Canadian permanent residency
Tumblr media
Canada has ended the policy allowing visitors to apply for work permits while in the country. This change took effect on August 28, 2024. Previously, visitors could apply for work permits without leaving Canada, a rule in place since August 2020. The policy was set to last until February 2025 but was cut short by the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Policy Background
The policy aimed to help visitors stranded due to the pandemic. It allowed them to switch to work permits. Those who had worked in the past year but were now visitors could work legally while waiting for a new permit.
Reason for Ending the Policy
The IRCC cited the need to manage temporary resident numbers and protect the immigration system as reasons for the policy's end. They noted that some people were misusing the policy, misleading foreigners into working without proper permits.
Fighting Immigration Fraud
The policy's end is part of a larger fight against immigration fraud. Last year, 700 Indian students were found using fake acceptance letters to enter Canada. Many were unaware their letters were fake. Now, IRCC requires schools to check these letters within 10 days of an application. They are also capping the number of new international students for the next two years.
Changes to Temporary Workers
The policy's end comes amid a crackdown on temporary foreign workers. On August 26, 2024, the IRCC paused some applications for low-wage workers. This pause affects areas with high unemployment. New rules now limit the number of foreign workers to 10% of a company's staff and cut the work term from two years to one.
Rolling Back Pandemic Policies
These changes aim to reverse pandemic-era policies that eased hiring rules. During the pandemic, employers could hire more foreign workers and had longer LMIA validity. The IRCC and ESDC began rolling back these policies in May 2024. They also included temporary resident levels in the annual plan for the first time.
Future of Immigration in Canada
Immigration is now a key discussion point in Canada. The government aims to reduce temporary residents. Minister Marc Miller hinted at possible changes to permanent resident levels. The end of the visitor work permit policy shows the government's commitment to a fair immigration system. As Canada adapts to immigration challenges, these changes will significantly impact those wanting to live and work in the country. @immigrationvisa4uk-blog @immigrationnewsdigest @immigrationvisa @immigrationvisaaustralia @immigrationvisa4-blog @immigra @canadavisaconsultantsinhyde-blog @canadavisawithease-blog @canadavisaguide @canadavisapoint-blog @canadavisas-blog

Dreaming of relocating to a new country in pursuit of enhanced career prospects and a better quality of life? Australia might be the perfect destination for you! The General Skilled Migrant Visa (GSM) serves as a pathway for skilled professionals to establish permanent residency in Australia.
Step 1: Assess Your Eligibility
Before commencing the application process, it’s imperative to evaluate whether you fulfill the eligibility criteria for the GSM visa subclass. Key considerations include:
Occupation: Your occupation must be included in the relevant skilled occupation list, and regularly updated to reflect demand.
Skills Assessment: You’re required to undergo a skills assessment conducted by a pertinent assessing authority corresponding to your nominated occupation.
English Proficiency: Demonstrating proficient English language skills through tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, PTE Academic, or Cambridge (CAE).
Age: Typically, applicants must be under a specified age limit (often below 45) at the time of application.
Health and Character: Meeting health and character prerequisites, typically involving medical examinations and providing police clearance certificates.
Step 2: Express Interest (EOI) Submission
Once eligibility is confirmed, the subsequent step involves submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect, the Australian government’s online immigration platform. Within your EOI, you’ll furnish details pertaining to your skills, qualifications, work experience, and other pertinent information.
Step 3: Await Invitation to Apply (ITA)
Following EOI submission, you’ll enter a candidate pool where factors such as in-demand skills, higher English proficiency, and younger age enhance the likelihood of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for the GSM visa.
Step 4: Lodge Visa Application
Upon receiving an ITA, you’ll be allotted a specified timeframe to lodge your visa application. Ensure to compile all necessary documents including:
Identity Verification: Passport, birth certificate, and other pertinent identification documents.
Skills Assessment: Furnish results of your skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority.
English Language Proficiency: Submit your English language proficiency test results.
Employment Records: Detailed references from previous employers delineating job roles, responsibilities, and duration of employment.
Health and Character Certificates: Undertake medical examinations and procure police clearance certificates.
Financial Verification: Provide evidence of sufficient funds to support yourself and any accompanying family members during your initial tenure in Australia.
Step 5: Await Processing
Post-application submission, the Department of Home Affairs will process your application. Processing durations may vary based on factors such as application completeness, queue volume, and requisite additional checks.
Step 6: Provide Supplementary Information (if requested)
During application processing, you may be solicited for additional information or interview attendance. Prompt and accurate responses to immigration authorities’ requests are essential to mitigate processing delays.
Step 7: Receive Decision
Following a comprehensive assessment, you’ll receive a verdict on your visa application. If approved, you’ll be conferred a General Skilled Migrant Visa, facilitating permanent residency in Australia.
Step 8: Prepare for Relocation
Congratulations! Upon visa approval, commence preparations for your relocation to Australia, including:
Travel Arrangements: Arrange flights for you and your family members to Australia.
Temporary Accommodation: Organize temporary lodging for your initial stay in Australia.
Settlement Services: Research available services aiding newcomers in acclimatizing to life in Australia, such as job placement, schooling, and healthcare access.

Australia Permanent Residency
Tumblr media
Australia is a country of opportunity, but its excellence in the quality of life, almost breathtaking landscapes, and booming economy attract many people. Thousands change their minds yearly and decide to make Australia their permanent residence. Permanent Residency (PR) is the way if it is also your goal. Once you have PR status, you can live, work, and study anywhere in Australia, with many rights identical to the Australian citizen.
In this blog, we are going to explain how to obtain an Australian Permanent Residency- basically what options for visas are available, who is eligible to apply, and what are the advantages of having PR. Whether you're moving over for better job opportunities, education, or quality of life, this guide is a fresh and informative approach to how to begin your Australian adventure.
What is an Australian Permanent Residency?
Australian Permanent Residency (PR) gives you the right to stay permanently in Australia. Though it does not automatically confer citizenship, most of the benefits of being a citizen continue to be yours: for example, to work and for medical services provided by the state. After some time, you may even become a citizen.
What do you gain from having an Australian PR?
Live and Work: Remain in Australia without a time limit.
Healthcare: Australian Medicare, the nation's public health service.
Education: Eligibility to public-funded education and universities.
Family Sponsorship: Sponsor eligible family members who meet the requirements for permanent residence.
Social Security: In the future, you will be able to accumulate social security benefits
Travel: Travel in and out of Australia without restrictions for the first 5 years. After that, you can apply for a Resident Return Visa, if you wish.
Visa Options for Australian Permanent Residency
There are several ways you can achieve Australian PR. We will discuss some of the most popular visa options available that lead to permanent residency.
 1. Skilled Independent Visa (Subclass 189)
Skilled Independent Visa: This type of visa is for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer, a state, or any family member. This visa is governed through Australia's points-based immigration system and is one of the most precious visas because the holder can live and work anywhere in the country.
Points Test: Age, English skills, work experience, and education must have at least 65 points.
No Sponsorship Required: Fully independent—there is no need for a sponsor.
Occupation: Applicants occupation must be on Australia's Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
 2. Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
The Skilled Nominated Visa, subclass 190 is designed for applicants seeking sponsorship from a state or territory in Australia. Applicants agree to live and work in the nominating state or territory for at least the said period in exchange for the sponsorship.
Points-based: You have to still score at least 65 points.
Occupation List: The occupation has to be on the State Nominated Occupation List.
State Sponsorship: Up to an extra 5 points are awarded for nomination.
 3. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 491)
This visa gives you access to PR by living and working in regional Australia. There is access to the subclass 491 visa by getting a regional state or family sponsor, and after you meet the conditions prescribed, you can remain as PR.
Temporary to Permanent: Applicant, who has already been on the 491 visa for three years, then can apply for a Subclass 191 permanent visa.
Regional Sponsorship: You are required to live and work in a designated regional area.
Additional Points: The 491 visa provides you with 15 more points.
 4. Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186)
The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) allows the employers of Australia to sponsor skilled people for permanent residence in Australia.
Employer Sponsorship: You will be expected to obtain an offer of employment by an employer in Australia
Eligibility: You are expected to meet specific qualifications, competencies, and proficiency in the English language.
5. Business Innovation and Investment Visa (Subclass 188/888)
The Business Innovation and Investment Visa provides a route to permanent residency for entrepreneurs and investors willing to invest or start a business in Australia.
Stream - Business or Investment: High net worth individuals and entrepreneurs
Temp to PR: Starts with temporary visa status, 188 then converts to PR status, 888.
In general, all applicants for Australian PR need to meet the general eligibility criteria, regardless of the subclass of visa they would like to apply under. Factors to consider are:
1.  Age
Most skilled visas require that the applicant must be under 45 years to apply, although exceptions do exist, in most cases such as business visas, where the limitation is a little more relaxed.
2.  Occupation
It must be part of the proper Skilled Occupation List (SOL) or the Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL). In other words, your skills are in demand in Australia
 3. Points Test
It is a points-based system in Australia, and applicants have to score at least 65 points for eligibility. Several factors determine how points are awarded:
Age: Applicants in the age group 25 to 32 will receive the maximum marks.
English proficiency: Higher scores on the IELTS or PTE test mean more points.
Work experience: Both within Australia as well as overseas, skilled work experience provides points.
Education: Quota to both the bachelor and higher degree qualifications received from Australian institutions add points.
State sponsorship: Generally, Australian state or territory nomination will add points to the application.
4. English Proficiency
You must prove your English language proficiency through the test result of IELTS, PTE, or TOEFL.
5. Skills Assessment
You will most likely face Australian skills assessment in your profession by the relevant skills assessment body from Australia for most visa categories.
Australia PR Step-by-Step Process
1. Skill Assessment
You have to apply your qualifications and work experience through the relevant authority for a skills assessment. This would ensure your qualification is checked against Australian standards.
2. Take an English Test
All candidates need to take one of the recognized English language qualifications such as IELTS or PTE and obtain at least the minimum level required to gain sufficient points.
3. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
You submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) to SkillSelect after finishing your English and skills testing. In Australia, an EOI is a formal way of showing interest in migrating to Australia. It is based on the points you collect.
 4. Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA)
If your EOI scores highly because of your points score, then you'll be granted an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for a PR visa. You've got only 60 days to lodge your visa application after receiving the invitation.
 5. Lodge Your Visa Application
Once you receive the ITA, you'll be able to lodge your visa application officially via ImmiAccount, Australia's official immigration portal. Applicants need to attach the following mentioned documents:
Passport and identification
Skills assessment results
Results of the English test
Police certificates and medical reports
6. Medical and Character Checks
Applicants for permanent residence all have to undergo medical tests, and from every country where he/she stayed in a country for 12 months or more within the past 10 years, police clearance certificates have to be submitted
7. Visa Decision
You'll need to wait for a decision after submitting your application. It can take between six and twelve months to process a visa, depending on the subclass.
Australian Permanent Residency can be very complex; however, with preparation and knowledge about the process, it can become a reachable goal. From choosing the correct visa to eligibility criteria, and submitting the application this step-by-step guide will help you embark on this journey confidently.
Australia is a land of great opportunity, and PR is the first step in building life within one of the world's most desirable countries. Esse India Immigration is pleased to inform you about the latest updates in Canada's Express Entry system, a key pathway for obtaining Canadian permanent residency. Recently, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3,300 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) during the second Express Entry draw of the week.
To qualify for this round, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 507. This draw followed a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-only draw, where 1,121 candidates were invited with a minimum CRS score of 694. The BC PNP is one of the popular provincial nominee programs under Express Entry.
Earlier in August, IRCC held multiple Express Entry draws. On August 15, a category-based selection draw targeted French-speaking candidates, while on August 14, 3,200 Canadian Experience Class candidates were invited with a minimum score of 509. The draw on August 13 focused on PNP candidates, inviting 763 individuals with a minimum score of 690.
IRCC has established a pattern of holding multiple Express Entry draws every other week, with a heightened focus on PNP and CEC candidates. This is aligned with the department's goal to reduce the number of temporary residents in Canada while working towards meeting the permanent resident admissions targets outlined in the Immigration Levels Plan for 2024-2026.
Looking ahead, IRCC plans to welcome 110,770 newcomers through Express Entry in 2024 and 117,500 in 2025. Candidates receiving ITAs in the latter half of 2024 are likely to contribute to meeting the 2025 targets, as IRCC maintains a service standard of six months for processing finalized Express Entry applications.
Understanding Express Entry
Express Entry is Canada's application management system for three key economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class. Candidates in these programs are evaluated and ranked based on human capital factors using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Factors include occupation, work experience, age, education, language proficiency, and additional criteria like a spouse's qualifications or having a sibling in Canada. The combined score makes up the overall CRS score, and those with the highest scores are most likely to receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residency.
In May 2023, IRCC announced the introduction of category-based rounds of invitations for Express Entry candidates who meet specific criteria, such as occupation or language abilities, which could align with Canada’s Global Talent Stream.
Australian PR Process
While Canada remains a popular destination, many individuals are also interested in the Australia PR process. Australia’s permanent residency process, or Australia PR procedure, involves several steps, including submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect, meeting the eligibility requirements, and obtaining the necessary points based on factors like age, work experience, and education. The PR process for Australia from India is similar, with specific requirements tailored to Indian applicants.
At Esse India Immigration, our expert Canada immigration consultants are well-versed in the Canadian PR process, including understanding the Canadian permanent residency requirements and navigating the Global Talent Stream. Additionally, we offer guidance on the Australia PR process, ensuring that you receive comprehensive support whether you're aiming for permanent residency in Canada or Australia. With its high standard of living, excellent healthcare, and strong economy, it’s no surprise that many people are eager to secure an Australia PR Visa and gain Australian Permanent Residence. This article will guide you through the process of obtaining this visa and outline the numerous benefits of becoming a permanent resident in Australia.
What is an Australia PR Visa?
An Australia PR Visa is a visa that grants non-citizens the right to live, work, and study in Australia on a permanent basis. Once granted, holders of this visa enjoy the same rights as Australian citizens, except for the right to vote or hold a passport. After holding an Australian Permanent Residence visa for a few years, individuals may also become eligible to apply for Australian citizenship.
Eligibility Criteria
To apply for an Australia PR Visa, you must meet certain eligibility criteria. These criteria vary depending on the type of PR visa you are applying for, but common requirements include:
Points-Based System: Australia uses a points-based system to assess eligibility for skilled migration. Points are awarded based on factors such as age, education, work experience, and English language proficiency.
Skills Assessment: Applicants must have their skills assessed by a relevant Australian authority to ensure they meet the necessary standards for their occupation.
Health and Character Requirements: All applicants must pass health examinations and provide police clearances to prove they meet Australia’s health and character requirements.
Benefits of Australian Permanent Residence
Holding an Australia PR Visa offers numerous advantages:
Live and Work Anywhere in Australia: Permanent residents have the freedom to live and work in any part of Australia, whether it’s the bustling cities or the serene countryside.
Access to Healthcare: Permanent residents can access Australia’s public healthcare system, Medicare, which provides comprehensive medical services at little or no cost.
Educational Opportunities: Children of Australian Permanent Residence holders have access to Australia’s world-class education system, including public schools and universities at lower tuition rates.
Social Security Benefits: After two years as a permanent resident, you may be eligible for certain social security benefits, including unemployment and sickness allowances.
Pathway to Citizenship: After living in Australia for four years as a permanent resident, you may be eligible to apply for Australian citizenship, giving you the right to vote and an Australian passport.
How to Apply for an Australia PR Visa
The application process for an Australia PR Visa involves several steps:
Choose the Right Visa: There are several types of PR visas, including the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189), Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190), and Family-Sponsored Visas. Research which visa best suits your circumstances.
Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI): Before applying for a skilled migration visa, you must submit an EOI through the SkillSelect system. This online system allows the Australian government to assess your eligibility.
Invitation to Apply: If your EOI is successful, you will receive an invitation to apply for the visa. You must submit your application within 60 days of receiving the invitation.
Lodge Your Application: Complete your application by providing all required documents, including proof of identity, skills assessment results, and health examinations.
Wait for Approval: The processing time for an Australia PR Visa varies depending on the visa subclass and individual circumstances. Once approved, you will be granted Australian Permanent Residence.
Conclusion
Obtaining an Australia PR Visa is a significant step towards building a secure and prosperous future in Australia. Australia, renowned for its vibrant cities, high standard of living, and vast opportunities, is a coveted destination for many looking to build a new life. Two of the primary visa options for skilled workers seeking to move to Australia are the General Skilled Migration (GSM) visa and the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa. Both have unique benefits and requirements, making them suitable for different circumstances and career plans. This guide provides an in-depth comparison of these two visas, helping you decide which is the best pathway for your Australian journey.
General Skilled Migration (GSM) Visa
The General Skilled Migration (GSM) program is designed for skilled workers who are not sponsored by an employer but possess skills in demand in the Australian labor market. It includes several visa subclasses, with the most common being:
Subclass 189 (Skilled Independent Visa): This visa does not require a sponsor and is based on points.
Subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated Visa): This visa requires a nomination from an Australian state or territory government.
Subclass 491 (Skilled Work Regional Visa): This visa is for skilled workers who want to live and work in regional Australia
Eligibility Requirements
Skills Assessment: Applicants must undergo a skills assessment through a relevant assessing authority for their occupation.
Points Test: A minimum score of 65 points is required, based on factors such as age, English language proficiency, work experience, and education.
Occupation List: The applicant’s occupation must be on the relevant Skilled Occupation List.
Health and Character Requirements: Applicants must meet health and character requirements set by the Australian government.
Age Limit: Generally, applicants must be under 45 years of age.
Application Process Benefits
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, also known as the Subclass 482 visa, is designed to address labor shortages by allowing employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas. The TSS visa is divided into three streams:
Short-Term Stream: For occupations listed on the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), valid for up to two years (or four years if an International Trade Obligation applies).
Medium-Term Stream: For occupations listed on the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), valid for up to four years and provides a pathway to permanent residency.
Labour Agreement Stream: For workers nominated under a labor agreement with the Australian government.
Eligibility Requirements
Sponsorship: Applicants must be sponsored by an approved Australian employer.
Nomination: The employer must nominate the applicant for an occupation on the relevant occupation list.
Skills and Experience: The applicant must have the skills and experience required for the nominated position.
English Language Proficiency: Depending on the stream, applicants must meet specific English language requirements.
Health and Character Requirements: Similar to the GSM visa, applicants must meet health and character requirements.

Construction Workers in the GTA Seeking Pathway to Permanent Residency: A Comprehensive Update
Tumblr media
The Government of Canada has extended the deadline for out-of-status construction workers in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) to apply for permanent residency. This initiative, part of a pilot program aimed at addressing labor shortages, offers undocumented workers an opportunity to regularize their status while securing permanent residency in Canada.
Background and Purpose
First introduced in 2019, the program was launched in collaboration with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) and industry stakeholders. Its primary goal is to help out-of-status workers who have been contributing to the economy despite lacking legal status. These workers often face challenges navigating Canada’s complex immigration system, and the program provides them with a pathway to Canadian permanent residency.
This initiative aligns with Canada's broader immigration goals by supporting essential workers while addressing labor gaps in the construction sector. The program is a valuable resource for out-of-status workers, many of whom have been part of their communities for years and are integral to the local economy.
Key Eligibility Requirements
The program is designed for construction workers in the GTA who meet specific criteria, such as:
Significant work experience in the construction industry.
Current out-of-status immigration status due to overstaying a visa or permit.
Proven employment history in construction-related occupations.
Eligible applicants who meet these conditions can apply for Canadian permanent residency, which offers stability and security while allowing them to continue contributing legally to the workforce.
Addressing Labor Shortages and Stabilizing the Industry
The construction industry in the GTA has long faced labor shortages, with employers struggling to find skilled workers. This pilot program, by providing permanent residency, helps fill these gaps and stabilizes the labor market. It also offers out-of-status workers legal protections and rights they previously lacked.
Application Process and Extended Deadline
Applicants must collaborate with the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) to verify their employment history and navigate the application process. The newly extended deadline allows more time for eligible workers to gather necessary documentation and submit their applications, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Broader Implications and Future Outlook
The extension of this program underscores Canada’s commitment to a balanced immigration strategy that prioritizes economic needs while recognizing the human element. The pathway to permanent residency through this initiative not only supports the construction sector but also integrates workers into Canadian society in a way that aligns with national values and immigration policies.
For those seeking more information on Canadian immigration and programs, Canada PR consultants, visa consultancy services, and pathways for global talent, this program is an excellent example of how opportunities are evolving. Whether through the Global Talent Stream Canada, Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs), or skilled immigration pathways like the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC), there are multiple ways to achieve Canadian permanent residency.
Conclusion
The extended deadline is a positive development for out-of-status construction workers, offering them a second chance at securing a future in Canada. As Canada continues to prioritize skilled immigration, this program reflects a compassionate and practical approach that benefits workers, employers, and society as a whole.
