Dealing with the remnants of someone else’s life is fucking impossible.

#my dad passed yesterday and i’m having to sort through his stuff #and it’s kind of insane because he was a hoarder who hadn’t touched my bedroom since i left fifteen years ago #literally there is still a box of rainbow goldfish on the nightstand (obviously mice have gotten to it but still)#i got a bunch of photos because i had little evidence i existed before age like thirteen #and all i really wanted from his house was a photo of me and my grandmother #his siblings are going to make it impossible for this to be easy because his brother is like nothing in this house is yours except the #photos that’s it you have no claim to anything because this is my land take your photos and leave #and his sister is the worst #lots of family drama and honestly i don’t want any part in it #and everyone has so much to say about me and the way our relationship ended fifteen years ago but that’s on him not me #but i don’t want anything i just want this to be done and to go home #i want it to be over with #i’m exhausted and hungry but i also don’t want food #i’m not grieving but maybe i am i don’t know #I just want to leave now #txt

Shoutout to my mother for taping HOW TO UNLOAD THE DISHWASHER instructions to the front of the dishwasher, it has taken many years but at long last she has gotten the general gist of my brain problems (she was married to my dad and shared a room with my aunt growing up, after all) and is being genuinely helpful in material and meaningful ways. Thenk u momther 4 my ADL assistance

Pretty all of my brain problems compounded by the worldview of a white guy born in 1951 in southern Illinois #So just kept making successive wives and then his daughters be his caretakers and was a huge entitled asshole about it and also #A violent drunk until he stopped drinking and dealt with shame about not being The Right Kind of Man etc etc etc #aunt was like if 3 anxiety disorders in a trench coat were a person and that person was a hoarder #And could not organize or keep any space clean or remember anything to save her life #Obsessed with baseball freaky good at languages never had a job #Had two degrees from Ivy League schools #The ones who died young in institutions are extreme examples but there are so many members of my family I see as #Cautionary tales because almost all of us are crazy and on the autism-OCD-schizophrenia spectrum and so many people end up #Miserable and terrified or in awful relationships or whatever because they try to have regular lives and do things like regular people #Like bestie We Can't <333 #That Way Lies Misery <333 #Only happy person among grandparents' kids is the uncle who went thru intensive therapy became a freelance software engineer #And now lives in the desert with his wife except when they visit the farm to take care of the grandkids during harvest season

the truth is i actually get so insanely jealous

#not even ab christmas gifts and stuff its likr #idk obvi its christmas ppl will post their hauls but its like damn? more than 3 items person??#every year i get a pair of pjs and something practical. not that im complaining because its shit i use but #we dont make gift lists. we arent asked and arent allowed to want stuff so idk how to ask for it. then ppl ik have 30 plus items of junk an #i donr care ab presents because im a hoarder who doesnt use my shit but they have families who know of their interests #who talk to them everyday and go out of their way to converse. i don't even know my brothers fav color. my mother doesnt know my fav food.#me and my grandma say at most 6 words a day cuz of a language barrier and my father is a baby who doesnt reach out first #i eent to a friends house 2 dsys ago snd the whole family was chatting and the house was so lively and homey #then i go home and nobody says a word to each other. idk what code everyone has that im missing but oh my god im so jealous #im jealous of their relationships their freedom their partners the amount they spend their friendships their personalities #i want to be like them. i want to be them. but im me and the most i said to mom on christmas day was merry Christmas. then get yelled at #l speaks #shut up l #ranting in the tags because i can #its like god took his time making their lives as close to perfect as possible then went to me and was like ehh #he made me odd and offputting enough to make me different then made me 'normal' enough to not raise any flags #then put me in the most virtually normal home environment that at its core is fucked #but idk. its 5 am i havent slept in 2 days merry Christmas happy new year.#posts that couldve gone in the notes app

#yeah guys this child who catches a ton of pokemon and makes sure to give them a gigantic enclosure for all of them to live in #filled with nature and wildlife they need to thrive and form relationships #and also feeds every single pokemon on a daily basis and is always making sure to check on them and rotate out his team #so that no one gets neglected or deprived of anything #is the same thing as a cat hoarder who keeps a ton of cats in a small space and doesnt feed or clean them properly #and is usually an adult who knows better and is only doing this for personal pleasure than out of care for pets wellbeing #echoed voice

PSA for people in relationships where one person understands emotions by talking them through (it me) and the other person avoids confrontation like the plague. I know that there will be times when my bf is feeling some crappy feelings but isn't quite ready to bring them up.

Enter support without interaction!

The idea was sparked by some teeny envelopes I had laying around, crafty hoarder that I am. I picked a theme for each one (e.g. "this one is for when you're feeling depleted") and wrote little corresponding notes. The content is entirely up to you - for any notes/cards that are more than a formality, I tend to be earnest about the things I appreciate about that relationship, and I'm kind of proud of how consistently that makes people tear up a little.

I'm thinking of having a dedicated container that I can just add to from time to time, so when the need arises, there will always be a little something for my love to lean on. As a side note, it's still important to speak openly about feelings on a regular basis, but accommodating moments of withdrawal without judgement can divert a doom spiral or two.

I am absolutely beside myself with excitement to announce the launch of Unprintable.

Unprintable is an online free shop, where original artwork and arts resources are released into the public domain.

Everything listed here is free to use, copy and remix any way you like. You can print off hi-res artwork to decorate your apartment, or to use in your own projects. You can use the writing in your own zines, anthologies or performances. You can put it on a t-shirt. You can read it on the radio. You can paint it on a truck. It's up to you, entirely and forever.

The collection will be updated continuously, on an unfixed schedule, with contributions from a wide range of named and anonymous artists and activists. You can read the FAQ for a full rundown of what Unprintable is and why it exists, but these are the really important parts:

Can I download/print/use the work listed here? Yes. Can I use it for [X]? You can do whatever you want with it forever. But what if I want to [Y]? You can do whatever you want with it forever. Why do this? A few reasons: 1. We want a space to just share things, no strings attached. We recognise that copyright is an irrational system that was designed to protect the profit interests of publishing middlemen and IP hoarders. In fact, copyright is often weaponised against the creators it pretends to protect. As long as it exists, we are unlikely to win any other form of protection for our work, and we are profoundly limited from engaging in the kind of communal artistic and storytelling practices that were the norm around the world for thousands of years. 2. Radical art is often unprintable. Profit motives make people cautious. A lot of print-on-demand or local print shop services will refuse artwork with controversial, sensitive or political content. This is very frustrating when these themes are the focus of so much of our work (and indeed our lives). Rather than waste any more breath trying to explain why a trans artist might want to print the word ‘faggot’, we can give our work away for free. Got a printer? It’s yours. 3. It feels good. Sharing is joyful. It’s the reason we love making things in the first place. We don’t write poems because we look forward to filleting them for consumption, or layer colours so that we can sell a canvas by the ounce. We have only ever wanted to be able to support ourselves so that we can make, but that relationship is deeply dysfunctional under capitalism. We made these things, and we want you to have them. It doesn’t need to be complicated.
