I heart Posy and am sad she was cut from the movies (Hazelle too)

But it's Posy, Gale's five-year-old sister, who helps the most. She scoots along the bench to Octavia and touches her skin with a tentative finger. “You're green. Are you sick?”

“It's a fashion thing, Posy. Like wearing lipstick,” I say.

“It's meant to be pretty,” whispers Octavia, and I can see the tears threatening to spill over her lashes. Posy considers this and says matter-of-factly, “I think you'd be pretty in any color.” The tiniest of smiles forms on Octavia's lips. “Thank you.”

“If you really want to impress Posy, you'll have to dye yourself bright pink,” says Gale, thumping his tray down beside me. “That's her favorite color.” Posy giggles and slides back down to her mother.

I shall never forgive the Capitol for using Posy's voice against Katniss in one of the jabberjays in the arena. I don't know why it's worse than using Prim to me. I guess because Posy is a baby. It's just pretend torture but... why would you think torturing a five-year-old is totally normal?

So I know in the age of the Hunger Games renaissance we have a lot of post-war Katniss and Peeta parenting headcanons however, I’d like to take a moment to talk about their FRIENDSHIPS post war new and old because I love them and they deserve the best support systems.

- One of Greasy Sae’s grandchildren, a scrawny dark-haired man, who asks to be apprenticed in Peeta’s bakery since the coal mines are no longer safe to work in. A quiet man, with a lot of love in his heart for iced cakes, since his daughter likes to look at them in wonder through the glass.

- Johanna Mason and Katniss having four-hour long phone calls AT LEAST once a week.

- a poorer capitol couple who always dreamed of life in a smaller town end up buying one of Victor’s Houses. They’re nervous to say the least, but Peeta helps them settle in the town and Katniss eventually helps them to get comfortable in the woods. When their dog has puppies, the couple gifts them two.

- Gale never returns to District 12, but his siblings, Rory and Posy do. A friendship that’s sparked by reminiscing about cold mornings is now fueled by hot summer evenings, and bonfires, and roasted apples and singing.

- Peeta and Katniss visiting Annie in District three and swimming at the beach with her.

- Delly Cartwright rushing to the bakery to relay the gossip she just happened to hear at the post office.

- Haymitch’s house not being in a fit state, so Katniss and Peeta helping him to host his Senior Veterans’s support group at theirs.

- Speaking of veterans, Katniss’s mother visiting with one, a second-hand ring on her finger. He’s from District 11, a towering battle-scarred soldier but his eyes betray the people he’s lost in his time. His gravelly speaking voice would scare away even the tamest birds, but his hands coax rainbows out of the ground and Katniss is proud of her mother for being happy.

Now, I don’t think Katniss would ever get a full time job, with her mental health and Capitol stipend. I also don’t think she would become a doctor or apothecary, like her mother and sister. But in her late years, when she’s too old for hunting and no need for it anyway, I like to imagine she becomes a midwife. Idk, I think she would have a lovely no-nonsense bedside manner and a deep love for every baby she helps deliver and it is nice to think about. I just weep imagining her helping to deliver Posy’s first baby, or checking up on Newborn mothers around the town with gift baskets full of helping herbs and freshly-baked buns and being a familiar face for everyone in 12.

She hates it here. Posy wants nothing more than to return home, but instead finds herself stuck in District 2 in the clutches of her older brother, who has taken in the three younger siblings in the wake of their mother's passing. Instead of moving back to their home, he has forced them to uproot and fit into his life, which the eleven year old understands to some degree, but still hates. He keeps preaching that there is nothing left for them in 12, but he fails to understand that it doesn't matter to Posy. It was home and now it is gone, just like their mother. Every good and happy memory she's ever had was back there. Now it feels like she lost everything once again, only this time more profoundly than during the war.

School is another sore topic in their household. At the moment, Posy is the only one who actually goes at times. The boys refuse and only pretend to go, because they think it's a waste of time and they're old enough to find work. Posy disagrees and only skips school, because she feels inferior to the other children. Everyone here seems much more educated than a poor little girl from 12 who went to a mediocre village school for most of her life and whose education was heavily impacted by the war. They don't know what it's like when chairs in the classroom remain empty after a harsh winter, because their occupants have not made it. They don't know what it feels like to starve, or to freeze in their own homes. Posy feels much older and younger than them all at once.

It is market day and she has once again dropped out of school earlier, because she felt sad all day and could not concentrate. She told her teacher she was feeling ill and was sent home, but strolls through the stalls now instead. It looks a little bit like home and it makes her heart ache, but also comforts her. They have markets in 12 that she used to go to and is determined to see again soon. Her eyes roam over the fruits and vegetables offered, before they linger on someone who is selling strawberries. It takes her a long moment to recall who the person might be, but then her face lights up and she hurries over. "Madge! You're Madge Undersee, aren't you? You're from home", she says excitedly, albeit a little confused, because word went around saying that Madge was killed during the war.

Eat Your Heart Out released their first new music in three years titled “Down,” which discusses social media addiction. The band's last record Fluorescence came out in 2019 via Fearless Records.

Icon for Hire shared the details of their new album, a follow-up to last year’s Amorphous, titled The Reckoning. The album drops on September 9 and features their new song “Dismantled.”

Weezer released the second edition of their SZNZ EP series titled SZNZ: Summer, featuring the song “Lawn Chair.” The band also announced they will be playing a five-night residency on Broadway.

TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS:

After revealing they will be playing two special tribute shows for their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, Foo Fighters announced the lineup. Joining them will be Liam Gallagher, Brian May, Mark Ronson, Supergrass, Wolfgang van Halen and more.

Biffy Clyro announced that they are going to be heading out on tour later this year. The band will bring along Architects, with the tour kicking off in Leeds, England on November 5 and ending in Bournemouth, England on November 15.

Peeta wanted to woop for joy. He couldn't believe his luck! He hadn't crossed paths with her at all this summer. But there she was.

Waiting about a dozen people ahead of where he and his brothers were in line for the city pool were Katniss Everdeen and her little sister Prim.

He wiped away the beads of sweat forming at the base of his neck. Man, it was hot out.

Both of the girls had towels wrapped around their bodies, Prim's tucked into her armpits because she was so tiny---she was going into third grade this year but looked younger---while Katniss's towel was wrapped around the waist over her blue-striped bathing suit. Her skin had turned an even darker shade than it was during the winter, he noticed. Peeta was jealous of anyone who didn't burn in the sun without layers of zinc oxide, even if he was half in love with her. Prim's hair had bleached into a shocking white blond, the same way he used to get when he was her age. Funny how the girls had such different coloring but otherwise looked so similar. He had a feeling Prim was going to be just as pretty as Katniss one day; she was a dead ringer for her older sister at that age. Peeta would know. He's pined after Katniss since preschool.

Katniss hadn't caught a glimpse of him yet, but why would she. He was the one with a crush so massive his heart felt like it'd swelled up times a hundred and was trying to break through his chest and land on the sidewalk where it would sizzle like a hamburger in the mid-August heat.

Peeta glanced at his brothers, wondering if they had noticed Katniss waiting in line. He wasn't sure if he wanted them to see her. They might tease him relentlessly. More likely, he realized, they would be too busy checking out the high school girls to bother him at all. Peeta snorted. Mark was going to be a freshman this year and already acted like he was hot shit or something.

Soon Katniss and Prim disappeared around the corner into the girl's locker room and were already in the pool once he, Mark, and Tim emerged from the guys changing room. He was glad Katniss had a head start. It gave him time to talk himself into striking up a conversation with her.

Instead of heading towards the deep end of the pool with Mark and Tim because his brothers could be jackasses, Peeta found a spot to drop their stuff. The pool was filling up quickly today; almost every lawn chair was loaded with older girls or parents and their little kids.

Peeta spotted his friend Vick Hawthorne with his family and was relieved someone else was here he knew. Vick's mom was busy slathering his baby sister Posy down with sunscreen. Vick waved at Peeta and then turned to say something to his mom before hopping up from the corner of the chair he was sitting on and trotting his way. His younger brother Rory followed on his heels, a shorter, wiry version of his brother.

“Whatcha doing?” Vick asked, giving Peeta a gap-toothed grin and jabbing him in the shoulder lightly.

He pretend-winced and returned the gesture. “Don’t know. Just got here,” he admitted. The three boys lingered near the edge of the pool. Peeta was trying not to stare at Katniss, who he located at the shallower end of the pool with Prim. The girls had a pool noodle Prim was holding onto and kicking her legs furiously behind her. Katniss had a patient smile on her face. She must be teaching her sister to swim.

Peeta was too busy not looking (but definitely looking) at Katniss to miss the devious look Vick shot Rory. “Us too," Vick said, winking at Rory. "Want to go off the diving boards?” The line for the boards was pretty long, clear down the length of the chain link fence, but yeah, Peeta would go off the diving board. Vick was a better swimmer than him; tall and thin with ropey muscles, he could dive into the water and barely crack the surface. Peeta was more of a canon baller.

The three boys got in line for the diving board and weren't waiting as long as Peeta expected they would. The lifeguard assigned to keep an eye on them kept everyone moving. Soon, Peeta made his way onto the board after Rory and Vick insisted he go before either of them.

He was almost at the end of the board, staring down into the flat blue water of the deep end of the swimming pool, when he heard Rory pipe up from behind him, loud. The volume of his voice reminded Peeta of a bullhorn.

"Hey, Katniss! Katniss! Your boyfriend is up! Make sure you watch him!"

Peeta stood at the end of the board, dumbfounded, as his eyes connected with Katniss's from across the pool. Vick hooted behind him with laughter, the boys smacking palms like they'd pulled off the heist of the century. Katniss quickly looked away from Peeta, mouth set in a firm line. Prim was grinning at him.

He wasn't given any time to think about what any of this meant. "Into the water kid," the lifeguard reminded him and stupidly, Peeta bouned off the board, forgetting to plug his nose as he went in feet first.

Chlorinated water shot up his nostrils as he went down, down, before pushing himself back to the surface of the water. His sinuses, his eyes, everything in his head burned as he resurfaced. He spit the excess water from his lungs back into the pool and swam toward the edge.

Behind him, he heard Vick bounced once on the board, lightly, before diving into the pool. Sure, now he was going to be quiet, now that he'd humiliated Peeta.

He was pulling himself out of the water as his friend swam up behind him. "Why did you do that dumbass?" he hissed, mortified. Sure Vick had probably figured out he liked Katniss, but that didn't explain him calling him her boyfriend.

Peeta's eyes raked the length of the pool, finally catching a glimpse of Katniss with her back toward them. He wondered if that was deliberate on her part. He hoped she wasn't mad at him.

Vick grinned, running a hand through his wet hair once they were both on the concrete walkway again. The two of them stepped aside to let other swimmers, including Rory, climb out of the water. "She likes you," he said. shrugging.

"No she doesn't," Peeta said, confused. She's never said a word to him, hardly looks his way. Of course she notices him looking at her sometimes. He stares at her a lot.

"She really does," Rory insists, appearing at his brother's side. "Prim told me she told her that you were the cutest boy in her class, and she thought you were nice, too."

"Seriously?"

"Serious. See, she's watching you right now," Vick said, pointing over Peeta's shoulder. Peeta glanced over his shoulder just in time to catch Katniss snapping her face forward. "I know you like her too. Go talk to her!"

For a few seconds Peeta considered the sudden turn of events. He wouldn't have dreamed Katniss liked him, she was so standoffish, but Vick wasn't a liar.

"She's shy, dude. If you like her—“

Rory laughed, interrupting his brother. “Come on, you know he likes her.”

“You're going to have to make the first move," Vick added, giving Peeta a light, playful shrug. You had to be careful at the pool. They would throw you out quick for rough-housing.

"Okay," Peeta breathed out, glancing over his shoulder at Katniss once again. Tentatively she met his eye this time. He smiled at her; she smiled back.

Peeta nodded his head so firmly Vick and Rory snorted. He ignored them. "Okay, I'll do it."

Yellow Flowers

Yellow is associate with hope in The Hunger Games. In the upcoming chapter 4, Katniss will remember eating dandelions and it giving her hope. The dandelions are linked to Peeta in Katniss' mind. He was looking at her when she saw them. (This will come up again in Mockingjay, if we get there.)

The yellow flowers come up again later. "Rue is a small yellow flower that grows in the Meadow. Rue. Primrose," Katniss thinks, explicitly linking Rue and Prim together.

Rue is a yellow shrub that can be decorative or used as an herb. There is "common" primrose and "evening" primrose. I believe Prim was named after evening primrose. It is also yellow and has some medicinal uses which is apt for Prim who wants to be a healer.

It's worth noting that katniss is white but has a yellow center. It's a flower but also edible, making it a bit more functional than rue or primrose (although rue can be used as an herb) to someone like our Katniss who is looking for food always. (Aren't we all?)

There is also one other character who is a yellow flower that Katniss will never explicitly link with hope but has a symbolic function in the novels: buttercup.

Buttercup the Cat is Prim's guardian. He and Katniss never get along but I always thought it was because they were too similar, both prickly and overprotective of Prim. He also prefers the Everdeen's old house in the Seam, like Katniss does, over the house in Victor's Village.

Buttercup is also a survivor. He doesn't die when Katniss attempts to drown him. He makes it through the firebombing of District 12. He somehow makes it back from District 13 to appear in 12 at the end of Mockingjay. Compare this to what Katniss goes through in the novels, how often she escapes death and her own difficult, winding road back to the house in the Victor's Village.

Anyway. TLDR, there are a lot of flower names in THG. I haven't even gotten to Posy (a "posy" is a bouquet of flowers) or Snow's unnatural, genetically engineered roses that are in opposition to the wildflowers like rue and evening primrose.

Finally getting started on this plot line I’ve been waiting to write! This is a rough draft of part of the next chapter of Arranged

(The tenses are wrong and I will have to change them 😩)

“Will you put the water to boil?”

“Sure thing.” I call back, my fingers tugging tightly upon the strings of my apron, my hair swinging loose around my face.

“Thank you kindly” she calls back from the other side of the door, but I barely hear her. My thoughts haven’t quite been my own for some time now, what with Katniss gone. I fill up the cast iron pot with water and plop it on the counter. My fingers run along the wooden surface, looking for matches but I find none. Did I leave the gas on? I turn to look and, sure enough, I did. If only Katniss were here, she’d have my hide.

I’m still looking for the matches when a knock on the back door startles me. I’m kneeling on the tiled floor but I daren’t move an inch. I stare at the worn door. There’s no way. Could it be? Katniss?

The knock comes again, and I scramble to my feet., my boots scuffing up the clean tiles. My heart is in my throat. Katniss! How could it be? What did she do? We’ll have to hide her. We’ll have to—well I don’t know what we’ll do but—

“Prim,” I blink. It isn’t Katniss. Of course. Right, of course it isn’t. What was I—it doesn’t matter. I push the hair off my face and stare back at Rory Hawthorne.

“Yes?” I look around behind him, but of course, there’s no sign of his older brother. There couldn’t be.

Rory looks over his shoulder nervously, tugging an old leather bag in front of him. I hadn’t noticed right away, but he’s filthy. Theres’s mud all over his face and leaves in his hair, as if—

“You’ve been in the woods!” I gasp, covering my mouth with my hands immediately afterwards. Rory stares back at me with panicked eyes. Wordlessly, I take a step back and allow him into the shop. He rushes in as I shut the door.

“I don’t know what to do! Gale hasn’t taught me nothin’!” He sounds completely frightened as he drops his bag on the table in the center of the room. “Katniss gave ma some money, but it ain’t gon’ last. Plus, Posy’s sick, and no one wants ma doing their laundry anymore.” He yanks the bag open and pours out its contents. It’s just a handful of berries and a mangled squirrel.

“I figured I could trust ya’ll,” he continues. “But this is all I got.”

"Are you, are you, coming to the three", the ten year old cheerfully sang to herself, as she was making her way down the main road of District 12, or what used to be the main road. The District was still mostly in ruins, even though the people who had survived the war and returned here were doing their best to rebuild it. Posy and her brothers lived in a house that only had half a roof at this point, but it was better than nothing. Their original home had not made it through the bombing, so they could not be choosy. It was better than nothing - a phrase Hazelle repeated ever so often, when the kids complained, or water was dripping from the ceiling. They had made it this far, they would get through yet another tough patch as well.

"Where they strung up a man, they say who murdered three - Katniss!" Her face lit up at the sight of Gale's oldest friend, before it immediately fell again, when she remembered that these two were no longer friends and that probably extended to the rest of the Hawthornes as well. Unfortunately, she had called out loud enough to get the older girl's attention, so there was no way out of the situation. This was awkward. Katniss had been like an older sister to Posy all her life, but now everything was different. A war changed a lot of things, it seemed, most of all people. "Hello", she greeted more timidly, not sure what else to say. She had not seen Katniss since District 13 and that was...over a year ago.
