During World War II, the Zemgales bridge was blown up in battle on June 29, 1941, and again in October 1944. It was never rebuilt..

My favourite bridge! With a delay of 90mins we crossed this steampunky train bridge at Rendsburg. When I first encountered it, I just woke from a nap in an exhausted daze and it took me ages to figure out that this seemingly floating bridge is indeed real and I am not still stuck in some kind of weird fever dream.

Even without that, the bridge is kinda interesting because you have to go up this huge loop and then there is also this fucked up ferry hanging below it to cross the canal connecting north sea and baltic sea. It was built from 1911 to 1913 and was the longest railway bridge in Germany for 99 years. The ferry is one out of only 8 ferries of the same kind that are in operation in the world.

I never managed to take a picture before, so I take what I can get, even if it is just a grainy phone picture.

The only issue now is that I am stuck in this limbo of hope that I will get my connection in Hamburg and certainty that I will have to wait there for another hour or two.
