Jiaozi is a character from the "journey to the west" of the yuan zaju dynasty, daughter of king huolun jinding and wife of sun wukong, the great sage of tongtian. Sun wukong once said, "I stole fairy clothes, fairy hats, fairy peaches and fairy wine in my heavenly palace. My wife will happily enjoy them." So jiaozi is not only sun wukong's wife also is the mother of his children. Jidu and luohou and daughter yuebei. The eclipses twins and the moon star comet
@maidenofthecloud hmmmm apologies if I'm missing something but as far as I knew "Jiaozi" is just a kind of dumpling (X_X). HOWEVER, this could very well just be due to my own ignorance and the fact that I've never encountered an English translation of the Zaju Xiyou Ji. If you have the link to one please share it!
As it is pretty much all my knowledge of that play comes from the scholar Hongmei Sun's overview of different versions of the the Monkey King throughout the centuries. Here's a few things she has to say on this earlier version of the westward journey:
"The six-part, twenty-four-act Zaju Xiyou ji is attributed to the fourteenth-century playwright Yang Jingxian, who lived during the late Yuan and early Ming periods. In the few hundred years between Shihua [an even earlier version] and Zaju, the story of ‘Journey to the West’ is not only more expanded, containing many of the stories that can be found later in Journey to the West, but the monkey figure in Zaju has grown into a character strikingly different from Hou Xingzhe [the monk's faithful companion in Shihua]. If Hou Xingzhe in Shihua is depicted as an advisor for Tripitaka, as respectable albeit mysterious deity, and a brave fighter, the monkey in Zaju is pictured as a rowdy clown, an untamed demon and ill-qualified Buddhist disciple.
The monkey’s name in Zaju now is almost the same as in the sixteenth-century fiction Journey to the West. He refers to himself as ‘Tongtian Dasheng’ (Great Sage Reaching Heaven), only one word’s difference from ‘Qitian Dasheng,’ the title Sun Wukong receives from the Taoist heaven in the sixteenth-century book. In some versions of the Monkey King story, including the Zaju, Qitian Dasheng and Tongtian Dasheng are brothers…
Although Tongtian Dasheng is the monkey’s title, in the drama everyone calls him ‘the monkey’ (husun), including Guanyin, even though she is the person who gave him the names Sun Wukong and Sun Xingzhe (Acolyte). When Guanyin presents Sun Xingzhe to Tripitaka as his disciple, she gives the monkey an iron fillet, a cassock, and a knife….Even with the headband’s control, Tongtian Dasheng’s behavior and language indicate that his mind remains that of an irreverent demon.
As in the zaju theater tradition, Sun Xingzhe introduces himself to the audience with a poem at his first appearance. Vaunting his celestial birth, his power, and the troubles he could create, in colloquial expression rather than elegant traditional terms as others’ opening poems, the monkey’s poem describes himself as a celebrated ape demon, referring to himself as the King of a Hundred Thousand Demons. In the following statement he introduces himself and his four siblings as his demon family: His elder brother Quitian Dasheng, a younger brother Shuashua Sanlang, and two sisters, Lishan Laomu and Wu Zhiqi Shengmu. This genealogy of the monkey shows that Sun Xingzhe in Zaju is already much more localized, settled into the local religious/cult culture. Unlike the monkey in other versions, this one has a wife, the abducted princess of the Country of the Golden Cauldron. He also proudly reports to the audience his famous misdeeds, which is also the reason that heaven is after him: he has stolen the Jade Emperor’s celestial wine, Laozi’s golden elixir, and the Queen of the West’s (Xichi Wangmu) peaches and fairy clothes. He also makes upfront ribald references about himself in this very first speech. The monkey’s demonic heart is indicated by his intention to eat Tripitaka immediately after Tripitaka rescues him from beneath the mountain. He never shows any seriousness about his business of pilgrimage, and his behavior does not improve during the journey. When the team arrives in India, he uses crude language in a conversation with an old lady about Buddhis ideas of the ‘heart.’”
---
@journeytothewestresearch also writes that in Zaju Xiyou Ji the princess is eventually freed from her forced marriage to this monkey by Heavenly King Li Jing (Li Nezha's father) and the Bodhisattva Guanyin. Here Sun Xingzhe/Sun Wukong definitely bares more similarity to magically powerful and sexually violent monkeys in other stories from Chinese folklore! And that remains true even though the quote you provided makes it sound like he wants the princess to enjoy nice things.
So given these literary and historical circumstances, especially with Jidu, Louhou, and Yuebei Xing not appearing until the 17th century Journey to the South, it might be a stretch to say that the princess of the Country of the Golden Cauldron is a likely candidate to be their mom. This is especially true since as far as I'm aware there's no mention of Sun Xingzhe and the princess having any kids, or even of her being pregnant...ON THE OTHER HAND, it must be acknowledged that she might also be the best candidate given that no mom is mentioned in Journey to the South and that there is a historical precedent for her being Sun Wukong/Sun Xingzhe's wife for awhile. If that narrative thread is followed then it might mean Jidu, Luohou, and Yuebei Xing have more than one similarity to the children of the Yellow Robe Demon, who also kidnapped a princess and had two children with her. In that situation I'd actually hope that she isn't their mom, given that that would make Sun Wukong a rapist and them the product of a forced marriage. ON THE OTHER OTHER HAND, given that the Monkey King's characterization and many aspects of his history from Journey to the West and Journey to the South (as far as I know lmao) is so different from Sun Xingzhe's in Zaju Xiyou Ji , and that all of this comes from folkloric roots in which stories are very different from region to region and even one year to the next, I could see there being an argument made for bringing her into the more recent continuations of Xiyouji as Sun Wukong's wife and the mother of his children while the rapey aspect of the earlier version of their relationship is dropped for something more loving or at least consensual. So even with my ignorance on what precisely happens in Zaju Xiyou Ji and Journey to the South, it seems like as with Xiyouji itself there's a lot you could potentially do with "the princess of the Country of the Golden Cauldron is Jidu, Louhou, and Yuebei Xing's mother" idea, from the sweet and loving to the absolute grimdarkest context.

I've seen people mention that Sun Wukong got married or at least, one of the versions mentions that. It makes me wonder how it works because if we assume that Wukong was a monk's student, then why is there a version where he gets married? I also wanted to know a little more about that version you mentioned that Erlang was married
You might be talked about the Zaju play version which was an earlier version of the Sun Wukong we know today.
That version of Wukong is a vicious, perverted, stupid, cowardly version of Wukong that was actually formed to be the comedic relief (similar to how Bajie is considered the clown in Xiyouji) of the play and to be considered a clown to be laughed at rather than the intelligent, strong, and cunny Wukong we get in the Wu Cheng'en's version. In the Zaju version Wukong kidnapped himself a wife before he became a monk, Princess of the Golden Cauldron country, against her will I might add, and kept her as a trophy in his cave. He also makes several passes at other women like Princess Iron Fan and the Queen of Women's Kingdom in the play, and even Sanzang suggesting that the monk wants him for his "thin waist."
Tumblr media
Needless to say, this version is vastly different than the one that was created nearly 200 years after the play when Wu Cheng'en made Wukong to be more of a mischievous rascal rather than a full blown clown to be mocked by the audience. There have been no modern interpretations of this Sun Wukong as the Wu Cheng'en version is considered the 'canon' Wukong. The reason that Zaju at least make someone sense is that he got married before he was a Monk.
There are some media that does have Wukong with a wife but those are by different authors after Wukong completes his journey. Journey to the West Supplement has it that he married Princess Iron Fan in a dream. Journey to the South suggests that maybe Wukong marries as he has direct kids (assumed biological) but never mentions he has a wife actually. And of course some more modern media has that he has children without or without a wife being mentioned. Depends on what you are watching. And the best I can tell you is that those authors simply are asking that their audience give a little 'suspicion of disbelief' that I have talked about before for the sake of having the narrative flow. NO, it does NOT make sense and it CAN'T really work logically but rather than focusing on that, that plot point is largely ignored to continue the narrative. Such as Wukong just having kids and not mentioning a wife or simply never acknowledging how that doesn't make sense. I talked about that a bit when discussing Wukong's failed romances in media before as there are a lot of movies and shows where Wukong does have a SO but they are usually met with a death fate for the sake of continuity. So there are many versions where he does get married, even if none of them make continuity sense.
And yeah! Lotus Lantern Prequal 2009 was the one where Erlang Shen got married and divorced! It was made after the Lotus Lantern TV show 2005 which was such a hit it made this spinoff. I'll put a link for you if you want to see it! But it pretty much just follows Erlang Shen and his sister Sanseng Mu and how their lives led up to the Lotus Lantern 2005 show.

Magical summer: Medea
MEDEA
Category: Greek mythology
Medea is, alongside Circe, one of the two most famous witches (or sorceress) of all of Greek mythology, being involved in the stories of two of Greek’s most famous heroes – and the Circe/Medea relationship isn’t just a thematic one, as they are also supposed to be from the same family! And of course, both also became heavily talked about, discussed and reinterpreted figures from the Renaissance up to this day. After doing Circe and Hecate, I had to complete the trio.
I) The main story
Now, when it comes to Medea there is a “common” or “main” version. Aka the most popular and well-known version of her story, based on two classics works of Ancient Greece: Euripides’ tragedy “Medea” (from the 5th century before current era) and the epic poem “Argonautica” written by Apollonius Rhodius two centuries later.
Medea is the princess of Colchis (a country on the shores of the Black Sea), daughter of the king Aeëtes (who also happens to be Circe’s brother, making Medea both Circe’s niece and the granddaughter of Helios the sun-god). At one point, a hero named Jason arrives with his crew, the Argonauts, on their ship, the Argos: they are on a quest to obtain the Golden Fleece, a magical fleece of a golden ram that brings wealth and prosperity to whoever owns it. The Fleece is currently the property of the king, who is not ready to part away with it, so he agrees to give it to the hero on the condition that he succeeds at ploughing a field and planting dragon teeth in it. Seems quite easy, but Medea, the king’s daughter, warns Jason of the upcoming dangers: for the beasts of burden are savage fire-breathing bulls, and the dragon teeth once planted will summon a bloodthirsty army of murderous soldiers. But Medea offers Jason her help (as she is a sorceress well-versed in magical crafts, like her aunt) in exchange for his love: she herself had fallen in love with him at first sight. Jason agrees to love Medea, and she offers him several advice and helps (for example he gives him an unguent that will protect him from the bulls’ fire, and she advices him to throw a big rock in the middle of the summoned army so that they would think one of their own attacked and slaughter each other). Despite succeeding, the king still refuses to give Jason the Fleece, so Medea helps once more: the Fleece is kept by a fearsome dragon, so she uses her magic to put it to sleep so that Jason could steal it, and then they elope together on his ship far away from Colchis. The king, discovering the theft, isn’t ready to give up, and sends his own army of ships after them… And Medea decides there is only one way to stop her father. You see, she took alongside her on the ship her little brother, Absyrtos. Well time to put him to good use! She kills him, chops his body into pieces and throws them in the sea : Aeëtes is forced to stop his ships so that he can pick up every piece of his son’s corpse to give him a proper burial.
Back at Jason’s home country, the hero discovers that his treacherous uncle, Pelias king of Iolcos, killed his brother, aka Jason’s father (who he had already stolen the right to the throne from). In his anger, Jason asks Medea to help him to get revenge on the wicked king. She does so by gathering Pelias daughter and showing them she knows a magic ritual that can bring back youth to the old: she takes an old ram, kills it and cuts it into pieces, throws the bits into a boiling cauldron filled with special herbs, recites a few magic words, and a young lamb springs out of the cauldron. The impressed princesses, desperate to please their aging father who keeps wishing he could be young again, decide to take Medea’s offer: they take her magical herbs, secretly kill their father and perform the gruesome ritual… But this time, nothing happens. It doesn’t work. The princesses just killed their father.
Jason got his revenge, but of course such a crime doesn’ go unnoticed: the princesses denounce Medea’s trick and magic, and she and Jason are both banished from Iolcos. The couple takes refuge in another kingdom, Corinth, and become best friends with its king, Creon. They settle there and live peacefully for a few years: Medea has two sons with Jason. But Jason ends up falling in love with the pretty daughter of Creon, the princess Creusa. The king is much too happy of this, as he has no male heir : so he and Jason organize Creusa’s wedding, and Jason basically divorces Medea. Rejected by the man for which she betrayed her father, fled her country and killed her brother, the sorceress’ angered is fueled by the Corinthians dislike of her as a “foreign witch” – they banished her with her children out of the city. Filled with pain and wrath, Medea takes her revenge by sending Creusa a magic dress that bursts into flames the moment she puts it on. The magical fire also burns the king, that was trying to help his daughter, and finally destroys the palace. In her anger that turns into madness, Medea ends up killing her two sons – a last way to spurn Jason – before fleeing.
Medea takes refuge at the palace of the king of Athens, Aegeus. The king had no son, and Medea promised him one if he married her: he did, and she promptly gave birth to a child, Medos. However later Theseus, the long-lost son of Aegeus, arrives at the court. Hopefully for Medea Aegeus and Theseus don’t immediately recognize each other, so to secure her own son’s royal future, she convinces her husband that the newcomer at the court is an usurper trying to kill him. She gives Aegeus a poisoned cup of wine that in turn he should give Theseus during a feast: Medea wants to kill the hero by proxy. But at the last minute Aegeus recognizes his son and refuses to poison him. Medea then invokes a fiery chariot driven by giant snakes/small dragons (a gift from her grandfather Helios), and flees Athens while taking with her both her son and half of the royal treasure. She then returned to her homeland, Colchis, only to find that her father had been killed and dethroned by another man – which she promptly kill, to give back the power to her father. She then lived with her son in Colchis and… we don’t know more.
 II) The other stories
The version of Medea’s tale depicted above is just the more popular and well-known, but given the nature of Ancient Greek literature and myths, there are many more variations – especially older versions of the tale with some significant changes.
For example Hesiod (one of the two oldest writers of Greek mythology alongside Homer) spoke of Medea, but for him she wasn’t a human sorceress as she would later be known – rather she was an immortal, just like her aunt Circe. In Hesiod’s tale, Medea also had no particular role to play in the quest of the Golden Fleece, though she is still seen as the wife Jason got there and fled with. And past Pelias’ death, Hesiod says no more: his story stops at this point, and presumably Jason and Medea lived happily together at Iolcos (plus, in Hesiod’s version the child Medos actually is Jason’s).
Two other writers from the time of Homer (but less known) also offer different versions of Medea’s tale. Eumelos of Corinth writes, in his “Corinthiacs”, that the town of Corinth was given to his son Aeëtes as a gift – but Aeëtes rather lets his daughter Medea and his son-in-law directly rule over the city as queen and king. In this story, the two children of Medea die due to her own fault: in the temple of Hera, she tried to cast a spell that would make her children immortal (the same way she got her immortality through her divine ascendance), but it fails, leading to their death – and the children’s death leads to her separation with Jason, the latter returning at Iolcos from which they came from. Another writer of Homer’s era, Creophylos of Samos, rather writes that while Medea did murder Creon, the death of her children wasn’t from her hands – it was rather the Corinthians who were outraged at the murder of their king, and formed a mob that killed the children. This very old version of the tale ironically reappears in quite late texts from the end of the Ancient Greek civilization, where the story is mixed with the “mainstream” one : as in, after Creon’s murder, the Corinthians rebel against Medea’s claim to the throne, as they refuse to be governed by A) a woman B) a foreigner C) a witch, and despite Medea hiding in Hera’s temple to save herself from the mob, the angry citizens kill all fourteen children of the witch (seven boys and seven girls). Hera, angered by this sacrilege, then sent the plague to punish the city. This legend was supposedly explaining why every year in Corinth fourteen youths, seven boys and seven girls, had to serve at the temple of Hera for a year.
- - -
I had to cut a bit short because Medea is one big slice of Greek mythology's cake, and I don't want to go too much in depth in the character given the "Magical summer" series is just a bunch of introductions. But Medea always was, even in Ancient Greece, a heavily debated and talked about character. A lot of modern and feminist depictions of Medea represent her under a more positive light instead of a villainous one: she was rejected by the husband she sacrificed everything for ; she is a woman of power in a male-dominated world that precisely fears women of power, she is a victim of strong xenophobia that maybe led to her children's death... But these interpretations are to be fair nothing new and already back then people talked about whether Medea should be a hateful or pitiful figure. She is the figure of the "woman's scorned", the embodiment of the woman's vengeance, and as a result there could be some sympathy for her. She also is often depicted as the embodiment of "passions" in what they have of the most destructive and dangerous, a character suffering from the "excess" of her own emotions and temperaments, as she lets herself be overwhelmed by her anger and sadness so much she doesn't just destroy the ones who brought her harm, but also her own children (some versions do depict her expressing an intense regret after the murder, and behaving in a sort of mad rage when killing her sons). But this empathy with Medea is always an ambiguous and cautious one - because even in her most positive depictions, Medea stays a very dangerous figure, and there is a good reason she was seen as a villain for so long. After all, the method she uses to destroy Pelias is not just cunning but also horrifying and traumatizing ; she was willing to betray her father and country for a man she fell in love with despite barely meeting ; and her love for Jason led her to actually MURDER HER OWN LITTLE BROTHER to save her lover, plus there's the whole "wicked stepmother and poisoner-thief" role she has in Theseus' story. Some modern reinterpretations like to argue that Medea might have been a woman entirely manipulated by Jason who exploited her love and magic, and ditched her when he didn't need her anymore... but the reverse interpretation is just as valid: Jason might have fallen in love and accepted gladly the help of Medea, only to realize that her methods were too gruesome and that she was too murderous of a woman for him to spend the rest of his days with.

At that moment, I found myself thinking, “Aah, maybe if I disappeared, if I vanished right now, nobody would notice.”
Once I thought this, I could no longer think of anything else.
Before I realized, my hands and feet had moved. I slowly moved my whole body and left that place behind.
Nobody called for. Nobody tried to stop me.
Which was why I was now hiding. I was in a corner of a maze of roses in the royal palace of this forest kingdom.
I looked up at the sky. It was overcast. The air was a little heavy, so there was a chance of rain.
Was anyone looking for me by now? No, they might not have noticed. I could bet a hundred of Drossel’s white camellias that they hadn’t. “That wouldn’t be a bet,” someone said from within my mind.
——What will happen to me if I just stay here like this?
I tried to think calmly. Firstly, I would get hungry. My body would get bitten by insects. The sky was looking shady, so rain might come pouring down on me. I would get a fever from the cold, and then... and then... and then...
The power of my imagination was scarce, so the scenario ended there.
Stretching out my dress’s sleeves and removing my long gloves, I plucked the grass with a bare hand. Picking up some rose petals that had fallen to the ground, I threw them into the air even though they would not fly too far. I looked almost like a child trying to contain her bad mood. Most likely, if anyone saw me, they would wonder what on earth the queen of Fluegel was doing.
Why had I grown up to be like this? All I ever did was think big of small matters and be in a state of chaos. It was such a weak mindset, which people most likely wouldn’t expect to come from someone born in a family that was meant to rule a country.
“Members of the royal family are actually not supposed to expose their original selves. Under no circumstance should you forget that you must act with dignity and be a role model to your subjects.”
Even though I had already become a wife, I behaved like a little girl.
“However...”
I had experienced a romance like the ones that young girls dream with.
“...from my long time working in the court...”
I fell in love and won my beloved lord over.
“...these have been the most memorable Public Love Letters. Yes... in a good sense.”
After running and running, I was now living the aftermath of that.
My name is Charlotte Abelfreya Fluegel. Already a year had passed ever since I married off to Fluegel.
Charlotte Abelfreya Fluegel and the Forest Kingdom
Drossel and Fluegel – no matter what could happen to these two nations in the future, they had me as their intermediary princess. If I happened to die in this rose labyrinth without anybody ever finding me, I wanted someone to remember that.
As to why things had turned out like this, I’d have to rewind my life a little to explain. I had to mix up the cauldron of time that made the hours pass.
How far back was I supposed to go?
That beautiful golden-haired girl. My favorite. The ghostwriter who had become a mediator for my romance.
Rewinding to the times of Violet Evergarden’s Public Love Letters would be going back too far. It should be a bit later. Perhaps the appropriate would be around the time when I, who was once the third princess of Drossel – that beautiful country where white camellias bloomed in copious amounts –, went away and changed my surname. Yes, right, that was adequate enough.
Fluegel was a neighboring country of prosperous forestry. I was married to the man who had the priority rights to succeeding its throne. Letting go of everything that I had cherished until then, I married off.
I had transformed from a girl into an adult. Although my appearance hadn’t changed much, that was my status.
My husband was Damian Baldur Fluegel. He was the person who possessed the rights of succession as the next monarch at the beginning of our marriage, but a few days ago, he had inherited the throne from his father and become a king both in name and reality. In other words, I had become the queen as well.
Probably the worst queen in history. After all, I had run away.
Let me try to trace the rewound time with exact precision.
Fluegel’s capital was a city of fresh greenery, which had a castle erected in the depths of a forest. Said royal palace couldn’t be considered sturdy or showy, but it was in perfect harmony with the nature, endowed with a calculated beauty. Unlike Drossel, a country that maintained itself through the tourism industry, Fluegel had much of its national interest shouldered by its forestry. Drossel’s national flower was the white camellia, while Fluegel’s was the red rose.
The two countries were separated by a large river, but one would be tempted to wonder how they could be so different.
Differences were by no means a bad thing. After all, Lord Damian and I had met because we had been raised in such different cultures. That was exactly why I became attracted to Lord Damian’s… albeit artless, uninhibited personality, which was so unlike that of the royals from Drossel and other nations...
Yes, “differences” were not bad. But the so-called “differences”... how should I put it? When they weren’t tolerated, instead viewed as an absence of profits and effort, they would turn into a really bad thing.
Most likely, that was what made me the way I was now.
Was this an excuse? It might be. But that was how it was. That was it.
At first, my life in Fluegel didn’t go well.
Becoming used to even small differences in habit was extremely difficult for me, which caused the chamberlain to sigh often. He was someone who deserved respect for having taken care of Lord Damian’s personal matters for quite a long time.
There was no mistaking that I was in a position higher than his, but I soon understood that he looked down on me. One could tell as much by things such as the movements of the other’s eyes and their attitude.
The chamberlain would tell me: “That is not the way we do it in Fluegel”, “This is for your protection. You will be criticized otherwise. Now, fix yourself up”, “I have said this several times, but...”
I didn’t think I was some idiot. I believed myself to be the kind of girl who could do well if I put my mind into it. But I had to admit that I was a very unstable crybaby.
The differences such as the ones that the chamberlain talked about were, for example, the order in which people were seated at meals, how to lift my dress when hopping into a carriage, and other minute details like that. If I were told such things back in Drossel, I was positive that I could internalize it in the first try. After that, I definitely wouldn’t repeat the mistake. But the moment I tried to do it in this foreign country that I wasn’t familiar with, being watched by the monitoring eyes of someone that didn’t have me in his favor, I ended up failing. It was almost as if I were inducing the failure on my own. What was this phenomenon?
The chamberlain most likely knew this as well. He knew it, and even then he would sigh and speak in a detached manner while watching me go pale. There was nothing good in it for either of us, yet we would find ourselves repeating this vicious cycle.
To be honest, we were so incapable of getting along that the desire to jump off from one of the Fluegel castle’s windows as retaliation surged from within me. However, I had no choice but to keep going. Because I was a newcomer and that person was an elder.
If I didn’t get used to this, it would be the end of me.
Right, and there was also the tea party. The flow of the Cauldron of Time had finally returned to the present.
It all had begun… from the chamberlain suggesting that if I, who had become the queen, held a tea party, I would certainly make myself known as someone who shines like the stars in the night sky. He gave a long speech about my authority as a queen being this and that. That detestable chamberlain.
I did like tea parties, but even after being in Fluegel for a year, I wasn’t able to find myself anyone that I could consider close to me, so I frankly didn’t like the idea. I hadn’t gotten myself anyone to be on friendly terms with, so rather than a display of my power, wouldn’t this be deemed as more of a public execution for me?
Ever since I had arrived here, I was in the position of a foreign princess who had a political marriage with Lord Damian, so both the royal family that I had joined and the people who took care of me were somewhat distant… To make things worse, I was the very person who had tainted the traditional event of the Public Love Letters. People were wary of me as an unprecedented princess.
I had seen that Fluegel had a liberal aspect to it and wasn’t too bound by formalities in comparison to Drossel, but when it came to the royal family, that was a different story.
Whenever I passed the corridors of the royal palace, I could hear one name being whispered. Everyone would have faint smiles on their faces. “Baby Princess” was what they called me.
The one who came up with it was Lord Damian’s younger sister or something. Indeed, I had childish facial features and I was the girl who had married for love, so there was no helping that I would be mocked like this.
Receiving a nickname and having it made into a title meant that it was ingrained in people. Once a knight earned himself an alias, others would expect him to have a conduct that was worthy of it. In that same manner, no matter what I, Charlotte Abelfreya Fluegel, might say… I lived in Fluegel as the princess whom everyone would giggle at.
Whenever I made a mistake, “it’s because she’s a child”. If I happened to rush towards Lord Damian, “it’s because she’s a child”. Whenever I said anything, “it’s because she’s a child”.
If there was some magic spell that could turn me into a twenty-year-old right now, I would have taken it. It’d be great if I could instantly grab ahold of my dignity in a way that nobody would complain. But that was something that people had to be awarded to through the years, along with their efforts...
I might have been the Baby Princess today as well – the day of the tea party.
The chamberlain was in awfully high spirits, which one way or another was an omen for misfortune. I was watching from my bedroom as the elderly man briskly instructed the people around him.
From the room where I stayed with Lord Damian, I could see the castle’s garden, the rose maze that started from the garden’s entrance veering to the side, and the castle town. Back when we had just married, we used to often gaze outside the window together, but now we couldn’t even talk for more than five minutes.
Ever since succeeding the throne, Lord Damian was truly busy. He would be working while I waited for him in our room; by the time that I woke up, he would be by my side without me having realized it; as I stretched the creases that formed between his eyebrows while he was dreaming, he would wake up all of a sudden and then head off to the royal office again.
I was depressed since morning, because why did I have to hold a tea party while my husband was working so indiscriminately? But, well, this was also part of my duties. It was important for me to mingle with other women from a social status similar to mine. The trust earned from them would help not just me but also Lord Damian.
Those who controlled factions also had control of politics. Yes, yes, I knew that much. I had to do this exactly because things weren’t going well. In order to level up my speech skills, I had to start from taking up a stance. As my position was becoming worse, if I could get around here well, I would increase my authority in the royal territory without having to recreate myself.
I understood the reasoning behind this. What the chamberlain said was correct. He was implicitly telling me to do right, and I was the one at fault for not managing it...
The tea party was held in the garden outside at the arranged time.
There were people that I hadn’t seen ever since my wedding ceremony, whom I greeted while turning my head around at an incredible speed. Whenever someone sprinkled the subject of political affairs here and there, I’d throw it back at them with a smile, literally tearing apart and flinging away whatever came at me on repeat. Although the scene actually looked like a peaceful conversation, under the surface, I, the queen, was being evaluated, so this was a battle.
I thought I had done a really strenuous effort up until the middle of it. Instilling the impression that “My, so maybe the Baby Princess isn’t a bad person and is surprisingly smart when she talks?” was quite a success. The signs that I could make them deem me as worthy of standing by Lord Damian’s side were becoming visible. However, the very moment that Her Highness, the King’s young her sister, appeared in the tea party, everything I had set up crumbled down at once.
She was pretty late from the scheduled time – rather, she suddenly showed up when it was already ending.
Although she was close to me in age, she had a very adult appearance and was an awfully beautiful person. Renowned as one of Fluegel’s talented women, she was also involved with the National Assembly, and told us that she had rushed over because the meeting had ended just now. I had not yet been allowed to attend the meetings even though I was the queen, so I was terribly jealous... and a little miserable.
Of course, whatever had been discussed there became the topic, which Her Highness told the women present, explaining in a simplified manner. What a wonderful person she was.
Regardless, it felt like this was going to end as Her Highness’s tea party, even though it was mine. Well, that was okay too. Rather, it might be easier if there was someone to take the initiative to talk like this. I had a bug where I couldn’t speak very well to people whom I wasn’t close to, so I decided to leave it to her.
Despite this being a tea party, I hadn’t eaten anything, so I had the feeling that I would get hungry in the evening. I wondered what we would have for dinner.
Just like that, half of my soul disappeared somewhere else, so I didn’t notice that the subject had changed from state affairs to the next successor to the throne.
“Queen, are you listening? If things continue the way they are, there will be no helping it if a concubine is appointed.”
Since I hadn’t noticed it, I couldn’t react right away, even as I took the tremendous brutality of those words to the face. This had happened just a moment ago, so I didn’t remember very well what kind of reaction I’d had. I had the feeling that I had responded with a somewhat sluggish reply such as “aah” or “eeh”... much like the way that living creatures cried for the first time upon being born.
I could immediately tell that Her Highness wasn’t satisfied with my answer.
“It is because you are so laidback like this that the King has to fight the national affairs alone. You still intend to be here as a guest, not doing what you have to do, so everyone has to hold back and nobody can speak up their opinions. Talk more. Be more useful to the country. Most important of all, it has already been a year, yet nothing has been reported to us. Are you seriously discussing the succession with the King? If this goes on, someone will suggest a concubine for him.”
With such words thrown at me in sequence, I—I had... I had a thought. That perhaps she was trying to make me lose heart. Wasn’t I being attacked right now?
I looked around. Nobody attempted to open their mouths in order to defend me. There was no one. I had no one.
All of them were waiting for my reaction.
I knew this situation. I knew it very well. I wasn’t being treated as a person at the moment. My personality was being denied as well. The dignity that should be granted to the human being named Charlotte wasn’t being taken into account.
However, I didn’t break. Why?
Because I was used to being neglected.
“Yes, I am truly doing a poor job. I believe it is as you say.”
I was smiling.
“However, it has not yet been decided what will be my part of the work and what will be the King’s, as we are in the process of deciding on it as a couple.”
I was smiling mockingly.
“Now that I have talked to all of you like this, I have concluded I should propose my thoughts to the parliament slowly, little by little.”
I was... smiling.
“I was the princess of my country. But now, I am the queen of Fluegel. I did not intend to be here in the position of guest, but it is true that I was restraining myself. But is that not the same for all of you? I am aware. Everyone has been... well, surrounding me from a distance and looking after me. I was fretting, as it would have been better for you to tell me more directly if there was anything wrong... By all means, I would like to have a frank exchange of opinions with you in the future... and I hope that we can help each other... as fellow women.”
This was laughable.
Her Highness was appalled. So was everyone else. She must have spoken so conflictingly due to thinking that it was sure to make me start crying.
I wanted her to stop saying such stupid things. I was the former third princess of Drossel. Did she know what kind of country that was? It was a country where it was okay for women to become political tools. We were by no means granted the position to act freely like she did. As the shadows so-called “women”, we had no choice but earnestly do whatever we could.
I was born in a country were women were consumed and worn down. To top it off, I had been raised mostly by courtiers, away from my biological parents. I hadn’t seen my mother in forever.
Exhausted as a result of her marriage of convenience, Mother had Father build her a palace and secluded herself in it all day long every day. She did show up at the wedding ceremony, but she hadn’t even sent me a single letter after I had married off. She had probably already forgotten that she had given birth to me.
But that was the country I had been born in. I had been raised by one of this country’s strong women – a carefully selected, tough woman. This person patiently educated me, even though my aptitude wasn’t good. She explained things to me over and over again. She scolded me a lot. She taught me so that I would be able to marry anyone and live anywhere. She had also predicted that a situation like this might happen. So she told me how to act during a quarrel with other women.
That was why I smiled at times like these.
My looks weren’t bad. I was no idiot. I knew what effects I would bring about if I smiled. There was little that I could do, but I was going to be the one firing the best shot here.
I was a crybaby. I was a weakling. I was lonely.
However, I had been taught well. No matter what, I couldn’t lose in times like these. I knew that much.
I had been protected through the erasure of my personality.
That day’s tea party was over right then, and thanks to the chamberlain saying that it would soon be time to bring it to a close, it ended well.
At a later date, my feud or whatever with Her Highness would become a rumor around the royal palace, but that was a story of the future. In any case, it was over for now. Therefore, I was extremely relieved.
The chamberlain let me return to my room unusually early and consoled me with a “you must be tired”. “You were excellent today,” he told me. Enveloping my shaky palms in his hands, which had wrinkles just like Alberta’s, he warmed them up. “No matter what happens, do not forget that you have one ally,” he said.
From that, I understood a little something. That he, indeed, worried about me in his own way. I wasn’t fond of his way of doing things, but he had struggled as much as he could in order to do something to improve my position.
He had seen what I had gone through today, so he was commending my brave fight. I had been subjected to violence today. I had been told such terrible things. Even though I—I...
I was in love with Lord Damian.
Both Drossel and Fluegel were aware of this. The citizens of both kingdoms knew it. And yet, aah, how embarrassing. But everyone knew.
I was in love with that person. I was in love.
“You have not sired a child after a year, so there might be need for a concubine. Therefore, if such a woman appears, you should accept it,” she said, despite knowing how much it would hurt me.
I was told off. I was told off by the younger sister of the object of my affections. That was what she said to me.
“Thank you, but please, let me be alone.”
I still managed to keep my smile up, but as soon as I drove the chamberlain out of the room, the tears overflowed torrentially and I couldn’t stop them.
There should be things more painful than that out there in the world. I looked like a fool for crying because of something like this. But right now, I was feeling like the most pitiful person in the world. I wanted to return to Drossel. I wanted to go home to Drossel.
No, that wasn’t it. No, that wasn’t it. No, that wasn’t it.
I wanted to go back to the person who would always allowed me to cry, no matter how much I did so. The person who would stay by my side.
“Alberta...”
I wanted to go back to Alberta.
I knew it was stupid of me. But when I thought that a day might come when Lord Damian, my husband – the object of my affections –, would take another woman aside from me, it was so painful. My chest hurt – it hurt so much that it was hard to breathe. So I couldn’t contain my cries.
I wondered what had gone wrong.
Was it because I had started clamming up, since the chamberlain would always hammer me down by saying, “That kind of unheard-of behavior is not allowed here”, so I couldn’t speak the way I wanted to? Or was it because I was late to find out that not assertively addressing the royal family was bad manners, since I was in a position where I had to wait for people to talk to me first back in Drossel?
Perhaps it was everything.
Apparently, Fluegel hadn’t taken in a princess from abroad in the last sixty years, so maybe it was already difficult for them to accept a foreign object like me in the first place. Things would probably have been different if I were a great woman – yes, a woman like Her Highness –, yet I had nothing but tears. Still, was I such a horrible person that I had to be told such things?
Aah, nothing – just nothing. Nothing was working out. It might be that nothing would go well from now on too.
This thought swiftly made its way into my heart.
All of a sudden, I was able to clearly hear the sounds around me. The noises of someone walking, the whistling of the wind outside, my own breathing. The way that the tears fell down as they dripped from my eyelashes, the way that I was suddenly looking at myself in a holistic manner.
Yes, perhaps things would never work out from now onward. If so, then...
Then, shouldn’t I run away?
Several questions – such as to where, with whom and to do what – came to me, but I ignored them. I had probably broken down at that point.
I dropped my own heart, which I had been cherishing as much as possible in order for it not to break, onto my feet. I had the feeling that I heard a clank when doing so.
——Maybe nothing would ever go well in the future.
If so, then no matter how much I exerted myself, it would be useless.
——Maybe nothing would ever go well in the future.
I had to run off to somewhere.
——Maybe nothing would ever go well in the future.
Nobody was going to protect me.
——Maybe nothing would ever go well in the future.
After all, this was a foreign country and Alberta wasn’t here. The only one who could protect me was...
——Maybe nothing would ever go well in the future.
The only one who could protect me was myself.
——Maybe nothing would ever go well in the future.
I had to run away.
——Maybe nothing would ever go well in the future.
I had to run.
——Maybe nothing would ever go well in the future.
If I stayed here like this, I... I might seriously jump off the window.
Once I thought this, I somehow felt like I couldn’t breathe anymore. When I came to my senses, I had left the room.
The courtiers were busy cleaning up the tea party in the garden. The chamberlain had also gone outside in order to instruct them. If I came out of the room without making any sounds, nobody would chase after me right away. When I went into the corridor, there was a soldier, but he was only meant to see whoever entered and exited the place and wouldn’t follow me since he wasn’t my bodyguard.
If it was now, perhaps no one would notice if I disappeared – if I happened to vanish. Once I thought this, I could no longer think of anything else.
Before I realized, my hands and feet had moved. I slowly moved my whole body and left that place behind.
I continued down the stairs and trotted through a passage that relatively few people used. Even then, I did pass by some people, but they didn’t seem to pay any mind to me. To begin with, they might not even have the conceptualization that the queen was running through the halls alone.
It wasn’t like I wanted someone to call for me. However, no one did. No one tried to stop me.
This wasn’t the married life I had envisioned. I did think there would be hardships, but – how should I put it? – I thought they would be rather different. I thought they would be something easier to grasp.
I honestly didn’t know what I was fighting against. Her Highness probably hated my guts, but if I were asked whether she was my enemy, I would say she wasn’t, and I wasn’t mistaken about that. I did think she was cruel, though.
What was I fighting against? What was I scared of? I kept on being intimidated by vague things that I didn’t understand very well and shutting off my typical behavior, and while I was so frightened, my evaluation from the people around me declined, thus I had come to the point of fleeing.
What was I fighting against? Why was I fighting? Why was I...
Why?
Why was I all by myself right now?
After that, I cried myself to exhaustion and fell asleep. Perhaps it was an extremely deep sleep, as I didn’t wake up even when night fell. Nobody realized that I was gone, so there was no ruckus over it.
Therefore, I was able to stay asleep forever.
While sleeping, I had a dream. I dreamed with the people of Drossel. Also, Violet – she appeared in it too. My favorite girl.
She looked at me as I cried and said, just like before, “You are such a crybaby.” She also said, “I would like to cease your tears, but I do not have a handkerchief with me.”
I told her that I didn’t need one and hugged her, asking her to stay by my side instead.
I realized that, while I was crying on Violet’s chest, she had turned into Alberta. When I thought, “It’s Alberta”, the tears overflowed even harder.
I appealed to Alberta. No matter what I said, no one listened to it seriously. No matter what I said, people would make faces, as if poking fun at me. No matter what I said, my situation never improved. No matter who I looked at, nobody would help me. No matter who I looked at, nobody was my ally. No matter where I searched, you wouldn’t be there. No matter where I searched, you wouldn’t be there. No matter where I searched, you... you... you...
“It’s because you’re not here, Alberta, that I’m so very weak.”
Even a crybaby like me would be able to act high and mighty if you were there. I would’ve been able to maintain my dignity as a princess. But now I was everyone’s bootlicker. This wasn’t me.
That was why my heart broke and, yes, I dropped it on the floor.
“Alberta, did you not see my heart somewhere around here? I need it... I need it...”
If I didn’t have it with me, Lord Damian would—
“Were you waiting for me to search for you?” a husky voice whispered.
That was when I woke up.
Just like that one time, the Full Moon was looming over the night sky. The stars and moon were so beautiful in the blooming season of roses.
In a dreamy state of mind, I blinked. The tears spilled again. When my husband saw me weeping, he embraced me as if to hide me from the night sky.
“I will report to the soldiers that she has been found.”
“I don’t want any fuss. Leave us for a while.”
When I heard the voice of the chamberlain as well, my consciousness finally returned to reality. He had said “soldiers”. This might have turned into a big deal. But right now, I didn’t think it would be too scary even if my heart were destroyed. “Is that so,” was all I thought.
This marriage might really be done for now.
Once Lord Damian shooed him, he put his coat over me and crouched down. He gripped my hand, guiding me and carrying me in bridal style.
“This makes me look like a child.”
“No. You’re my wife, aren’t you? And a princess.”
There wasn’t anything else I wanted to do, so I just nodded and did as I was told.
The two of us went through the maze of roses. There was probably someone watching over us. The light of a lantern swayed in the distance as a guide.
“Do you want to divorce from me?” Lord Damian muttered out of the blue with a quivering voice, leaving me in shock. I didn’t understand very well what he was saying.
“Lord Damian, if you want to do so...”
“That’s not it, Charlotte. I don’t want to break up with you... but I was wondering... if you might be thinking of doing that, right now...”
I wasn’t sure what he was talking about.
“Ralph, the chamberlain... has been telling me all this time. That if I were to take the hand of a princess from another country for the first time in sixty years, there would definitely be criticism. He told me to make sure to protect you when the time came.”
What was he saying?
“At first, I thought I was nailing it. I stayed by your side, so that no one could even try to say anything inappropriate to you...”
What was he... saying?
“But then I had to succeed the throne... there were tons of responsibilities stacked up in front of me, and I started looking only at those stacks... I didn’t even realize that you were in such a painful spot. It’s not your fault. I’m the one who isn’t ruling the country right, and for some reason, that’s being taken out on you. Stupid, isn’t it? It’s ridiculous. Everyone thinks it’s okay to do this to you just because you’re an outsider.”
——You’re not the one to blame. I’m aware of my own defects too.
“I also heard about what happened today. It seems you acted dauntless, even though my sister said something truly foolish to you...”
——You’re not the one to blame. Lord Damian. I know it. I know that you look sour every night when you sleep. You’re doing your very best. You’re doing your best every day – every single day. I know that. You may be ten years older than me, but you’re also...
“I’m... I’m pathetic. It’s fine if you complain. Yet you haven’t uttered a single grumble to me until now. Not to Ralph, either. We basked in the fact that you were holding back and nobody took notice of it. And so, we cornered you. Until you ran away, just like that.”
——You’re also still so young.
“I’m... pathetic... I cornered my own wife...”
——So lost, so scared.
“...to the point that she ran away... barefoot.”
——And shaking.
“Charlotte, have you come to hate me already?”
——Aah, Lord Damian. So you cry too, huh. For some reason, I used to think that you didn’t shed tears. I wonder why. You were a moonlit prince for me, so I thought you didn’t cry. But I see. That’s right, even you...
“I like you. I want to stop your tears.”
——Even you have a crybaby side.
Tumblr media
After Lord Damian had said so, I realized for the first time that I was barefoot. I had the feeling that I was wearing shoes when I left the room – I wondered what had happened. He told me that someone had looked for and retrieved them. For how long had they been searching for me? If it was enough to make this man cry, then they must have searched everywhere.
Needless to say, I was such a handful of a woman. However, my heart, which had broken apart and scattered away, began setting itself in motion little by little. I could feel it regaining its warmth.
The reason might be that, for the first time ever since I had married him, we had now finally become a couple.
He asked me if I had anything that I wanted to do or that I wanted him to do. I told him that I wanted to see Alberta. He told me that he understood. He then asked if there was anything else, and so, I told him something that everyone had laughed at. We were had gone through a lot to be married, so I wanted to do something for both of our countries. I proposed that we build an orphanage near the national borders. Lord Damian didn’t laugh. He told me it would be great.
“Let’s think things out together. I regret not talking about this before because I thought it might be a burden to you. From now on, let’s have proper talks, the two of us. About happy things, sad things, painful things. I want you to talk to me. And I also want you to listen to me,” he said. He then kept on asking if there was anything else...
Lastly, I asked him to lock me up in the palace if he ever found himself a concubine. He got angry, saying he would never have one. We couldn’t be sure. It seemed we had no knack for child making. A concubine might be necessary. Lord Damian said that even then, he didn’t want one.
And then... And then... And then... What was it again?
I buried my face into Lord Damian’s neck. It had his scent, which always made my heart race whenever I sensed it.
“Hey, maybe I want to kiss you right now. My face is a mess because I cried a lot, though. Would you do it even with a wife like this?” I asked.
Lord Damian laughed while crying. “Even if you cry, you’re my lovely wife. Of course I’d do it.”
Overjoyed at these words, I shed warm tears.
When we kissed, as expected, it was a bit salty. My heart throbbed.
“I’m still in love with you, but what about you?” I asked, making sure to sound as if any answer would be fine.
Unsurprisingly, Lord Damian continued making a tearful face. “I actually only fell for you after we got married. So my heart’s beating really fast right now.”
“I see. So our feelings are mutual. That’s amazing,” I said, impressed.
“Then, what did you think it was until now?” he asked.
“A one-sided love,” I answered sincerely.
“Don’t you hear when I tell you that I love you every morning before I leave our room?”
“I do, but I thought it was some sort of flattery...”
“I’m not such a pro at that. When I like something, all I can say is that I like it. I’m very honest. You found that out on your tenth birthday, right?”
“How nostalgic... I’ve been in love with you all this time since then.”
I was living the aftermath of that story. I didn’t know whether it was a happy or sad one. But I would live, live and live. And this would probably go on forever. I was on my own in this royal palace.
But I wasn’t all alone.
“Damian, do you love me?”
“I do, Charlotte.”
I was living here, in this forest kingdom.

THE PRINCESS WHO GOT LOST IN THE WOODS
(Brazilian Tale)

Once upon a time there was a widdow king. His daughter was more beautifull than the precious stones and the most shinning stars of the sky. The king adored his daughter, but still felt frustratred for not having a son who could one day inherit his domains and command his armies and his people's destinies. But instead of marrying again and try to have the son he wished so much, the king decided that his daughter, and no one else, would inherit everything he posessed.
And the princess growed up more beautifull, spoiled and difficult to dominate every day. She disdained of the dangers, swiming in the darkest waters and jumping over ravines and fences with her horse around the road.
One morning, she went to talk with her father, telling that she wished to go in a hunt. The king got concerned, and started to say that a woman's place was at home close to luxury, surrounded by pretty dresses, jewels and perfumes. The princess smiled, saying that she liked pretty dresses, jewels and perfumes, but she also liked travelling, knowing distant places and facing the surprises. Finally, her father agreed. Some days later, the princess, elegantly dressed in a velvet dress and with a pair of white gloves in her hands, went to acompany a group of hunters.
The woods were closing more and more. The princess, excited, rided her horse so fast that she separated from her companions and got lost in the woods. Avoiding getting nervous and concerned, the princess found a fountain, dranked some wather, and layed over a rock to sleep and wait for the other hunters.
While she was having the sweetest dream, a prince, son of a neighbour king, passed by. He never had saw such beautifull and delicate lady. He waited for her to wake up, but she was tired that continued sleeping. Seeing that it was getting dark, the prince decided to go back and bring a carriage to take the princess with him. To mark who and where she was, he tooked one of princess's white gloves and went back to his palace. Soon after the prince departed, the princess opened her eyes.
She quickly jumped at the back of her horse and runned to search for the hunters, but didn't found then. In her ride, she arrived at a distant country and, afrayed of saying who she was and being called an impostor, the princess went to a store, bought some simple clothes, and went to find a job. She ended up being employed as a maid at the royal palace, and the queen, taking a liking for the young lady, decided to make her lady in waiting of her daughter, who, sadly, was mad, suffering of long moments of sadness and delirium, not even recognizing her parents. The young maid, pitting the princess, decided to invite her for a game of cards to confort her a bit.
Then, sudenly in one afternoon, the sky felt in complete darkness. Everyone went into hiding, but the princess disguised as maid, after asking for the princess to wait a bit in her room, went out to see what was causing the sudden darkness.
Between some trees, she saw a light. Following that light, she found three strange figures, two big dogs and a person involved in a long mantle with a hood, mixing the content of a cauldron while singing:
Round and round that while it goes round
The sweet princess cannot think
Turn it and turn it that while it turns
The sweet princess will be mad
Unnafrayed, the young maid camed from behind the bushes, saying to the strange figures that the light was missing and that she camed to ask for some fire to continue her game of cards with the princess.
The hooded figure didn't want to believe her, saying that the princess was too mad to play cards. The maid denied, saying that the princess was very beautifull, inteligent, witty and invincible in the game of cards.
Furious, the hooded figure tooked the two dogs by their collars and trowed then in the cauldron, acusing then of having lied.
Lighting a candle that she brought, the princess returned to the palace, and saw everyone merry, celebrating the return of the light and the princess apearing completely healed.
The maids fame travelled to the world, and she was called to another kingdom, to help another king whose daughter, the princess, had sadly and misteriously become mute. Arriving at the palace, the princess turned maid becamed imediate friends with the mute princess, talking trough gestures and facial expressions. Meanwhile, she investigated the reason for the princess not being able to speak. Eventually, she asked to sleep in the princess's room. The king agreed.
In the first night, just as the mute princess closed her eyes, the princess turned maid heared a noise. Pretending to sleep, the maid saw, with her side eye a hatch magically appearing on the floor. The hatch openned, and from it raised an imense and ugly dog. The maid closed her eyes in terror. The same happened a second night, but at the third she got determined to keep looking till the end.
The hatch oppened again. The dog, who walked in two feet, raised up, camed close to the princess, putted a golden ring on her finger and gaved her a long kiss. Then he returned to the whole from where he camed. Quickly, the maid raised from her bed, tooked the golden ring of the princess hands and trowed it out the window. Some hours later, the dog returned to kiss the poor princess again. When he saw that she wasn't wearing the ring, he searched everywhere in the room, cried and howled, until running back to the whole, from where he never returned.
At the next morning, the enchantment being broken, the princess was speaking, singing and laughing again.
In the middle of this joy, a third kingdom called the help of the maid: their king's son fell in love with a lady in the woods, but she had disapeared. Once a giant of strenght and health, the prince was now ill in his bed. Life didn't made sense without that lady. Feeling she should atend the call of that desperate father, the princess tooked the journey. She found the prince layed in bed, looking more death than alive, with his eyes closed. In his hand, he holded a white glove, at wich's vision the maid exclaimed:
-But i know that glove!
With a weak voice, the prince sayed:
-If that is true, you must have the other.
-It is here in my hand!
Exclaimed the maid, showing her hand.
Slowly opening his eyes, the prince first saw the glove and then looked at the lady's face. Jumping from his bed, the prince called his family, saying that he had found the person he was looking for and was no more feeling the wish to die.
The princess told who she was, cried, and sayed that she missed her father. The prince asked for her hand in marriage. The princess's father was warned, and in less than a month, the most beautifull party was trowed to celebrate the wedding of the two youths.
As bridesmaids, the bride invited the princess who once could not talk and the princess who, one day, was tought to be mad.

Disney Movies List
Ok first of all I want to make clear that english is not my first language. I therefore apologize in advance for any grammar or spelling mistakes. Please don't be too strict with me =D
I recently bought Disney+ and I plan now to watch and review every movie, Disney has ever produced or participated in it. And I tell you, this will be a hell of a trip, because my list now contains no fewer than 701 movies. That means if I watch at least one movie every day, it will take me about 2 years to see all of them. And since I will most likely not watch a movie every day, I will definitely need at least twice as long....
For the films on my list, which I marked with a cross at the end, it means that I have seen them already. However, since I last saw most of these movies in my childhood or teenage years (so at least 15 years ago), it will be interesting for me to rewatch them after such a long time. I have probably already forgotten most of the plots.
I also plan to watch them in chronological order and rank them. The movies that I don't find on Disney+ I will watch somewhere else.
Here is the list: (The films follow the chronological order in which they were published. However, it is quite possible that I accidentally swapped a few. But I think most of it is accurate).

old sailor moon fic idea i had
so i had this idea ages back and i can’t find my notes from it, but it was this sailor moon fanfic wherein it’s after the Stars arc and Usagi and Mamoru have gone and gotten married at last, and they’re away on their honeymoon to America (since Mamoru was originally on his way to Harvard when he was abducted?/Killed? it’s been a while since i’ve read the manga) and basically they’re out of the country and unable to come back for some time.
And the world has been peaceful and stuff, to the point that the senshi have forgotten that sometime soon some big event is going to happen that’s going to cause earth to be frozen until the 30th century, and then Usagi will become Neo-Queen Serenity and establish Neo-Crystal Tokyo. Like, this has to happen, but because of there being no need for the sailor senshi for quite a long time now, they just kind of.... had it slip their minds that something terrible is going ot be happening soon.
anyway, so usagi’s around 20-21 at this time, and she becomes Neo-Queen Serenity at age 22 (according to the manga, i think). So that’s the situation up to the point of when i have the AU set.
So, while Usagi and Mamoru are away on their honeymoon, a mysterious enemy begins appearing and leaving withered husks of people in their wake. or places where they’ve appeared or attacked look like they’ve become ancient ruins and stuff like that. by the time the sailor senshi arrive to deal with the situation though, every time, there’s other people there and they’ve just defeated the bad guys and are about to leave.
well one day, the hikawa shrine is attacked directly and Rei transforms to fight the monster before the mysterious heroes arrive. and while she’s strong, the enemy is stronger. when the mystery heroes get there, she gets a good look at them and sees that they wear armor rather than a traditional sailor senshi uniform. but some of their attacks are very similar to ones she and the senshi use, even if the names of the attacks are different. mind you, there’s only like, 3 or 4 of these heroes at the time. when the fight’s over she’s like “who are you people? are you here to help us?” and one in gold armor is like “you could say that.” and then they leave.
anyway, so the plan for the story was for these heroes to end up joining the sailor senshi to fight off this new evil and over the course of the story, which was going to be chaptered and rather long, the senshi learning that these heroes are the Knights of the Golden Millennium Solar Kingdom, which is from a parallel universe, and their universe was destroyed by an evil entity called Entropy, which was that universe’s version of Chaos. And this other universe is genderswapped, save for the Knight from Uranus, who’s non-binary (AMAB). And it’s not a weird time thing that’s happening to the places where these attacks happen, it’s pieces of their world manifesting in the sailor senshi’s universe. A universe where Earth is a ruinous wasteland because the evil sorcerer King Beryllium managed to win the war against the Golden Millenium and kill Queen Serenity, who was not residing on Earth’s moon at the time, but on the planet Apollo, which was situated between Mars and Jupiter. The knights had been forced to take refuge in a neighboring star system as Beryllium took over their entire solar system for his master, Entropy.
Anyway, so eventually the two teams will fully team up, the senshi will get a power boost (but not new forms), and basically have to hold the fort until Usagi and Mamoru get back. The couple end up getting back to Japan during a lull in the fighting period and get caught up on what’s been happening.
I forget what happened between this point and the big battle against the baddie, but essentially it was a situation where the knights end up sacrificing their lives to help Usagi freeze the world to stop Entropy from spreading, and Prince Apollo, the genderswapped Usagi, uses his golden crystal (again, the other universe version of the Silver Crystal), and temporarily fuses it with the silver crystal to trap Entropy and send it where it can never harm anyone again... only, that doesn’t exactly go to plan - as it ends up being sent to the Cauldron (the same galaxy cauldron from the Stars arc), where it will end up ultimately fusing with Chaos leading to a more powerful enemy waaaaay in the future for Sailor Cosmos to fight.
Prince Apollo dies, with his final wish being that Usagi keep his crystal and that one day, if the universe is ever in danger from Entropy again, she is to take his powers and use them herself to protect life.
eons later, when all is lost, this will ultimately lead Neo-Queen Serenity to combine the Silver Crystal with Apollo’s golden one, giving her the ultimate form of Sailor Cosmos, elevating her power to that of godhood so that she can fight Chaos, who is now the combined powers of Chaos and Entropy.
Cosmos will flee at some point into the past to help Eternal Sailor Moon - the Stars arc - and when she returns, the fires of her hope re-lit, she knows what she must do. because she’s already done it once before. she fights Chaos, and manages to lure it back into the cauldron and this time she goes with it, and tells the guardian fairy that yes, she wishes to start again.
And so, in the cauldron, the powers of sailor cosmos and of chaos are dissolved, broken down into their most basic components. first chaos is separated from entropy. then each separated from their star seeds. then the seeds sent out. their essences scattered once again into the void to eventually coallesce into existence again. and sailor cosmos’s power is broken down as well. the silver and golden crystals separated again. the silver crystal’s power broken down further into smaller chunks - star seeds - and sent out to a fledgling solar system. the golden crystal is broken down into smaller chunks... but rather than star seeds, these are heart sparks - which is what they were called in the parallel universe - which rather than go into a person, they go into the cores of the planets and planetoids of that same fledgling solar system that the silver crystal star seeds went to. one star seed goes to what will become Earth’s moon while one spark bypasses it and the world forming between what would become mars and jupiter, and goes directly into the heart of the star in the center of the new solar system, Sol.
And it’s revealed at the end by the fairy that this is a never-ending cycle. sure, the little things change constantly with each iteration, but the key points of each “cycle” remains the same. chaos and entropy will rise up, and to protect all life, a king and a queen will rise up as well and use their combined power to cleave the universe in two, leading to two parallel universes. in one entropy, in another chaos. and sometimes it swaps - the star seeds will fight entropy and the heart sparks will fight chaos. but eventually one will fall and rejoin the other. Sometimes there’s Neo-Queen Serenity, sometimes there’s Neo-King Apollo. Sometimes there’s Sailor Cosmos at the end of all things. Sometimes it’s the Cosmic Knight. But always, it ends and then begins again. Their faces may change, but their souls, their star seeds, their heart sparks remain the same, as does their mission - to protect all life in whatever form it may take, from the darkness until it’s time to start over.
SIDE NOTE - the senshi’s names are always their planets, Sailor Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, etc. The knights are always called things like “Sir Ares, Sir Hermes, Sir Zeus” etc with that world’s version of Mamoru being “Lady Gaia”. And that world’s version of Usagi and Mamoru (Apollo and Gaia) also have a tragic love story, with Princess Gaia running away from Earth to join Prince Apollo against the wishes of her father who is brainwashed by the wicked King Beryllium with the intent of making Princess Gaia marry him.

AURADON KINGDOM TOUR: 01. Corona
In southwestern most region of WesterIyshire, lies the city state of Corona. One of the oldest territories of Auradon while also being one of the most modern, Corona boasts one of the most diverse cultures with an emphasis on the arts. Corona’s main claim to fame is the story of its lost princess, found again 18 years following her kidnapping. The current Countess Rapunzel of Corona is the natural born daughter of the former monarchs King Frederic and Queen Arianna stolen from the cradle by the villainous Mother Gothel, with once magical hair empowered by the fabled Sun Drop Flower. Her marriage to reformed thief Eugene Fitzherbert, formerly Flynn Rider, is one of the most endearing, and in some circles most controversial, romance stories of the 18th century. Either way, the earldom is one of the most prominent families in all of Auradon.
Corona itself is split into two main cities; the former stronghold of Old Corona, renamed Tangleton, which is situated on the mainland and bordered on most sides by woods and by the coast to the south, and then the new Corona, a small island city upon which the castle was built. The ‘floating city’ Corona was built in the mid 16th century on an island just off the Westerly coast following the construction of the Great Bridge. This island has hosted the former royal family of Corona ever since its establishment. This city was also the setting of one of the largest battles of the Cauldron War, just at the close of the war, which accounts for much of its recent reconstruction. As such, Corona is a modern style city with rows of townhomes in various lively colors, painted with sun sparks and flowers, similar to the Garden District of Auradon City, whereas Tangleton resembles older medieval style homes of stone and thatch.
Corona is an epicenter of art and theater whereas Tangleton is one of the main ports for goods as well as marine farming. Notable locations include the robust town square of Corona which is adorned in murals bearing the sun symbol of the Fitzherberts and some of the best shopping outside the capital city, and then the Snuggly Duckling Pub and Inn of Tangleton run by the Countess’s ruffian friends where one can find good drink, company, and entertainment. Some tourists even attempt to venture deep into the Tangled Woods to find the fabled Gothel Tower where Countess Corona was once held prisoner, though very few have been able to locate the crumbling structure.
Once a year Corona becomes a center stage for Auradonian society when they flock there for the yearly Lantern Festival, hosted in conjunction with Countess Corona’s birthday. As has been tradition from her birth, the citizens of Corona let out lanterns in honor of the one missing princess, lighting up the night sky in a golden glow. There have been slight modifications to the tradition in recent years, such as writing down one’s dream in the lining of the lantern as a wish to the gods to make it come true in the coming year. This tradition is mostly seen in Corona but has become adopted in other territories on the same day for those unable to afford the travel to Westerlyshire for the festivities. Aside from this, Corona has a bimonthly reception at the Sun Drop Art Gallery featuring work by its renown Countess and pieces from artists across the country and monthly piano recitals by the award winning Hook Hand at the Corona Theater House. And every holiday in the city is marked with all the townsfolk gathering to perform the regional Kingdom Dance, a line dance which has origins in the earliest days of Corona.
Among its more unorthodox traditions include the lack of shoe wearing in and around the cleanest parts of the city, the trend for young women to wear their hair loose or in intricate braids bearing regional flowers, and the mingling of upper and lower classes. While Corona has its own diverse noble house system, the floating city was built to bring together people of all backgrounds in Corona in one beautiful place. The castle doors are always open to its citizens to reach out to their local nobles on all things in respects to the region, and people of all walks are welcome to the castle during festivities to sit and partake in the splendor alongside its leadership. As such, Corona is often seen as “the people’s kingdom”, lacking in the social divide of other areas in the country.

Is sun wukong a jueyuan?
I honestly had no idea that a jueyuan even existed until you brought them up @lightningeringeopal, but as I'm always interested in learning about different mythological creatures thank you for making me aware of these (in all honestly very disturbing) apes!
(Heads up for mentions of sexual assault in the following paragraphs)
A cursory glace around the internet doesn't reveal much information, but to give a summary of what little I could find a jueyuan is a rhesus macaque that managed to live for 1,300 years and over that time became much taller (~5 feet), more humanoid (they walk upright and live in villages), and gained a number of magical skills. Jueyuan seem to be particularly noticeable in the fact that they are all male and are known for kidnapping women & forcing them to have their children. To put it more bluntly, the jueyuan are a clan of simian rapists who force pregnancy on their victims. Jueyuan also have no role in raising their children (they make/let their victims leave the jueyuan village as soon as they are pregnant), but they will kill a woman who refuses to raise the resultant child. A pretty vile lot all around.
The children of this forced coupling are described as being indistinguishable from a child with two human parents. It was apparently pretty common in some areas for children born out of wedlock to be ascribed as having jueyuan for fathers, and they were given the family name Yang (it serves as a provisional family name). This has led some people to speculate that the jueyuan were created as a means for women to "explain" illegitimate children.
So with this in mind, I don't think you could call the monkey king or indeed any member of his monkey family a jueyuan. While they ARE both simians that act pretty human, Sun Wukong originated from a stone, gained vast magical power in a pretty brief period not through age but through studying under Patriarch Subodhi, and consistently shows 0% interest in either marriage or sex. The monkeys that make up the Huaguoshan troop are also both males and females of many different species, but they all organized themselves as one great happy family under the surname Sun when Sun Wukong decided to adopt all of them at once & become communal grandpa. OG classic monkey king is grandpa extraordinaire, but jueyuan he isn't.
THAT SAID, I think you could make an argument that an earlier version of the monkey king in the play Zaju Xiyou Ji, Sun Xingzhe, was either very much inspired by or was working off of the same archetype of "lecherous ape man" as the jueyuan. Sun Xingzhe not only serves the role of a crude clown who's constantly making sexual innuendos, but also kidnapped the Princess of the Country of the Golden Cauldron to be his wife. Another magical monkey with a predilection for kidnapping women who may have also served as an inspiration for the monkey king is present in the Tang-era story of a magic white ape, which the always-interesting @journeytothewestresearch provided a good overview of here:
Supernatural ape creatures seem to take many different shapes and forms and work off of all sorts of ambitions and desires, but at least in this case I feel comfortable in concluding that the monkey king we all know and love is a very different simian from the jueyuan.
Someone also drew a comic that summarizes the jueyuan pretty well here:

it’s 3 am and I’ve just been rambling about the quality of life of the common folk under the monarchies of various Disney films (evil magical interference aside) and how do I even still have followers on twitter??
anyway, a summary:
(not in any particular order)
the good:
little mermaid: in Atlantica, prognosis is good. Triton may need parenting classes, but the country (?) seems prosperous, people seem happy. however, on land, I am somewhat confused about who’s actually in charge in Eric’s kingdom? like Eric is the “prince” but who’s the king/queen/regent/leader? he’s clearly in line for the throne?? why do they just let him wander around doing whatever? he almost died like 4 times in that movie. if you want to live in this movie, stay in the water.
tangled: good! live in this country! one of the only disney films that explicitly says the people are happy and well-cared for. this royal family has experienced tragedy but they haven’t let that keep them from being good, responsible rulers. kudos!
brave: reasonably okay! Fergus is useless, but Elinor is a boss-ass bitch and Merida probably will be one day once she grows up a little.
moana: also good! one of the only really selfless, smart, capable, well-trained monarchs we’ve seen in all of disney and it’s really a breath of fresh air. she loves her people, they love her back, and she consciously went on an adventure that gave her emotional satisfaction but only as a side effect -- she went out on a limb for her people and thought about them nonstop the entire film, which ended in their lives being made tangibly better. A+, Moana.
the fine:
sleeping beauty & cinderella: seem pretty okay, magical interference aside. these two movies do seem to share a king or have them be twins separated at birth or something, though, so that raises questions.
mulan: emperor seems pretty wise, pretty strong. you’ll have Mulan there to protect you. gender roles are a buzzkill, but they seem open to change. you’ll probably do okay if you steer clear of shan yu.
princess and the frog: Naveen’s just a spare prince so it’s hard to know, but they seem well off, his parents seem nice, and they were wise enough to tell him to get a real job. I can respect that. it’s probably a country that’s fine.
pocahontas: you’ll do well living there, I suppose, until their land is stolen.
the bad:
snow white: not that bad, probably? like the queen’s a stone-cold bitch but I don’t remember any proof that she mistreated the people any more or less than her predecessor did. snow white’s kingdom: fine unless you’re snow white. THOUGH post-movie is there even a kingdom?? the queen is dead and the only living heir seems to have absconded to another kingdom... who knows.
robin hood: yikes. never live in a country where you have to depend on thieves to eat.
the lion king: move, if possible. Mufasa’s dead, Scar’s the worst, Simba is difficult to depend on. the lionesses should take over bc they seem pretty capable.
frozen: what the hell!! what the hell! so what we have here is a kingdom where absolute power has been given to two emotionally volatile and somewhat stupid young women, and there doesn’t seem to be any backup plan. during the course of the movie, both of them literally ran out into the wilderness and handed the reins of their country over to a goddamn stranger. he turned out to be a prick and he was still the only person in the movie who engaged in any sort of relief effort for the freezing people. why wasn’t there some kind of regent or literally any kind of backup plan? that’s really worrying considering how useless the royalty is! Elsa, the goddamn queen of Arendelle, still never even made the conscious choice to come back! she was literally kidnapped after abdicating her throne, and all she did in the end of the film was decide not to reabdicate. she never actually went back! she had to be kidnapped back! Elsa isn’t dependable at all and Anna’s a fucking idiot! Tangled exists in the same world as this, move to their kingdom. what the hell.
agrabah: jesus fucking christ this kingdom needs a goddamn revolution. the people are starving while an idiotic sultan plays with toys in his golden palace, and the princess whines all day about the sorrows of being rich. even after she sees how destitute her people are, she never really seems to think much about this beyond “wow, sad, yikes” and doesn’t make any plans to institute social change. forget Jafar, this country already has issues.
emperor’s new groove: still somehow better than agrabah. weird how stupid, selfish, rich rulers who live off the bounty of their poorest subjects are portrayed differently in these two films! at least things will be much better post-film.
peter pan: peter pan is the ruler of his little domain, and he’s terrifying. seek help immediately, consider joining the pirates.
black cauldron: only a guess, but this place seems fuck-awful.
?????
beauty and the beast: ??????????????????? don’t even try to figure out how this monarchy works, you’ll hurt yourself.

Bun, Mien, Pho Cuon – Unique features in Vietnamese cuisine
Bun, Mien, Pho Cuon – Unique features in Vietnamese cuisine
In addition to Pho – a typical dish that should be on your list when in Vietnam, there are also other delicious dishes made from the same ingredients, such as: Bun (vermicelli), Pho “Cuon” (spring rolls with beef), Mien that once eating, you will remember them forever. Their variety, eye-catching display, and delectable are the reasons why everyone wants to come back and enjoy it again.
1 – Bun
Did you know Bun is the third most popular starchy food in Vietnam after rice and pho? From the North to the South, Bun are popularly known and collectively called Bun Though this is a long-standing traditional dish of Vietnam, the origin of Bun is not clear. There is an anecdote telling that this food was from an anecdote of King An Duong Vuong: “While preparing a party for the princess My Chau, a chef accidentally spilled rice flour into a basket in a cauldron of boiling water, turning the rice flour into long white strings. It would be a waste if we didn’t use that mistaken food, right? So he stir-fried this white flour with celery as the appetizer.
Unexpectedly, when the party started, the strange food was again noticed by the king and wholeheartedly praised. That was how stir-fried noodles were born and became one of the favorite dishes on the royal menu. Bun evolved from there, would you like to enjoy this special dish? From North to South, Bun contributes to the diversity of Vietnamese cuisine. Clean, chewy, delicious noodles combined with many typical broths from all over the country creates various famous dishes with the brand name “Made in Vietnam”.
Bun Cha from Hanoi
Bun cha is the top choice in addition to pho when visiting Hanoi. Bun cha consists of vermicelli and grilled sliced pork and meatballs. The highlight is the sweet and sour sauce prepared by the locals in a recipe that combines fish sauce and carrots, papaya blended with barbecue to create an indescribable flavor.
Enjoying a bowl of hot bun cha with the fragrant meat that has just been fresh from oven at the restaurants on Hanoi streets will definitely be an unforgettable impression for you.

Make you not restrained, just a bowl of vermicelli filled with golden grilled meat fragrant with lemongrass, green vegetables, and the sweet-salty taste of chili fish sauce with sour food and peanuts blending together, so the dish is hard to resist.
