It's movie night but they can't use the home cinema, what do they do?
[week 1]
Bruce: Thanks for letting us use your place for movie night while we fix that leak at home.
Dick: No problem. Besides, I have plenty of snacks and the director's cut of Dumbo.
Everyone: *gathers around*
Dick: *puts on the movie*
~ 10 minutes in ~
*beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*
Tim: My crime alert's going off.
Harper: Mine too.
Duke: Must be big.
Bruce: Suit up and rendezvous in three.
Dick: *sighs and pauses the movie*
Dick: Can't get one night in this damn city.
———————
[week 2]
Tim: Steph, why are we at a karaoke lounge?
Steph: I know the owner's cousin's hairdresser's dog walker's sister's girlfriend and I convinced them to let us use the party room. Don't worry, it's just like a TV screen.
Steph: *puts on Pitch Perfect*
Steph: Ooh, I love this part.
Steph: *grabs a mic and starts singing*
Everyone:
Damian: *stuffs napkins in his ears*
———————
[week 3]
Jason: Since we decided on Pride and Prejudice, I thought I could play it at my safehouse.
Dick: Sweet, thanks!
Jason: *unlocks the door*
Dick: *tries to step in*
Jason: *stops him*
Jason: I said I could play it. I never said you could come in. I don't want your you-ness all over my new stuff.
Bruce: Jason, be reasonable.
Harper: Yeah, you got this junk off the side of the road.
Jason: My junk, my rules.
Tim: Then what are we supposed to do?
Jason: Fire escape's around the back. You'll get a decent glance.
~ 20 minutes later ~
Dick: *leans his head in to hear better*
Jason: My air, my rules.
Jason: *closes the window*
———————
[week 4]
Bruce: Cass, it's your turn. Got the movie?
Cass: *nods and plays Rambo on her computer*
Barbara: Uh, why isn't there any sound?
Cass: Volume button broke. Just read lips.
Jason: Kinda hard to do that with the brightness at zero. Did that stop working too?
Duke: Looks fine to me.
Jason: Shut up, Flashlight.
———————
[week 5]
Tim: I brought my entire Star Wars collection.
Bruce, dodging a space laser: Not the time.
Tim: Okay.
Bruce: *punches an alien robot*
Tim: How about now?
———————
[week 6]
Barbara: Sorry I got a cold, but at least we can still have movie night on Zoom. I torrented a copy of The Matrix.
Barbara: *shares her screen*
*movie plays*
Barbara: *leaves herself unmuted*
Barbara: *starts crinkling Sun Chips*
———————
[week 7]
Everyone: *crowd around Damian's phone watching My Neighbor Totoro*
Bette: Why is your phone so small?
Damian: I have tiny hands.
———————
[week 8]
Harper: Because we're watching Cars this week, I thought I could put together an all-immersive experience.
Bruce: BY LOCKING US IN A RUNAWAY SEMI-TRUCK?!?
———————
[week 9]
Duke: I called this company and since we're heroes, they're letting us use their electronic billboard for this week's movie at a huge discount. Kill Bill should be coming on right about...
*movie starts playing*
Jason: Not bad, Narrows.
*billboard switches to an ad*
———————
[week 10]
Carrie: Since Steamboat Willie is now public domain, I thought we could do something different tonight.
Carrie: *pulls out a flipbook*
———————
[week 11]
Everyone: *watching Love, Simon in a dark living room*
*lights flick on*
Apollo and Midnighter: *standing there in date night outfits*
Steph: Um, Cullen, who are these guys?
Cullen: *laughs nervously*
Cullen: Everyone, meet Apollo and Midnighter. They're kinda-sorta my gay uncles and we're kinda-sorta in their apartment and I kinda-sorta didn't expect them to come back early.
Midnighter: Remind me why we gave you a spare key?
———————
[week 12]
Kate: *sets up a projector and plays Glass Onion*
Bruce: Kate, this is a crime scene.
Kate: The fun part's already done, let Gordon do cleanup this time.
———————
[week 13]
Alfred: Back in my day, we did not rely on scrupulous use of technology. Which is why I propose watching a classic Sherlock Holmes tale on a classic instrument.
Alfred: *pulls out a zoetrope*
Steph: Anyone know what that is?
Dick: Not a clue.
———————
[week 14]
Luke: Nothing like a good ol' drive-in movie. Great idea, Helena.
Helena: I know, and the Godfather is perfect for this.
*Batmobile crashes through the screen*
Steph: Sorry we're late.
Duke: I'm still figuring out the PRINDL.
———————
[week 15]
*TV playing the Aristocats*
Bruce, trying to flirt: I like what you've done with the curtains.
Selina: Thanks, but it was Snowball's after-dinner surprise.
*TV blinks off*
Tim: Hey, what gives?
Selina: *takes a chewed-up cord out of a cat's mouth*
Selina, sighing: This is why I married rich.
———————
[week 16]
Luke: May I present the ultimate Snakes On A Plane drone show!
*phone rings*
Luke: Hello? ... Yes, this is he. ... Mhm. ... Yep. ... Okay.
Luke: Never mind, the FAA says I can't.
———————
[week 17]
Everyone: *watching Legally Blonde at Bette's place*
*dogs barking*
*sirens*
*loud music*
*car honk*
*neighbors shouting*
Bette: Sorry, we have thin walls.
Bruce, shrugging: Eh, still not as bad as HOA.
———————
[week 18]
Damian: Where is movie night this time, Father?
Barbara: My money's on another crime scene.
Bruce: Actually, I rented out the theater just for us and they're playing a special edition of The Mark of Zorro. Everyone got their snacks?
Duke: Popcorn, check.
Cass: Licorice, check.
Steph: M&Ms are obviously the right answer by the way.
Dick: I got a slushee.
Jason: I got the slushee machine.
Bruce: Alright then, take your seats. The movie's about to begin.
*movie plays*
*Rogues break in, make a mess, and leave*
Bruce:
Bruce:
Bruce: I miss my parents.

My thoughts on all the MSB friendship dynamics
Carlos & Dorothy Ann: One of my favorite pairs-- both as a ship and as friends. They are just so good together. They bicker a lot, but at the end of the day, there's no one else they trust more.
Phoebe & Carlos: This is such a great friendship. They're best friends. They're honorary siblings. They both know how to make just about anyone feel better.
Carlos & Tim: Just two guys being dudes. They canonically call each other things like "buddy" and "pal." Sadly, there isn't a whole lot we know about their friendship.
Keesha & Carlos: Theater kids. That is all. I quite enjoyed their dynamic in the ants episode. And I have a headcanon that they are both very protective of Phoebe.
Arnold & Carlos: We don't see much of their dynamic in the show, but they seem to get along well in the chapter books. I imagine they bond over their shared love of geology.
Carlos & Ralphie: Officially the silly geese of the crew. In the Dinosaur Detectives chapter book, Ralphie is the only one who doesn't groan at Carlos's puns.
Carlos & Wanda: The reason we didn't get an episode or book focused on the two of them is because they would have been too powerful. I imagine them having the same dynamic as Bucky Barnes and small Steve Rogers from Captain America: The First Avenger.
Phoebe & Keesha: Best friends! I love them so much. I also headcanon that Keesha was the first to befriend Phoebe after she transferred to Walker Elementary from her old school.
Phoebe & Arnold: Whether you ship them or just see them as best friends, they make a good pair. Even better: they both have bird names. ("Arnold" comes from the Germanic words for "eagle" and "power," while "Phoebe" is a type of North American flycatcher.)
Phoebe & Wanda: Yet another dynamic we don't see much of. But their height difference is everything to me. They're girlfriends in every sense of the word.
Phoebe & Tim: Art and nature friends! They probably both love bird-watching.
Phoebe & Ralphie: They are great together. I enjoy reading fanfics where they're stepsiblings.
Phoebe & D.A.: We see more of their friendship in the chapter books compared to the show, but I love them.
Keesha & Ralphie: The other "we bicker all the time, but at the end of the day, we've got each other's backs" friendship. Ralphie's fantastic imagination paired with Keesha's logic makes for a great dynamic.
Keesha & Tim: I like them. I wish I'd seen more of them together. They were great in the "Sees Stars" episode.
Keesha & Arnold: Underrated friendship that we should have seen more of.
Keesha & Wanda: Yet ANOTHER dynamic that was criminally underutilized. But they are best friends. I know, because they told me themselves./j
Keesha & D.A.: Between the two of them, they will get all the facts and get plenty of research in. Also: purple.
Tim & Ralphie: The two biggest sci-fi/superhero nerds in the class. Ralphie comes up with stories, and Tim brings them to life with his drawings.
Ralphie & Arnold: They're probably the most easily scared, but for different reasons. But they can both be brave when they need to be.
Wanda & Ralphie: Judge these two by their size, do you, hmmm? (I hc that they are the two shortest kids in the class, and neither of them like to be reminded of it.)
D.A. & Ralphie: If these two are working together-- be it in a baseball game or in a group project, it's over for you. That is, if they aren't bickering.
D.A. & Tim: A fantastic mystery-solving duo. D.A. is very detail-oriented, while Tim sees the bigger picture. But if they're on opposing teams, they're very competitive.
D.A & Arnold: Probably the most by-the-books pair (that is, on paper). In reality, things don't always go according to plan, but they always figure something out.
D.A. & Wanda: Another great friendship, even though they quite literally don't always see eye to eye. (Sorry, Wanda.)
Tim & Wanda: I don't know why, but I like seeing them together.
Wanda & Arnold: A classic. Love these two.
TL,DR: Every friendship dynamic in Ms. Frizzle's class is Valid (TM).
Which friendship is your favorite?

🥰 Can we have some Disabled Reader x Jason? Maybe where Damian says something snide about the Reader, not knowing the reader was there, and Jason scolds him, and then notices the reader, and goes to them to comfort them.
"Hey," Dick asked looking around, "Has anyone seen Y/N?"
"Just listen for her," Damian snorted, imitating your gait for a moment with a sneer.
"Dami-" Dick started, eyes widening slightly when you walk around the corner.
"The kids in my kindergarten class did it better," you say mildly, blinking for a moment.
"That's gross," Jason said, scowling, "If you-"
"I don't need you to fight my battles for me," you sigh, handing Dick the file you'd been on your way to bring him before turning to walk back out the door you'd come through.
"Are you gonna eat lunch?" Dick called, taking the file and kicking Damian's chair where he sat pouting.
But you don't turn. You don't want them to fuss over you. You don't want to be held up as a way for them to teach Damian human manners. And you don't want to hear people extoll the virtues of your hard work in an effort to soothe your presumably wounded pride. It's exhausting sometimes, the expectation to be some kind of inspiration porn for the family- and Gotham. Instead, you whistle softly and take Cola's leash from your bag.
Today is a good pain day. Today, you're steady enough to be without your cane or walker. The air is getting warm and soft. There are violets springing up. And Cola is excited- but. Like a good boy. The best boy. He stays near your side, no idea where he's going but thrilled to be getting there.
At the gate, heavy, jogging footsteps make you pause.
"Hey," Jason said, carding fingers through his air, "want some company?
"Sure," you hum, taking a mental deep breath, "But. I don't want to talk about Damian."
Jason nodded slowly and took a spot on your other side, closer to the street, "Fair but- Dick and Tim are taping him to a wall as we speak."
"Why?" you laugh, "Because he was rude?"
"I mean-"
You wave his words away with an impetuous gesture and huff a sigh, "I grew up disabled in a bad neighborhood," you remind him. "I'm fine."
He considered that for a moment and nodded, smiling a little. "Where are we going?"
"It's a no plans just vibes kind of day," you shrug, turning your face to the breeze and letting it tease its way through your hair.
"Pup cup?" Jason suggested, following after you, adjusting his pace to match yours.
At the words 'pup cup' Cola's ears perk up and you rub his head, "Whatcha think, handsome? Huh?" And a surprisingly high-pitched yip and a twirl make you giggle. "Let's go, then."

Looking back on 6.x and my guesses from 6.1: Regarding the VAs
I was going to wait until 6.55 to make this but at this point I feel we can make this now with no VA knowledge for the last part. Spoiler for all FFXIV 6.x patches and character spoilers a bit for FFXVI (just because i bring up VAs but no names of characters)
So 6.5 happened and with the alliance raid having voiced G'raha a point I have made since 6.1 is back again: The scions splitting up caused some interesting affect on the English dub, if not every single dub. But as I can only speak for the English - we will be talking about the English specifically.
For anyone who didn't notice or doesn't play the game in English - Jonathan Bailey is back in the dub for............ 3 lines (off topic: his name is ROT 13 looks like onion, therefore i am now shortening it in ROT13 to that). That is if he isn't a side character that pops up in the MSQ in 6.1;6.2 and 6.5. And it reminded me we have had it a lot in this patch cycle: VAs having a handful of lines for one scene.
6.1 had Gemma Lawrence [Krile], Peter Bramhill and Tim Watson all pop up for a handful of lines to never be seen again. Bethan Walker and Colin Ryan [the twins] have this in 6.4 when they are there to just set off the teleporter. This patch is so clear that they realised the pool of who they had to call had shrunk by a mile and didnt clearly know how the deal with the usual additional voices pool of patches prior (in English they ended up very clearly calling people *specifically* for bosses, hello Joe Dempise [Ardbert] in the Myths Raid and Jeremy Ang Jones [Hermes] as the P10 boss - people came in from the ffxiv alumni for other jobs and got asked to do bosses because suddenly they had so little VAs in the dub they had to leave it to fill roles).
When 6.1 released I said on instagram in a rant that this was because of ffxvi, they had split the team internally dub wise and now had to quickly fill the additional characters with the 7 VAs they had (and oh god in 6.1 you can tell, hello [redacted] who im 70/30 on being Jonathan, sometimes you do really try to hide your accent and it doesnt fully work does it?) .
this was until I saw that XVI cast on the PS Blog: there was no scions or even core characters in that dub. And when others showed me the BTVA entries when it came out: there was less than 10 XIV alumni in there, with most being new people to the RPG dubbing crew as such. This wasn't its fault.
6.3,6.4 and 6.5 is a lot better on this, new characters meant new VAs and they quickly found a way to fill holes but I am saying this now: this is the new normal for patches, maybe not expacts, but everything else - they are gonna have to work with smaller pools of VAs than before as it looks like the scions "pair" up for tasks and not every patch is gonna have huge amount of these.
What about that "3 lines omg" thing?
simple. get used to having bg characters sometimes all share a VA. like 2 or 3 have a VA in common. Because it must be a pain to have to round up someone for 3 lines. and this is not even specific to the likes of JB and co who have other projects we know about, it is everyone. Many of them aren't London based!
Its just a new issue they all now have, and I feel its gonna be interesting to see how we deal with it come 7.x

Alex Miller Strikes Hopeful Note With Upbeat Love Song, “Girl, I Know A Guy”
Tumblr media
Alex Miller’s new single, “Girl, I Know A Guy,” is an upbeat love song that strikes a hopeful note with traditional instrumentation and a modern theme. Taste Of Country premiered the tune earlier this week and writer Sterling Whitaker calls the track “pure Country goodness.” He adds, “The former American Idol contestant draws from Country’s golden age for this one.” “Girl, I Know A Guy” follows Miller’s rowdy and successful single, “When God Made The South,” and will be included on his second project, produced by Jerry Salley for Billy Jam Records, due in October. The song was written by NSAI Hall of Famer Walt Aldridge, Tim Rushlow (lead vocalist, Little Texas) and Danny Orton (Tim McGraw, Dan + Shay, Reba). Miller’s booming voice brings nuance and charm to a straightforward lyric about a guy offering the girl who has everything a chance for something more … love. You’ve got it going on More than fine on your own It’s not like you need someone to show you how it’s done But if you ever change your mind Girl, I Know A Guy   Let me show you what you’re missing let me be your something more Do some dancing in the kitchen let me open all your doors We could tear down all your walls brick by brick watch ‘em fall Wanna know what love feels like? Girl, I Know A Guy     (Aldridge/Rushlow/Orton) Fans can pre-save and pre-add “Girl, I Know A Guy” now. “Girl, I Know A Guy” gives Miller a chance to continue pushing his musical boundaries. “I love trying new things,” Alex notes. “This record reminds me of the Eddy Arnold hit “You Don’t Know Me” (written by Cindy Walker), but with a real modern twist,” Alex continues. “It’s an in-your-face contemporary love song that leaves the listener in suspense. I don’t know if the guy gets the girl, but I do know he’s there for her if she needs him. There’s plenty of fiddle and steel guitar throughout – and that’s my kind of Country.” Alex is spreading his kind of Country far and wide this year, with tour dates pouring in. Upcoming performances include: May 10 – Lexington, KY – Red Barn Radio June 10 – Hodgenville, KY – City Celebration June 11 – Sunday Mornin’ Country (Grand Ole Opry House) June 16 – Clarence, MO – Clarence Homecoming June 17 – Glasgow, KY – TBA June 19 – Peru, IN – Miami County 4-H Fair June 24 – Murray, KY – Froggy 103.7 Summer Concert Series July 3 – Charleston, IL – Red, White and Blue Days – (Drake Milligan) July 5 – Ft. A new pole of the republic
“Should Tourism Australia discuss the issue of placing kangaroos somewhere on our new national flag once we become a republic?” asks George Zivkovic of Northmead. “I’ve found at least 36 flags with at least one animal on them. Best of all is from South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. The flag also has its own coat of arms, which includes a macaroni penguin, a fur seal, a golden lion, and a reindeer.” Bruce Satchwell of Carrara (Qld) says: “Auto-volume is a feature of most smart TVs and set-top boxes that keeps the volume below the set level as required by Denis Cartledge (C8). What my husband wants is a feature that automatically increases volume volume to drown out my comment on the unscientific nonsense and stupidity being broadcast.” “A quick and serious message to the Australian government: start an ongoing disaster recovery lottery,” suggests Clovelly’s Graham Russell. Moving on to a bit of family life from Austenmer’s Janice Crignon: “Wobbling tables (C8) can always be fixed, but pizza risers pose extra levels of danger with oversized trays placed on top. Any attempts to disassemble more prizes can lead to a dangerous event. …often familiarly discussed on my tunnel (and warnings given on every possible occasion). Enough family!” According to Gerhard Engeltner, pajamas are nothing new: “I didn’t realize that going out in public in my pajamas (C8) was a new thing. People here in Hurstville have been doing it for decades. Thin slippers and everything.” Stephen Knox of Chatswood wrote: “I once dreamed (C8) I was awake but when I woke up, I was asleep.” “Remind me of the parliamentarian who dreamed that he was giving a speech at home and when he woke up he was!” Are Australians finally starting to walk the talk? Joanne Brown of Orange thinks so: “I don’t know if it’s just a diagonal thing, but since advancing (retreating?) into a wheelie walker for trips to the CBD, I’ve noticed how kind the people are, open heavy shopping for me, and check out Cross busy roads, and stand aside to give me space to cross. Without being asked, staff at checkout lifted my purchases to the pedestrian seat. Thank you very much everyone.” “Ah, Ian Cat, (C8), I may be dill, but I know exactly what you’re made of,” says Tim Slack Smith of Castle Hill. Nicholas Fols
Nicholas Fols is a portrait and fashion photographer for who the theme of nature is also really important. Most of his shoots are set in spectacular outdoor locations. His models are portrayed as 'spirits' of the landscape, swimming in forest pools, perched in trees or climbing mountain rocks.
In many of his photos, his models even look slightly like fairies. Inhumanly beautiful and ethereal, with wings or elaborate outfits imitating the shapes of nature. He enhances this look by using reflectors to light his models with subtle, dreamy golden light.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tim Walker
British photographer Tim Walker also has a super surreal style. His models are all unearthly and alien looking with elaborate costumes and makeup. He uses a lot of flowers as props, often unrealistically large to make the model seem tiny in comparison. This reminds me a lot of the fairies in my images.

Drake stood under the shower, letting the hot water pound on his back and shoulders. He had woken up grappling with his feelings. He felt guilty for his lack of guilt and anxious wondering if her feelings for him would change now that her husband was back. So he had done what he always did when he had issues that needed working out and headed for the gym. His morning routine already included running and working out, but today he had put in some extra time on the heavy bag and in the ring sparring.
Stepping out of the shower, he wrapped a towel around his waist and stepped into the locker room to get dressed.
“Hey Cap!” One of his men called out, “Where’d you get those claw marks?”
The other men broke out into a chorus of laughs and “oohhh”s. One of them slapped him on the shoulders on his way past, “Damn. Looks like Cap got ahold of a wildcat last night!”
Drake flinched as the other man’s hand hit the barley starting to heal wounds that she had left on him as a reminder of the night before. “Hey, mind your own business Penna! The rest of you, find something to do or I’ll find something for you.”
The men quieted down and scurried away with varying replies from “Sorry” to “Oh, shit!” No one wanted to get tasked with washing the entire fleet of royal vehicles or having to inventory the armory. Captain Walker did not play when he was annoyed with them.
He heard a chuckle from the doorway and spun around to find Liam standing there. “You’re such a hard ass Drake.”
Drake quickly pulled a t-shirt on and replied, “What are you doing in here? We don’t have gym time today.”
Liam and Drake worked out together several times per week when Liam was home, Drake insisted on it, he wanted Liam to keep his self-defense skills honed in case an assailant ever got past his personal security.
“I know. But I knew I’d find you here and I wanted to come say hi. Get a moment with my best friend before the security briefing.”
Drake’s eyes ran over Liam, taking in his facial expression and demeanor, finding nothing but genuine happiness there, he allowed himself to relax and returned the smile, “Glad you did. We can walk up together. You can tell me all about your trip.”
“You probably know everything important already.” Liam said, referencing the fact that Drake coordinated and got all the updates from Liam’s security team.
“Yeah, but I mean the fun stuff, not the boring stuff! Any good diplomats embarrassing themselves stories this time?” He finished dressing as he talked and sat down to tie his shoes.
Liam chuckled, “Sadly, not this time. What about you? Anything interesting happen while I was gone? Did I hear right? Have you met someone?”
Drake stiffened for a moment then shook his head as he stood, “Not really.”
Liam nodded in understanding. A one nightstand then. That fit with Drake’s past behavior. He knew Drake had developed feelings for Riley during the social season and that he had struggled since the wedding. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t have to. Liam was observant and Drake was his best friend. Even if all he had done was pick up a random woman in a bar, it felt like progress. Maybe he was finally moving on. That was a good thing. He’d talk to him about it when he was ready.
They left the gym and headed back to the main level of the palace, toward the wing that housed the security offices.
“You got back early this morning, right? Have you had a chance to look over the briefings from the last two weeks yet?”
Liam shook his head, “No, I cleared my schedule for the morning. The only person I wanted to see was my wife.”
Drake nodded, “Understandable. Two weeks is a long time.”
“Too long. I hope to never be away from her that long again. Next time, maybe I can talk her into coming with me.” He frowned then said, “I’m worried she’s working too hard, Drake. I cleared her schedule this morning so we could have some time together, but have you seen how hectic it is?”
“Yes. She does too much, she doesn’t want to disappoint anyone.” You should have noticed months ago, she’s working herself to exhaustion.
“I’ll have to talk to her about delegating more. Taking more time to herself.”
“Do you think she’ll listen?”
“I…don’t know. I’m afraid she’s still trying to prove herself. She doesn’t see herself clearly, she doesn’t need to prove anything. She’s already amazing.”
“Yes, she is.” Drake agreed. Shit, why did I have to say it like that?
Liam shot him a sidelong look but didn’t say anything. They walked in silence for a few minutes.
Riley was Liam’s blind spot. Drake saw that clearly. The very thing that had drawn him to her was what blinded him. Her exuberance for life, her insistence on treating him as Liam, just Liam, not the crown prince of anything. She always saw him. It was what she did. It was how she had broken through his own defenses, seeing through all his jaded bullshit to the tender marshmallow heart he tried to hide.
Liam had been entranced by this woman who had appeared and brought him out of himself, made him smile and laugh, asked him about hisfeelings while not carrying about currying favor, worrying about how hewas handling the social season, of course he had. This vision of grace and beauty, wit and charm who lit up every room she walked into. She sparkled, she enthralled. And he had fallen head over heels in love with her. They both had.
But what had captured Liam’s heart was her focus on his comfort, his well-being. Liam had been raised for a life of service, for a life of obedience to duty and honor. To have someone focus on him, on his feelings, to clearly see him for him, had been a revelation for him. Something so far out of his realm of experience that he couldn’t help but be swept away by it. It was understandable. She had rescued him, saved him from a life of unrelenting sacrifice. She had opened up possibilities he had never dreamed possible and because of that, he only saw her strength.
Part of that was her own fault, she was so determined to be there for him, to be his safe place in all the political bullshit and courtly nonsense, that she sometimes hid her struggles from him. Drake saw that clearly too.
It was why she needed him, why they both needed him. She was strong, but still she needed a safe place of her own. He could be that. He would be that.
Drake reached out and clasped Liam on the shoulder, “It’s going to be ok, Li. I’m here for you, for her. Whatever you need, ok?”
Liam gave him a small smile, “I know. Thanks, Drake.”

My thoughts while watching Holes for the billionth time
It’s fucked up that the movie starts with all the supporting characters watching their friend attempt suicide
How long was Stanley’s trial and how short was Zero’s trial? Because we know that Zero got arrested the day after Stanley did, but he arrived at Camp Greenlake significantly earlier. Like, he knew Barfbag, he already had a nickname, people knew he liked to dig. How long was he there before Stanley showed up?
In the book when they sing the song, they howl on the word moon (it’s written “moo-oo-oon”) and I wish they did that in the movie
The Yelnatses screwed Stanley over by not getting him a lawyer. The little bits we see of his case prove they had no clue what they were doing. And when they eventually do get a lawyer, he’s let out almost immediately.
I love how Dr. Pendanski is written. He’s such a terrible person who has convinced himself and is trying to convince those around him that he is the nicest guy around. He fucking sucks and I love how he’s written and how Tim Blake Nelson plays him.
“Today’s menu: Chili, string beans, re-fried beans, garbanzo beans, green beans, and banana jello” — aren’t green beans and string beans the same thing?
The cinematic choices made in this movie are just *chef’s kiss*. The way they jump from timeline to timeline without ever losing pace is masterful
Eartha Kitt is flawless.
While Eartha Kitt is flawless, I want it noted that in the book, Madame Zeroni is described as a one legged Romani person (Sachar actually used the G slur) and Eartha Kitt is neither one-legged nor Romani.
Zero is the fastest digger in the camp, but they never really explain how big the camp is. Like, is he the fastest out of 25 people? 60 people, 140 people?
Just to revisit point 8, I fucking love Eartha Kitt
The yellow spotted lizards are such an excellent plot device
All the inmates are either A) mentally ill B) people of color or C) severely traumatized. But most of them are D) all of the above
When Squid throws out Stanley’s letter, catch Zero in the background with a pool cue ready to beat the shit out of that motherfucker
It’s weird that they show Sam as some kind of snake oil salesman when we know that his product actually works. The yellow spotted lizards won’t bite you if you’ve eaten his onions. Why claim they cure baldness or that Mary Lou is over 100 years old?
Zero back at it again ready to throw hands for Stanley, this time with a billiards ball
The fact that magnet got locked up for stealing a thousand dollar puppy
“You are here on account of one person. You know who that person is?” “Yeah, my no good, dirty rotten, pig-stealing, great great grandfather. That’s who it is”
Henry Winker provides such comedic levity
When Zero asks Stanley to teach him how to read and it’s such a nice moment of vulnerability, only to be shot down by Stanley. I just want to cry
What happens if someone actually dies at Camp Greenlake? Like, Zero and Stanley ran away and Barfbag got sent to the hospital, but they all survived. What would the protocol be if someone just dies while digging? Clearly there’s not a lot of oversight because Stanley can get away with Zero digging his hole, so what happens when one of those kids get overheated working all day in the Texas sun and just collapses in their hole one day and nobody thinks to check on them until the next day when the buzzards are all gathered around their corpse?
I’ve waited long enough to say this. Sigourney Weaver in this movie is one of the best performances I’ve ever seen. I fucking love her
Sam and Katherine. nuff said
“Well then I guess you’d be in a lot of trouble if your boat leaked.” *sobs*
Just casually reciting Edgar Allen Poe from memory as a way of professing my love to a woman I legally cannot be with due to racist laws forbidding interracial relationships.
I can’t help but remember that Scott Plank died during the post production of this movie. Respect to him and his ability to play such a good villain as Trout Walker
“No one ever says no to Trout Walker.” “I believe I just did.” SAY IT LOUDER, KATE!
Sam
I love that Kate’s MO came from a racist sheriff sexually harassing her
The sunflower seed thing reminds me of something that happened to me at RTC and it’s just a really nice moment for me
Stanley acting so casual by not doing the one thing he’s supposed to be doing
The look on Magnet’s face right before Stanley covers for him
I really want to know more about the Warden and Mr. Sir’s relationship
I also really want a bottle of that rattlesnake nail polish, but maybe that’s just me
I also really like that Sachar didn’t shy away from the racial implications of a white guy having a black guy do his labor for him. Then again, the whole story is an indictment of racism and the American prison system, so it makes sense he wouldn’t ignore that
The way Stanley gets so excited when Zero mentions that park. Like ‘oh, we have something in common. We used to go to the same park!’ and Zero just shuts it down with “I used to sleep in the tunnel next to the swing and bridge” Stanley may have been cursed, but he still had a home
Zero finally gets to throw hands on Stanley’s behalf. He’s been waiting to do that since point 14
Pendanski really is the shittiest
“No one cares about Hector Zeroni” “I do”
I love that Twitch was just instantly ready to help Stanley steal Mr. Sir’s car
What are the chances of Kate, Zero, and Stanley all finding Sam’s boat in the middle of the desert? And I know Kate probably spent years looking for it after the lake dried up and for Zero and Stanley it was destiny, but still
Zero, you gotta ration that sploosh
One more time for emphasis: I love Eartha Kitt
Kate dying and she hallucinates Sam, only to be snapped out of it by Trout Walker. Just Trout stopping them from being together one last time
“It hasn’t rained here since the day they killed Sam” and you think whatever deity made that happen is gonna let anyone in the Walker family end up with Kate Barlow’s fortune?
“I can’t leave without Hector.”
“Call my mom. Tell her I said I was sorry. Tell her Theodore said he was sorry” cue Small Steps
Justice reigns over the Walker family and rain falls over the Walker estate
I would love for someone to find out just how much that treasure chest was really worth. Can one of those theorist channels get on that, please?
Hector finding his mom is nothing short of heart-melting. I’m not crying, you’re crying
“Camp Greenlake was closed and the boys were released on time served and sent to real counselors” Wait, are you implying that forced labor is an unjust prison sentence? Someone better tell the prison industrial complex!
So what happened with Sweet Feet? Did they sit him down and explain the misunderstanding before or after signing him as the spokesperson for their product? He was the prosecution’s lead witness at Stanley’s trial, but nope! All is forgiven!
The soundtrack slaps
Point 53, however you have Shia Labeouf and Eartha Kitt in the same movie and you put which one of them on the soundtrack? Just wondering who made that call. Like, you layer ‘I Want To Be Evil’ or ‘Burned As A Witch’ over any of Kissing Kate Barlow’s scenes, it’d be perfect. But no, instead we get the dude from Even Stevens trying to rap.
