I love how in the Dracula Daily fandom, we don’t say that we are beginning once again on May 3rd.

Rather, we say “my dear friend Johnathan is preparing for his upcoming trip. I hope he has such a wonderful time and that he brings back some delicious recipes :)”

i remember back when dracula daily was starting again this year, there were a bunch of discussions about dracula actually being a timeloop, and discussions and polls about who in the cast is the one who remembers the loop. i don't remember who i voted for then, or whether there was a general consensus, but on this year's reread...

i think it's quincey.

(spoilers ahead)

quincey who shows up in the moment that lucy needs him most, when she needs another transfusion and arthur is gone and john and van helsing are too spent. quincey who mentions, almost offhand, a story about a vampire bat, about a horse who lost too much blood.

maybe this time it'll be different, he thinks. maybe this time his blood will be enough to save lucy, not just fend off the inevitable. maybe jack will read more into the story he tells, will realize that there's something else going on. maybe, later, when he fires his gun at that massive bat, maybe this time he won't miss. and he knows it won't kill the bastard, but maybe it'll weaken him, delay him, enough to save mina and jonathan from some of the heartbreak that's coming. maybe this time they'll all survive. maybe this time he'll get to see lucy and arthur get married. maybe this time he'll get to meet mina and jonathan's son. maybe this time.

someday, he'll do everything right. but until then, he'll keep doing what he can.

One of these days, someone is finally going to create a faithful screen adaptation of Dracula. The found family will be prioritized. Dracula will be horrifying, not just alluring. There will be nods to the queer undertones and gender role fuckery of the book. All three suitors will be present and accounted for in all their bumbling, gun-totin', well-meaning glory. Mina Harker will be just as brilliant and sweet and badass as her book counterpart. Jonathan Harker will not be shoved to the side but recognized as the determined, devoted, strong character that he is. Lucy Westernra will not be reduced to a slut who got what she deserved and her loss will be profoundly felt in the narrative. There will one day be a screen adaptation of Dracula that recognizes that this story was never about him. Dracula is the name on the cover but it was never about him. It was about the kind, cunning, and brave group of friends who, when faced with unspeakable horror, came together and defeated it.

There will one day be a screen adaptation where Quincey Morris gets to kill Dracula.

Getting into Dracula was a mistake, cause now every single adaptation I hear about or try to watch is so infuriatingly wrong and light years away from the original book that it drives me half insane

I didn't finish Dracula Daily last year so I thought Quincey was a funny character because he is a Texan cowboy in an English gothic novel randomly shooting at bats to kill a vampire but now that I am actually keeping up this year (thanks to the incredible work of @re-dracula!!!), I stand corrected. Quincey P. Morris is a hilarious character because of his ability to turn every single male character that is drenched in misery 90% of the time bisexual with the sheer power of his manly manliness and what I assume to be a mighty moustache and the bushiest chest hair possible showing under his half unbuttoned shirt.
