lots of people compete at the championships of chirigotas, cultural associations that play and sing, very often, songs with social and political messages.
This is the kids chirigota "Las hijas de Neptuno" [Neptune's duaghters], singing about our languages. A simple message that this future generation seems to get but that it's still controversial in Spain. Eskerrik asko to these little singers for the extra effort they made to learn their verses in our language!!
