It's all perfume.
On the topic of unnecessary gendering of products:
Did you know that the "men wear cologne, women wear perfume" convention is technically wrong? In the cosmetics world, it's all perfume. Then, based on concentration of perfume ingredients vs. alcohol (or other carrier material), it's a body splash, an eau de cologne, an eau de toilette, an eau de parfum, or other options. But "perfume" is the correct general term. Yes, males. You wear perfume. Hate to break it to you. But you can use the term "scent" or "fragrance" if you can't abide the word "perfume."
"Cologne," to add to the confusion, can also mean a specific style of perfume, named after the city in Germany, typically featuring a lot of citrus and herbal notes.

I don't like leather and don't like gourmands, but I can get behind this leather gourmand if we want to call it that. It's Dzing! by L'Artisan Parfumeur. It picks up the benzoin where Candy left off and takes the sweets to the circus. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you first spray it, you definitely get a blast of the barnyard and cotton candy mixed together, maybe you’re at a kid's birthday party at the petting zoo. The barnyard smell is thanks to castoreum but also hay which brings a sweetness. There's a bit of a skanky musk, a waxiness, and powdery sweet benzoin. Instead of a leather paired with florals, this is a leather paired with something yummier and it just works but it’s not for everyone. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It definitely smells dirty and sweet, but when I wear it I’m the topper on a cake, observing (and smelling) chaos without letting it bother me. #perfumeblog #perfumereview #perfumereviews #perfumebloggers #smellfie #perfumediary #perfumeblogger #nicheperfumelover #nichefragrance #springperfume #springperfumes #nicheperfumes #perfumista #scentoftheday #lartisanparfumeur #discontinuedproducts #vintagefragrance #vintageperfumebottles #vintagefragrances https://www.instagram.com/p/Co069y1rUA_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Gorgeously garish, indolic and narcotic, don’t go through life without ever having buried your face in a stargazer lily. Expect to battle dizzy butterflies and hummingbirds for the privilege.
Scent profile: Sherry cream sweet, unctuous and carrying a spice-camphor quality like that of clove.

I'm winding down for the evening and keeping it old school with Heritage by @guerlain with its peppery barbershop vibes. I always think this perfume is made for someone who enjoys fine whiskey and leathers. Absolutely elegant in a traditionally masculine way. Ahora vemos cómo las moléculas químicas modernas nos permiten vulnerar esta concepción y es posible,…. hi ieva!! do you have any tips on how to find a signature scent? :O
hi! i have Many Thoughts on signature fragrances, predictably.
a) i think having one 'signature fragrance' is overrated. searching for it before you have a well-developed nose and a good grip on your preferences will make you overspend and end up with a lot of full bottles of stuff you don't like as much as you initially thought you did.
b) the only way to know what you like is to try a lot of stuff and to do so mindfully. you have to learn how to identify what you're smelling and why you like it or not.
trying a lot of stuff gets expensive fast so i suggest buying sample packs directly from brands or from decant websites.
don't limit yourself to designer/mass-market brands or your perspective on perfumery will be very limited. try niche and indie perfumes and give scent oils a shot. these were what taught me most about scent; there's some really unique stuff going on with indie brands you can't really experience elsewhere.
read books about perfumery to help you understand what you're smelling. mandy aftel's fragrant and essence & alchemy, luca turin's guides, they're a good starting point.
you can also learn a lot from other perfume enthusiasts on fragrantica, on r/Indiemakeupandmore (for indie brand reviews) or on forums like bpal's review forum (and blogs like this one). whenever you try a perfume, look up others' reviews of it.
keep a record of which perfumes you enjoyed and which you didn't, and what notes they have in common. i do this with a spreadsheet, you can used a notebook or whatever you like.
c) don't write off the classic scents. they're classics for a reason. i'd feel safer calling shalimar or chanel no. 5 (gag. if i didn't hate it.) my signature scent than whatever the tiktok perfumistas are gushing about this year. if people haven't gotten bored of it in over a century, there's less of a chance you will too.
d) don't limit yourself to just one signature scent. i think it's foolish to expect a single perfume to be adequate for every occasion.
personally i have two 'signature scents' that are very similar to each other, so they create a cohesive vibe: guerlain's après l'ondée and l'heure bleue. a.l.o. is for daytime/spring/summer, l.h.b. is for eveningwear/fancier occasions/cold weather.
e) once you find the scent that makes you go 'that's it!', don't feel like that's all you're allowed to wear forever.
i wear my 'signatures scents' on special occasions, to create olfactive memories associated with them. on a day to day basis i'm much more likely to be wearing something else from my sample collection.
hope this helps! if you have any more questions about fragrance send them my way. good luck on your quest <3

Deixe-me derramar tudo a Ti! Porque eu te amo!".

Smelling like a princess today with Juliette Has a Gun Midnight Oud. Rose-out by way of rose-patchouli but with spiciness from saffron, and a bit of leathery birch tar. Starts off so strong, almost cough-inducing, but settles to a silk skin. I’ve been told that I wear this one well. #juliettehasagun #midnightoud #roseoud #rosepatchouli #smellfie #scentoftheday #perfumelovers #fragrancecollection #discontinuedperfume #perfumista #roseperfume #selfiemondays (at Calgary, Alberta) https://www.instagram.com/p/CibBC_5vSwf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

When you’re thinking of trying to jog a memory with scent, try to imagine the scent story of place to do it. If it’s just an impressionistic blend, certain notes can paint a “color” with their tone and texture, even if the note itself has nothing to do with the location of a memory. Different ingredients may share similar chemicals that are interpreted by the human nose as a common family of aromas, as well (i.e.., rhizomes.)
And of course, an impression is left of body and functional products used or experienced during the memory, as well as generational scent trends (popular scents you’d smell wafting from malls, amusement parks or in movie theaters.)
I mentioned an example of notes you’d probably appreciate if you like a “Florist cooler” blend. I can guess some things about your taste, just from that image.
You probably like white florals, even if you don’t think you do. The scent of chilled paperwhites, lilies, gardenias, roses and carnations evokes a florist’s cooler because in places where these aren’t native or able to be grown outdoors, they’d have to be imported and kept cool to keep from wilting.
If you grew up in a tropical region or spent some memorable vacations in warm places, your scent experience with white florals is likely quite different; you’re more likely to have smelled something riper and warmer, like coconut macerated Monoi oil (tiare), with a golden ripe warmth and indolic, white florals outdoors in sunshine (or more likely, seducing moths on balmy, dewy nights) than crisp from a cooler, waxes intact and oils made cold.
Evaluate all these influences, when trying to retrieve a memory with scent; place and all its qualities of flora, fauna, temperature and moisture level, era, functional and personal products used during that period. Even the dryer sheets your neighbor used can leave an impression on your memory.
