La Refinería de Cadereyta y sus altas emisiones de PM2.5

Las quejas y denuncias contra la Refinería de Cadereyta han aumentado en los últimos años dado el impacto que cada vez es más notorio en el aire de la zona metropolitana de Nuevo León.

En el 2020, Diego Badillo en su artículo en El Economista muestra los porcentajes de emociones de dióxido de azufre según cada municipio, donde revela que el 16% de PM2.5 y el 10% de PM10 son emitidos por las instalaciones petroleras. Según su artículo, La organización ecologista Greenpeace ubico en su a estas áreas como las peores fuentes de contaminación por SO2 a nivel global en el 2018 al encontrar las imágenes de la satélite Aura de la NASA.

A pesar de que existen varios causantes que aportan a la contaminación y el gran problema del aire en Nuevo León, varios estudios han concluido que el 80% de las emisiones del dióxido de azufre provienen de las instalaciones petroleras en Cadereyta. ProAire NL respaldo las conclusiones de Greenpeace mencionando nuevamente las altas concentraciones de partículas contaminantes y sus altas concentraciones de ozono.

En el 2023 se volvió a sacar el tema y los estudios nuevamente apuntaron a las partículas de PM2.5 como principales causantes de la mala calidad del aire. El Centro Mario Molina lanzo un comunicado donde se encontró que Monterrey estaba dentro de las peores zonas del país al tener una alta concentración de dichas partículas, resaltando que el aire empeoraba cuando la refinería de Cadereyta estaba en operación.

De igual forma, la Semarnat público únicamente la refinería de Cadereyta produce 5 veces más contaminantes que las 8 plantas de la industria privada en la ciudad, estos datos actualizados mencionaban que sus emisiones consistían de un total del 46% de dióxido de azufre, 20% de PM10 y 18% de PM2.5.

A pesar de las quejas en aumento, la refinería no ha pausado su producción, un estudio que se llevó a cabo por ABC Noticias público que el Sistema de Información Energética noto que entre el 2018 hasta el 2022 la planta dio un promedio de 112 mil 655 barriles diarios de petrolíferos entre gasolina, diesel y gas, cuando su capacidad es de 275 mil barriles por día. La Secretaria del Medio Ambiente lanzo un comunicado en el 2022 donde dio una advertencia a la refinería dado el aumento en sus fumarolas y dióxido de carbono.

Innumerables estudios y análisis se han hecho cada año, pero aun así no se han dado pruebas ni señales de que la refinería de Cadereyta disminuye o incluya algún programa que cumpla con la reducción de estas partículas que más de una vez han sido comprobadas y acusadas de daños a la salud de los ciudadanos.

Este año más civiles se han manifestado para crear presión y demandar algún tipo de acción en contra de esta empresa, el Sistema Integral de Monitoreo Ambiental (SIMA) registro que solo a inicios del 2024, 14 de 15 estaciones se han detectado con una calidad de muy mala a extremadamente mala.

Hello,

We’re just about to go onstage in Sacramento, and I am pretty certain I have lost my last inhaler.

Does anybody in San Francisco have a Ventolin/Aerolin/Ventrolin/Asthalin/Proventil/ProAir asthma inhaler I can have/swap for merch/money/whatevs? Or otherwise, know how I can get hold of one without a prescription?

If anyone can help I’d be really grateful. I’m spending a weekend in the Californian desert, and can almost guarantee I’m gonna go all asthma attacky. And probably die or something.
