Red tailed hawk! They’re very common in North America. I usually see 2-3 of em monitoring their highway territories on my commute! They have very shrill, sharp cries that sound quintessentially like a raptor, so their voices are very commonly used for bird of prey sound effects in movies and TV! If you hear what’s supposed to be an eagle or falcon or whatever in a show, it’s probably a red-tailed hawk sound. :-)
[ID: an illustration of a cream and brown hawk in flight, facing left, with its wings and talons outstretched. It is on a blue sky background. End.]

This juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk was diving at ducks on the river, swooping back and forth on gusty fall breezes. He hasn’t yet grown in his iconic red tail feathers and sports a pattern of brown bars instead.
