1. book you’ve reread the most times?

embarrassing but probably the fault in our stars. ive probably read it like 12 times.

12. did you enjoy any compulsory high school readings?

this is very ireland specific but we studied this play called an triail (the trial) by mairéad ní ghráda, about a woman in 50s/60s rural ireland who becomes pregnant out of wedlock and is sent away to a mother and baby home bc of the shame of it all. we studied this around the same time as the referendum on abortion access, which was the first time i ever voted, so it really made an impact on me.

15. recommend and review a book.

you'll be the death of me by karen m mcmanus. ive been following kmm for like 4 years now? everything she puts out is amazing. ybtdom takes place over a single afternoon, following 3 now-estranged childhood best friends as they skip school for the day and end up finding the body of one of their classmates. they spend the day trying to figure out what the hell happened while also trying not to implicate themselves, as they all have their own reasons to want this guy out of the picture. the reveals and plot twists are expertly done and the characters are complicated, real people. i tore through this book in like a day and a half. literally could not put it down.

listening to florence music while scrolling thru your blog and it all just fit SO well so i have to ask...have you played florence? its a wonderfully domestic game abt longing that makes you cry. highly recommend.

i have not, but i just took a peek at the soundtrack and it seems so wonderfully soothing! i'll make sure to check out the game (:

“Fives-”

“Mhm,” he mumbled, lips against her throat. 

“Fives,” and when she laughed he felt her warm breath on his hair and he held her tighter to his chest. He heard the breath catch in her throat, even as she tried to go on, “Fives, are you listening? We’re on a… on a mission…” and her words trailed off as his hands started to wander.

It was a small, dark and private, out-of-the-way hotel room, with a perfect view of their target. The official reasoning for the mattress on the floor was to reduce the likelihood of being spotted. The official reasoning didn’t matter much, in his opinion. Usually he hated stakeouts. 

Usually, he wasn’t allowed to do them with Rabé. 

The Captain had threatened to flay him alive if he didn’t at least make an effort to pretend to focus, so he decided to make the effort now. Rex knew that Fives and Rabé would, despite their proneness to... distraction, would get the job done and get it done well. They both took pride in their work. He rolled over, picked up the macrobinoculars, and peered through the scope at the base, scanning it quickly and as efficiently as he could - even with the taste of her still lingering on his tongue. “Schedule, activate and register.” A tiny droid by his head beeped once, and he went on: “Time is oh-two-twenty-eight hundred hours. No sign of movement, no transports, no one coming or going. All clear, all still, all silent.” 

The tiny machine beeped twice as a confirmation of a successful recording, and he put the macrobinoculars back down, rolled over, and couldn’t help a wide grin from spreading across his face when he saw Rabé lying next to him, hand to her heart, eyes closed, and very obviously still trying to catch her breath. He propped himself up on his elbow and just watched her, grinning.

“You’re a fiend,” she muttered, eyes still closed and a loose smile on her lips.

“I just missed you, is all,” he answered honestly. “Gotta make up for lost time, and now seems like a pretty convenient time to do it.”

She managed to crack open one eye. “While on the clock?”

His smile only widened. “I’m great at multitasking.”

The only light in the room came from the streets outside for maximum visibility on the target. Transport lights and the neon glow of the shop signs, dingy with age, melted into their room like liquid, nestled in the curves of her body like they knew that’s where they belonged. The look in her eyes nearly stopped his heart in his chest.

Fives slid his arms under her body and flipped their positions, so that she was closest to the window. He curled himself around her body, pressing close, his nose in her thick hair, legs tangled together. He bent to kiss her neck again and asked, “Better?” 

“I still think you’re a fiend,” she answered, relaxing in his arms turning her head just so in order to brush her lips against his. “But you’re a damned clever one at that.”

His throaty laughter dissipated against her skin, the neon turning their rundown room into a dreamland.

Turns out, they were both very good at multitasking.

@raspberryspacecloud submitted: Here's a cool bug I found around [removed] (please remove location) it looks to be some sort of bee, and at first I thought it might be a bumblebee, but I haven't been able to find a bee species with the same face pattern. The legs are more spindly as well. Apologies for the somewhat blurry quality--this little guy was tricky to get in focus!

Ohohoho their mimicry is working! This is a fly mimicking a bee. I’d need more photos to say for sure but I’m fairly certain it’s a bumble fly, which is actually a type of hover fly in the family Syrphidae :)

crimson: if you could have only one photo or poster on your wall, what would it be?

I actually decorate my room however I want tbh, every thing I wanted to put on my corkboard or on my walls I have put it on them, I've even painted on it once! directly on it! So yeah I don't really know what it would be 🤔 maybe a well printed copy of a painting of an artist I like? Maybe a copy of one of Ciruelo's dragons... maybe a copy of one of Monet's paintings? I need to check paintings I like and see which one I could put on my walls...

claret: talk about a memorable experience on public transport.

Okay this one is a pretty recent one! I was going back home after class and there was this guy sitting a couple of seats apart from me holding a handdrawn map of the bus's path. He was clearly not used to taking that bus line. I was keeping an eye on him, because I pretty much go down the last stop so I could offer some help should he need it. Turns out the bus takes another route for reasons and I saw him starting to panic, so I took off my headphones and asked him where he was going and then we got down the bus and I guided him towards the place. The weather was pretty nice so we walked and chatted until we reached the place and then I continued towards my house (very close to the place he was going)

mahogany: what is your favourite musical instrument, in terms of sound?

Uh, good question! I honestly like how most instruments sound? I wouldn't know which one to pic tbh... I guess I always loved how the acoustic guitar sounded but I also like how the charango sounds or how the flute does... really I just love music :)

I really love a lot of wild animals but if I had to pick one right now, I would say the Argentinean right whale (I think it's the Southern variety)

rat - favourite children’s tale?

uh, what a good question. Apparently, when I was a child, my father came up with a story about a snail that went to school and I loved it. If not that, well, I guess the stories in María Elena Walsh's children songs that are often animal themed

ferret - what’s one thing you cannot stop buying?

I don't usually buy things tbh. I don't really enjoy walking around stores and such and also I don't currently have a job so I try to keep my savings for other things until I get one. But I guess I really like Pokémon themed things (plushies or ornaments) or just plushies and ornaments in general beyond Pokémon things

Hi! blossom—would you get a tattoo? if so, what would it be of?

There are two main reasons I haven't got a tattoo 1. I have a lot of moles and it would make me sad to have some of them covered by a tattoo ;;W;; 2. The pain :) But apart from that, I have nothing against getting one! I would love to have a whale, a big Southern Right Whale! 🐋
