My best friend and I have a podcast and right now we are covering The Rings of Power.
I am so disappointed at the amount of negativity I am receiving from “Tolkien Scholars” who think that women don’t have the right to speak on anything Tolkien unless we can speak fluent elvish and have the Simarilion memorized.
Tolkien wasn’t written for you to gatekeep and leave rude, entitled comments about. Our podcast name is “Girls Nerd Out” and that seems to enrage them even more.
And I’ve read the Simarillion.

Did you get a Valentine's Day gift?
I don't think the dismembered goat's heart Sherlock left on the kitchen table was supposed to be a gift. I'm worried about what kind of goat diseases we might get now.
But Mariana and I have exchanged a few chocolates. And Archie gave me a big cuddle, that's a gift too.

My mom and I went to see a ballet, but the director announced that the opening act would be a men’s rights podcaster doing a talk about how to make women want to date you after you’ve rejected them. I walked out of the theatre in disgust, and my mom tried to convince me to come back, saying that the podcaster was only going to be on for an hour.

omg, your podcast episode on Somerton is exploding on youtube. How are you guys handling it? I've followed you for a while and it's wild to see a video suddenly get 80k views when it was impressive for the prior posts to break 1000. Hopefully nothing but good things come of it, but I imagine it's overwhelming!
Overwhelming, YES!
Thank you so much for asking and checking in. We're over 120k now and that's just on YouTube! We've also spiked in several charts on the podcast platforms these last couple of weeks. We actually charted in our 50th country! An exciting achievement, but honestly not the way we wanted it.
We've received an abundance of emails, DMs, comments, etc, and some of them are COMPLETELY ABSURD! Some people have made fun of us or reveled in the fact that we lost money, basically blaming us for not being smarter. Got a really goofy message basically saying we have the ideology of....terrorists?? But the most common criticism we've seen is basically making the "reverse-racism" argument that we're weird, horrible people for pointing out that James Somerton is a cis white guy. So, y'know, that's fun -_-
But despite all this, we've received an overwhelming amount of love and support! The positive far outweighs the negative. And to our surprise and delight, we've only seen 3 acephobic comments directed at us and/or the community so far. One of those comments was the good-ol' trifecta of acephobia, transphobia, and ableist, go figure, but given how big our episode got, this is PROGRESS! We don't recall ever seeing anything Ace-related to get this much attention but receive this little hate.
We watched the apology video and despite it being an objectively bad apology video...we're a little messed up and very concerned about the implication that James attempted to take his own life. Then he deleted the video, and never sent the promised email to Telos supporters. We, of course, have our own thoughts, feelings, frustrations, and even unique observations that were never mentioned in the original episode, but for now we've decided to keep these to ourselves.
We genuinely hope for his healing, and after this week's episode, we are unlikely to ever speak about him publicly again.

Another A.N.I.M. Interview!
Another A.N.I.M. interview! This one was actually recorded back in March, and it’s my first-ever audio interview, so I apologize for my public speaking skills lol
The major takeaway I think from this interview is that when you spend money on a rulebook and/or adventure module, the burden should not fall on you to make the experience good. You should be able to rely on the rulebook to do a huge chunk of, if not most, of the work in a session. The rulebook should be providing a sturdy platform for the GM and players to stand on while they build their story, and ideally provide hammers, nails, screws, glue, paint, wood, scaffolding, cement, etc. for them to work with, and an adventure module should provide a structure at least half-built for them to work from, instead of making them put effort into just treading water while they also have to do all the other work.
If “listening for local rumors” is something a PC could feasibly do in an RPG, the rulebook should come with at least a DC to determine how difficult that is, so that the GM doesn’t have to make up a DC on the fly, then also determine what success or failure means on the fly.

I'm moving in today. That should be done pretty quickly. I don't have much to pack, everything fits in a suitcase and a cardboard box. Lucas is probably overjoyed that I'm no longer occupying his sofa. Finally, a bed just for myself. Some long-needed proper rest. My aching back will be grateful.

10 Years
Our 10 year anniversary is coming up next week, and we're planning to record a podcast episode to discuss the life changes and milestones we've experienced together!
If we also did a lil Q&A, what questions do you have for an Asexual (ace-ace) married couple of a decade?
Leave a note or drop us an ask!
