Pleasure and protest at Sydney's Red Rattler Theatre
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/pleasure-and-protest-at-sydneys-red-rattler-theatre/
Pleasure and protest at Sydney's Red Rattler Theatre
Tumblr media
Sydney’s community-led Red Rattler Theatre is gearing up for a big season of partying, pleasure and protest during Mardi Gras season.
For more than a decade, the Red Rattler in Marrickville has been a unique and vibrant hub of creativity in Sydney’s Inner West.
The Rat is not-for-profit and volunteer-run, and the warehouse venue offers more than just a stage. It’s a permanent home and queer-run creative playground for artists, activists and punters alike.
In 2009, the Red Rattler was started by a group of five local queer artists. They dreamed of a legal warehouse venue to showcase alternative Sydney arts and activism.
They’d previously hosted events at temporary inner-city and innerwest warehouse spaces, but always dreamed of something more permanent. The Red Rattler, named after the old trains of the same name in Sydney, was born.
What’s on at The Rat during Mardi Gras
On February 8, Queers of Joy are hosting a performance night for trans, gender diverse, queer people and all who love us.
On February 24, Club Sandwich: Pleasure and Protest (above) will be a night of electrifying performance, visual art, and pulsating beats.
Club Sandwich has run since 2019, organised by DJ Charlie Villas and HipHopHoe and hosted by Betty Grumble.
The Pleasure and Protest party on February 23 will pay homage to the origins of Mardi Gras as well as celebrate the sex, art, culture, ingenuity and resilience of the QTIPOC community.
“Club Sandwich is an invitation to bring your whole self – the pleasure-seeker, the perv, the voyeur, the sensualist, the deviant, the weirdo, the sleaze,” DJ HipHopHoe said.
“You may be aroused by a striptease, you may be delighted by a lapdance, you might be bewitched by someone working a pole, you may be enchanted by some hedonic poetry.”
On March 1, all bodies are welcome at Leak Your Own Nudes, an unofficial Mardi Gras undie dance party.
L.Y.O.N. puts on the queer parties regularly at the Red Rattler, and allows everyone to hang out in their undies while having a drink and a dance at the Rat.
Book your own events at Sydney’s Red Rattler Theatre
The Red Rattler Theatre is also available for bookings year-round for a wide range of events.
The venue offers a stage, full PA, LED lighting rig, projector and screen, as well as a fully licensed bar and rooftop garden.
“We’ve always wanted the space to be accessible and affordable for artists,” Red Rattler program manager Kween G said.
“People can book their shows here and present their work and their art, without any discrimination or judgement.”
Whether you’re an established artist or just starting out, the Red Rattler welcomes you with open arms to share your art with the world.
Visit redrattler.org to find out more about events and bookings.

Stickers & Credits
Hi! You may have seen the following graphic going around. It is a graphic I made in November, 2020. This graphic has gone viral several times. I wanted to introduce myself as the person who created it.
Tumblr media
[an image of pink rose bush against green leaves, a tree, and a blue sky with the letters "immunocompromised people are worth protecting"]
I am a queer Chinese settler living on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh peoples. You can learn more about my work as a writer and poet at my website.
I am an unacceptable autist. :’)
Selling this graphic as a sticker has raised over $1600 for families who are impacted by the fires and floods of last year here in “British Columbia,” where I live. Both the fires and floods of last year are a consequence of climate catastrophe, which COVID is also a product of. Please continue to send funds to these families, as they continue to be displaced and under-supported while gearing up for another deadly heat dome this year.
In response to the ongoing racialized ableist violence of the pandemic, I wanted to uplift and thank the Black, Indigenous, and racialized queer disabled folks in my life and communities who have offered me such care and grace, and motivated me to do the work I do.
Please go and support:
1. Sins Invalid
2. Vancouver Black Therapy and Advocacy Foundation
3. Indian Residential School Survivor
4. Disability Filibuster
5. Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice 世代同行會
6. Healing in Colour
*****
You can pre-order stickers for the fall. 100% of the profits go towards families impacted by the fires and floods.
You can print out this graphic and others for free.
You can support me directly through my Patreon. You can also tip me through PayPal.

Aged ten, believe it or not, I genuinely didn’t know being gay was a real thing. And when later in school as a teenager I learned it was, “gay” was used as an insult or joke – my classmates were not averse to laughingly or even fondly saying, “oh, you’re so gay” or girls in my class being “married” to each other on Facebook because it was just one of those silly trends. In short, gayness wasn’t seen as something serious but rather the butt of schoolgirl humour. The school I attended was all-girls and therefore infamous for its so-called lesbian reputation, which my friends could easily laugh off.
From an outsider: The reality of being lesbian and Muslim

Posted @withregram • @fwdtogether We give you the permission to choose how you wish to show up in the world. And we understand that that may shift with each and every day or even every hour. It is your right to imagine the fullest possibilities of your gender without constraints. And we’re here to help facilitate that. FEATURED ART: New Orleans–based artist _creatureoftheworld worked with @breakout t to spotlight the importance of trans-supported community in this piece titled "Trans AF, Queer AF, & Here AF". This is what @ had to say about their art: "We are our biggest supporters. Our connections to each other can begin before the March and be maintained far after. As Queer and Transgender People, it is truly our duty to find it in our hearts to aid in our overall resilience. There are so many ways to love one another in between visits to the frontlines." Download the art and share it in your community. https://tdor.co/art/trans-af-queer-af-here-af/ #TDOR2021 Image Description: Illustration with banners of text saying: “Trans AF, Queer AF & Here AF” and “somos trans. somos cuir. estamos aquí.” Two Black trans and non-binary people sit on the front steps. One of them has long purple braids and is wearing a shirt with the names “Ciara, Diamond, Chyna & Penny”, and a tattoo on her arm says “Blooming”. Her friend is braiding her hair. In the foreground is a Black transmasculine person with a tattoo saying “Breathe”. In the background is a yellow house with a large crystal geode, a banana tree and a pot of roses. #transisbeautiful #transdayofresilience #art #artasactivism #culturechange #qtipoc #genderdynamic #gender-non-conforming #Queer #lgbtia https://www.instagram.com/p/CWhSAE5MtuJ/?utm_medium=tumblr

On November the 7th 2019 I was invited and allowed to help in an exhibition called The Secret World of Fangirlsrun by @g.123.tp - Instagram
#secretworldoffangirls
And also the secret world of anime fangirls as seen on the banner
(a mistake I believe made by me😅)
It lasted three days and was free, it allowed fans of manga, maid cafes, cosplay, anime and other fangirl fandoms to come and experience a place where you could fangirl out without being judged no matter on sexuality/gender/race/religion something we made sure of. It was for everyone and all ages wither new or old to the community we had a dress up stall which was a lot of fun and allowed some people to feel comfortable in themselves and have fun, we had wishes you could grant to sailor moon, a manga reading section, a Polaroid photo section where you could have cute photos done like a photo booth, we had submissions on the wall of what fangirl and the mediums meant to everyone with all the way from art to history to building a group for Poc fans, we had figurines and cosplay outfits and we had a banner which had some known characters and some obscure LGBT+ ones and some depicted in a cosplay fashion to allow representation of Poc in a medium where we sometimes don’t feel welcomed. All and all it was a great weekend of making friends, feeling connected and fangirling out and if we have the chance @g.123.tp - Instagram ) has expressed about doing it again as well as the rest of us.
Leave a comment below of what fangirl is to you image or writing

Your so called favs going to the met gala. While they have pigs guns and barbed wire. While cops are arresting protesters against genocide of Palestinians and climate change right outside. If they were about it they would have marched. Not went into an event parading stolen items looted from indigenous people and people of color. Idgaf if your favs a poc native or Black and still going inside. I’m talking about them too They of all people should know better than to partake in a capitalist and colonial event. The met gala an event where people parade their capitalistic wealth on stolen land where they parade items colonizers looted from bipoc at the same time Palestinians are being exterminated by Zionist colonizers should be more news but alas. That met gala is full of loot stolen from Black and Indigenous people of color. We shouldn’t be there. Unless it’s to burn it down and return the shit they stole to their rightful owners. The rich are parading their obscene wealth and items looted by settler colonizers from natives and people of color. They are arresting climate activists and Palestinian protests outside their gilded doors. So that met gala is filled with stolen items looted by settler colonizers from bipoc. We ever questioning every so called ally or marginalized person attending that capitalistic wet dream shit show on stolen land yet? For y’all bootlicking the met gala goers. You know how much their clothes cost and the price of tickets to go cost right. Why are you brownosing people parading their wealth so hard like it’s your fucking job? Any bipoc or qtipoc being at the met gala. An event full of items looted from indigenous people and people of color. Where rich capitalist assholes parade their wealth and capital on stolen indigenous land sure is something. It’s like buying tickets to the British museum. If they enter those doors and walk past that carpet. They ain’t one of us. They’re class traitors.
