Its been a couple weeks since I have come to town for more than a whistle stop. Things have been going along fairly smoothly, but having a Monday morning to plan and reflect is always a great reset @mycoffeeroseburg. I am in a bit of a conundrum though. I am sure anyone in the small milling business knows, or at least in my area it's getting competative out there. I am very thankfully for my repeat customers and referrals, as well a few new professional contacts that keep me going at my current level. My problem right now though is for me to grow I need to add equipment. To add equipment I need to move inventory. I could move said inventory better if I had some finishing equipment. Basically I have the dry inventory if I sold it to add a slabmizer or a board edger. But in I think to move it better I need said equipment. Soooo for know I am stuck in a continues loop! I just had to share these treats from some sweet friends! Sweet Heather over at the @the.lunar.lantern sent me some of the best smelling Visioning Ointment and some pretty herbal tea lights for a trade we recently did. I really love this stuff and have been using it while painting, meditating and before bed. She has a lovely shop with some from the heart offerings. I can't bring myself to burn them yet so they are sitting with a really beautiful Buddha wood block photo print my friend Megan over at @hubbard_gardens made. She has the most beautiful gardens and is also a fabulous photographer. So grateful for these additions to my sacred space. Reposting this one because I want to finish my #selfcareforthesenses series at some pointand it's been a while. This time I'm talking about sight. Now I'm aware that not everyone has the same ability with sight, but if you can use your sight for self care here are some ideas that I have. My first one is Fall leaves. If you're somewhere that the leaves are changing colors I highly recommend looking closely at them, maybe even collecting the ones that you like best, like I do. It can be a very relaxing activity (if you are able to get outdoors; I understand that some of us aren't able to for whatever reason). Pay attention to the differences in color, shape, and size. Maybe take some photos of a leaf bouquet like I did. If Fall leaves aren't your cup of tea try looking for nice pictures with Google or Instagram. My go-tos are sunsets, wildflowers, and cute animals. You can even save a folder of your favorites for when you need that pick-me-up. Other things you could look at are artwork, a pretty jigsaw puzzle as you put it together (I am all about the jigsaw puzzles), a coloring book as you color it, or any nice craft you are making. A couple of weeks ago I organized these beads and found some perfect ones for my cottagecore collection. Sometimes when I buy beads at yard sales or thrift stores or even online they're just all mixed together in a big bag and completely unorganized. We in the jewelry making world like to call this "bead soup". I spent about an hour just relaxing and organizing this big bag of bead soup the other day and found some really cool beads in it, but my favorites are those green and purple ones down in the right corner. They're exactly the right colors for my cottagecore collection! I really love organizing and sorting bead soup is a great mindful distraction from my symptoms like pain too. Not to mention I discovered beads i didn't know I had and it looks so nice when it's all done compared to when I start. Does anyone else love organizing? What are your favorite beads in this photo? "Pro" tip for fellow chronically ill small business people: Do what you can ahead of time to make things as easy as possible for yourself when you pack orders. For me this isn't too time-consuming, because I don't get a whole lot of orders, so I like to pack up 10 bubble mailers in advance with everything except the jewelry and box. They typically last me about 5 months before I have to do it again. I do recommend this if you can do it. Pack your mailers or boxes with business cards, your packing materials like bubble wrap or tissue paper, marketing materials (I have printed thank yous and business cards that I include), and any bonus gifts. Then when you are ready to ship an order all you have to do is add the items that were purchased, maybe wrap them up with bubble wrap and/or tissue paper, seal it, and print a shipping label. Another thing that I do to be ready for orders in advance is to stamp a bunch of kraft paper jewelry boxes with bees and then add washi tape, on days when I'm feeling up to doing just a little. Before I did these things ahead of time it sometimes took me a whole week to finish packing and shipping an order. Now I can do it in a day or two. It saves so much energy on days when I am packing orders. I hope this tip might help some of you in the future.
