Etta's Guide to Writeblr (March 2023)

So you fled here from Twitter/TikTok... Where to start?

Welcome to Writeblr! Pull up a chair, open those documents, and pour yourself a cup of your favorite tea, coffee, or cocoa. The first thing you'll want to do is start following other writers. Check out this post for recommendations! Search through the notes to find hundreds more. Since I made that post, a bunch of people mentioned they're lurking and still trying to figure out tumblr, so I thought I'd make this post to help people get settled.

How to set up your blog

Make your blog name something not resembling a pornbot - it can be whatever you want, anything fun goes, just not [name###]. If you include "writer" or "author" somewhere in the url it makes it easier to spot writeblrs at a glance but it's not a requirement

Change your profile to something that's not the default, Make sure you have a blog title, and add a little description in your blog header if you feel like it!

Make a pinned post introducing yourself (pls don't use your real name or any IDing information for privacy's sake, this isn't facebook), a short summary of your WIPs, and links if you have an author's website/newsletter/ao3/etc. You can check my pinned post for an example

Make intro posts for each WIP! You can spruce these up with graphics (canva and unsplash are both great free resources to make edits/moodboards), excerpts, lists of tropes, character intros, etc. Link to the WIP intro in your pinned post so it's easy to find! You can update these as often as needed

If you want to make character intros, go wild. If you can't draw, piccrew is a great option. Just start talking about your WIP!

Come up with a tagging system to keep your blog organized. I recommend individual wip tags or at least one for your original writing in general so it's easy to search for your work on your blog

Keep track of Taglists for your WIPs. Whenever you post a new thing about your story, tag the people who asked to be notified to make sure they see it! Only tag people who ask to join the taglist, but it's a good way to keep track of interest. It's normal to have multiple taglists for each story+ one general writing taglist.

How to make writer friends

Reblog their work and add nice comments, either in the tags, comments, or the reblog itself People notice regulars in their notes and appreciate the attention. I promise it's not weird to compliment a total stranger

If that's too intimidating, community events are your friend!

Weekly Ask Games: These are weekly events that are loosely themed where writers send each other asks about their WIPs! The most common are Storyteller Saturday (about the writing process), Blorbsday (aka Blorbo Thursday about characters), and Worldbuilding Wednesday (about the setting of your story). If you answer these late, nobody really cares, but it's a fun way to receive prompts and learn more about other people's stories.

Ask Games/Memes: These are posts with lists of questions you can reblog from other people, sometimes themed or listed with emojis. It's common courtesy to send an ask from the list to the person you reblog it from, then people can send you questions as well, so you can talk about your stories! You can search for dozens of them

Tag games: There's a ton of different types of tag games, but basically someone @s you with a challenge/question, you reblog with your answer, and then @ a bunch of other people to continue the chain. Some common ones are Heads Up 7s Up (share the last 7 lines of your WIP), Last Line Tag (share the last line you wrote), and Find the Words (ctrl+f the given words in your doc and share the results, then give new words).

Formal events: These are community wide participation challenges organized by certain blogs! @writeblrsummerfest is every July?? August? I think? It's run by @abalonetea a few years strong, and there are daily prompts and ask games! @inklings-challenge is a month-long short story entry for Christian writeblrs. I think there was a valentines event in February. @moon-and-seraph is hosting a pitch week soon! Since these are more organized, it's very easy to find similar blogs and support!

Misc. Notes on using Tumblr

Follow the tags #writeblr and #writeblr community to find other writers, as well as other tags that interest you like #fantasy for example

If you want to bookmark a post to read later, you can like it and/or save it to your drafts

The queue/schedule function is very useful if you want to space out posts or have a backlog to keep your blog running when you get busy. This is good for the community because it gives older posts a chance to be rediscovered! You can change the posting frequency in the settings.

REBLOG YOUR OWN STUFF. People aren't always on at the same times and so it's the best way to account for people with different schedules and timezones. If you're worried about being annoying, you can tag those #self reblog or something similar and other people can filter the tag, but otherwise it's a welcomed and accepted practice.

If your excerpt is pretty long, put it under a cut. On desktop you can do this by selecting the squiggly button on the far right when you make a new paragraph, on mobile type :readmore: then hit enter.

It's polite to add descriptions to images and videos for visually or auditory impaired people. If you don't know how to write descriptions, here's a good resource

In your dashboard settings, it's best to shut off the options "Best Stuff First" and "Based on your Likes". These function as the website algorithm and suppresses the blogs you actually follow, which defeats the purpose of the site, letting the dash be in reverse chronological order. Also turn off Tumblr Live because it's malware as far as anyone's concerned.

Go to settings and find the Visibility tab

Scroll down to the tag that says "Prevent Third-Party Sharing"

Turn that knob over so that Automattic can't steal your work for their language training model databases >_<

The other settings will just hide your blog from search engines so they're useful for hiding from nosy parents or other Tumblr users but if you're trying to build an author platform you can leave them off.

when did your muse first arrive in yuseong bay? mila has only begun planting roots for herself in yuseong about four months ago ( so, essentially, at the very beginning of this year ).

what does an average day look like for your muse & where can they usually be found? the busiest of bees, mila can be seen fluttering around eclectique, as well as it's general vicinity, the majority of time— at least, during the day / general work hours. as mornings wind down into evenings and the sun begins to set, the blonde often takes refugee at the 88&bar, nursing cocktails of her choice as a way of keeping her frazzled thoughts at bay ( when i tell you this city girl is still trying to adjust to rural living amidst having her hallmark movie moment . . . pls help her ).

how does your muse feel about hanhwa resort? having no real frame of reference for what mild negativities a resort like hanhwa could be bringing to the local space and its primary inhabitants whose daily lives are now continuously altered, mila herself doesn't see the harm with how much attention it seems to be garnering. honestly, the urban crowds that filter in and out are a welcome familiarity.

is there an aspiration for your muse to stay in or leave yuseong bay? for the time being, mila has no real idea what she's looking for just yet— coming to yuseong had been a random, but conscious, choice, one made with the intention of being somewhere different. for now, four months in and still aspiring to find some sense of rthym for herself ( as hard as that'd currently been ), the thought of wanting to leave has yet to cross her mind.

describe your muse’s wardrobe. flirty, girly, pastels. a soft romantic at heart, that aspect of her personality translates one for one in terms of her fashion.

what is a color, word, and emoji that you feel describes your muse? baby pink, ambitious, 🎀.

three strong likes and dislikes for your muse. likes — floral perfumes, early mornings, staying busy. dislikes — creative ruts, the stench of fish, root regrowth.

three positive and negative traits for your muse. positives — sweet, upbeat, extroverted. negatives — impulsive, workaholic, judgy.

three talents and shortcomings for your muse. having a knack for connecting with others, a skill she'd already had since childhood that only got stronger with time, mila can make an acquaintance out of anyone. open, ready to talk about anything and everything, there's not a single person she'd ever found herself intimidated by enough to keep her distance. often times, it's this very facete of herself that leads to a decline in energy by the days end, her social batteries quick to recharge after quiet evenings, and even then, she'll often find herself engaging in conversations past her moods expiration simply because that's what she's always done. mild eye bags and all that'll be gone come time to wake up the next morning, mila engages with a smile.

what is a book/tv series/movie/video game character that you feel your character relates to? without question, elle woods has always been a role model, a character mila strives make proud.

a relevant goal or arc for your character to overcome. finding balance, not just within herself, but in this new daily life she's found for herself.

Gimme some of that Clone Wars AU pls! Stirring the Sky

Hoooo ohhh man, Abby! The origin story to this one is actually pretty funny…and I know I’ve blathered on to you about my fics…BUT for everyone else…so a few months ago, an anon asked me if I had any sort of fic prompt ideas floating around in my head, which you can find here. And what do I do ofc??? Why, write out 5k worth of prompt ideas because a bitch over here can never stfu. And ONE of those ideas…I honestly got really attached to it and I was like…well oh NO I am going to have to write this, aren’t I?? It’s from the “Canonverse Divergent” section, I thought of this Clone Wars AU, and this is the original prompt I wrote:

“Clone Wars AU where Cal and Jaro are assigned to try and recruit the Nightsisters to try and get the upper hand in the war with Dooku (lol I wouldn’t say exactly a Dark Disciple route but that’s up to you). Merrin is voluntold (the opposite of volunteered) by Mother Talzin to try and become allies with the Jedi (they could have their own shady Nightsister ulterior motive going on as well), and Merrin reluctantly goes with the Jedi. And oooooooOoOooo wow the shenanigans that can ensue from that. (Merrin also has to try really hard not to lose her shit over leaving Dathomir for the first time in her life). I’d imagine a lot of frustrations from both parties. The clones mercilessly make fun of Cal and his Nightsister gf (but they also have to tell him what’s up). He thinks she’s unreasonably obtuse and rude, and she thinks he’s frustratingly smug/arrogant. Merrin could prove to be a definite asset in battle. Cal probably thinks it’s hawt 😳 OH NO SHE’S HOT SEE LOOK HOW WE GOT HERE WE LIKE TO HAVE FUN HERE.

Now suddenly she’s mysterious and complex, and he’s frustrated that he wants to know more. He’s actually the sweetest person she’s ever seen and she’s angry about it. She constantly has to check in with her sisters and it’s getting harder and harder to go behind his back or deny that she maybe might not hate him anymore she maybe even may want to smooch him WOAH who knows. They bond over feeling used in this war. Come on. You got it from here right?”

Soooo, YEAH…I gots a little too overindulgent in my thoughts and started writing THIS…but I am so very excited because it’s just the two of them being endlessly frustrated yet hotted up for each other at all times. All the clones ship it HARD. Merrin starts to grow attached to some of the clones that are very welcoming to her…actually fun fact…if you’ve read my fic “what’s grown between (surgery scars)” when Cal told Merrin about his clone trauma…I literally pulled what he was saying from this WIP…HEH…

ALSO, I honestly just want to live my best life and push forward my personal HC that I have of if Cal were older during order 66 or it never happened, him and Jaro would 100% have Jake and Holt energy from Brooklyn 99 agenda.

And I am so very excited to explore a lot of these themes that I’ve brought into my Merrical writing in a setting like this. Cal contemplating his feelings, his so naturally compassionate and empathetic spirit that wants to take care of everyone else before himself, and then someone like MERRIN steps into his life??? OOF I am gonna have some fun with this and the psychometric Jedi and space witch of it all. GOODNESS I am so excited for it.

AND SO…here is a long ass preview because I honestly didn’t know where to cut it off…Cal is answering a comm from their commander, Zand, on his and Jaro’s ship and well he may have sensed a presence while doing so…😏😏😏

When there was nothing there still, he turned once again to his original direction, but as soon as he did, there was a flash of green light and smoke, and suddenly, there was a figure there before him.

“There is no need to brandish weapons or administer threats Jedi,” she stated with her voice laced in malice, which ironically enough did feel like a bit of a threat.

Cal severely balked at this sudden interaction, “Who are you?”

The woman crossed her arms with still a severe expression on her face, “Does it matter? We are all just—unsettling to you anyway.”

His eyes narrowed as he put the pieces together in his head, “Were you—spying on me?”

Her expression changed to that of incredulity as she raised an eyebrow, “You left the door to your ship open.”

It was a bit shocking, her audacity as he bristled all over again, “Are you seriously blaming me for you trespassing onto my ship and listening in on my private conversation?”

This woman, who Cal only now after processing the last several moments did he start to take in her appearance, did give off such an intense energy in the force. Cal felt her ire, her disdain so much so that it almost made him feel dizzy.

A short breath escaped him as he shut off his lightsaber, and all she did was continue to glare at him. She was short statured with light gray skin and intense brown eyes. Her soft features on her face were adorned with tattoos that lined her forehead, her cheeks. And it was all coming to a head, feeling her emotions, his emotions of frustration, accost, but now he was also flustered, bewildered, and definitely anxious.

He hated to think, though it was sad, but true, that he thought she was astoundingly beautiful.

His mind tried to do a complete turnaround because that was very much besides the point, and he did his best to keep his mental shields up, having no idea what she was capable of as she finally continued to speak.

“Though Mother Talzin invited you here Jedi,” she said again with such derision to her words, “do not hold the false notion that you are in any way welcome.”

Cal almost wanted to laugh at her statement, his own ire stacking up again in his mind, and he actually welcomed it as it was much easier to process in the moment than anything else he was currently grappling with.

An exhale escaped his nostrils harshly as he kept up his glare, “Believe me,” he stated with his own contempt, clipping his lightsaber to his belt again, “I would like to get off this force forsaken planet as soon as possible.”

She tilted her head at him, seeming to descry in her own way, which caused the fringe of her silver blonde hair to slightly cascade into her eyes as they scanned over him. It made him—exceedingly uncomfortable for a multitude of reasons he really couldn’t dwell on at the moment.

“That is at least something we can agree on Jedi,” she uttered in a flatter tone than she had before, but still possessed an air of intolerance.

“I have a name you know. Don’t know how I’d get around the confusion of actually just going by the moniker of Jedi,” he stated in what was a mockery of her sardonic tone of voice.

She stood there still for several moments as she raised an eyebrow at him, which to him translated into some form of her being through with his banthashit.

“Jedi…the Jedi?” The Nightsister questioned with a genuine air of perplexment to her voice.

Honestly, once she said it out loud, Cal really wasn’t sure what he was even trying to accomplish. Was he trying to make a joke? Was he trying to be a smartass? Was he trying to break the tension? If Jaro was asked, he’d probably claim that Cal would try and accomplish all of the above.

“What, are you attempting to be clever or snide?” She asked as she began to take careful steps circumventing him, “Or just insulting? You think you can come to my home and disrespect me in such a way?”

Cal crossed his arms as he scoffed, “You’re the one who snuck onto my ship first, Nightsister.”

If she was going to address him in such a way he’d do it right back. He was feeling that petty.

Though, he very much resented himself when his mind flashed with the title ‘Nightsister, the Nightsister,’ and he had to hold back a stupid smirk.

She was temporarily out of his view, though he still felt her, always felt her as she too laughed humorlessly, “You are extremely full of yourself, aren’t you Jedi?”

The way she said it this time seemed to give off the same amount of snark he was emanating.

Cal waited until she was there in his vision again as he slightly upturned his chin to her.

“I bet you’d like to think so, wouldn’t you? Profile me, put me in a box of whatever your false perceptions of Jedi are,” Cal almost barked at her. Force, he didn’t even remember the last time he’d been so irritated with a person.

“And you are not doing the same to me? Making your own assumptions and insulting something you don’t even understand.”

Another scoff was in his throat, “Yeah, and let’s still not forget how you acquired such information from me.”

Her glare was fierce again as the disparagement was almost palpable on her face now, “I only was scoping out the situation because I have my people’s interest in mind.”

Cal realized he was flexing his arms now as they were still crossed over his chest out of sheer frustration, “You could have just asked me you know; I would have been more than willing to speak with you about any such matters that occur with my order.”

“And how was I to know this? All I have heard about Jedi is that they are liars and selfish thieves!” She exclaimed.

Again. He was taken such aback again at the gull.

“And where in the hell did you hear that? A Separatist the people The Republic is trying to stand against?” He said, but then he already had another retort on his tongue, “And for that matter, we were the ones that were invited here and ever since we arrived, all we have gotten from you is blatant disdain when we hadn’t even done anything!”

“None of us wanted you here!”

“That’s not my problem! Don’t take your misplaced frustration out on me!”

His statement seemed to give her pause, and Cal hadn’t even realized that they’d somehow managed to step closer and closer to one another in this skirmish and were definitely in one another’s personal space.

Kriff, how did I end up here?

Her eyes were narrowed up at him as he still found that anger, but he also cornered something else in them that was not easy to place.

“You should have never come to Dathomir Jedi,” she admonished in a strained tone.

A short sigh fell out of his mouth.

“Cal.”

For the first time, he found actual confusion on her countenance, “What?”

“Cal, my name is Cal Kestis, not Jedi. Again, I don’t go by Jedi the Jedi.”

Honestly, he wasn’t exactly sure why he said it. At this point he recognized they were both being assholes to each other.

Her eyes were all over him again though as she leaned back to cross her arms, “Do you think you are exceedingly hilarious, Cal?”

He didn’t know what it was. The concept of his nomenclature was always simple, straightforward concept in his mind, but there was something in the way that she said it, the timbre of her voice, that drove him insane.

And that sort of insanity seemed to have many faces right now, many of which were irritation.

Still, he crossed his arms all the same, “I am starting up my own comedy tour, actually.”

And never in his life, as he was already trying to convince himself that it wasn’t true, had he ever been so…aroused by the utterance of his own name.

This…he needed to get himself out of this situation now.

Her eyes scanned him again, “I do not find your antics the least bit entertaining.”

“Well, I guess I won’t be reserving the cranky Nightsister a seat, now will I?”

A narrowed gaze in his direction now. And he wasn’t sure how he felt—about being under her scrutiny.

“You are extremely arrogant and insolent,” she declared, her eyes still fierce, “but it is not as if that really matters, Cal.”

He was very much resenting the shiver that was sent down his spine.

SOOO YEH, hope you guys are as excited for this one as I am!!! I literally think these two don't even have the ability to be around one another and NOT be super horni right off the bat for each other haha.

Work Description: I do digital art in a cartoony/comic booky style!! I also do Chibi that you can see on socials here! I can do different characters/relationships than what I listed. ;) Though I’m a bit picky about shipping, so I might not want to do some relationships super shippy and romantic other that what's listed. Willing to draw pretty much anything gen with characters I know. Feel free to still ask if I want to do a specific romantic ship or something, though; I still might consider it! Ignoring the fact that he snapped at her hand, she cupped his jaw - using her thumb and second finger to hold his mandibles in place just as she’d come to know he liked to pretend he hated her doing. That’d been a recent discovery, truth be told; before this winter, the only times they’d dared touch one another had been pulled punches and scuffles - or alternatively passing food they’d gathered together between one-another before returning to their respective tribes. Those, in fact were the touches which had lingered, had shifted and turned serious in the quiet hours when they were undisturbed. Quiet hours he’d enjoyed just as enthusiastically as she had and which, without fail made her wonder what the summer months were like further into the gold and red plains he knew as home.  Maybe he wondered what they were like in the mountains too though. His feet scraped against the ground uselessly, dragging her thoughts back on topic. Right- before he worked out some way to slip free. “If you don’t want to talk, then y’can listen instead for a change.” He grumbled and she squeezed just enough to remind him where she had her hand. “Just wonderin’ where my songbird’s gone recently- you’ve been too quiet… yet it’s so hard to get you to quit your yammering usually.” He wrenched his head free, turning his chin with a disgruntled huff. “Thought you liked it when I shut up- what you keep asking for.” “Des-” She hesitated, wondering how best to put it; if she straight up told him that what she asked for wasn’t what she really wanted, well, there’d be no shutting him up in the future, would there? Even in light of his moodiness, she wasn’t sure she wanted to let him win that one. “What’s made you change your mind? It’s like you’re thinkin’- but we both know your skull doesn’t have enough room for thoughts that big.” Another huff, maybe a little bit more lighthearted this time. “Maybe I’d surprise you.” Aware that he’d one eye fixed on her warily still, Valis tilted her head to the side, keen for him to actually elaborate on that and, with a deep enough sigh that he made it seem a chore, he did. “Fine- I hate spring. We celebrate in the spring, you know, in my tribe? We have a festival to welcome life back to the land once the last of the night-ice stops coming. And I hate it.” “Must be about when we leave for the mountains.” They followed the night-ice back up, after all, preferring to see its final appearance from safely in their summer haunts. “Our festivals are in the longest days of the summer, when the animals have their young at foot.” It was coincidentally, when most ended up pairing off with someone else but… she’d already decided that that didn’t interest her much. For that, there would have to be someone at the summer meet-ups that caught her eye and there hadn’t been anyone yet- probably never would be, not up in the mountains at least. “Wonderful.” He didn’t sound like he found it all that wonderful, truth be told. If anything, the idea of summer celebrations seemed to piss him off even more than his own people’s. Then, attention back on her, Desolas sighed deeply. “I guess- I think thinking about the celebrations has me wondering how much longer we’ll be able to keep this up.” Keep… this up? What part of this did he even mean? Meeting up? Spending their summers in one another’s company instead of that of their respective families? Or… did he mean the most recent developments - tentative, explorative and endlessly curious - that had become a whole new part of their friendship? He must mean the first. That made the most sense - it was why she dreaded the end of winter too, after all. “We’ll be back next winter.” She reminded him offhandedly. “The summer’s going to be boring but we’ll see each other again when the ice returns, like we always do.”

You were currently sat on the rooftop of the Compound, sitting beside Natasha on the ledge. Your legs dangled off the side of the building as the two of you stared down at the busy city, your fingers intertwined.

You’d been dating Natasha for a few months now and things have been great. She treated you like royalty compared to the assholes you’d dated in the past. 

She was extremely caring and attentive. She didn’t just talk about herself, but she asked about you. Natasha wasn’t out to get anything out of you, she simply wanted your attention and that was something you’d give to her any day. 

Despite being with the redhead for some time now, there was a line you two haven’t crossed yet. You’re probably thinking sex and yeah, you guys definitely hadn’t done that either, but what you had in mind was a more innocent gesture; kissing. 

You’d dated people before Natasha, but those relationships (if you could even call them that), had never lasted long enough to get to that next step.

You turned your head to the side and admired your girlfriend. The sun was setting and the golden glow lit her face up and accentuated her green eyes, little specs of hazel present in her irises. 

ㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤㅤ

She looked ethereal.

Natasha sensed your staring and tilted her head, eyes locking onto yours. There was a small smile on your face and you felt your heart flutter as your eyes fell to her lips. 

“See something you like?” Natasha’s voice never failed to give you butterflies. The rasp behind her deep tone made you feel something you’ve never felt for someone else before; desire. 

“Yeah, actually.” Your eyes remained on her plump lips, instinctively licking your own. Natasha’s eyebrows raised at your blatant staring. 

“Then take it.” The redhead spoke challengingly and you felt a wave of shyness overcome you. You looked up to her eyes once more nervously.

“I would, but I don’t know how to.” Natasha’s flirtatious look turned to one of curiosity. You felt her thumb brush the back of your hand soothingly. 

“Then let me show you.” Natasha slowly leaned forward. She wanted to give you enough time to back away if you changed your mind, but you didn’t.

Instead, you moved toward her and met her lips in the middle. You let out a gasp as her soft lips collided with yours. The gentleness of the movement made you feel lightheaded. 

You could feel how much care the redhead held for you in the kiss. It took you a minute to match Natasha’s pace, but when you did, you felt like you were on Cloud Nine.

You always thought that the descriptions of sparks and all of that jazz in books and movies were fictional, but now? You realized that those works of art never did this scenario justice. 

Sparks? More like fucking lightning during a thunderstorm. Your entire body felt like it was on fire and yearned for more. 

Natasha was the first to break the kiss, much to your dismay. You kept your eyes closed, a blissed-out look plastered across your face. 

The sound of the redhead’s laughter brought you back down to earth. You were met with bright green eyes shining at you happily. You couldn’t help the fit of giggles that erupted from your stomach. 

You felt like a schoolgirl that just had her first kiss during recess with her crush. And in a way, that’s exactly what you were.

“If it makes you feel any better, that was a first for me too.” Natasha spoke as her other hand reached up to tuck a loose strand of hair behind your ear. 

“You’ve never kissed anyone before too?” The Russian’s hand planted itself on your cheek and you leaned into the touch.

Your heart rate increased rapidly at her words. You felt as though words couldn’t describe how grateful you were to have her. 

So, you took advantage of your new alternative; you kissed her again. 

You felt as if you were at an amusement park and were terrified to ride any of the attractions. Until you’d gotten onto a rollercoaster and ended up absolutely loving the adrenaline rush. 

You’d overcome your fear and realized how irrational your worries had been. Terror was replaced with excitement and now you wanted to experience the entirety of the park.

In other words, you wanted everything and anything that had to do with Natasha Romanoff.

madara on his period (comfort! madatobi) - trans! madara ftw, tobirama doesn't realize madara is trans and then ends up taking care of him during his period in a very gay way

Aro Madara (aromantic! madara/reader) - legit that's the name of the doc; I've had this ask/request in my inbox for literally months, I'm so sorry i haven't completed yet, i keep not liking the story i come up with, i haven't written anything in a while, I've just needed an extended hiatus, pls forgive me bb, u know who u are

Biggest Disappointment:

I've got a couple of prompts sitting in my ask box that I know I'm never going to get to. It's hard for me to write when I'm prompted to, especially when I'm not personally vibing with the prompt. I'll probably never do another prompt game, it wasn't a great idea for me to try tbh. Which sucks, because the concept is so fun and I've read so much amazing work born out of prompt games.

Biggest Surprise:

The fact that I wrote any fic at all, let alone smut. I knew I was into the fluffy stuff, I sort of could've predicted that that would come easy to me if I were to try fiction. But to write at all, and then find myself writing porn? Very surprising indeed. Also very surprised to see it as well-received as it was.

My Favorite Part Of Fandom This Year:

Fuckin...I don't know. How do I pick one part? I just really like being here. The fact that I was welcomed in so quickly just to discover that the space is so incredibly supportive was such a delight. I've only been here for like eight or nine months but it felt like I fit right in, and there are few spaces I've entered in my life where that has been the case.

I'm under the impression that this has been going around a lot, so I have no idea who's done this already but I suspect it's everyone. Oh, yes, there was definitely something wistful about Alastair’s tone, but Christopher had never thought himself much good at examining things like that, so he left it alone. If Alastair wished to talk about it, he would. If he wished to tell Christopher, he would.

In that moment, the oddness of the night struck Alastair. He’d spent the past week very intentionally not thinking about Thomas. He knew that if he thought about Thomas for too long, his mind would drift back to the Sanctuary, and then back to Paris, and even back to some of their better days at the Academy. He knew his resolve would crumble and he’d drive himself mad for forcing a wall between them.

Several minutes passed in silence. The click of the door opening and shutting quickly caught Thomas’s attention, and he glanced up to see who had entered.

Alastair didn’t look at Thomas. His eyes found the podium and the chart sitting on it immediately. Mr. AN mumbled the same instructions he’d given to Thomas, and Alastair obeyed, circling his name and slumping into a chair in the first row on the opposite side of the room. Even as Thomas stared at him—he couldn’t help it, he was still in a bit of shock—Alastair didn’t acknowledge him.

i’m gonna work more on all of these tonight (hopefully) but i’m about to get slammed with work because AP tests are coming up in a month and i’m signed up for three :) but i will be doing my best to get at least one chapter of one of these out in the next week! thank you all for your patience lol <333

"Can I ask you something?"

"You just did," Alexandria said, "but you're welcome to ask more."

"Uhm. Well, how do I put this?" Lucien thought aloud to himself. "It's just that you've been dealing with this for quite some time now, correct?"

She nodded.

"Then why are you only now acting so... snappy?"

She frowned deeply at the word, and Lucien wondered if he'd only made the situation worse by asking. Or perhaps his phrasing was insensitive.

"I'm sorry," he scrambled. "I don't mean to upset you more. It's just.. Well, I worry and—"

"It's fine," she interrupted before he could talk himself in circles again. "It's just... not easy to talk about." As she finished cleaning the station, she picked up the pieces of nirnroot and thumbed at the leaves, too distracted to begin making the potion. "I know talking about your feelings is supposed to help, but sometimes... well, it makes them more real. If I keep it to myself, all that happens is a few bouts of panic and bad nights of sleep that I'm usually able to hide well enough, and then it's over. Well, until it happens again, I suppose, but that way it's my problem, no one else's. And I can forget about it and pretend it isn't happening, and it stays there—in my head. When other people know, and when other people are trying to help, it's... different. I don't mean to imply that I'm ungrateful for your support, but in a way, it makes this all harder. Maybe it'll be better in the long term, but I'm not there yet."

The two sat in the silence as those words sank into Lucien's mind. For a moment, he wondered if perhaps things would be better off if they'd left well enough alone. But he shook off the thought easily; things weren't well enough as they were. Alexandria had gotten far too used to struggling on her own, and he'd be damned if he'd let a friend go on like that.

"For what it's worth," he said, carefully considering his words, "it's a burden I'm more than willing to share."

She gave him a small, melancholy smile. "I hope one day I can appreciate that sentiment."

"You know I'll be patient."

"Of course," she said. "How else would you survive being friends with me?"

He laughed. "Can't argue with that."
