hey do you know if there is a character guide or something similar for people who haven't watched previous seasons? or is it pretty easy to work out who the equivalents are compared to the original norwegian version? thanks! 💛
Hi Anon!
I’ll give you a quick rundown right now! But keep in mind in Skam España the characters are not 100% equivalent to the og, and some Skam España characters combine two characters from the og:
Eva Vázquez - Eva Mohn
Jorge Crespo - Jonas Vasquez
Lucas Rubio - Isak Valtersen and Eskild Tryggvasson
Inés Serrano - Ingrid Gaupseth
Cris Soto - Chris Berg and Isak Valtersen
Joana Bianchi - Even Næsheim
Rubén - Emma Larzen (he’s also one of Dani’s friends, he was in the trailer so he’ll probably make an appearance in this season)
Nora Grace - Noora Sætre
Alejandro Beltrán - William Magnusson
Miquel Pombo - William Magnusson, Nikolai Magnusson (maybe they’ll talk about him)
Emma Grace - original character, maybe an Eskild too? (maybe they’ll talk about her, she’s Nora’s sister)
Viri Gómez - Vilde Hellerud
Hugo Centeno - Magnus Fossbakken
Dilan - Mahdi Disi
Amira Naybet - Sana Bakkoush, Jonas Vasquez to Cris (she and Cris are best friends since childhood)
Dani Soto - Yousef Acar? Elias Bakkoush? Both? (Cris’ brother, he debuted in Season 2 and has appeared in all seasons since)

World of Dance: The Cut pt 1
So it’s ‘The Cut’ and not the cuts, which sounds a whole lot more imposing without the s. Basically, we will go from 5 acts to 2 in each division. All acts will perform, and the two highest scorers will go through. Misty Copeland will also guest judge this round. The judges will also speak to each act in an appointed division and comment on their rehearsals. (What does Jenna do now though?)
JUNIOR DIVISION - mentored by JLo
Diana - I like how she changed out her usual routines of leg lifts and technical jumps and did some smaller movements. Still, she showed her flexibility, like the helicopter chinstand move. Some of the transitions could have been better choreographed (who choreographs her dances? I’d like to know) but this is my favourite routine of hers so far. Average: 92
Immabeast - we barely saw these kids in the last two rounds. They are a hip hop group and perform some burglary-themed number which is heavily edited (read: truncated. This show needs to hire a new editing team.) They are not as sharp as the Lab, you can tell. Average: 84.2
The Mihacevich Sisters - They bring a couch into their routine and danced on/around it consistently. JLo told them in mentoring that she wanted to see more connection. I think when you bring such a domestic prop into a dance, you need to have some compelling story-telling in your dance, and I’m not sure they had that. It was kind of just like the sisters chilling at home and decide to dance. I agree with Derek though that it’s refreshing to see a happy, joyous contemporary act. Average: 85.5
The Lab - They call JLo an “older era artist”. Haha. They come out in this silvery sci-fi-ish suits with some spinldy sets as well. It’s really entertaining. One or two members were out of sync doing the flips at the end. Mini Cameron Boyce cannonballs out right in front of the judges. Average: 86. I liked them more than Diana though. Even if you really think she is better than The Lab (which is debatable) I don’t think their scores should be thaaaaat far apart. JLo literally scored them ten points below Diana. I feel like JLo is subconsciously partial towards Diana.
Eva - she’s using a cloak in her dance to represent her insecurities. JLo helped her connect to the emotions she wants to deal with in her routine. She comes out of some projection trees looking like little purple riding hood. I don’t know if this was intended or a coincidence, but she had a gold costume and a purple cloak, and these colors together have a regal connotation. I was hoping only one of Eva or Diana would progress to the divisional finals along with the Lab, but halfway through this dance I had to accept that Eva would definitely knock the Lab out of second and possibly Diana out of first. This is my favourite of her dances too, and in general her routines are far more well choreographed than Diana’s. The connections and transitions are better - there is almost no arbitrary running across stage. And Eva performs with a lot of strength and power. Average: 92.5
TEAM DIVISION - mentored by NeYo
Swing Latino - They have casual party costumes instead of the sparkle spam this time. I found the beginning and end a bit all over the place, not in technique but in the sense that there was a lot going on and everyone was doing something different. But the middle where they were all dancing together was enjoyable as always. Average: 92.5 I didn’t think it would be that high. Are they just overscoring the first acts or something?
Super Cr3w - They are trying to bring emotion into this dance and dedicate it to various loved ones who they have lost. I think some members were better at showing the vulnerability and emotion than others. Their movements less hard hitting than usual to go with the idea and the song (which is James Bay’s Let it Go, like, did you ever expect to see a b-boy number to such a song??). There was a lightness to their dancing. I like how they switched things up from their usual style. Some parts weren’t very cohesive though. Like towards the end, they all broke into groups and started doing their own things. Also, the smoke was super arbitrary. Average: 88.8
We will see the rest of the teams plus the Uppers next week. I predict Kinjaz will overtake at least Super Cr3w, but I doubt Team With The Incredibly Long And Cheesy Name aka Ian Eastwood and the Young Lions (phew!) will progress to the next round unless they come up with something reeeeeaaaaaally creative, which I don’t see them doing. I can’t remember who the last team is. For the uppers, some of the promo seemed to suggest Fik-Shun underperforms (yikes) but this is the same show that edited their promo to suggest tapper Kyle would beat the Twins so...here’s hoping.
What are your thoughts about the Cut so far? I think The Lab should have made it instead of Diana, but Eva deserved her place. Feel free to drop your thoughts into my inbox, and I’ll see you all next week.

World of Dance- Judges’ Cuts Part 1: Rankings
I’m kind of late with this and I apologize. I was at work and I’ve also been trying to figure out the best way for me to present this since the format of last night was not ideal. I finally decided I would just rank them in the places that I enjoyed them and not split them up by division. Also, I already explained a lot of my issues with last night in a bunch of answers to your questions as well as my live blog. So I’ll keep this part short. I just don’t think we needed both Diana and Eva in the divisional finals. I knew it was going to happen, I just wish they had allowed The Lab to be scored properly (and not scored Diana so high). More on that in the rankings. Anyway, here we go.
1. The Lab- This was my favorite routine of the night. They did everything that they needed to do and honestly, it should have been enough to get them through. But it wasn’t and my heart breaks for them. They put a lot into it and really gave it their all. I don’t have much else to say, really. It was just great and they should still be around.
2. Swing Latino- I’m glad Swing Latino switched it up a bit. The lack of sparkles was a nice and welcome change. The setting and staging was also different and it showed that they were telling a story. I really appreciated them for taking that risk. As far as the dancing goes, I mean they’re always perfect. The energy was super high and those tricks! I didn’t think they could get any better until I saw them throw one of the ladies 20 feet into the air. They’re so good and I think it may be them and Kinjaz in the divisional finals for teams.
3. The Mihacevich Sisters- I really liked this dance. I thought it was cute and a lot different than what we’re so used to seeing with contemporary nowadays. Especially on this show. It was nice to see a contemporary dance that was actually a dance and not a series of poses, displays of flexibility, gymnastics passes and tumbles and angst ridden faces. I really enjoyed it and I would have been happy if these girls took the place of either Diana or Eva. I think they’ve shown more versatility, for sure.
4. ImmaBEAST- We didn’t get to see much of them because the show has been shafting them since day 1. But what I did see, I enjoyed. I like their energy and their choreography. It was really cute. I would like for them to maybe come back next season but I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t. They really got the short end of the stick and no one knew them on the show.
5. Eva Igo- Well I guess I have to give Eva credit for changing up things just a little bit. She added a cape, some trees and different strange moves that were kinda cool. But I’m really just tired of this kind of contemporary. It’s not appealing to me and it feels fake and forced. Again, I appreciate that she changed it up a bit. But at the end of the day, it still looked like everything else she’s done, and I just don’t really care about it.
6. Diana Pombo- These last three I was going back and forth on because I really didn’t enjoy any of their performances. I ended up putting Diana here, purely because I like her as a person. I didn’t really care for this dance and I actually felt it may have been her weakest showing all competition. The emotion was there though. I think that really put her over the top in the judges’ eyes. Because without that, the routine was very blah. Also, I really don’t need to hear “Rise Up” by Andra Day ever again.
7. Super Cr3w- I appreciated these guys for stepping so far out of their comfort zone and really challenging themselves, it’s a risk that probably won’t pay off in this competition, but probably will help them grow as dancers and men in the long run. The lyrical hip hop stuff can be cool and really stunning if done well. Unfortunately for them, I don’t think it actually came together. It just felt sort of aimless at times.
That’s that. Let me know how you all felt about this week and I will be back for part 2 next week.

How are you dealing with a large family? I wish I had four arms because there are times when I miss them and I feel a little helpless that I can't take care of my boys in the same way at the same time. There are also times when this is a problem, for example, when you are driving a car with all four, you put them on, take them out etc. But it's also a lot of fun then. You are definitely not bored ... I can't, we're having a great time, we try to do a lot of things together. I learn a lot from them and they enjoy it because I always try different things. My kids think I'm a magician and go crazy. This innocence makes me have a great time with them. You didn't want a girl? Honestly, no. It doesn't matter if they are boys or girls, everyone has a different personality. I have four sons, but each of them is different. I'm not bored and it's not that I wanted more, I think four is enough. Máximo Adriano is 3 months old, what is the secret of such a quick recovery? There is no secret. These are all the things that are good for me, that I find beneficial and that I've spent a lot of time on. I always share them with all my followers and I don't want it to be any secret. I have said it many times: it's a balanced diet, sports and, above all, continuity. This is the foundation that I have been working on before getting pregnant and I think that's why my body reacted in a way that thanked me for taking so much care during pregnancy. What is beauty to you? Beauty is a state of mind to me. You have to feel good both outside and inside. When you take care of yourself, when you rest, when you have a good diet and activity throughout the day, ultimately it has a good effect. Much has been said about your "bad relationship" with your sister-in-law Lorena Gómez. What's the truth? Very good, our relationship is very good and I believe controversy is generated where it does not exist. Fortunately, we are a very close family, we love each other very much, we admire each other a lot and we always support each other, so there is nothing to talk about. A few weeks ago, María Pombo said she had to seek psychological help, opening up a debate about media pressure. How do you deal with haters? I laugh a lot when I see things on social media. People are there to express their opinions, but I keep doing my life and working and enjoying my life. I don't have time to harass anyone. Fortunately, it doesn't affect me, I enjoy my family, my work and I have a lot of people who help me a lot. In short, I can say that social media have brought me only good things. Do negative comments affect you? I like social media and I also love getting feedback from people who follow me. Especially since they are always good things in general: they help me, I like to see that I can help them too and I am very happy to be present on social media. It's also true that I do it in an impulsive way, that's what my platform is for and in the end you reach people who may not have direct access to things that I research. So I guess if I can share it why not do it. What's the best and worst fame side? I've been working on TV for 25 years, I'm walking down the street and people recognize me, it's a very beautiful thing and I thank them with all my heart. The bad thing is that there may be moments of intimacy that you don't have, but since people always come up with great affection, I appreciate it. What will you say about 2020? This year has had very bad things, undesirable things and I hope things get better next year. But I had very beautiful things, Máximo Adriano was born, which is the best news I could have and we are all healthy, fighting and working to get it all back to normal. It's Christmas soon. How are you going to celebrate it this year? Well, I don't know, let's see what the Government tells us. What would you like to ask for the new year? I would like to ask for an end of this pandemic, for health for everyone. And, above all, for people, who are having a bad time, can move forward. What is your dream to come true? The truth is that I'm very happy with everything I have, I'm happy and I think I'm very lucky. It would be my dream to continue working successfully each day.

Lace, watermelon, Sappho?
- lace - if you own any dresses, which is your favorite?
An aquamarine one I stole from my sister >:3 It’s the perfect length and the colour is so pretty!!
Watermelon I answered here :)
- sapphos - favorite poet?
I’m not very good with poetry, but the only one that has actually “touched my soul” is a Spanish poet called Miguel Hernández. His poetry has so much longing, it breaks my heart.
Unless you count children’s poetry, then my favorite is a Colombian poet called Rafael Pombo. I love his poems, the rhymes are always so fun!

(the morning after Molly literally kicked Hank out of his bed in the middle of the night and claimed it as her own like a bite-sized buccaneer)
Me: (entering the kitchen for coffee, only one eye open)
Hank: (sitting up in the guest room/my office bed, sipping hot chocolate gazing out the window)
Me: Good morning, Hank.
Hank: Good morning, mama! Do you want to make your coffee and meet me in here?
Me: I do! (push the correct buttons, add coffee and go stand in the doorway of the guest room/my office which is off the kitchen) How did you sleep after being so abruptly evicted from your own bed last night?
Hank: Honestly, that was the funniest thing that has ever happened to me.
Me: You’re such a good sport when it comes to Molly. I know it isn’t always easy having a three year old sister.
Hank: I love her so much it is easier than you think.
Me: You are Molly’s best big brother. (pausing to collect my coffee and enter the guest room/my office to sit on the opposite end of the bed from Hank) But you were warm enough? You slept well?
Hank: Mom, last night was the best. I love this room so much and I woke up without an alarm with the rain on the windows and I watched that for a long time before I got up and made myself a hot chocolate and the best part was I didn’t have to be quiet, I was able to turn the light on and not worry about waking up Amália and I didn’t have to use the light from my phone to find my slippers. I know we were talking about moving me to this room after Uncle Jesse’s visit, but mom, I mean I will wait, but do I have to go back? Can I just sleep in here until Uncle Jesse comes and then after?
Me: (realizing my kids are ready to have separate spaces and so grateful for the privilege to give them their own spaces) Well, Molly made it clear last night that she was ready to take over your big bed! Your bed has been proper hijacked.
Hank: She was so funny! I couldn’t stop laughing!
Me: She literally kicked you out of your bed then fell asleep.
Hank: And she slept all night?
Me: YES! I assumed she would be scared to sleep alone since you two have always shared a room, but she was fine. Not a peep!
Hank: Molly is brave, mom, she’s not like me.
Me: You’re also brave, Hank, no two people are alike and you will be brave for Molly in ways she isn’t able to be brave for you!
Hank: Are you okay with giving up your office? You can still use the desk when I am at school!
Me: Don’t you worry about me, pal. I can work anywhere.
Hank: I love this room. It is so cozy and special and I have been watching the pombos (pigeons) flying around and the swans over at the Casa (estate) across the street and everyone going into the hospital and to the bus stop; it’s just so peaceful. I understand why you love this room so much.
Me: (smiling and nodding)
Hank: This room just feels good.
Me: I’ve written two novels and countless children’s books in this room. I’ve written every single conversation for my blog, a clutch of travel articles, illustrated Billy Blankenstooth and made hundreds of drawings, day dreamed, emailed… I have worked here every day for the past six years and loved every minute.
Hank: No wonder I love it so much.

After arriving at Entebbe international airport at 10pm we had a long wait for the flight, which departed at 2.45, or ridiculous o’clock as I like to call these times. Why on earth anyone would want to serve curry for “dinner” at such an hour is beyond me and for essentially a 2 hour flight. If that was bad, then the 5 hours spent trying to curl up and sleep on an airport chair wasn’t great. It didn’t so much happen, roll on another 4 hour flight to Lusaka and I gave up trying and delved into a couple of movies. Tag and The House with Clocks in the Wall. I was disappointed I couldn’t finish that before the plane landed.
Farewells were fleeting as my travelling compadre took a different exit for his connecting flight to SA and I was finally through “no man’s” land and into Lusaka arrivals. Three cases, a satchel and a rucksack. Enough shoes dear? Not quite! More like a heavy, but small easel and copious tubes of oils. How could I not?
The only thing I need to source is canvas and gesso. Thank god I didn’t pack them too after the copious baggage charges. I’m eager to start some new work, but I’m not going to force the issue, it will flow when I’m ready, that much I’ve learnt.
I indulged in one of my favourite concessions whilst I waited for my lift and the kind porter who kept check of my luggage as I went to buy a new SIM card, returned at points to make sure I was ok. Red cappuccino, or Redbush (May be more familiar) made into cappuccino…it’s the best, especially with a dash of honey!
Finally I was found by Kosamu, Gwabi’s driver. He was having vehicle repairs done and running various errands for the lodge. He didn’t remember me from the last time, but a lot of them do. It’s lovely, it’s like coming home to a big family and that’s in no way dismissing mine. It’s just like a little hub of loveliness. It was around 2.5-3 hours on the road to the river, the skies darkened quickly as we drove through a small downpour. Probably needed as the rains in Zambia haven’t been very substantial this year.
I arrived around 7.30, via the little village of Chirundu; only it wasn’t the Chirundu I’m used to. Street light, malls, a shoprite, Hungry Lion, neon flashing signs. It wasn’t quite Vegas, but for Chirundu and especially by night, it was looking quite different.
The last time I was here, the novelty was a small ice cream shop amidst the market stalls. Apparently that still remains and no doubt I will see it by day at some point. Another thing that startled me, was the amount of casinos that have popped up. It has a correlation with the development of resurfaced roads.
I struck it lucky in that I was given a late supper when I arrived. We had a brief catch up of the events over the last few years and one by one people dispersed. Once again I was somehow last man standing after a very interesting conversation with Troy who runs Mombashi safari camp. Some 116kms down stream.
I remember him from last time and for the story he told me of not being able to leave his house for two days, due to a leopard camping out on his doorstep. We cover a whole range of subjects from conservation to the latest croc attacks. Rule of thumb established is, stay away from the water. Even at the waters edge, they can grab you from nowhere. There is a rather large one at the watering hole in between camps. I went today to try and catch a glimpse, from a good distance I hasten to add and even despite that distance, I felt tentative. You don’t mess with these ruthless feckers. That said, I still can’t see them farmed for their meat or skin. If anything, you have to have a slight admiration for these toothy survival specialists.
Sleep was deep and I struggled to get going in the morning. I woke shaking. Probably a combination of fatigue and dehydration, never a good mix. I started with a walk around the grounds and camp which led to the ascent of a rugged steep hill, eventually I cut off taking a path through some bushveld, then back down the main track to the lodge. I came across the baby duiker Pombo, who despite never having met, ran up to me to check me out and no doubt, whether I came baring food.
As I video call my mum later, she happens to be with my sister and her family. I do a quick tour of the lodge and views, then go off to see if I can find Pombo. Perfectly timed, he comes racing towards me. It’s nice to be able to show my family these sights and what Africa has. I wish I could share more closely, real time, what it’s all about. My three year old niece loves animals and if I can assist in bringing that love out further, by introducing new animals, especially in the wild, then all is good. Connection is the first part of caring and thereafter if you care, you will protect. We all need protecting sometimes, but we need to instill in the next generation the mindset of a carer and protector in order to preserve what we have around us. Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of sentience.
I’ve been given the job of feeding the hatchery. We have four what we suspect are tiny blue waxbills and three older guineafowl chicks. The story goes that they were rescued from a roadside vendor selling them at 2 kwatcha per chick, around 13p. It still happens, it’s not right and if they could be confiscated without payment, to break the normality of selling animals like that, it would be ideal; however this is something Africa has yet to deal with.
The waxbills need feeding a formula every couple of hours and one of the guinea fowl unfortunately has a lame leg. I’ve been trying to gently get it moving again with gentle manipulation. I call him poppet for now, as that seems to be how I address him, possibly her. I guess it’s a relatively gender neutral term of affection…. I haven’t seen my owl friend yet, but I’m hoping he’ll pop by soon!
As the sunset on the evening and the river reflected the colours of the sky, I knew I’d made the right decision to come back out here. I’ve an new open book, with blank pages to be filled. As my questions are answered and as I live out my life, the pages will fill and the book will flow.
Anyway, I somehow agreed to go running in the morning at 0530, so maybe I’d best put the lights out!

This is strange, but if we consider the purpose of a UN Biosphere Reserve, and then consider the agenda of the trump administration to degrade environmental protection and enhance use of land by extractive industries (oil, gas, coal, mining), ranchers and farmers, and to some extent, hunters, then the delisting makes logical sense. Logical, not right.
First, what is a “Biosphere Reserve?” The program is administered by UNESCO, through the UN. A biosphere reserve is an internationally designated protected area that is intended to demonstrate a balanced relationship between people and nature, and encourage sustainable development. This might be a better description, extracted from the EcoWatch article:
As detailed by the conservation nonprofit George Wright Society, the biosphere program was launched in the 1970s to establish internationally designated protected areas, help minimize the loss of biological diversity, raise awareness on how cultural diversity and biological diversity affect each other, and promote environmental sustainability.
Under all circumstances, ownership, management, governance of the biosphere reserve site remains with the country in which each site is located. There is no international governance, but there are guidelines associated with the biosphere reserve status.
Prior to this delisting, there were 47 biosphere reserve sites in the US. Here are maps telling us where they are, including the delisted ones:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The ones removed are located all over. Some appear to be in or close to areas where the oil and gas industry is interested in developing.
Aleutian Islands National Wildlife Refuge - US Fish & Wildlife Service
Beaver Creek Experimental Watershed - US Forest Service
California Coast Ranges - University of California Natural Reserve System
Carolinian South-Atlantic - Non-Game and Heritage Trust (South Carolina)
Central Plains Experimental Range - USDA Agricultural Research Service
Coram Experimental Forest - US Forest Service
Desert Experimental Range - US Forest Service
Fraser Experimental Forest - US Forest Service
H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest - US Forest Service / Oregon State University
Hubbard Brook - US Forest Service
Konza Prairie Research Natural Area - Kansas State University
Land Between the Lakes - US Forest Service
Niwot Ridge Mountain Research Station - University of Colorado
Noatak National Preserve - National Park Service
Stanislas-Tuolumne Experimental Forest - US Forest Service
Three Sisters Wilderness - US Forest Service
Virgin Islands - National Park Service
The issue might be related to the alt-right, extreme right wing segments of our society. National Geographic (here’s the link to the article) suggests the following analysis:
Vernon Gilbert, a former UNESCO official and the head of the non-profit U.S. Biosphere Reserves Association, says that beginning in the late 1990s, some U.S. advocacy groups and politicians decried the program as a threat to U.S. property rights and sovereignty.
The blowback hamstrung the country’s participation in UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme, which designates the reserves. A 2005 Congressional investigation into the affiliated U.S. program, spearheaded by Congressman Richard Pombo (R-CA), didn’t help matters.
In recent years, Gilbert says that the U.S. has renewed participation in the program. However, after more than a decade of relative inaction, some of the U.S. reserves were behind on meeting UNESCO guidelines and review schedules, leading some to decide for now against maintaining the designation.
Then there’s this, from the infamous Alex Jones:
“Neither Congress, nor any state legislature, has ever voted to approve any of the 47 UN Biosphere Reserves in the United States. The management policy for millions of acres covered by these reserves is crafted by international committees of bureaucrats, none of whom is elected. To comply with ‘international obligations,’ the United States conforms its management policy and, in some cases. its law to accommodate the wishes of bureaucrats that are completely unknown to the people who are governed by the policies,” Lamb insists.
“This reality is but a hint of what is in store for those governed by the rule of international law. Massive documents, such as the 1140-page ‘Global Biodiversity Assessment,’ the 300-page ‘Agenda 21,’ and the 410-page ‘Our Global Neighborhood,’ all paint a picture of the international law that is being devised to govern the world in the 21st century.” (For more information visit www.eco.freedom.org .)

World of Dance: the Duels #1
Alright, we’re starting to see more of Jenna. She spoke to all the contestants about their artistic choices and also gave her input.
How the duels work
The highest scorer in each category will pick who they want to face in the duels. The one who chooses dances first and is scored first, then the second dancer performs and is scored. Both scores are revealed together and whoever has the highest score goes through to the next round and the loser is eliminated.
The rankings for Upper category after the qualifying round are:
1. Les Twins 2. Fik-shun 3. Pasion* 4. Nick Daniels 5. Luka and Jennalyn 6. Quick Style 7. DNA 8. Keone and Mari 9. Kyle Van Newkirk* 10. Kings Unite*
For Team Category:
1. Kinjaz 2. Swing Latino 3. Chapkis Dance Family* 4. Super Cr3w 5. Jabbawockeez 6. Ian Eastwood & the Young Lions 7. Royal Flux* 8. Rouge* 9. Miami All Stars 10. Stroll Groove* 11. Rhythmatic*
In Junior category:
1. The Lab 2. Diana Pombo 3. D’Angelo and Amanda 4. Eva Igo 5. Mihacevich Sisters 6. Kyntay* 7. The Posse* 8. Immabeast* 9. Boys of Tenecula* 10. Mini Request*
(contestants marked * are those whose full qualifier dances were not shown)
Got that? Here we go...
Fik-shun vs Nick They skipped over Les Twins this week so we move on to Fik-shun first. Fik-shun picked Nick so they would go soloist against soloist. They also both have a thing for tattered shirts. I just noticed that Nick has really prominent double eyelids that make him look sleepy sometimes. I think Nick has a more immediate “wow” factor because of his flexibility and the acrobatics, but his routine was more similar to his qualifying one, except with more tricks. Also, he always lifts his left leg. And Wicked Games is a nice song but ever since Amy and Travis’ SYTYCD routine it’s been overused in contemporaries. I do like this female version though. Fik-shun’s dance was a little more compact but was very interesting, like when he arched his back on the floor and like used his hand as a lever to shift his body around, and how the last few bars of the routine mirrored the first a bit. Nick - 87.7, Fik-shun - 90.7
Swing Latino vs Miami All Stars Again skipping the #1 team, we pit latin team against latin team. Holy crap! These two teams pulled all the stops. Swing Latino was like a cheerleading team with latin background on steroids. I expected tricks, but NOT LIKE THAT. WHAT DID I EVEN SEE? THAT LAST TRICK??? WHAT?? Miami All Stars went with a swing style item and had really cute costumes. I loved this dance so much more than their qualifier one. I think they matched Swing Latino’s energy, where Swing Latino had every dancer moving all the times, a lot of Miami All Stars’ choreo was 1-2 dancers doing tricks in the front while everyone else was like an ensemble doing simpler group movements at the back. Derek covers his eyes before the scores haha. I get the feel, man. Swing Latino - 91.7, Miami All Stars - [88.3]
Eva Igo vs Kyntay For some reason, Kyntay go first even though Eva picked them...idk. They sound so cute when they say “thank you” together. Anyway, Kyntay are these two girls who are really popular on social media and have performed with Janet Jackson. They’re outfits look amazing! Where can I get one of those tops? I think Eva had a greater frequency of wow moments in her item. That said, I think Kyntay’s dance was choreographed to show more musicality whereas Eva had lots of tricks but I didn’t always felt like they were well connected. The leg lifts got a bit repetitive, but I like how her style doesn’t evolve a lot of wrought angst expressions and throwing limbs around. Kyntay - 82.7, Eva - 89. I don’t think they were THAT far apart.
Quick Style vs Keone and Mari They were the last ones who weren’t picked yet so they were left to duel with each other. These two groups are friends and Keone and Mari were Quick Style’s teachers. Now that they mention that, you can see some similarities - the cleanliness, the sharpness of movement. I dunno how they decided who would go first, but Keone and Mari do. The choreo was really smart, showing disconnect between two people even though they are dancing together. It’s slower but more emotional and deep than their qualifier. They have a smart game plan to up their story telling through each round of competition and I think that’s smart. Quick Style is apparently the “dopest boyband [Derek has] ever seen”. They had a lot precision in this dance, lots of simple but fast moves that created interesting visual effects. I think they have better clenliness and precision than K+M’s qualifying dance because while it was fast, there’s wasn’t too much going on. Keone and Mari - 91.3, Quick Style - 89.3. I’m gonna miss Quick Style, but I agree that K+M had better artistic choices here.
I think there are two more Duels episodes. From the promos, it seems like Chapkis and Immabeast get through (since there are shots of them cheering and their costumes look different). There’s DNA against Luka and Jennalyn and Nyle (the tapper) against Les Twins - which seems like an interesting pick on the twins’ part. If anyone noticed anything else do let me know! Just pop in the inbox.

Site recalls the career of Moraes Moreira who died on Monday (13)
Died in Rio de Janeiro at dawn this Monday (13th), the singer and composer Moraes Moreira, the artist was 72 years old and the cause of death has not yet been disclosed. Speaking to G1, the singer's brother, Eduardo Moraes, stated that neither he nor the sisters know exactly what happened. Moraes Moreira's body was found on Monday morning in his apartment, according to Eduardo Moraes, the artist lived alone.
Story
The artist who actually called himself Antonio Carlos Moreira Pires began his artistic career playing accordion at festivities in São João and other events in his hometown Ituaçu, located in the interior of Bahia.
He was born on July 8, 1947. As a teenager, he started playing the guitar, at the same time that he attended a science course in Caculé, a city located in the southeast of Bahia. In 1967.
New baianos
When he was 19 years old, he moved to Salvador, in the capital of Bahia, and started studying at the Music Seminary of the Federal University of Bahia. Where he met Luz Galvão; Paulinho Boca de Cantor (future companions in the New Mutants) and also met the musician Tom Zé.
In 1968, the group created a show that originated the Novos Baianos. In the meantime, the group already had the singer Baby do Brasil (Baby Consuelo at the time) and the guitarist Pepeu Gomes.
With this formation, the group participated in the popular Festival of Brazilian Popular Music on TV in 1969.
“Iron on the doll”
In 1970 the group released their first album entitled “Ferro na Boneca”. However, it was only two years later that the musical group established itself in the market with the album “Acabou Chorare”. where you mixed different styles like rock and bossa nova.
The musician remained with Novos Baianos from 1969 until 1975, when he launched his solo career.
In 1976 he went on to become the first singer to join an electric trio, when he joined the electric trio of Dodô and Osmar and sang the song “Pombo Correio”, a great success at the time. The singer, instrumentalist and composer promoted in 1997 a meeting of Novos Baianos to launch a live record called Infinito Circular, the disc had songs from the band's previous works in addition to new compositions.
In 2007, Moraes Moreira published the book written in cordel format A História dos Novos Baianos and Other Verses. In recent years he participated in meetings with Novos Baianos and did solo work. He also partnered with his son, guitarist Davi Moraes; Pepeu Gomes and the Trio Elétrico Dodô e Osmar. In March 2020 he last posted on Instagram, in the publication he talked about the quarantine faced by the planet because of the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus.
