"Maybe a fella ain’t got a soul of his own, but on’y a piece of a big one. Then I’ll be all aroun’ in the dark. I’ll be ever’where — wherever you look. Wherever they’s a fight so hungry people can eat, I’ll be there. Wherever they’s a cop beatin’ up a guy, I’ll be there" says Tom Joad (Henry Fonda) to his mother as he goes on the run at the end of The Grapes of Wrath (1940). His words speak about the deep connection between oppressed peoples everywhere as powerfully today as they did when Steinbeck wrote them in 1936. As a Christian they remind me of God's "preferential option for the poor" revealed in liberation theology and of Jesus' words in Matthew 25 that whenever we feed the hungry, or welcome the stranger, we are also feeding and welcoming Him. Tom is right that the souls of the poor are connected, but from a Christian perspective not because they are all simply one - but rather that Christ is present in each of them. So that...wherever there's a fight so hungry people can eat, wherever there’s a cop beatin’ up a guy....Christ is there. . . . . . . . . . . #tomjoad #grapesofwrath #steinbeck #johnsteinbeck #johnsteinbeckquote #henryfonda #darrylzanuck #darrylfzanuck #johnford #soul #christian #christ #jesus #liberationtheology #preferentialoptionforthepoor #filmandtheology #filmandfaith #matthew25 #blm #blacklivesmatter #hungry #oppressed #greatdepression https://www.instagram.com/p/CFjPVjilb6u/?igshid=13vc2acri68js

YÉ FLOW; PROSPERITÉ GOSPEL 🕍⛪️🕋 GUILDWORKScompanies; RE-IMAGINinG Humanity 📿 Don’t get me wrong or kill my vibe, 'cuz I love Kanye’s music and respect his genius as a musician and creative visionary. But, as a Social Gospel, Christian Ethics and aspiring Prison Chaplain to predominantly underclasses, the whole “Jesus Is King” elite fashionista merch is a guaranteed “Get you behind me, Satan!” move from Ye. One purchase of his hoodie & sweats, pays for food, meds, and a roof over people’s heads who are otherwise homeless or destitute. And Jesus? By every conceivable indicator He’d be ripping up and overturning Kanye’s’ merch tables. You feel me? 🧿 “As followers of Christ, we are challenged to make a preferential option for the poor, namely, to create conditions for marginalized voices to be heard, to defend the defenseless, and to assess lifestyles, policies and social institutions in terms of their impact on the poor. The option for the poor does not mean pitting one group against another, but rather, it calls us to strengthen the whole community by assisting those who are most vulnerable. OurScriptures teach that the justice of a society is tested and judged by its treatment of the poor. In the gospel of Luke, Jesus proclaims he has been anointed to bring good news to the poor. In the Last Judgment, we are told we will be judged according to how we respond to the hungry, the thirsty, the prisoner and the stranger (Matthew 25.31-46). 📿 Therefore, the preferential option for the poor is not optional. The Latin American bishops' conferences at Medillín (1968) and Puebla (1979) aimed to emphasize the use of option as a verb rather than as a noun. As such, each Christian must make a choice to lift up the poor and disadvantaged in real and concrete ways. Preferential option for the poor means that Christians are called to look at the world from the perspective of the marginalized and to work in solidarity for justice.” -SocialConcerns.nd.edu / excerpted 🏷 #kanyewest #jesus #jesusisking #sundayvibes #blessed #kanyesundayservices #defjam #ye #yeezy #blacklivesmatter #black #preferentialoptionforthepoor #preferentialoption #sunday #gospel #god #christmas (at Santa Fe, New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4GwYknldBv/?igshid=10zk6vw4t1pu4
