I keep getting told off for climbing things and it’s really frustrating to me. I like to climb, I feel safer in a higher up spot, and it brings me a lot of joy. It’s not something I often get to do, though.

And I know it’s not standard to scale anything you see. I know it’s going to draw attention. Which sucks, because I just want to do my own thing and get a cool view. But people take notice. They gawk. Part of it is genuine concern for my safety, which is fair enough. I’m careful, and I don’t think theres that much to worry about, but of course people might not know this immediately.

Still though, it’s not like I’m hurting anyone. And I suspect it’s more about the social deviation than potential physical risks anyway. Because people react extremely similarly to other behavior that has 0 physical risk. People are uncomfortable seeing someone behave in a way they aren’t used to, and naturally default to trying to coax me down. This past week I had climbed up to the windowsill outside of our school when our class went outside, and my teacher, who had yelled at me to get down and rushed over to the scene, said something that made me think- he said “I’m not worried about your physical safety, but you can’t be in the windows. If people see you through the windows they’re going to think you’re a threat- they’re going to lock down the school thinking there’s a shooter”

(Now I really doubt they would think I’m a shooter for?? Climbing?? But let’s take his words at face value here) And that made me think- what about a teenager climbing onto the windowsill is threatening any way? What real reason would you have to associate that with violence except for abnormality?

Because of course anything abnormal is feared. Even if there’s no rational reason for it. And that pisses me off so badly- because why do I have to stop doing something that harms absolutely no one and makes me happy? There is nothing I respect less than rules simply for the sake of rules.

Kind of wondering if im alone in feeling like the april fools update for minecraft has shown how poorly structured their development is. I cant help but feel like this april fools update was a huge waste of time and energy, dont get me wrong the grapple hook is amazing theres pockets of good in it, but why a new potato biome? Why all these new skins and textures? Thats a lot of work for a throwaway update that the rest of the game does NOT receive! I do get that devs use the april fools update as a beta for new features but minecraft already has snapshots? It feels like to me mojang releases sparse and subpar updates throughout the year and focuses their devs on silly projects whose impact just doest last in the game...

the story of kfc fucks me up man. the colonel founded this gas station that expanded to restaurant, the chicken at the restaurant gets popular, makes KFC, it gets big and he sells it to a corporation for a lot of money. realizes he got sorta scammed out of the true worth of kfc so tries to get more money and they refuse and the courts side against him. then he starts a new chicken restaurant claiming the corporate people were not making chicken to his standards and kfc sued him because kfc owned the colonel's likeness and the courts agreed. a corporation owned this man's name and appearance. he wasnt allowed to use either, thus legally erasing his reputation making it harder for him to get taken seriously in any food venture. the man, to the day he died, was going into kfc's and throwing fits because the food had fallen into such bad shape he hated it was associated with him. and it's like, whether he's a bad man or a good man or whatever, a corporation owned his identity, stopped him from using his reputation and identity in other businesses, and refused to acknowledge his outrage that they changed his recipes and still attributed it to him. this is literally the obnoxious plot of a jay and silent bob movie, but it was this dude's real life. what the fuck.

1. Performed a wicked surgery on where her actual heart was literally ripped off her chest

2. Was so badly burned at some point that her entire right arm, chest and torso’s skin has MELTED and scarred horrifically

idk who the hell decided that masks are no longer mandatory in health services (hospitals, drugstores etc). like i went to this public health service yesterday, and although there were free masks for the public to use, the staff WASN'T wearing masks. and the place was filled with ppl, many of them likely sick.

that is insane. only 1/4 of the whole room wore masks. and none of them were from the staff. i am not exaggerating.

You know what I hate about modern mice? how pointlessly anti-repair they are. I have had plenty of mice break over time, and often it's just that some fluff or skin-flakes got wedged in the mouse wheel or under the buttons. You just need to open them up and clean them. Except.. where are the screws?

OH THERE THEY ARE. under the little skid-pads, which cannot be put back on once you take them off, because the adhesive has been ruined! You have to buy replacement pads, if they're available, and maybe cut them down to size, as well as clean off the residue of the previous pads.

You know how this problem could be fixed? JUST DON'T PUT THE PADS ON TOP OF THE SCREWS!

Then you'd have no problem. Easy to disassemble and clean.

But then it'd look 5% uglier because apparently people are scared of seeing screws, and also people might not just throw it out and buy a new one!

It's the terrible sort of weird planned obsolescence that happens as an almost accidental side effect of improving the product. Like, ball mice? They were designed to be disassembled. You didn't even need a screwdriver! Because you had to clean them regularly, or they'd gunk up too fast. Modern optical mice? They still get gunked up, the buttons and wheel still die eventually. They can be cleaned and repaired. But now that it's not required for all of them to be cleaned regularly, that function has been removed. they're designed to be disposable.

The same thing happened with TVs way back when. If you open up a TV from the 50s (or just look at the back, honestly, many of them were designed to be always-open), you'll find a schematic showing where all the tubes are and what models they are. Was this because the 1950s was a golden era of reparability? NO! it's because they burnt out all the time and you had to replace them! As soon as TVs got reliable enough that replacing tubes was no longer needed, the schematics became hidden behind paywalls and for authorized-service-personnel-only.

It would be only a minor change in aesthetics to make your mouse repairable/cleanable. Hell, most of the time when it's not simply fixed by cleaning it, it's because one of these broke:

This is an Omron D2FC-F-7N microswitch, used in a bunch of mice. It's designed to last about a million clicks. With a soldering iron and some solder (like 25$ on amazon) you can trivially replace it. New switches cost between like 10 cents and 2 dollars, depending where you buy it and how many you want. A couple bucks of parts and half an hour's worth of work, you can repair a 40$ mouse that's "died".

But they make it unnecessarily hard with the slide-pads being unreplacable. You have to find ones that match, you have to carefully clean off the old residue with IPA, or the new ones you just bought will fall off. All to make it look SLIGHTLY better (how often are you looking at the aesthetics of the bottom of your mouse, exactly? (no furries are allowed to answer this question!)) and maybe, just maybe, to push it over into "not worth it". You could do all that, but you have to buy new switches, new slide-pads/mouse-feet (SHUT UP FURRIES), and can you remember where your solder even is? you last used it when you were trying to fix that keyboard...

Basically one thing that is maddening to anyone with the very basics of electronic knowledge (seriously: the amount of skill you need for this is the kind you can get in less than an hour from watching a youtube tutorial) that we're surrounded by all this electrical nonsense that will break and have to be thrown out, but is mostly breaking in ways that could be fixed in a very short amount of time with relatively little work.

It's infuriating to go on amazon to buy another damn mouse and it pop up "hey you last bought this in 2021, you fool" and you're like I KNOW, IT SHOULD STILL BE WORKING TODAY!

I have computer parts from the 80s in my room right now that are still working when stuff made in the last 5 years is already dying! There's no reason it should be this way. It's an endless waste of time and money and resources and it's just to make some logitech or whoever executives slightly richer.

It's deeply bullshit. The modern day is going to be identifiable as the geological layer where most of the trash was generated. We're living in the middle of the quisquiliarumferous period: the layer of garbage.

As someone who is on the AroAce spectrum myself, it’s beyond frustrating that people claim to advocate for AroAce rights and representation don’t understand this.

The Aromatic spectrum can mean someone isn’t interested in romance at all to someone(like me) who only wants a romantic relationship after developing a deep connection.

The Asexual spectrum can mean someone is repulsed by sex and sexual things, to someone who is okay with having sex and doing sexual things while having no sexual desires themselves.

I understand that some people are just misinformed but I’ve seen some genuine animosity floating around in the Hazbin Hotel fandom specifically.

Alastor is canonically AroAce, but we don’t know what points are of the spectrums he’s on. On top of that Vivzipop herself has stated she’s okay with people shipping Alastor with other characters

In addition to that, QPR(queer platonic relationships) exist.

It isn't shameful to be a trans woman and dudes aren't going to explode being compared to them. Egg jokes are not a big deal and a trans woman saying some shit like "hey, I used to do that before I realized I was trans" is not a big deal, infact most trans women wish someone had helped them realize sooner. If it turns out the person is just a cis dude, big deal! Being upset that your actions can be seen as a thing trans women do is suspect as hell! Being a trans woman is not a bad thing to be!
