Guide to Galar: Predictions & Theories! (also a quick guide to British mythology?)

I’m hella stoked to see Britain get portrayed in a pokemon game and watching the trailer I was thrilled to see so many cultural landmarks!

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but I wanted to make a quick guide based on the information we have to far guessing what the locations are going to based on (and maybe even some guesses about the games story?).

So, starting from the bottom of the map!

Looks like we’re going to be starting off in a small rural town surrounded by a patchwork of field (no shortage of those in Britain), with an island on the left and a big forest on the right.

The river running through the town interests me because there’s an island in the lake. Given the games will be called ‘Sword and Shield’, I’m thinking there might be some mythology based on the ‘Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table’.

The game might start with something inspired by the Arthurian mythos, such as the Lady of the Lake (who lives on an mystical island the the middle of a lake, called Avalon) and Excalibur. There are several lakes in Britain (particularly in Wales and the South-West) associated with these myths, such as Dozmary Pool (Cornwall).

As for the Islands on the left, there are several small islands surrounding Britain, like the Isle of Man, and Isle of Wight (there are also many Scottish ones!). There’s not much visual info to go off at the moment so it’s difficult to say at this point.

As for the forest, there are several forests throughout the countries, so again, based on limited information it’s difficult to say.

However (if the Arthur theory is correct) it could be based on the mythical forest of Broceliande. Alternatively it could be like Sherwood Forest (Nottinghamshire), famously associated with the legend of Robin Hood. Other famous British Forest include the New Forest (Hampshire/Wiltshire), Thetford (Norfolk/Suffolk) and Galloway Forrest (Scotland).

Moving on!

Okay so I’m  c o n v i n c e d  this region of the map is based on the Peak District and the Lake District.

The Peak district is a national park in the north of England -  characterised by its highlands and hilly/mountainous areas. The Lake District (have a lucky guess what that’s famous for), is a national park located in Cumbria.

Between these two regions there also appears to be a large stone of some kind. I can’t think of an exact match for this, but it could be inspired by the various Tors (big natural rock formations),which there’re particularly a lot in Devon and Cornwall). Alternatively it could be a formation such as the Old Man of Storr or a man-made formations like the ancient Orkney Standing Stones (both in Scotland).

On to the Middlands (kinda?)

So next we have a big city! The most obvious guess would be London, and that is highly likely given the focal point is a big-ass clock-tower, like Big Ben (aka Elizabeth Tower). The shape and the fact the river runs around it is also reminiscent of the Tower of London!

Although, I can’t hep but feel like the architecture looks very ‘industrial-revolution-esque’, particularly with all the red-brick. This makes me think of cities like Birmingham and Manchester. So maybe some mixed influences here?

To the left of this city, appears to be a rocky area, which I think could have been inspired by Cheddar Gorge - most famous for cheese!

Its also famous for a legend about a witch!

Wookey Hole, a cave located in Cheddar Gorge, had a creepy looking stalagmite inside, which local folklore says is the remains of a petrified Witch. It does look like there might be a cave on the map, so I really hope this theory turns out to be correct! (I <3 witches)

There is also a town surrounded by yellow fields, which I guess are either wheat or oil seed rape (unfortunate name, i know).

This also appears to be the location of this thing:

So, this is based on the various ‘Hill Figures’ which are found in several locations around the UK. Horses and men are among the most common images. This practise is believed to date back to ancient times, however the only ones visible, that have survived until today, are only a few hundred years old.

(’Rube Man’ or the Cerne Abbas, in Dorset. believed to date back to around the 17th Century.)

True British heritage is carving a giant man with his dick-out into the side of a hill and I think that’s beautiful.

Moving on, to the right of the city looks like a valley with a railway-line running through it. This could be based on the Glenfinnan Viaduct, located on the West Highland Line (Scotalnd). This was the bridge they use for the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter movies! 

There is some more stuff on the left, which looks like a valley or field and a seaside town, but its difficult to make out the details so it could be anywhere.

Moving on...

Sweet, another city! Although its not immediately obvious to me what this one is based on. It looks very industrial so maybe Birmingham or Manchester - or even Edinburgh. Honestly this one has stumped me a little bit, so I’ll just wait for a bit more info on this one!

To the left it looks like this might be where the mines are!

Britain used to have a big mining culture, especially in certain regions (e.g. the North of England, Wales and Scotland). Many closed in the 1970s, so there only a handful still in operation today and they have now been largely industrialised with machinery. 

Most mines in the UK are/were for fossil fuels or metals, rather than gems, but I don’t blame Pokemon for making that amendment!

(This is a copper mine in Anglesey, Wales - which i think vaguely could resemble the one on the map). 

Behind the mines (or what i think are the mines) looks like another forest, so I’m going to keep the same guesses as I had for the other one.

On the right, there’s a hilly coastal area, with a building on it. Maybe its a coastal ruin of a castle like, Tintagel (Cornwall) or Hastings (Sussex), although its hard to make out so that’s just a guess.

Above that, it look like a snowy, inlet-y coastal town! Very reminiscent of the island-y areas of Scotland! Maybe somewhere like Stornoway...

Now that big wall and the rock next to it that looks suspiciously like a volcano! Britain has no active volcano’s, but does have several dormant ones, particularly in Scotaland.

The one on the map looks a bit like it could be Arthur's Seat, a volcano located close to Edinburgh (possibly supporting that the city next to it is meant to be Edinburgh) .Back to Arthurian mythology again; the mountain range is one of the suggested locations of the legendary kingdom of Camelot! 

On the map, its unclear if the wall is part of the volcano/mountain range, or if its a wall in its own right.

It could represent Hadrian’s Wall, built by the Roman’s in 124 AD, (to keep the Scots out of England/Britannia!). The wall is a lot shallower then the one on the Galar map though, and it doesn’t really look like it, but it could still be the inspiration.

Okay last section!

So this entire top area is very snowy and mountain-y. I think its safe to say this is mostly inspired by Scotland, which is usually a lot colder and has rougher terrain than down south in England (they call them the ‘highlands for a good reason’). 

Britain’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis is located in Scotland, as well as several other mountain ranges. Inspiration could have also been taken from the mountains of Snowdonia, in Wales.

As for the city itself, it looks like its going to be a very important (probs where the champion league equivalent will be), but I can’t confidently identify any recognisable landmarks on the picture.

There looks like another smaller Big Ben-inspired building to the side, but the central feature is tall spiral tower, which I don’t recognise (the closest thing  I can think of is the Orbit Tower - from the London 2012 Olympics - although I’m not entirely convince this is what it’s meant to be...).

Well that’s about all we have to go off for now!

Sorry if this was a bit rambley, I just got so excited to see that they're representing so many different places! Sometimes I feel like Britain just gets reduced to London - which is a shame because the natural landscape of the isles are so varied and rich with culture and folklore!

I really hope Sword and Shield take lots of inspiration from the myths. I would love it if the King Arthur inspired story turned out to be true!

Anyway, I guess we’l just have to wait and see~

The Last Summer ch. 4

“Omg. Gigi what’s wrong?!”

“I- I was supposed to s-start my period last weeks, b-but I didn’t.” Gigi stuttered through tears.

“Sh—schnitzel.” Maya looked at Gigi.

“I-I don’t know what to do. I’m freaking out. What if I’m pregnant?”

“Gigi, it’s okay. I was in your shoes like 6 months ago. We’ll just walk to the closest gas station and buy a pregnancy test.” Kayla hugged Gigi, “It’s going to be okay, I promise.”

All the girls looked at another completely confused and shocked. What had Kayla meant by she had been in Gigi’s shoes before? Kayla seemed to not even notice what she had said, so the girls just let it slip.

“Okay I googled it and it says the nearest gas station is 3 miles away. You’ve got to be kidding me.” Groaned Eleanor.

“Freaking Harry didn’t leave the keys in the admission.” Alyssa pointed towards the front of the RV.

“I love that buy but sometimes he’s just plain stupid.” Kayla rolled her eyes.

“Well we better get walking if we want to make it back before the boys get home.”

All the girls jumped out of the RV and started heading towards the nearest gas station.

“Hey girls were b— ummm where are the girls?” Niall asked sounded concerned.

“What do you mean? They aren’t in there?”

“Harry, I’m pretty sure I’m not blind. They aren’t in here.”

“Someone call them”

“I tried, it goes straight to voicemail.” Liam layed his phone in the counter.

“Lovely. We are in the middle of no where and the girls are missing.” Zayn grumbled.

“Which one should I get? I’ve never bought a pre—“buy this one. It will give you the quickest results.” “Thanks Kayla.” Gigi looked around the other girls with a confused look on her face.

“Alright guys I’m going to go take this really quick.”

“Good luck”

While they were waiting for her, Alyssa found the ice cream aisle.

“Ohhh we should get ice cream and make ice cream sundaes.”

“Alyssa you’re a genius. We’re doing it.” Maya cheered.

So the girls gathered vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, sprinkles, and cool whip.

“This is making me hungry.” Eleanor licked her lips.

As the girls walked back towards the bathroom Gigi approached them.

“Well????” Kayla asked.

“It was negative.”

“Oh thank gosh” Alyssa breathed out.

“My reaction exactly.” Gigi smiled at Alyssa.

“Well since you aren’t preggers let’s head back to the RV.” Maya walked away leading the pack.

“I’ve literally been trying to call them for 2 hours and they still aren’t here. Should I start driving and see if we can find them?”

“I honestly don’t know at this point. I just really hope nothing happened to th—“ Niall turned his head towards the door as all of the girls pile in the RV.

“Where have you been?! We’ve been worried sick!” Harry looked Kayla in the eyes.

She quickly looked at Gigi as she bit her lip.

“Umm we got hungry after the movie so we walked to a gas station.”

“Oh what movie did you watch?” Liam asked.

All the girls looked between each other and didn’t know how to respond.

“We don’t remember the name of it.” Alyssa looked anywhere but at the boys.

The boys seemed content with that answer and went on with talking. All the girls sat on one couch and didn’t say a thing for literally 3 hours.

“Ok that’s it. What the freak is wrong with you girls? You haven’t said a thing. I know something is up.” Louis raised his voice.

“Wewenttothegasstationbecauseihadtogetapregnancytestbecauseithoughtiwaspregnant.”

“Woah Gigi slow down. What was that?”

Gigi took a huge breath of air, “I thought I was pregnant so we went to the gas station to get a test. It came back negative though.”

“WHAT” Zayn jumped out of his seat.

Everybody was in complete shock at what was happening right before their eyes.

“I think I’m going to pull over into this campsite up the road and let you guys have some privacy.”

As Harry turned into the parking lot of the camping site everyone was dead silent. You could probably cut the awkwardness with a knife. Everyone was just looking around at each other. As the bus rolled to a hault everyone jump out of the bus.

“Zayn and I are going to go walk over to the picnic tables and talk”

As Zayn and Gigi walked away that left the rest of the group standing by the RV stretching their legs.

After 5 minutes had passed and nothing was said, Alyssa had a very important question to ask.

“Kayla, what did you mean by what you said earlier?”

“What’d I say?”

By this point everyone was intrigued by what the two girls were discussing.

“When Gigi was freaking out earlier, you told her you were in her shoes 6 months ago.”

Kayla’s faces paled along with Harry’s.

“I umm I—“ Kayla looked towards Harry and instantly knew he was pissed.

“I can’t believe you told them!” Harry raised his voice.

“I’m sorry. I don’t even remember saying it.”

“Saying what?! What exactly did you mean by that?!” Alyssa hollered.

She already knew what she had meant but she wanted to hear it from Kayla.

“Okay. Fine. 6 months ago I found out I was pregnant. I told Harry and we were honestly petrified. We didn’t know what to do. When I was 8 weeks along I lost the baby due to stress. We didn’t say anything because it was a tough situation. I’m still not over it and probably won’t ever be. There are you happy now?!” At this point Kayla had huge tears rolling down her cheeks. She has screamed everything so loud that even Zayn and Gigi heard it.

“Kayla I’m sorry I shouldn’t have men—“ “yeah you shouldn’t have, but here we are” Kayla stormed off into the woods.

Harry now has tears falling down his cheeks too. They were a mix and angry and sad tears. He was angry that Kayla had slipped up, but also sad that Alyssa had brought it up. Even though they were young they were excited to be parents. Having that ripped away sucks and hurts like heck.

“Harry are you okay mate?” Liam walked towards Harry.

“Yeah I just want some alone time. Someone go after Kayla and when you get her being her back so we can leave.” Harry turned towards the RV with no emotion on his face.

“I got her. I should apologize anyway.” Alyssa ran towards where Kayla had been just seconds earlier. After running for maybe 2 minutes, Alyssa found Kayla sitting on the ground up against a tree with her knees pulled into her chest.

“Hey.” Alyssa mumbled as she plopped on the ground next to her best friend, “ I’m really sorry for bringing it back up. I was just confused. Also, I’m sorry I acted like such a butthole over it. It just shocked me that you guys, you know.... did it and didn’t tell me. And the fact you were pregnant and didn’t tell me. It just kinda hurt my feelings.”

“I didn’t tell you because I felt like a failure. I went to thereapy for awhile because I felt like it was my fault that I lost the baby, but I now know it wasn’t my fault. And the reason I didn’t tell you we slept together, was because you didn’t tell me when you and Niall first had.”

“Well you see, that’s because Niall and I haven’t yet.” Alyssa replies sheepishly stairing at the ground.

“Oh I didn’t realize that. There’s no reason to be ashamed of that. I think it’s great you aren’t moving fast. I just figured since you’ve been dating for so long you had.”

“Is it weird that we haven’t?”

“Is it not normally heard of? Yes. But is it weird? No. There’s no reason to rush into things. I’m proud of you for waiting.”

“Thanks Kayla.” Alyssa smiled, “ I’m sorry for pressuring you into talking about something you weren’t ready for.”

“ it’s okay. I honestly feel better getting it off my chest.”

“Well I’m glad,” Alyssa pulled Kayla into a hug. “I love you. I hope you know that.”

“I love you too boo”

The girls helped each other up and headed back to the RV. Once getting in you could cut the tension with a knife.

Harry was sitting up in the front by himself staring at the window. He through into drive without even waiting is Kayla was sitting down and sped off. Kayla would have fallen over if Louis hadn’t reached out and grabbed her to stabilize her.

“Thanks Lou.”

As everyone was sitting in silence, Alyssa walked up to Niall, “Can I talk to you in the back bedroom?”

“Yeah of course.”

They walked to the back and closed the door.

“Niall, do you want to sleep with me?”

“Woah. You waste no time. Where’s this coming from?”

“I don’t know. I just don’t want you to get bored of me.”

“Get bored of you?! Babe come here.” Niall slaps is leg.

Niall wraps his arms around Alyssa, “Alyssa Forrest, you are the love of my life. I could never get bored of you. When I look at you, even after almost 3 years of dating, I get butterflies. I have memorized the way you snore when you sleep, how you talk too fast when you get nervous, and how you bite your lip when you want me to kiss you. I’ll never get bored of you. I love you too much.”

Alyssa smiles at Niall, “ I love you too Ni. That’s exactly what I needed to hear.”

“I’m not pressuring you into something you aren’t ready for. When you’re really ready I’m ready, but right now I don’t think we are. Let’s take it slow. There’s no reason to rush into something that we will be able to do our whole lives. Okay princess?”

“Okay” Alyssa snuggled into the crook of Nialls neck.

As they walked out into the main area the awkwardness was definitely still thick. But Alyssa’s heart felt peace now that her and Niall were on the same page.

Yo okay so I had to do a project on the Petrified Forrest in 8th grade, and let me tell you heathens something.

Petrified wood is fucking cool. So cool, in fact, that a lot of people steal pieces from the park.

And apparently, this single action can curse you so fucking badly that it is extremely common for the park to get petrified wood mailed back to them. So common, in fact, that they have a wood pile dedicated to it.

They also have a shitload of letters people wrote to then basically saying how shitty their life became and how they are so so super sorry.

So today's lesson, don't steal petrified wood. It'll curse you.

Shocking Moment Missouri Driver Tackles Woman In Road Rage Incident

The moment an out-of-control man tackled a woman and nearly ran over her in a road rage dispute has been caught on surveillance camera.

Police in Arnold, Missouri is seeking 50-year-old Scott F. Heatherly, whom they say is the suspect caught on camera, in connection with the assault Friday in a Walgreens parking lot.

A police spokesman told DailyMail.com late Wednesday that Heatherly had not yet surrendered to authorities as his family had previously said he would. ‘We don’t expect him to surrender this evening,’ the spokesman said.

Heatherly has already been charged in absentia with assault and two counts of property damage, and has been ordered held pending bail of $50,000 when he is taken into custody, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The shocking incident unfolded on Friday evening at about 5.30pm on the southern outskirts of St. Louis, when a female driver saw a dark pickup truck tailgating her on Interstate 55 and flashing its lights.

Surveillance video of the incident shows the pickup driver exiting his vehicle and kicking the woman’s car multiple times.

She reported that he was screaming about her throwing something out of her car on the interstate, but said she had no idea what he was talking about.

When he returned to his truck, the woman is seen getting out of her car to take a picture of his license plate.

Suddenly, he jumps out and charges at her, tackling her to the ground.

Snatching her cell phone, he hurls it off into the parking lot and stomps back to his car.

He then snatches her cell phone and hurls it across the parking lot, damaging the device

As the Good Samaritans surround the pickup truck attempting to prevent it from leaving, the suspect guns the engine and pulls out, nearly striking several people

Shaken, the woman stands up and goes to retrieve her phone, as several bystanders who witnessed the attack rush over – including one off-duty Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy.

The shaken victim was left with scraped hands and knees in the assault, and her phone was damaged.

‘She’s afraid to go outside,’ Arnold Police Lieutenant James Jones told the Post-Dispatch. ‘She’s still shaken up and scared.’

The suspect Heatherly has prior convictions for assault, domestic assault, endangering the welfare of a child and violating an order of protection.

He lives less than a mile from where the attack took place, on the 3800 block of Petrified Forrest Drive.

Can’t believe today is only our second day of our road trip. We started at Grand Canyon, then Winslow Arizona, then The Petrified Forrest and The Painted Desert and we’re still going... but by far this mornings sunrise at Grand Canyon when @joe.paradiso proposed to our beautiful baby girl @cierrafiore was a completely wonderful perfectly amazing memory we will never forget. We love you both and can’t wait to be on this amazing journey with you. I adore my family.
