okay so BASICALLY the gist that i have set up rn is that suguru is a harp player and ofc it’s such an angelic instrument that brings ethereal joy to others… but two of his friends (haibara & riko) passed away in a tragic car accident on their way to his show… i think suguru genuinely almost loses his way and can’t even look at his harp anymore but his best friend satoru wants him to find his way again — so suguru finds a cottage to stay at while also trying to process his grief.

there he meets a coffin maker who he gets to know a bit and they try and help him through his grief (this reader i think will be very beloved to me in the future… they’re not like my normal brash loud silly readers… they’re a bit more subdued & have an air of calm & mystique that intrigues and entrances suguru!) this fic i think will be about two people bonding over grief and trying to overcome it the best way they can together… i’m actually really excited to write this fic and get more ideas about it so thank you so much lily for asking about it :’) i think this fic will be very near and dear to me and a lot more softer/bittersweet/morose yet hopefully filled w fondness & longing! i’ll try and get ideas to write abt this soon :’)

Would you say that Silver is low wisdom but high intellect? (Sorry to get all D&D on you again)

No worries, I have played D&D for a bit before so I enjoy it🍀 The internet defines intelligence as how "smart" a character is in the way of possessing knowledge and problem-solving skills, whereas wisdom would be one's intuition, ability to pick up on subtle clues, and their perception on their surroundings. With those definitions, I'd actually argue Silver has higher wisdom than intelligence!

For example, in Rivals 1, Silver clues together that "Eggman" is actually Eggman Nega due to "Eggman's" mannerisms and speech that he's been exposed to over the course of the game. In the scene before, he concludes that Eggman Nega would never let his camera out of his view, making it rather strange that "Eggman" has it all of a sudden; here Silver has also previously discussed the fact that the camera's technology doesn't exist yet in Sonic's present. He furthermore notices that "Eggman" mentions the present and future as places where he will be opposed no more. These are all quite small details to notice, which I argue tie into Silver's ability to perceive them well. And perception is part of wisdom, not intelligence. Heh, Eggman Nega even outright calls him perceptive in Rivals 2. Perhaps a case can be made that Silver going to Eggman in TSR after noticing him and Dodon Pa talking is a sign of perception as well, since Silver is the one originally taking note that the two of them appear to be working together. And in Colours DS, he is the one stating it feels like he and Blaze have teamed up before.

However, I reason Silver's intelligence isn't poor either. Though I can't speak for much of '06 since I never played it (see below as well), I do know he's got the occasional puzzle to deal with (such as the beloved ball puzzle in the desert, haha; he also has to do stuff with scales and his powers in Radical Train, I happen to know): that could be taken as a sign of him using his smarts to continue on his mission. He also is the one doing the Test of Memory to get access to Kingdom Valley, wherein the player must choose the correct option when provided with a bunch of prompts about Silver's adventure. In TSR again, he concludes that Eggman is yearning for the Ultimate Energy Engine and hired Zavok to steal it, where Eggman laments he was being too obvious about it. I argue that there Silver combines the clues he picked up with information he knows about Eggman in general to draw a (correct) conclusion, which I figure is also intelligence.

On the other hand, '06 with Silver trusting Mephiles very much exists, which doesn't speak wonders for Silver's intelligence (or wisdom, for that matter). But a critique of the game I've often seen is that everyone, heroes and villains alike, are juggling the idiot ball like mad and that a lot of plot points legitimately just inherently do not make sense. Thus, I cannot say how much of the game can be used to show Silver is a dumbass and how much of it is simply everything going wrong because the plot goes in a way that makes everyone look bad. So for '06!Silver I find it hard to say what his intelligence and wisdom are, but I argue that his characterisations from Rivals 1 and onwards are geared towards him having both decent enough intelligence and wisdom alike. He's repented himself by not immediately trusting Sonic in White Space and fighting him first before handing over the Emerald /j XD So generally, my own gut feeling is that Silver's perception and intuition are higher than his smarts: he's perceptive and can use information gained there to draw correct conclusions, but he's also very honest and straightforward, where a smarter character would perhaps know to watch their mouth and not say something that actively hinders their mission (e.g. with Knuckles in Rivals 2 or the Soleannan officials in the 2021 Sonic Channel story). Thus my overall conclusion would be that Silver's wisdom is higher than his intelligence; but with low intelligence I mean he's straightforward and doesn't mince his words which can get him in trouble, not that he's outright dumb.

to fuel ur theatre au brainworms, in the romeo and juliet au: mercutio is bdubs + benvolio is cleo, and jimmy and joel are sampson and gregory (two capulets from the start of the play they're such dumbasses my absolute beloveds), so we've got the design philosophy of the montagues and the capulets mirroring the aesthetics of the family and the bad boysss. (I never came up with a design for bad boy!Ren when he steps in as Tybalt instead of Grian during show week but I feel it's not too hard to imagine hehe)

but also (separately from that au, because I saw other talk of the life series and theatre and plays on ur blog) I constantly think about the life series as a greek tragedy, specifically in relation to the purpose of the series' inevitable tragedy being catharsis for the watchers (with the watchers also being literally the viewers). we love to see them suffer!!! but there's also a bunch of politics surrounding greek tragedies that Plato and Aristotle had discourse about that you can rope into it and tldr; my understanding is catharsis was Aristotle's answer to Plato's concern that tragedies' emotive affect could encourage rebellion against the state, with Aristotle saying that instead the cycle of pity and fear and eventual catharsis felt by the audience has a "purifying" effect that's like an emotional release from those emotions instead. Then with the extra layer of lore the fandom has surrounding Grian running away from the watchers, if Grian designs the life games, to the end of sating the watchers' need to emotionally feed (thank you Martyn for that piece of lore I'm stealing it jkfhdsk), the purpose of the games could be the cleansing of the watchers' discomfort with him running away and being a player and maintaining the status quo where Grian is actually the one in control !!!! even if he makes himself suffer. also different characters "curses" as their harmatia!! And, if we interpret the watchers as a fictional force AND the viewers simultaneously, then the chorus could absolutely be watchers who are vocal in the fandom - removed from the "players" (and OH how I love the dual meaning of minecraft players and players as in actors) but providing additional commentary and insight into what's happening that further feeds the emotional experience of the audience !!

And then his willingness to try and talk things through (or fight with his fists) rather than just pump the guy full of lead is so different to the other bodyguards. I really think Porsche is just who Kinn needed in life.

Kinn is finding himself more drawn to Porsche now... He's going out of his way to find Porsche, avoiding physical contact with his lovers... I can see that avoidant and cruel veneer getting worn away and we're seeing the soft, fluffy interior.

Yakuza 0 review

I’ve finally finished all the Kiryu games and I wanna talk about them.

Loads of spoilers though to follow.

Anyway I figured a prequel would be a good place to start and I definitely feel I made the right choice. I did miss out on references, like little Daigo for example, but that just makes a second playthrough even better. Plus, it makes a lot of the twists and turns a bit more exciting as I didn’t know who was destined to die/survive. Also I wasn’t used to some of the tropes they re-use a lot in this series so it was all fresh.

The good shit:

I really preferred the fighting style in this game, choosing between styles kept things fresh and added strategy. Majima’s styles were more fun, although breaker was nearly broken, no boss stood a chance. I didn’t bother unlocking the legendary styles though.

It did a good job building up Nishiki for Kiwami, I would not have cared about him otherwise. Same with Reina

Although it was a slow start, the story had me hooked fairly quickly and the cutscenes are really well done. Voice acting and music was great. I feel like 0 had the most well told and realistic story out of all the games. Far less dramatic and illogical nonsense (although there is still some). Some really strong characters and my opinion on them was constantly changing. The 3 lieutenants were standouts. 

I didn’t know anything about Kiryu beforehand and I really grew to like him, even if he made some dumbass decisions. I was slower to warm up to Majima but I ended up loving him too.

Punching money out of enemies never got old

Loads of stuff to do, although I just stuck with the main quests for the most of it

Tachibana, my beloved.

One of the better final boss fights in the series.

brilliant soundtrack. Most of the the games have good soundtracks but I think 0 is the best of them.

Kuze always appearing again annoyed me at first but then I got used to it and even started to like him. Of all the games the first Kuze is one of the only ones to kill me several times. And the last one. IDK if 0 is a harder game or if I just got better but I never had as much challenge with most other bosses in the series.

Great and varied heat actions.

2 cities, and both are good.

Sera gets some time to shine here, and the battle to reach him is funny. He’s easy enough though.

The tojo clan HQ actually seemed really intimidating as a first time player. I didn’t realise what a clown show it what turn out to be later of course. The big fight with Oda and Tachibana is a highlight

None of that dumbass purgatory shite. Never liked the Florist.

Majima awkwardly dancing in silence on teh bridge with noone paying attention is burned into my brain

Little Daigo and Ryuji

Disco dancing is fun, although I fucking suck at it.

The bad shit:

Hiding their ‘legendary’ styles behind mini games. I didn’t like cabaret club management or the real estate thing, found them pretty boring so missed out on all that.

Having to go and track down people for training with some move. Again, couldn’t be arsed. Not just this game, but I went through nearly them all without Tiger drop because I wasn’t bothered with komaki’s training. I prefer to have all that stuff in the level up screen.

No autosave, didn’t realise and had to do the first two hours again, nearly packed it in. Thank God for skippable cutscenes.

Following people slowly on occasion is irritating.

Car chase bit is fucking shit, at least it’s brief.

Gun/Knife enemies in this game are a pain in the arse. Same with Kiwami but never had much of a problem with the other games.

Makoto’s braindead fucking decision to confront the bad guy over the empty lot and demand he kill his 3 henchmen. She is a blind girl all alone on a roof surrounded by armed goons, she knows DAMN WELL how dangerous these guys are considering her past and was warned against it. Does it anyway. Traumatised or not, this is such a stupid fucking moment and I didn’t care that she got shot because what the hell else would have happened? He’d go ‘yeah ok’ and kill his lieutenants for her sake? 

Kazama’s nearly godlike powers of foresight started to get a bit silly. He’s really made out to be some kind of genius but I didn’t see much of that when you finally meet him in kiwami. Shimano as well, so much could have gone wrong with his plan , plus he’s  stubborn and implusive in kiwami, not the 4d chess player he’s made out to be here.

At the time I didn’t realise, but looking back it’s a shame they didn’t explore more of the old guard themselves. Kazama is just in jail, dojima and shimano barely appear. IDK, could have had more. It’s long enough as it is I guess.

Not getting to kill Sagawa. I guess it’s to make him seem ‘untouchable’ right til the end but ugh, I needed the satisfaction.

Where did all pink suit guy goons go when he get’s shot by that policeman? That whole section was a bit odd. Murdering a guy to send a kid to college when you already have a fulltime job and getting bribes? Hard to swallow. Didn’t care for pink suit guy much though so no loss

Not a big deal but no voices outside of cutscenes was a bit disappointing. There is a A LOT of dialogue though so I get it.

Oda was an interesting character but I don’t like how they tried to redeem him. He was sex trafficker, selfish and murderous to the end. IDK why makoto forgave him or why kiryu brought him up at the end along with actual victims.

Fetch quests. I don’t want to go and run around the city buying specific drinks for hobbos WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS FUN.

Should have been allowed to give Dojima a thrashing.

Where the fuck is Yumi, Kiryu’s great love and they don’t explore anything about her? Waste of an opportunity

They make a big deal about civilians getting drawn in/ being killed but Awano shoots some random woman dead and it’s never mentioned again?

Every goon in town is looking for Kiryu and he goes out in the same crisp white suit and bright red shirt? I saw the joke where they jump a guy in the same clothes but it was silly. Even sillier was hiding in his usual haunt, the FIRST place anyone would look. Also even thinking of going back to his flat, thank god it got burnt out. Not a smart man.

The asian elder says Kazama was part of a raid on Little Asia and not even women and children were spared and Kiryu isn’t all that phased? It’s never mentioned again. Same with Kazama being referred to as a monster by the chairman. I thought the series would build upon that but nah. Strange .Did I miss something?

Ok the bad section seems long but it’s mostly nitpicks. I really had a lot of fun with this and went on to play the whole series back to back. However some of the other entries are showing their age now and some people did say starting with 0 sets the bar very high and I agree with that. The plot in this game has it’s outlandish moments but a lot less than some of the earlier games. It’s more character driven compared to some of the others and I prefer that approach. This one had two characters and I feel that’s the right amount, one can get samey and 4/5 can get overwhelming.

Regardless, accusing her of jealousy was a dirty move, even by someone as vile and petty as Ichijouji. His life was perfect: the genius boy with his strinking looks, talented in each and every sport, granted special access to developer tools to the most sophisticated game ever developed. Popular, beloved, a liar, making a mockery of everything Miyako could ever want. She'd have no qualms in putting him in his place, wallowing in misery.

Luigi (The Four Players)

So, this one's a bit of a weird one, and was admittedly me feeding my own niche interests. This is a take on Luigi from an old Polaris mini-series called The Four Players, which featured grittier takes on Mario, Luigi, Peach and Toad, being The Fixer, The Addict, The Star and The Soldier(which is like, the only one I really don't care for lmao).

A mixture of nobody really interacting with him (save for one person; you know who you are and I still love you for it ;D) and just kinda falling out of roleplaying for a while just made me drop him. Would I pick him up again? I dunno, maybe. But he isn't exactly a popular muse from my old blog, so I don't see him making a huge comeback.

Rimuru Tempest (That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime)

My girlfriend got me hooked on this anime over the last few months, and we haven't finished it(well, she has, but I only ever watch stuff with her anymore, so I haven't). However, I've been watching TenSura with the thought that I would really like to RP as him.

As it is, I was planning on him maybe taking over my old Villain Deku MHA blog, mostly because I've fallen out of watching My Hero for a good while and the concept I had for Villain Deku was flawed anyway, but I don't know if he would be popular enough to warrant having a whole blog to himself.

Cole MacGrath (InFAMOUS 1 and 2) - @the-devils-toybox

InFAMOUS is honestly one of my favorite series. Just ever. For starters, the neon powers used in the game InFAMOUS: Second Son (and subsequently its expansion First Light) inspired Matthew's powers, but Cole is the main character of the first two games.

The basic rundown for the uninitiated is that the series starts off with Cole, a college dropout bike courier, delivering a mysterious package. He suddenly gets a phone call that tells him to open it when he's basically at the heart of the city, an event which causes a massive explosion that kills dozens, but mysteriously grants Cole with electrokinetic abilities.

As the city comes under lockdown, it is full of rioters, looters, and overall just gangs that are trying to take over the city for their own reasons, plenty of them either super powered themselves or run by those with powers. Cole, discovering and learning to use these powers, takes matters into his own hands to either free the city... or to take it over for himself.

I roleplay as both versions of Cole; either the Hero of Empire City, beloved by the people for his selfless acts in the face of adversity, or the Demon of Empire City, a heartless beast who took as much power as he could for himself, ruling the city with an iron fist as revenge against the people for turning on him upon initially finding that it was him at the center of the blast.

...Or I would, if InFamous as a series hadn't fallen out of the public eye. I highly suggest at least giving the games a watch, they're made by the Sly Cooper devs, Sucker Punch.

Try This Mask: A Character you think I can roleplay well

William Joseph "B.J." Blazkowicz (Wolfenstein)

This one's... tricky. See, I would be willing to roleplay as him, but I haven't the slightest goddamn clue about anything Wolfenstein. As it is, I only just recently got into Doom a bit after 2016 came out, and I'm interested in Wolfenstein as well... but I have a huge fucking backlog so I haven't had the time to really get around to looking into it.

Literally all I know are a few funny scenes from... I wanna say Old Blood? I'd need to go and actually play the series for myself before I can definitively pick him up. Or, at the very least, watch all the cutscenes or something lol.

Into our world

Inspired by @im-back-with-pink, and @the-caffeine-dumbass

Summary: A sickly reader (baker) has nothing better to do and is stuck at home. So why not waste time and play some games till the date of your next health check-up.

You sat in their bed as they scrolled through social media while texting friends. Suffering from rheumatic fever is the worst. It greatly weakened your heart and lungs, and the random but painful burst of pain in your joints has left you stuck at home. Luckily your family is very well off and you were waited on by many maids, leaving you little to no reason to leave your room.

Which got boring really fast. Your read every novel and manga series in your bedroom twice, draw an entires books worth of random art, sketches, and blueprints of complex crafts you wanted to do. But sadly, crafts work is not allowed in your room, you had a studio dedicated for that next door. Sadly rheumatic fever has you locked in your room, so no crafts, or in-person interactions with friends either. Though your kitty, Mittens was decent company.

But as her friends texted, they suggested that you play video games to pass the time. And to also get you hooked on games like them.

‘Alright, what game do you guys suggest?’ You text your friend.

‘ you should try this game called “Cookie run: Kingdom” its fun, cute, and you can decorate a kingdom. It also has a lot of cute characters’ your friend texted.

‘Are you talking about the game everyone is crazy about? And lots of cookie simping?’ You asked.

‘ you will b simping too soon’ your friend responds.

You sighed as they slowly opened their app store and downloaded the game, and down the rabbit hole, they fell. As You collected Cookies, decorated their Kingdom, and took care of each cookie they had, blissfully unaware of the hearts you capture from behind the screen.

The cookies behind the screen, the cookies grew fond of their player, or the baker they called them. They so wished to be by their baker’s side, so when the phone was off, they worked tirelessly to find a way to escape the digital world of their game.

“Come on! Is it Done Yet?!” A young cookie whined.

“Patients strawberry crepe cookie, this is a very dangerous spell,” Espresso Cookie sighed.

“Just a little longer everyone,” A calm and regal-looking Cookie said.

All the Cookies you collected stood in excitement as the time is finally close at hand.

As You and Mittens sleep, your phone began to shine brilliantly as all the cookies began to pour out from the screen. The cookies were awed at the sights, and just how large the new world was around them as compared to their world.

When Suddenly the lights turned on, and the cookies turn to see their beloved Baker had awakened. As You woke up and took a sip of water, you heard a bounce of cheering on your left. Tuning to see a bunch of cookies smiling and calling out to you.

“Baker! Baker!” they called out as You just stared in complete confusion.

“Was my medicine switched up?” You groaned as they looked at their medicine bottle.

“Baker!” The cookies cheered as they began to climb onto the bed.

“Beloved baker it is so good to finally meet you,” Pure Vanilla cookie smiled as he stepped forward.

“Pure...Vanilla Cookie?” You yawned as you stare down at the cookie.

“I’m glad to finally meet you, baker,” Pv smiled.

You slowly reached out to touch the illusion, only to find that there was indeed a cookie in front of you. But sadly you were still too tired to stay awake as their eyes began to close and their mind drifted off.

CRASH!!

You gasp awake at the sound of something breaking, as you jump awake. Looking around you see a broken flowerpot and standing at the scene of the crime was Custard Cookie, Pancake Cookie, and Chili pepper cookie. The three noticed that their baker has spotted them, and quickly try to hide from view. Know with a clearer mind, You only stared in shock that the actual cookie run characters are currently causing havoc in their room. Suddenly you felt something squishy in their hands, quickly looking down. There curled up in the palm of their hands was Squid Ink Cookie.

“I… Annoy?” the tiny octopus cookie asked shyly.

“Um no, you’re fine. Just surprised,” You smile softly, causing the squishy cookie to push into your palms more.

You smiled gently as you looked around your room and noticed all the cookies roaming around their room. You can only sit and wonder what are you going to do with all these cookies?
