you can actually hover over the icon and there's a little person in the bottom left corner of the information box. click on that and you can message people from your dashboard. i think that's the closest tumblr's gotten so far.

Yeah, I know and that's awesome but it still requires going back and forth to the inbox after and you have to essentially see them on your dash to actually get to them. I'm just really lazy to be honest
