Fished Dave’s Trophy match at Stathe Drain yesterday. The last time I fished it was in 2018. Drew one away from where I finished second that day with two tench and some big perch on worm so decided on a similar approach. Had a few decent roach down the middle before going across, hooked a decent fish first chuck which came off, then had a nice skimmer, for the next couple of hours I struggled just missing the odd bite. With 15 mins to go, the float buried and I landed a lovely tench. Weighed 7lb 7oz which was third, Dan Baldwin won comfortably with 16lb 14oz of quality roach. We were back at Avalon Fisheries on Sunday for a Stoke AA match and I got off to a great start with a 10lb ghostie and a 3lb bream but limped home with 21lb 9oz for nowhere. Last Sunday was the final V.E.S. Precision match and it’s fished hard, I’ve caught 100 fish (99 roach and a perch) on mainly red maggot over Bait-Tech Pro Nat Dark and Bream for 5lb 1oz and 1st place on the day and also the league title. We were back at Dillington today for round four of the Ilminster Warehouse League and it was a case of the late, late show for me! I had a decent skimmer on the feeder halfway through the match and a chub on the pole but just couldn’t get bites from anything other than the odd small roach but then I’ve had two skimmers in the last five minutes to get out of jail. My 7lb 10oz was enough for second place behind Scotty Russell who had 13lb 8oz. For the return Ilminster v Stoke fixture we were at Dillington today and it’s fished really well, I managed 10lb 10oz of mainly skimmers on the feeder for third place. Dave Pope had the top weight with 15lb 7oz of skimmers. Stoke got their revenge beating us 38lb 10oz to our 26lb 12oz.
