this is to me one of the stamps of all time bc it was made in 1980 and they decided to portray like this a man who lived between 1846 and 1900. it's the perfect example of how depictions of history can be a reflection of the time they were created in. this is extremely a 1980 idea of a dude who rocks. and it was done by thee national postal service

This block of four was a joint issue between the U.S Postal Service and the Soviet Union’s Ministry of Posts. The issue focused worldwide attention on marine mammals inhabiting the earth’s oceans. The historic issue is an example of the U.S. and the Soviet Union working together for the world’s common good.

Happy Lunar New Year of the Dragon! 恭喜發財!
Thought it would be a nice moment to share this lovely Hong Kong Ten Dollar stamp!
Two photos of King George VI by Bertram Park were considered for use on postage stamps. The first portrait was rejected by the Royal Mint, but accepted for those produced for the Commonwealth. The second portrait was accepted for UK circulation - and it tickles me how the King’s big ear was made smaller!
Which portrait would you have chosen? (I say, screw the photos, just give me Bertie😂)
