Shelob, a replica of a Porrhothele antipodiana owned by @marks_tarantulas is finished. It is this specie, a New Zealand funnel web spider, Peter Jackson chose to use as Shelob in the The Lord of the Rings movies. He hates them even they are not as aggressive as the Australian funnel web spiders and their bite is not as venomous either. It's a very strange looking spider, everything on them except for the abdomen has a polished sheen that makes the carapace look like it's made of lacquer and the legs look like licorice. So I used glitter yarn to make the carapace and the chelicerae shine and I lacquered each over with clear and black nail polish. For the legs and the pedipalps I covered pipe cleaners with paper tape to make them smooth and then I painted them with black nail polish. I have bought some teeny tiny super magnets and I have glued one on the middle of the sternum so the miniatures can be placed on any kind of metal surfaces. These tiny magnets are strong enough to hold them in place! These strong super magnets have to be handled with care and when I ship items internationally, which is by airline, I have to wrap each item in lots of bubble wrap. Magnets on aeroplanes is a safety hazard because when a magnet field is strong enough it can influence the electronics in the aeroplane and in worst case make it fall down!
