Digimon Frontier - Episode 20

Woohoo! 20 Episodes :D

Maybe I'm just a hater, but I found this one really boring. The plot was basically "this place is dark and scary...actually, maybe it's not that scary? Okay, time to battle." Hopefully they give me something to be invested in soon.

Notes:

I think this is the first time we've seen all the beast spirits together! Squad. I think that was the most exciting part of the episode to me.

I like how Trailmon can unlatch his entire roof and wall to dump the kids out. That would make a fun toy lol

The whole scene where they talk to Bokomon about not judging a book by its cover felt way too "hey kids! The moral of the story is..." No subtlety to be seen. Also, why are they teaching kids that the dark, creepy forest isn't that bad once you get to know it? Don't go into the forest kids! 😭

The Pipismon scene was pretty random (although it's kinda nice that they introduced a digimon just to be like "isn't nature cool?") I'm not sure what they were trying to accomplish with the tongue twisters, but it was fun hearing which ones they went with in Japanese versus English

I can't take Duskmon's Edgy McEdgelord design (and personality) seriously. He reminds me of Shadow the Hedgehog or something. His betrayal of Arbormon wasn't all that shocking since he hasn't been a team player this whole time. I guess it's kind of rare for a digimon villain tho? I wonder how the rest of the villain squad will react when they find out.

(Duskmon's outfit also kinda reminds me of the ugliest Haseo outfit lol).

Love is in

Hawkmon/Holsmon become Hippogriffomon because it's a part-bird mythical creature with four legs and wings. It even has the same number of toes per foot as Holsmon. Then into Valdurmon because there's a good flow with the big white bird aspect.

V-mon/Sethmon is tricky because Sethmon is a demon beast that represents heartbreak and hatred. That much is outside my control. I couldn't find anything with quite the same vibe, but Velgrmon is a big hateful bird with the power of darkness. And while Zhuqiaomon isn't "evil", it was certainly antagonistic in Tamers. Plus, it's red with yellow stripes which does give it a tie to Sethmon's design. Making Sethmon evolve into a bird does get it back on-script as a love armor, for whatever that's worth.

Armadimon/Pteranomon becomes Cargodramon and Darkdramon because military aircraft dinosaur/dragon. I settled on Darkdramon over Brigadramon because it felt funny giving Armadimon a WarGreymon variant. At least Hawkmon/Allomon was already a theropod dinosaur. Brigadramon does work perfectly fine though.

Like with Sethmon, Pipismon being a creepy bat is outside my control. It's asking to evolve into Vamdemon with that color scheme. And the least narratively-loaded evolution for it would be Voltoboutamon, which also keeps the navy blue and red colors, plus the hooks on its elbows and tail actually fit with Pipismon's random sickles.

Tailmon/Swanmon's perfect stage is Sirenmon because it kind of fits the vibe as an aquatic bird-like creature. The idea of a "swan song" also meshes with the musical concept of Sirenmon. Then Venusmon as the ultimate because it's dressed in white, it's the goddess of love, and Tailmon has been evolving into human women since 1999.

Wormmon/Owlmon get Yatagaramon 2006 for a perfect because it's a nocturnal bird, and Valkyriemon for an ultimate because it has a visor and performs scouting. Ravmon would work too, but Valkyriemon is also white like about half of Owlmon. Plus, I made Hawkmon with knowledge end in Wormmon's evolution and now Wormmon with love ends in Hawkmon's evolution.

As for how this lines up against KarnEX's ideas:

Holsmon becoming Sinduramon and Zhuqiaomon I don't like quite as much, I prefer the Hippogriffomon connection.

Sethmon becomes DORUguremon which does work visually imo, but DORUgoramon loses the plot entirely.

Pteranomon becomes Jazarichmon and Metallicdramon which is a very good alternative. He also suggested Cargodramon into Aegisdramon, which I do like but decided against because it's a boat and we're talking about a plane.

Pipismon into Vamdemon I already remembered, but he chose Lucemon X-Antibody for the ultimate which "redeems" the line for Patamon's sake. I've just been ignoring the child stage unless it helps me.

Owlmon into Parrotmon and Murmukusmon which I guess I can see, but he's worried too much about making Wormmon "work". It's putting the cart before the horse.

Crossover Idea 4

 DC & Digimon crossover where the Batfam have digimon partners, and an entrance to the Digiverse via the Batcomputer.   Alfred meeting Thomas and Martha when they were younger via getting dragged into the digital world and staying in touch into their adulthood. Why did Alfred willingly move into Gotham? It honestly couldn’t be much crazier than the rest of the things they went through as kids. 

 Bruce probably learns about the digiverse when he was 8, after his parents’ deaths, via Alfred taking him to meet their partners. He wasn’t expecting to get a friend but honestly he really needs one.   He definitely spent part of his training trip in the digiverse, using the time difference to his advantage and learning how to fight not-human things. Which comes in handy more than a few times. 

 Each child he takes in keeps finding their way into the digital world until he gives up and brings them himself. It wasn’t like he could stop any of them from continuing to be vigilantes, but at least this way they’re not alone.   It’s like an open secret of Gotham that the batclan have some sort of creatures, most think they’re some sort of familiars or something similar. Which I suppose isn’t too far from the truth. Sure is a surprise to outsiders like say the Justice League though.

but wait, there’s medals! across the two games, i’ve amassed a medal collection of 307 unique medals. 43.8% of all medals ain’t... too bad, considering i never focused on them.

i’ve included a bunch of them too. the only one that shows up in this game in Tokomon, because that art is amazing. all the rest of them don’t show up. Moonmon, Kokomon, Gummymon, Sunmon, Kotemon, Tsukaimon, Shellmon, Deputymon, Kabukimon, Kenkimon, and Pipismon.

as i mentioned at the start, the selection of in-training Digimon in this game is limited, with 12 total, and Arcadiamon’s In-training form is locked behind a complete file of HM. i sort of wish a couple more could be implemented, but i know it’s really not needed here.

Komorimon is a Fake-Armor Evolution for my Gaomon Character and are distant cousins of Pipismon.

When playing cult classic JRPG for the Nintendo DS Digimon World Dawn/Dusk, you may be tempted to immediately Armor Digivolve Patamon into Pipismon when you get the Digi-Egg of Love, giving you an Armor Evo at the point you just started getting Champions.

That is the devil speaking. Do NOT do that Armor unless you want your Patamon to have an uselessly inflated Speed and completely atrophied every other stat for the rest of the game.

Favorite Digimon: Pipismon

A Digimon that "Armor-evolved" from Patamon due to the "DigiEgg of Love". It is said to have been born from the data of an ultrasonic sensor. It is able to copy the sound that it hears with its large ears as it is and release it.
