there's too much animosity towards queer people who want to practice their faith/spirituality, both within their respective religions and within the LGBTQIA+ community.
we need to protect and lift up our queer siblings of faith.
our queer Christians.
our queer Jews.
our queer Muslims.
our queer Hindus.
our queer Buddhists.
our queer Sikhs.
our queer Baháʼís.
our queer Wiccans/Pagans.
our queer Shintos.
our queer siblings of indigenous/folk faiths.
our queer SBNR siblings.
our queer siblings of whatever religion/spiritual systems they observe.
you're all beautiful and valid and loved and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. 💖

Sorry, but I'd rather accidentally love too many people than too few. I'd rather accidentally welcome people I'm not supposed to than exclude people I'm supposed to welcome. I think God looks much more kindly on one of those than the other.

The Trans Halakha Project seeks to curate existing and developing resources that have been created for trans Jews, by trans Jews and engage trans & non-binary people in the creation of specific rituals and blessings. This work is expressed below in Tefillat Trans: Blessings and Rituals for Trans Lives.

God blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason God made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine, so that humanity might share in the act of creation.

No matter what they say, no matter what they do, they cannot erase the truth: God calls us good.
Tumblr media
From the time of Joseph of the princess dress and power over dreams, God has watched over us and moved through us. Famine comes to the nations that fail to see how our transness is a holy gift. Good fruit flourishes in the communities that welcome our wisdom.

Let us give thanks to the God who upturns the status quo — who loves the world’s despised; who blesses the ones the world calls cursed; who draws the outcast close.
(Edit: a couple people have messaged to ask, so I’ll add here that yes, I do make these kinds of patches to sell — check out NeuroqueerCrafting on Etsy! Also, if you wanna learn more about trans readings of Joseph, click here.)

(I follow from @spocks-got-a-glock)
So I made a sideblog for Christianity stuff.
My religious journey is relatively new and I need a space to talk about it, share my thoughts and potentially reach out to others. I don't think my followers on my main blog are a demographic that would be particularly interested though, so it all goes here from now on. There'll probably be a fair bit of content here about my experience as a trans + gay Christian but I will talk about more general things as well.
Please DNI if:
- you're homophobic/transphobic or align with anything other than Side A of the homosexuality + Christianity debate (I accept side B as a personal choice for LGBT people, though I don't agree with the reasoning, just don't tell others how to live their lives)
- you want to have a debate about my faith or about the existence of God; I'm out of steam
- you're antisemitic or islamophobic, or attack other religions unnecessarily. Treat others as you would like to be treated.
Please DO interact if:
- you're a trans/gay/queer Christian, or an LGBT affirming/progressive Christian
- you want to have deep meaningful conversations about theology (while staring into each other's eyes with homoerotic subtext)
- you want to share your favourite Christian music/books/art/films/TV shows. Tell me more!
- you're just curious or want to chat. I'm friendly :)

Embracing my queerness made me a better Christian, and I mean that in a very literal, concrete sense. I read my Bible more often and get more from it, I live out the gospel better. Embracing my queerness was the thing that truly taught me to love without bounds and it has irreversibly shaped my life and faith for the better. I want non-affirming Christians to gnaw on that for a while.

Being religious and queer in the west is feeling more comfortable in religious spaces than you do in queer spaces, due to the culture of extremely hostile antitheism in the queer community, forcing you to abandon a major part of who you are to be welcome, meanwhile there is a growing culture of open and joyful acceptance of queerness within increasingly diverse religious spaces, allowing you to be your authentic self

In the latest episode of Blessed Are the Binary Breakers, I share a sermon on Isaiah 56:3-8. This bit of scripture proclaims God's message of not only tolerance but radical welcome for the ultimate Others of the biblical world: eunuchs.
How did Isaiah 56's author come to understand divine affirmation for this denigrated group, when Deuteronomy 23's author had offered only rejection? And why does this scripture resonate deeply with many transgender persons of faith today?
Listen wherever you get podcasts, or click here for a direct link + episode transcript.
And look under the readmore for my direct translation of Isaiah 56 from the Hebrew, along with image descriptions and resource links.
ID for the above two images:
On a trans flag background, text titled "Isaiah 56:3-8 reworked for a trans context" reads:
Do not cause the child who’s grown up in your church to believe, “I don’t belong here anymore.” And do not let the trans person who has tried again and againto find welcome lament, “See, no one cares about me.” For thus says LIVING GODto these beloved children made in Their own divine, boundless image: I give to you, in my own home and within my own heart, a place of honor, better than any church that fails you. Your chosen name is cherished, and I’ll make sure you’re not forsaken or forgotten.
The passage continues on the next image, reading:
For everyone who comes to me for solace, everyone who seeks my liberation, everyone who joins me in making justice roll like water will be brought to my holy mountain. Joy will be theirs, and a welcome that far surpasses tolerance — their wisdom, their gifts, their leadership will be accepted with gratitude; for my kin-dom is for all peoples — the outcasts most of all. If you don’t see them among you, it is you who must move — come, seek them and find me, the God who gathers more, and still more people to my table, till all have their honored place. / end ID

ID: Text on a sunset sky background is titled "Isaiah 56:3-8, My translation from the Hebrew" and reads:
Do not let the foreigner who grafts themself to LIVING GOD say, “LIVING GOD will sever, will utterly exclude me from His people.” And do not let the eunuch say, “See, I am a dried-out tree.” For thus says LIVING GOD to the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose what delights me, and hold fast to my covenant: I will give to them, in my house and within my walls, a monument and a name better than sons and daughters. A name everlasting will I give to them, that shall not be cut off.
The translation continues on the next image, reading:
And the foreigners who graft themselves to LIVING GOD, ministering to Them and loving the name of LIVING GOD, becoming Her servants – every one who keeps Sabbath undefiled, and holds fast to my covenant —
[These] I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer. Their offerings and their sacrifices will be welcome on my altar, for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples.
A declaration of the Lord, LIVING GOD, who is gathering the outcasts of Israel: “I will gather still more to them, beyond those already gathered.”

I also write about biblical eunuchs in the "Better than Sons or Daughters" section of this webpage — with more quotes and links from Austen Hartke, Peterson Toscano, and others.
