Let's make a pond to contemplate. Stand around and peer into it, maybe even take out a little canoe. Water and thick bottom gluppy mud ooze are already included.

In high school, some 15+ years ago now, I helped my friends across the street (who were practically my brothers) dig a massive pond that took up most of their available backyard. It's deep enough I can't touch the bottom, holds well in excess of 10k gallons. The younger kid inherited about a dozen big, old koi from his uncle when he passed, and the 500g pond they had just wouldn't cut it.
Their father (My Other Dad) took it on as his pride and joy when the kids moved out, and it has become more and more beautiful each passing year. I went to visit today, and brought with me offerings of water lettuce, duckweed, and water spangles. My own little pond had gotten completely covered in the stuff, so I cleared it all into a tub and drove it over. It was a joy to toss into their pond and watch the big boys come up for treats.
To my delight, most of the original ones are still in there. Harley, the biggest of the group, had passed away a few years after the move, as did Penny and more recently Milky. But I saw Red Army, Sunny, Ghost, Siegfried, Roy, BB, and Angel, as well as a lot of offspring that had clearly come from Penny and Milky. My Other Dad is planning on doing an auction soon to sell some of the kids off and clear some space. If I get to help, I will definitely be sharing photos. The last time we did a big sale, it was a lot of fun.
