One of my maybe unpopular opinions: I think golfing involves an unethical use of land and I don’t like people who golf.

“I’m always happy when I’m surrounded by water. The ocean makes me feel really small, and it puts my whole life into perspective. It reminds me; ‘Ok I’m this very little piece of this huge earth,’ and.. it humbles you, and it grounds you, and it make me feel almost like I’ve been baptized and that I’m born again when I get out of the ocean.” — Beyoncé ੈ☆

!!!!!!THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!!
The massive oil extraction project named “Willow” in Alaska has to be stopped. If they go through with the plans, it will cause irreversibke damage to our planet. It will cause death of ecosystems, an even more rapid pace of climate change/global warming, and massive amounts of pollution.
Please sign the petition linked, and don’t forget to confirm your signature.
Update: willow project had already been approved, as a commenter kindly brought it to my atention

What age were you when you found out about climate change?
I was around seven, and I was terrified of the world that was coming my way.
It felt like a necklace of hands were slowly tightening around my neck and it still does.
But right now the hands have tightened so much I can barely breathe.
And the reason for that is The Willow Project.
The Willow Project is an oil drilling initiative in Alaska run by ConocoPhillips which will cause roughly 280 million metric tons of carbon dioxide.
This will have a detrimental impact on climate change but there’s still a chance to stop it.
By sending letters to the Biden Administration and signing petitions we might be able to to discard The Willow Project, but we need to act fast because we don’t have that much time left.
Please spread the message as much and as rapidly as you can.

This is *somewhat* similar to the bracelet I posted about yesterday, except it's completely different. The Fahlo bracelet didn't come with any shark tracking information (because they messed up and sent me a dolphin instead, which is fine but a shark would have been better). Anyways, this bracelet I bought for myself!! It was bought in 2021 at a time when I was looking for something that I could preserve some of my mother's ashes inside of. I had no idea this was what I wanted until it popped up in my feed on Instagram one day, and I knew then that it was the perfect way ❤️.
-- It's call a Legend Bracelet! As you can see by the bracelet, and as you'll see described in the second photo, "One capsule is empty - fill it with sand / earth or something meaningful. The other capsule - comes filled with sand / earth from an area in the world we are helping to protect. A reminder to stay connected to the endangered places and species around the world."
In the case of my bracelet, a piece of ghost netting fills the other side. Ghost nets are responsible for countless shark fatalities. They get tangled in the nets and drown, because they are unable to move. Majority of sharks need to be constantly moving to keep water flowing over their gills.
"Crafted from eco & vegan friendly materials. Made from the bark of cork trees."
What you DON'T see described is this,
"The process helps extend the tree’s life expectancy and increases it's CO2 absorption."
AND
"Up to 50% of profits donated to charities fighting to protecting the environment & endangered species."
My specific bracelet helps to protect the sharks!🦈 Obviously, sharks are animals I'm pretty passionate about. Follow Your Legend has partnered with the Bimini Shark Lab to "help save sharks and protect our oceans"
The COOLEST part about my bracelet is that it came along with not only a sticker, BUT ALSO information about a Tiger Shark named Dani! (Ironically Tiger Sharks are my absolute favorite species of shark. So bonus points!) Through the card provided, (and the QR code on the back) I am able to access both information about Dani herself and tracking information about her whereabouts!🦈
*Unfortunately, with this being bought in 2021, her tracker has either fallen off or something terrible has happened 😔 because there have been no current further updates on her.*
Regardless though, as sad as that may be, I'm still super happy to have bought and contributed to the efforts of Legend Bracelet! There are numerous other bracelets that support different causes/animals and I'd encourage everyone to look into them!!🙌😁

Some Bad News
Off the Gulf of Mexico, 1.6 million acres were auctioned off to fossil fuel companies. Although this is just a small fraction of the 73.3 million acres available for bidding, it is still a huge concern.
Tumblr media
As Chappell and Brady of NPR write, "It's the second time this month that the Biden administration has opened federal territory for new oil drilling, after it approved the large and controversial Willow project in Alaska on March 13."
The article also includes an interview with Woody Martin who discusses the contradiction of such developments with our target climate goals:
'The sanctioning of huge fossil fuel extraction commits the U.S. to long-term fossil fuel dependency and continues a current path of rising carbon emissions that according to available science will lead to disastrous consequences and enormous costs for the U.S. and global economies.'
The news of this auction certainly feels even more disheartening after the approval of the Willow Project.

The world needs love now! Because climate change is killing our world. If you love the world and care for our beautiful planet. Act by recycling and eating healthy. Vote for a greener future at the polls. Do all you can to save our children's lives and our home. There is no planet b atleast not for the poor people unfortunately. Capitalism will thrive like it always does and the billionaires and millionaires will probably leave us for dead. That's why major oil companies don't care about climate change. Republicans don't do anything and democrats don't do enough. It's honestly up to the people. Be vegan or vegetarian. Honestly it's not bad I'm a vegetarian and I love eating vegetarian and might go vegan one day if I move to the city where vegetarian and vegans have multiple choices of restaurants to go to. I love Jacksonville FL! Vegan restaurants almost everywhere. 😋 also a very alive punk scene. I love punk music! Anyway let's heal the earth and do whatever we can to save the planet.

A Must Read for Earth Day + Free Bookmarks!
If you are concerned about the planet, if you garden, if you work in or own a big business, if you like science memoirs, you must read Braiding Sweetgrass. I adored this book. Granted, I am a double major in English and Biology, so science texts with reflections on humanity and our place in the universe are *chef’s kiss* perfection for my soul. This is a collection of essays that weave…

An Earth Day Poem
Okay, so it doesn’t rhyme, but you get the point, eh? Everything we use ends up in the water So if we want to keep our heads above water Before we are all in hot water and we don’t want to end up like fish out of water Then it’s time to test the waters and Protect our watering holes because water contamination is not water under the bridge, and water conservation and preservation are…
