Almighty God, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, come to the aid of those in prison and grant them Your peace in the midst of this difficult time in their lives. I believe Lord, that all of the trials of life are under Your care and that all things work for the good of those who love You. Take away from those in prison all fear, anxiety and distress. Help them to face and endure incarceration with faith, courage and wisdom. Grant that this trial may bring them closer to You for You are our rock and our refuge, our comfort and our hope, our delight and our joy. I trust in Your love and compassion. Blessed is Your name: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Today’s Gospel reading was foundational to my understanding of prison ministry. The angel of the Lord tells Joseph that Mary’s child, Jesus, is coming to save his people from sin. We are reminded of the prophecy, “They shall name him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”

To save us from sin, Jesus first came to be present with us. We cannot underestimate the healing power of a compassionate presence.

Prison ministry, at its core, is a ministry of presence. It is the act of sitting with someone and acknowledging our shared humanity — the same humanity that Christ came to be a part of.

sometimes i ALSO think about the fact that when the zhaitan disaster happened, the canthan imperial family apparently had. kurzick ambassadors held as political prisoners. keep in mind that was like. 100 years after the kurzicks were basically wiped out. which meant there were barely any kurzicks left at that point, and two of the few remaining ones (who were zu heltzers!!!) were held as political prisoners.

i feel. extremely Normal And Not Murderous about this fact. :)
