"STRIKE OF JOBLESS' ENDED AS MORE RELIEF PROMISED," Toronto Star. September 16, 1933. Page 17. ---- Old Scale to Continue Two Weeks, Joint Meeting Agrees ---- LASTED FOUR DAYS ---- Special to The Star Penetang. Sept. 6. - A four-day strike of the unemployed in Penetang, ended yesterday afternoon fol- lowing a meeting of the disgruntled men with the relief committee.
Penetang unemployed have been utilized in caring for a municipal vegetable garden levelling off ground for a children's playground and in doing other minor jobs in exchange for relief. On Tuesday morning, following an unsuccessful appeal to the council for a more generous relief allowance, they refused to turn up to work. Relief vouchers were at first refused the strikers, but were later handed out when the men agreed to hold a meeting to talk things over.
After conferring with members of the relief committee for an hour, the men, at the conclusion of a short discussion, agreed by a vote of 151 to 1 to return to work under the old relief standard for two more weeks, at the end of which time an improvement is promised. Meanwhile, the relief committee pledges itself to give special consideration to the more needy cases.
Some families are receiving as little as $2.40 relief a week, and the men claim that they are receiving so little nourishment that they have not strength for heavy work. Relief officials, on the other hand, state the town is in such a poor financial condition that it cannot afford to give more.

My baby boy Pluto is NINE YEARS OLD NOW. He is considered a SENIOR CAT. It seems like YESTERDAY that he was teeny-tiny and I was rescuing him freezing from a puddle in Penetang, he can't be senior already! Honestly I don't like to think about it much because it breaks my brain a little. :P
But aside from the astomatosis, which is FULLY under control with his meds (unlike Kali's was), he is the picture of health and currently seems to be going through a second kittenhood, running around like an idiot and playing with blankets and my hands and kicking me until I "die" and then doing it all over again. (He goes through this every spring, tbh, just not to this extent, and it's adorable.)
Despite being MUCH more robust than Juna, Pluto is still VERY MUCH the beta kitty between them, though he does try his luck from time to time, and every time Juna smacks him down and puts him in his place again. He's a very submissive personality, to say the least. XD
I've still (hopefully) got a few years left with Pluto, and when he's gone you can bet I'll be going to the shelter to adopt at least one (probably two) more kitties. I can't imagine my life without them! <3

This all-Black team changed history — but the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame eludes them again
The All-Stars made Canadian history in 1934 when they defeated the Penetang Shipbuilders in the Provincial Ontario Baseball Amateur Association championship, yet the all-Black team again didn't make the cut to be inducted in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame.

Back in Cub Scouts, we camped somewhere close to Penetang once. After a night of bad behaviour, the leaders decided to drag us to a local church the next day. The joke was ultimately on them though as the service was francophone. This is that church overlooking Georgina Bay. • • • #penetanguishene #penetang #church #romancatholic #francophone #francoontarien #cubscouts #georgianbay #simcoecounty (at St. Ann’s Parish, Penetanguishene) https://www.instagram.com/p/CDrQDAugynd/?igshid=14vo3ombs1bxp

Pumpkin Inferno in Penetanguishene, Ontario
Every year for the month of October, Discovery Harbour in Penetanguishene, Ontario is turned into a wonderful Halloween display. Pumpkin Inferno is targeted towards families but people of all ages will enjoy the spooky fun.
The main attraction is, of course, the pumpkins. They are realistic (at least in the dark) looking Funkins – basically, a plastic or foam pumpkin that can be carved like a real one that will last the month (some are reused each year). Some of the displays are revisited each year, while others are brand new. 2016 was my first trip to this entertaining event, so it was all new to me! When I returned in 2017, about a quarter of the pumpkin displays were new.
There is also a haunted “Terror Zone” where brave souls can make their way through a haunted house scenario. It is restricted to children over the age of 12, adults of any age are also welcome.
New in 2017 was a pumpkin catapult (actually a trebuchet, for those who, like me, are picky about such things). Sadly, it was a very stormy night when I was there, so no pictures of flying pumpkins.
Since it gets a little chilly at night in October, halfway through the exhibits is a snack shack where you can stop to get some hot chocolate and other sweet treats. Hot chocolate was a perfect pick me up to warm us and keep us going through the evening.

Flooded Studios had an exciting opportunity to work on a tourism map for The Heart of Georgian Bay ( @heartofgbay), and we’re so excited to see this project go from concept to completion.  It’s been sent to the printers and should have physical copies soon.  Here are a few samples of the local attraction illustrations done for the map.
