“I read that when princess Margaret was born, Queen Mary was a bit upset because she expected a boy, but king George V was happy and he said "girls let you play longer with them' and I think its so cute. He was so loving with his granddaughters. Most fathers and grandfathers will always prefer their daughters and granddaughters more 🥰” - Submitted by Anonymous

Royal Tiara Challenge 2024: Favourite Swedish Tiara
Tumblr media
Swedish Aquamarine Kokoshnik Tiara
A favourite of many, this tiara looks fabulous on anyone who wears it. Originally owned by Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden, it now belongs to her granddaughter, Princess Margaretha. Luckily for us, the Swedes are fond of sharing with Crown Princess Victoria, Princess Madeleine and Princess Christina as regular wearers. It was last worn in January for the State Visit from France by Princess Christina.

King George V Grandpa England:
“The archbishop of Canterbury recounted that on one occasion, the monarch, who was playing a horse, allowed his granddaughter to pull him around by his gray beard as he shuffled on his knees along the floor. ‘He was fond of his two grandsons, Princess Mary’s sons,’ recalled the countess of Airlie, ‘but Lilibet always came first in his affections. He used to play with her—a thing I never saw him do with his own children—and loved to have her with him.’ He monitored her every small advance, sending a wireless message to his son and daughter-in-law, who were on board the Renown sailing to Australia, to inform them that his granddaughter had cut her first tooth. The king was enraptured by her. One Christmas at Sandringham, three-year-old Elizabeth was listening to the carol ‘While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night’ when she noticed the lyric ‘to you and all mankind.’ She innocently announced: ‘I know that old man kind. That’s you grandpapa. You’re old and you are very, very kind.’”

Hi! I'm trying to read up on the York princesses' early lives and I can find frustratingly few details on the same. I was specifically curious about their various childhood betrothals that ultimately never came into fruition due to the death of their father, but I can barely find anything online beyond the bare basics (essentially: the names of the people they were betrothed to). I was wondering of any specific details of all their individual betrothals survived, and if they changed across the years of their father's reign?
And in Bridget of York's case - since she's more elusive to find than her sisters - was she destined for a church path since birth? I've seen some sites claim that her grandmother Cecily Neville named her with no actual evidence beyond her piety, but I always assumed it was her parents who was more likely to have done so? Both Elizabeth Woodville and Edward IV were connected to St. Bridget and Elizabeth was also very pious.
You know a lot about this era so I hope it's okay to ask, sorry if the question seems out of the blue!
Hello! Sorry for taking so long to reply, I had to sit down and look up some things because the story of the betrothal of Edward IV's daughters is quite murky. I will talk about the betrothals that were done during Edward IV's reign because after that it's another thing entirely.
Let's talk about Bridget first. Was she destined for a church path since birth? There's no way of actually knowing this, but it's entirely possible she was. On a practical level, as the king's fifth surviving daughter, a competitive dowry to be used in a foreign marriage alliance would be hard to achieve (more about Edward IV and dowries in a second). More concrete evidence though does come from her name. I haven't found many noblewomen named Bridget in late medieval England but the one I did find, Bridget Holland (daughter of Thomas Holland 2nd Earl of Kent, Richard II's half-brother), indeed became a nun. Like Bridget of York, she seems to have been the youngest of 5-6 sisters.
Saint Bridget of Sweden was a very popular saint in England and she was especially revered by the English royal family (who since Henry V's time were patrons of a Bridgettine monastery at Sheen, Syon Abbey). Elizabeth of York and Margaret Beaufort would go on to commission the printing of a list of prayers popularly thought to have been written by St Bridget. For the Yorkists, however, St Bridget held particular importance because one of her prophecies had been used to justify Edward IV's right to rule. Cecily Neville in particular owned a copy of St Bridget's revelations which she later bequeathed to her granddaughter Anne de la Pole who not only also became a nun, but rose to the highest rank of prioress at Syon.
Cecily Neville was Bridget of York's godmother. Traditionally, godparents were the ones to name ('christen') the child at their baptism. Of course, most time the parents had their input too before the child was brought to the baptismal font. Elizabeth Woodville was also devoted to St Bridget. Interestingly, Cecily left her religious books to the two granddaughters who became nuns: Anne de la Pole, which I commented on above, and Bridget. Bridget received Cecily's Legenda Aurea (a collection of saints' lives), a book about St Katherine and another one about St Matilde.
To me, it seems entirely possible that Cecily Neville might have planned Bridget's career as a nun from the very beginning. It's quite likely that Edward IV and his wife Elizabeth vouched for the idea too, considering how important St Bridget's prophecy had been for Edward's legitimisation as king, they might have made a promise/vow to dedicate one of their children's lives to the Church as many catholic people still do today. I've seen the speculation that Bridget was sickly/had some kind of impairment from birth that would make her less desirable in the marriage market but I don't think we need that as a reason for her going into a convent.
Now going into the other princesses. We already know about Elizabeth of York, right? First, she was betrothed to Warwick's nephew and heir, George Neville, as a way to appease him in 1469. Then she was offered to Prince Edward of Lancaster but Margaret of Anjou went on to choose Anne Neville which was probably for the best, as Edward IV's suggestion, at a time when Edward V was about to be born, was probably just a ruse. Elizabeth's hand was also used as bait to bring back Henry Tudor to England in 1476. And again, it most certainly was a ruse as by that time she had just recently been betrothed to the Dauphin of France. She would be known as Madame la Dauphine until France called off the betrothal in late 1482.
Mary of York occupied 'the rather unfortunate position' as Ross describes it, of being her sister's replacement in the marriage alliance with France in case Elizabeth of York died before the wedding took place. It would not be until 1481, by then a time when many doubted the French marriage would even go through, that Mary was betrothed to King Frederick I of Denmark. She would die the next year in 1482.
Anne of York was first suggested to marry Philip, the future Duke of Burgundy, in 1480 as a part of a tentative Anglo-Burgundian alliance against France that Burgundy desperately wanted but that Edward IV only toyed with to pressure France into honouring their marriage alliance and wed Elizabeth of York and the Dauphin Charles. In the words of Charles Ross, Edward IV's biographer:
Edward quite ruthlessly exploited the duke’s desperate need of English support to get Anne’s marriage on the cheap. Maximilian had wanted a dowry of 200,000 crowns with Anne; Edward, on the other hand, regarded paying no dowry as part of the price of signing an alliance with Burgundy. When Maximilian argued that it was quite unreasonable for the bride of one of the wealthiest heirs in Europe to have no dowry at all, he still had small success in persuading her father to release the purse-strings. The original marriage treaty, signed on 5 August 1480, was modified by supplementary agreements on 14 and 21 August, which effectively released Edward from paying any dowry on condition of releasing to the duke the first year’s instalment of the pension of 50,000 crowns which he was demanding from Burgundy.
Here we must remember that Edward IV wanted to marry Elizabeth of York without paying any dowry at all. On the contrary, France was to pay for Elizabeth's upkeeping until she was married to the Dauphin. Edward IV, whilst dealing with Brittany to marry his son Edward to Anne of Brittany, heiress to her father's duchy, established that if the Duke of Brittany had a son before their children married, one of his daughters was to marry the duke's new son, and that Brittany—not him—were to provide his daughter's dowry. Ross cites a Breton scholar that snarkily remarked that ‘to marry his daughters without dowries was the objective which this miser [Edward IV] set before himself in the last years of his life’. Harsh.
However, Edward IV did agree to pay Cecily's dowry! Although admittedly it was much cheaper (20,000 crowns) than Edward IV himself was asking for Anne of Brittany's hand in marriage to his son (100,000 crowns as the heiress of Brittany, 200,000 in case her father had a son). Cecily of York was first betrothed to James III's heir, the future James IV, in 1473 as part of a truce between England and Scotland that allowed Edward IV to go to war against France in 1475. The truce with Scotland fell through by 1480 and by 1481 Edward IV was committed to a war against James. The next year Edward was willing to back James III's brother Alexander against him, with the condition that Alexander was to marry Cecily ‘if the said Alexander can make hymself clere fro all other Women, according to the Lawes of Christian Chyrche’.
Alexander backed down after the English invasion of Scotland, and James III once again suggested Cecily marry his son and heir as part of the peace terms but Edward IV called off the betrothal for good later that year and demanded the repayment of the dowry portion he had already paid to Scotland. It seems Edward had decided to renew the war against Scotland by that time (November 1482) and back Alexander as king again. Amazingly, Alexander would go on to make peace with his brother yet again in early 1483. So by the time Edward IV died, Cecily's betrothal to Scotland's heir was cancelled for good. Richard III would wed her to Ralph Scrope, Baron Scrope's second son and a man that was part of Richard III's northern affinity.
I haven't found anything about Katherine of York's betrothal during her father's reign. She was probably too young, being born in 1479. EDIT: There was a plan for Katherine to marry Isabella of Castille's heir Juan as proposed in 1482. See reblog in the notes.
And that's it! Basically, Louis XI's peace treaty with Burgundy in December 1482 frustrated at least two of Edward IV's marriage plans. The Dauphin of France would marry Margaret of Austria (Mary of Burgundy's daughter) instead of Elizabeth of York. On the other hand, Burgundy, no longer in need of Edward IV's help, was under no obligation to go through with the marriage of Anne of York and the young Philip of Burgundy. Edward IV's falling out with Scotland also meant Cecily's betrothal was called out.
By the time Edward IV died the only betrothal that was likely to go through was Prince Edward's with Anne of Brittany, so whenever I see people saying that if it wasn't for Edward's death Elizabeth of York would be queen of France, Cecily queen of Scotland, Anne duchess of Burgundy etc I can only assume the person saying that doesn't know much about the upheavals of the 1480s — or Edward IV's own disinclination to pay dowries for the marriages of his daughters.
I hope this answer was of some help, and once again, sorry for taking so long to reply.

It's the my Narnia's babies time! Since it seems like we're all in this mood, I thought it was a good moment to introduce them! (Special thanks to @andromedalestrange and @randomestfandoms-ocs for some fcs, I was getting crazy so thank you darlings!)
Also two little things I feel the need to tell: it's been a while since the last time I read the Chronicles (so don't yell at me pls) and! My ocs are going to be a "fusion" of the books and the movies (Like, taking my favourite things from both and changing what I don't like... Susan not returning at all for example lmao) And! It's me finding a different way to make almost all of them immortal/ageless/slow-aging bc I want them being in more than one movie/book lmao
Last thing, I'm gonna to explain so little about their plot/vibes/actual things so if you wanna know more about some specific ocs feel free to send an ask, I can't wait to talk about them more 🥺
Tagging my Narnia besties @daughter-of-melpomene @come-along-pond @dancingsunflowers-ocs bc I think they would enjoy this (tell me if I didn't have to 🥺)

Tumblr media
Aine Meraxes - princess of a little independent reign on a Isle on the borders of Narnia; they have dragons lol; the Long Winter didn't get there bc a Coven protects it; gets called for help against the White Witch; is a witch herself; uses a similar spell the White Witch used on Charn after the Golden Age ends; will eventually be the Last Queen of Narnia alongside Liz; Liz Pevensie ship FC: Milly Alcock
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
Amaranta Ira - High Witch of Narnia (at least she should be); her ancestors used to be the Second In Command of Narnia's Army before the Age of Winter; became basically the Narnian version of a vigilante during the White Witch's reign lmao; (will probably be with the Pevensie when they come back so she is stuck in England for a long time); Caspian and/or Edmund ship FC: Amita Suman

Who do you think are the 3 most beautiful granddaughters of Queen Victoria?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beauty is a subjective matter, and different people may have different preferences and tastes.
I'm sure that all the granddaughters of Queen Victoria are beautiful and unique in their own way... 💓🫶🥺 However, in my opinion, 3 of the most beautiful granddaughters of Queen Victoria are included:
- Princess Margaret of Connaught (1882–1920) was the daughter of Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, the third son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. She married Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden, the future King Gustaf VI Adolf, in 1905 and became the Crown Princess of Sweden. She was known for her beauty, intelligence, and charm, and was popular among the Swedish people. She died in 1920, at the age of 38.
- Princess Victoria Melita of Edinburgh (1876–1936) was the daughter of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, the second son of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. She married twice: first to her cousin Ernest Louis, Grand Duke of Hesse; and second to another cousin Kirill Vladimirovich, Grand Duke of Russia. She was considered a beauty in her youth, with dark hair and blue eyes. She was also interested in music and art, and supported her husband's claim to the Russian throne after the revolution.
- Princess Marie of Edinburgh (1875–1938) was the daughter of Prince Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. She married King Ferdinand I of Romania in 1893. She was admired for her beauty, elegance, and style, and was nicknamed "the pearl of the crown" by the Romanian people. She was also a patron of arts and culture, and a humanitarian who helped refugees.

Under the cut, unless Tumblr ate it.
“Granny? Are you here?” Killian Jones called as he and his best friend David entered the costuming and makeup area behind the scenes of Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom.
“In here, Killian,” she called back.
Killian looked behind him and opened the door wider for David to come through. They both looked around, dumbfounded, at all the costumes lining the walls. They were separated by character and there were multiple reproductions of each costume, he assumed in different sizes, as well as the different costumes for each character in their respective movies.
Killian’s gaze zeroed in on the Cinderella section and saw not only the princess gown everyone was familiar with for the character, but also Cinderella’s night dress, her servants attire, the torn up ball gown, as well as her wedding dress. A smile blossomed on his face as he thought of his Swan dressed up in the variety of costumes he saw. He’d never forget when Emma had come to him so excited to finally be cast as a Disney Princess. She loved working at Disney World, but it was her dream to be a Disney Princess and greet all the guests, especially the little girls who visited wearing their own Princess gowns.
He turned back to David who had a similar look on his face as he looked at the Snow White section.
“Come on, mate,” Killian said, drawing David out of his reverie. “They’re waiting for us.”
David came back to himself with a shake of his head and a sheepish smile on his face. “Sorry. I was just imagining Mary Margaret in some of those costumes.”
Killian grinned and placed his hand on David’s shoulder. “I was envisioning Emma, as well,” he assured his friend. They turned and made their way into the next room to see Granny still laying out the costumes for their ladies' respective Prince Charmings. Cinderella’s prince for Killian and Snow White’s for David.
“Come on, Ruby,” Granny called. “They’re here.”
Ruby, Granny’s assistant and granddaughter, came in from the makeup room followed closely by Prince Adam, from Beauty and the Beast. Ruby smirked as ‘Adam’ passed her with a slight upturn of his lips and nod of greeting to the two men. Killian heard a muffled slap of a hand on fabric and Ruby’s innocent then wolfish smirk at the man’s surprised expression when he turned back to look at her, told Killian she must have slapped him on the butt. The prince moved into her space and gave her a quick peck on the lips.
“I’ll see you later, Ruby,” he said.
“Bye, Graham,” she purred before turning her attention to Killian and David. “Y’all ready?” she asked. At Killian’s nod, she wrapped her arm around his and ushered him into her makeup chair. It only took a few minutes for her to have his hair combed into place and just a touch of makeup so he wouldn’t be washed out under the lights. “This is such a fantastic idea, Killian,” Ruby commented as she ushered him back out into the costuming area where David was snapping his cape into place before donning the plumed hat of Snow White’s prince. “I’m sorry it took so long to be approved and about all the hoops you had to jump through to get it to happen.” She ran her hand along his clean shaven face and scowled. “Emma’s hardly gonna recognize you without your scruff. And she’s gonna blame me for it.”
Killian laughed good naturedly. “It’s worth it, Ruby. Prince Charming getting to propose to Cinderella? In front of all the guests? This is a once in a lifetime thing. And no, she is not going to blame you for the lack of facial hair,” he assured his friend. “If I’m going to play the part, even for an hour, I have to look it. It’ll grow back in a couple of days. And besides, she’ll love the ring too much to notice. I hope.” He pulled a small box out of his pocket and opened it. Nestled inside was a gorgeous ring with a dark blue topaz center stone in a diamond frame. The diamond lined split shank on either side of the stone framed smaller blue topazes. Ruby caught her breath.
“She’ll love it,” she declared, nodding. “Let me see yours, Charming.”
David pulled his own small box out of his pocket and opened it up revealing a beautiful ring with a round peridot stone settled on a white gold band.
“This belonged to my mother,” he said, looking down at it with a soft smile. “She always said True Love followed this ring.” He looked back up at them. “And she was right. Mary Margaret is my True Love.”
Ruby smiled as she led David into the other room. Killian picked up the costume laid out for him and grimaced. The high neck of the costume he was to wear was the only drawback to this whole elaborate scheme. But as he said to Ruby, it was worth it. Granny smirked at him as he scowled at the offensive article.
“Come on, Killian. You can endure it for one hour.” She handed him the costume and patted him on the back as he turned toward the dressing room.
Twenty minutes later, Granny and Ruby were escorting him and David from the costuming area behind the scenes to the Princess Fairytale Hall in Fantasyland, where Emma and Mary Margaret were about an hour away from the end of their time greeting guests as Cinderella and Snow White. The ladies were on either side of the hall, so once the group got to the branch where they’d have to split to surprise their respective girlfriends, Granny took Killian left and Ruby took David right.
Granny cracked open the door to the hall and character greeting area to watch for the current guests to leave. The plan was to surprise ‘Cinderella’ before the next guests arrived.
~*~*~
Emma Swan waved goodbye to the family from Missouri and turned towards the other side of the hall. She saw Mary Margaret bidding farewell to her guests, who were now heading her way. Suddenly the door to backstage opened and Cinderella’s Prince Charming stepped through. It took her a moment, but her eyes widened when she recognized her boyfriend, Killian. Her jaw dropped, but she quickly snapped it shut and schooled her features as he approached her, his gloved hand held out to her.
“Hello, Cinderella,” he said, sinking to one knee before her. Her mouth fell open again and she quickly covered it with her hand. She noticed the couple stopping on the edge of the rug marking her space and the young woman recording on her phone. Emma’s eyes darted over to where Mary Margaret stood in a similar posture as herself, as her own Prince knelt before her.
Emma’s eyes caught Killian’s, where she saw a mixture of love, hope, roguish mischief, and trepidation swirling in their blue depths. Tears filled her own eyes when he pulled a small box out of his trousers pocket and opened it.
“Cinderella,” he began, his eyes twinkling, “The instant I laid eyes on you, I knew you were the one for me. I will never forget the first moment I saw you. You were the most beautiful woman I had ever seen, looking around, trying to find the entrance to the grand hall where the royal ball was being held. I was truly captivated and everything faded away around me except you. I approached you and asked if you would dance with me, which you graciously accepted, having no idea who I truly was.”
Emma gasped out a sob as she thought back to when she had met Killian- crashing into him in the dining hall on campus at UCF, not recognizing the captain of the soccer team.
Killian continued. “You stole my heart that night and when I lost you, I was determined to find you again. I knew I could not live without you. Then when I did find you, my joy knew no bounds. In the last year we have been together, everything I sensed about you that first time we met has been confirmed many times over. You are strong- stronger than anyone I have ever known. You are loving and you have loved this man for who he is, not for his image. You are kind, so kind to the people of our kingdom.” He looked around at the people gathered, waiting for their chance to meet Snow White and Cinderella, before looking back at her again. “You are generous, giving of yourself so freely to me, your loved ones, and our kingdom. You are the most amazing woman I have ever met and I love you with everything that is in me. Would you do me the greatest honor and become my wife, my Princess, my Queen?”
Emma couldn’t speak as she searched his eyes. Yes, she loved Killian Jones and she’d certainly agree to marry him- they’d already talked about marrying after they both graduated in the spring- but this was Prince Charming proposing to Cinderella. And of course Cinderella would agree to marry Prince Charming.
She caught her breath and held her gloved hand out to him as she nodded with a jerking motion that she hoped didn’t betray the turmoil of her thoughts.
“Yes, my prince,” she breathed, her eyes again filling with tears. She could only guess that Killian, or maybe David, had concocted this ridiculous scheme to propose to their ladies at work as Disney princesses, and thus had to dress up as their respective princes in order to do it. “I will happily marry you!”
Killian drew her glove down her arm and removed it before taking the ring out of the box and placing it on her finger. It was breathtaking and Emma released a gasping sob as she gazed at it. Killian rose to his feet and gathered her in his arms for a brief and tender kiss. He placed his forehead on hers and spoke in a whisper.
“Are you alright there, Swan?”
“Shhh, you know we can’t break character,” she admonished him.
“They’re far enough away, they can’t hear us,” he assured her.
“Whose idea was this? Do you mean this? For us? Really?”
Killian grinned at her. “It was mine, and yes, I do, Swan. I love you and I know you love me. I thought this would make a great tale for our grandchildren.”
Emma barked out a laughing sob. “Yes, I’d certainly agree with that.” She pulled back and turned to the guests who were still waiting. Over on the other side of the hall, Mary Margaret and David were already greeting their next guests.
The young woman who had been recording them squealed loudly as she approached. “I got to watch Prince Charming propose to Cinderella! May I see the ring?”
Emma felt her cheeks flush as she held out her hand to show her. The woman let out a louder squeal and asked if she could take a picture of Cinderella and her Prince showing off the ring.
“Of course, milady,” Emma said, with a proper curtsy. She rose and Killian wrapped his arm around her waist and held her hand to show off the beautiful ring to its best advantage.
“Oh, it’s so beautiful,” she breathed. “Congratulations, Your Highness.” Emma spotted a ring on her finger and reached out for her.
“I see you have one yourself, milady.”
The woman blushed and looked adoringly at the man at her side. “Yes. We’re getting married in July.”
“Congratulations are certainly in order then,” Killian said before getting the attention of the Disney photographer. “Can you take a picture with the four of us together?”
“Of course, Your Highness. Get in close, everyone, that’s it. One, two, three.” He captured the image, then changed the angle of the camera and took a few more.
“Thank you so much, Your Highness,” the young woman murmured as she hugged Emma tightly. “I’m so excited I got to witness this! It’s made this whole trip!”
“I am so glad,” Emma assured her. After both she and Killian signed their autograph book, the couple walked away, briefly stopping by Granny before they left the room. Emma wondered why Granny was talking to them but then remembered the young woman had recorded the proposal. She had no doubt Granny was asking for the video to be forwarded to her so Emma and Killian would be able to see it. She could only hope someone had done the same for Mary Margaret and David.
Before she knew it, the last hour of her shift had flown by. Killian had handled the guests like a champ, staying in character and answering questions. He even got down on one knee again when a little four year old girl dressed up as Cinderella, who’d been further down the line during his proposal, asked if she could have a picture with just him since she was Cinderella, too. Emma’s heart fluttered and tears filled her eyes as he knelt next to the girl and held her close, bright smiles on both of their faces as the photographer took several shots. He’ll make such a great dad someday, Emma thought as she joined the pair for a few pictures of the three of them together. She didn’t bother putting her glove back on, as word of the dual proposal had made its way down the line of guests and everyone wanted to see her ring. Once the shift was over, Emma and Killian waved goodbye to the guests and promised Cinderella would be back in about ten minutes. Of course, it wouldn’t be Emma that returned, but one of the other Disney employees.
As soon as they were backstage, Emma and Mary Margaret ran to one another to compare rings and stories. Killian and David’s grins nearly split their faces in two as their eyes met over their ladies oohing and ahhing over their beautiful rings. Ruby and Granny offered their congratulations as well.
“How did you do this?” Mary Margaret asked David. Killian blushed and scratched behind his ear as David related the tale.
“It was Killian’s idea,” he told his fiancèe. “After Emma was assigned as Cinderella last summer, he got the idea of proposing to her while she was on duty.” David shrugged sheepishly and cut his eyes toward his best friend. “Then I asked if I could join him. He wrote the General Manager of the park, outlining his proposal. He knew the chances were next to nothing, but figured he had nothing to lose by asking. So imagine our surprise when he received a letter back two months later with a whole list of requirements we’d need to meet in order to be given approval. It was a no-brainer.”
Emma ran her palm along Killian’s clean shaven face with a slight pout. “And I guess shaving was one of the requirements?”
“It was, Swan. I’m sorry,” he apologized. “But now that this is done, it’ll grow back in just a few days.”
“Good.” She drew him down to her lips and kissed him with all the love in her heart. “I love you, Killian Jones, and I can’t wait to be yours forever.”
Killian grinned and held her close, looking around at the loved ones surrounding them. “Me neither, Love. Me neither.”

Interesting timing on this article...

While for many their jet-setting lifestyle looked dreamlike, it did not impress the late Queen who apparently expressed concern about the number of holidays her future granddaughter-in-law was taking every year. Perhaps aware that William and Kate would soon be engaged, the Queen stressed that the future princess should get a job rather than hopping around from country to country. The stern words of advice were said to have 'stung' Kate, royal expert Katie Nicholl has suggested. She wrote in her 2010 book William and Harry: 'If she was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique. 'Kate was there so often the press dubbed her "Queen of Mustique", a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret'. Princess Margaret's beautiful ten acre manor of Les Jolies Eaux, or Beautiful Waters, became her hideaway from the world's scrutiny after her marriage to the late Lord Snowdon imploded. She later said it was the only place where she could 'truly relax'.  When Kate was on her way to the island in the 2000s, Britain was heading into a recession, and 'such frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to the Queen', according to Ms Nicholls. She added: 'While the rest of the world speculated that an engagement was on the horizon for William and Kate, the Queen believed an announcement should be postponed until Kate was settled in a career.' One source quoted in the book added: 'It is Her Majesty's opinion that if Kate is one day going to be William's consort, then she needs a proper job. 'Swanning from one five-star holiday resort to another is not the prerequisite for a young woman possibly destined to be Queen.'
Why rehash this now? This isn't the stuff regarding the one-year anniversary of QEII's passing that I was expecting to read. This is literally a story that is approximately fifteen years old.
Is the Daily Mail that hard up for stories that they have to rehash a non-issue from prior to 2010? Or is there something else at play? Are they prepping for a new storyline? One they haven't used in a few years?
