Ghost King Danny is dimension hopping through different parts of the GZ and finds himself in a dimension connected to a nasty corrupted section of the Zone filled with gross ectoplasm called the Sanzu River with hyper aggressive corrupted ghosts called Nighlok whose Obsessions have all been twisted to unrecognizability and focused on bringing misery to others. He sees some colourful, slightly overdramatic (but he has no right to judge) fighting them and figures he can let them handle it before he sees what looks to be a halfa in suffering and decides he has to help. Deker just wants to fight the Red Ranger and break his curse only for a strange powerful being to kidnap him and proclaim he's going to help. Jayden is confused as to what this odd creature that just stole one of his toughest foes. Dayu is worried this is another situation like Serrator situation. Serrator is just frustrated because what the hell why is this thing ruining my plan

What If: Cameron was trained by Deker before Ninja Storm to be a dark samurai?

Vague thoughts, because this is all about vague thoughts:

This would either have to include Deker stealing a small child, the said small child gaining his attention, or Cam literally hunting Deker down to train him.

Given that Deker doesn't have a parental bone in his body, we can assume this would come about through the third option, given Sensei Watanabe's treatment of Cam and possibly rubbing him in the worst way possible.

Technically, this does not fly in the face of the CURRENT ninja academy rules, so unlike with Lothor, he wouldn't be disowned or forbidden from contact, but it sort of begs the question of who the hell is running things to keep literally everything from going down the tubes when Lothor does attack.

Maybe Cam would be willing to jump in to protect his dad from dying, and possibly dig up the Morphers for the students that were late that day, but he would probably make it his mission to try and take on Lothor himself.

Which would actually be useful in intercepting the Thunder Ninja duo before Lothor tricked them into believing it was Sensei that killed their parents. Make the lot of them a Trio with dark, biker vibes.

I could go with the idea that Tori would want to save Cam from the darkness he set himself within to escape what he believes is his father's control over his life--but she would fail.

Then Dustin and Shane would try--and they would fail.

Hunter and Blake would both be too caught up in their own darkness to address the chip on Cam's shoulder, and definitely would want in on the super secret training with a half-Nighlok that technically Cam wouldn't be disinclined to sharing lessons with. Which would make things a lot worse when Lothor's minions attacked both the rangers and their territory and their friends.

In a very fun turn of events, I think the ones that would have to make Cam realize he was fucking up would be his cousins.

Because, for real, the whole downplaying their abilities and mentality thing just to lower the Ranger's guard? That was some bullshit. And they might want Lothor's approval, but they're still young adults, and depending on how the timeline is played with--Cam's same age.

If Cam tried to attack either of them to get to Lothor, Kapri would be massively offended. She would probably pick up a boulder as heavy as a truck and just TOSS it at him to make him knock it the fuck off. And if he kept going, she'd beat the crap out of him and then just...drop him off at the Wind Ninja Academy.

She wouldn't want him on the ship with the Generals on board, and she wouldn't want Uncle to get it into his head that this was something MORE than a family issue that needed to be addressed. THEY were the evil ninjas on the planet, they didn't need an angsty grey-morality samurai making things harder.

Also Kapri is Pink and Cam would DEFINITELY maintain his Green. It's her JOB to knock sense into him.

But it's Marah's (Orange) job to teach him a lesson.

I can easily see her sneaking off the ship to secretly provide the Rangers with tech assistance when they aren't looking, dropping off "gifts" at the motorbike shop in disguise that could help them with new monster attacks, cornering Sensei Watanabe to have conversations about her aunt/his dead wife while tossing him around like a toy, and--for bonus points--crashing Cam and the brothers' sessions with Deker to snag their weapons and morphers.

Then the cousins lure Dayu to Blue Bay Harbor and tell Cam a little story about selling your soul with good intentions that can end horrifically.

I would also like to use this as an opportunity for Tori to be more than The Only Girl. SHE GETS TO LEAD THE NINJA STORM RANGERS even after Cam and the brothers are convinced to at LEAST team up with them against Lothor.

And use this as a chance for Sensei to get his head out of his ass and recognize things for what they are.

Red Power Rangers I wish would get more centric fics without romance

Connor McKnight (Dino Thunder) (Seriously i have yet to see any, most fics with him are either of Trent or Kira. Don’t like him shipped with Kira either.)

Jack Landors (Only romance I’d do is JackxSkye but otherwise I have yet to see a centric fic on him alone. Sad.) Seriously, he grew up on the streets. How did the writers not think that was good material to expand upon? He’s basically the PR version of Ezra Bridger. Yeah Z was too, but honestly I see so many fics of her and Syd, that I rather see fics of just Jack’s time rather than hers. By the way, did the writers ever say why they were on the streets? I saw Z as maybe a neglected rich kid gone rouge? Or perhaps just a runaway? Idk but it’s interesting no?

Casey Rhodes (I see him and Lily with a sibling bond (just me?), and I have yet to see any fics centered around him (that I haven’t written at least). Guilty please ship him with Jarrod, but that’s it.

Jayden Shibi (Samurai) (Don’t ship him with Mia (more w/Kevin) nor Emily (more w/Mike) nor any OCs (ironic considering I’ve written one with him) If it isn’t romance, samurai fics seem to be more centered on Emily, Mia, Antonio (more like brothers honestly but it’s kinda cute…but seriously I’m 100% BROTP), or Lauren.

Nick (Mystic Force) I’m probably the only one who doesn’t ship him with Maddie (BROTP more so) and honestly I don’t see any fics of him. His backstory of his adoption and his birth parents is really interesting. If the writers of the show didn’t explore more, how haven’t fans?

Cole (Wild Force) I never shipped him with any of the rangers (Wolf guy was close but idk the age gap), and yet there are more fics Wild Force more on that? What about how he adapts to the world after he became a Ranger? I had a weird dream where Deker (yes same actor it took me forever to realize) is some Nilock spirit that possessed Cole when he’s at the brink of death. Diau (probably not spelling it right) is the only one who knows of ‘Deker’ true identity. Maybe Cole meet Diau when she was human and they fell in love? Idk at the point of Deker being a Nilock possessing Cole, canon basically goes out the window no? Like I said, weird dream.

In conclusion…..

Okay yeah I ship a lot of yaoi PR couples, but then again, if the writers canon wise won’t write boyxboy couples, than why wouldn’t we all not write them? It’s 2023 and not a single boyxboy confirmed (+ clear moments of romance) involved in the series so far. Sad ):

30. Power Rangers Samurai (Season 18)

Power Rangers Samurai bottoms this list and it's not even close. Right away something about this season feels really off. The acting is just flat and lethargic and the dialogue is terrible. You can tell it's the writing and direction because Jayden shows up in later seasons (we will get to that later on) and he sounds and acts like a normal human being which makes me question what the hell happened. It makes this season extremely painful to get through and that coupled with poor writing and characterization is what pushes it all the way down here. It's so SO hard to watch and was an absolute slog to get through.

The New Saban era is pretty rough overall and is probably the worst in regards to consistency and quality out of the 4 Ranger eras (of which I will get into more detail in later entries).

Antonio is an absolute delight and Power Rangers deserves props for portraying a homoerotic and queer character in a serious light, he's hands down the best character in this season. There's no actual confirmation of his sexual orientation in the show but there doesn't need to be. This seasons demographic is clearly a younger audience, the nuances of sexual identity is a complicated subject matter and it doesn't need to be explored thoroughly in this show in order to have good representation. He's a very flamboyant and at times androgenous character but he's taken seriously, the other characters aren't laughing at him and the rest of the team accepts him because he's a damn good Power Ranger and good person, even though he's "different". And this is all the way back in 2011, 4 whole years before Caitlyn Jenners influence would change society as a whole to be more accepting of the LGBT+ community, I got to give the writers props. Antonio has some of the best character moments in the show "Unexpected Arrival", "Room for One More", "The Blue and Gold", and "Boxed In" come to mind. This is queer representation done relatively well (in spite of the poor writing of this season).

You'll notice throughout the rest of these posts that I am generally not a fan of comic relief side characters that contribute next to nothing to the plot. There's one or two in every season. Sometimes they're genuinely charming, and other times they make me want to put my forehead through a window. Bulk and Spike are the former. They are both equally hilarious and charming and seeing Bulk again is both nostalgic as hell and a nice reminder that this season exists in the same world and continuity as the other seasons.

The suits and overall aesthetic of this season are absolutely fantastic. I think the production teams absolutely nailed it in regards to the overall presentation of the show. It hits with just the right amount of nostalgia. The opening theme is also fantastic and hits nicely with some good nostalgia sprinkled throughout.

Jayden is a perfectly fine red ranger and over the course of the season gets the most development out of the Samurai rangers aside from Antonio. He goes from a closed off arrogant asshole and over time softens and learns to trust his team but never has any standout moments after the first couple of episodes. He's not the gold standard for Red Rangers by any means but he's just fine.

The team as characters overall are forgettable in this season. Each of them aside from Jayden gets maybe one episode if we're lucky of actual development, other than that they are the exact same person from the start up until, and including the end.

Where this seasons gets complicated is the villains. I don't understand why Cole Ev- I mean Deker, isn't the main baddie. He's a far more interesting villain than Master Xandred. The relationship between Deker and Xandred wasn't explored enough in either Samurai or Super Samurai even though it was very compelling. Props to the concept artists who came up with Dekers design. He is hands down one of the best looking villains in the franchise and I want a Death Battle between him and Yoshimitsu from Tekken so badly. But that's the problem, Deker isn't the bad guy. He's in 21 episodes across 2 seasons (12 in Samurai, 9 in Super Samurai). He's got a compelling look, ironically stands out because he has okay acting in a show where all of them feel like they have AI generated actors and lines. Xandred on the other hand is a one dimensional psychopath who just doesn't do anything. Samurai is a season that suffers from having goons be far more interesting than the main villain, given that this is the first season of the Saban Era, and the 18th season overall, it really should have learned from previous mistakes.

In closing, aside from the production quality, Deker, and Antonio, it wasn't hard picking Samurai as the bottom of the list. No team-up, a confusing and one dimensional main villain and a plot that feels like it's never moving forward, all work together to bog this show down. However it's the acting and writing that truly cement it at the bottom because it genuinely makes it unbearable to watch. If those two things were a lot better, Samurai's other mistakes would be a lot more forgivable and you would probably see this season shoot up a few places.
