Lawrence Steele’s Autumn/Winter 1996 show for his eponymous brand was presented at Milan Fashion Week. The collection was characterized by its minimalist construction. New and unusual methods were used for treating the sophisticated monochromatic garments. Those included stretch cashmere, oil slick neoprene and multiple zippers on satin, glossed chiffon and crochet. He also ensembled leather and lycra in order to give exceptional elasticity to the leather. The clothing is sensuous: figure flattering shapes are mixed with industrial luxe. Black leather double breasted coats were worn with tailored pants. Later, see-through shirts had velvet pockets and were matched to mini pencil skirt. Shoes featured leather over the knee boots, and Mary Jane heels. The models had short hair arranged in messy low chignons, completed with a dark rouge lipstick.
