Feeling nostalgic, remembering warm fall mornings, laying on the carpet reading, as my dad played old vinyl records. Peter, Paul, and Mary were my favorite.
The song “Hangman” by Peter, Paul and Mary reminds me of Peeta. It’s about a man who’s about to be hanged and hopes for his family to help set him free. But neither his father, mother or brother does. Only his “true love” at the end doesn’t want him to die and sets him free. And I can’t help but make the connection between Peeta’s relations with his family, his distant dad and brothers and his abusive mom, and Katniss being the one who cares the most for him and is ready to sacrifice herself for him to live.
Slack your rope hangman, slack it for a while I think I see my father comin' ridin' many a mile Father have you brought me hope or have you paid my fee Or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree ?
I have not brought you hope, I have not paid your fee Yes I have come to see you hangin' from the gallows tree.
Slack your rope hangman, slack it for a while I think I see my mother comin' ridin' many a mile Mother have you brought me hope or have you paid my fee Or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree ?
I have not brought you hope, I have not paid your fee Yes I have come to see you hangin' from the gallows tree.
Slack your rope hangman, slack it for a while I think I see my brother comin' ridin' many a mile Brother have you brought me hope or have you paid my fee Or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree ?
I have not brought you hope, I have not paid your fee Yes I have come to see you hangin' from the gallows tree.
Slack your rope hangman, slack it for a while I think I see my true love comin' riding' many a mile True love have you brought me hope or have you paid my fee Or have you come to see me hangin' from the gallows tree ?
Yes I have brought you hope, yes I have paid your fee For I've not come to see you hangin' from the gallows tree.
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
How many times can a man turn his head
And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
How many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the Wind ~ ~ ~ ~
